    It's a me! yaaay!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Still one of my favs. And I'm looking forward to drawing some new ones at the show. See you guys there!
  2. I try to avoid logging on in the middle of the day LA time (which is primetime on the East Coast) for just this reason.
  3. I absolutely LOVE DA. I'm on there at least once daily, and it's a great way to expose yourself to all sorts of great art from around the world, even if you're not an artist yourself. I highly recommend it, and yeah, there seems to be a thriving CoH community there too.

Have fun David! Missed ya at Comic-Con but there's always next year

    [/ QUOTE ]

I really enjoy meeting other CoH fans and signing at the NCsoft booth, so as long as they're willing to host me, I'm sure I'll continue to go. I might not pull the same 6-hour stretches now that my day job's at Marvel, but I'll certainly be there.

I so wish I could make it to this.

Meeting you would be awesome, D.

I'm trying to visit a convention in every region of the country, so hopefully I'll get to one near you eventually. *crossing fingers*
  6. So after a great time at the SAN DIEGO COMICON creating full color headshots for hundreds of fellow CoH fans, I'm thrilled to announce that my summer convention 'tour' continues this weekend, August 10-12, at WIZARDWORLD CHICAGO! Haven't been to the show in a couple years, and I'm really looking forward to returning to the Midwest.

Christina Strain (colorist of World War Hulk, Runaways) and I will be premiering our brand new Witchblade print, I'll have Marvel Adventures: Hulk comics and my '07 sketchbook for sale, and if you're in the market for some original CoH art, I've got you covered there too.

I'll be in Artist's Alley all Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at the Donald A. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, IL--SEE YOU THERE!

I've got a friend that's going, can I send him/her with pics and will you do two for them (one of mine one of thiers)?

    [/ QUOTE ]

If the line's short, no problem. But if people are waiting, I'll have to go one-per-customer. I'll do my best!

I happened to inherit a wonderful estate that incurred the wrath of the IRS.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'll save some freebies for you, bro. Nice new avatar btw!

a friend of mine is going... I might send them to bug you all in my place.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Please do. This is one of the only events all year where'll be doing free sketches, so it's good opportunity to get some art.
  10. So who's going?!

I'll be at two booths this year drawing FREE color sketches and signing copies of CITY of HEROES and MARVEL ADVENTURES: HULK #1.

    Here's where to find me:

    MARVEL (booth 2429):

    Fri--10 to 11
    Sat--10 to 11 and 12-1

    NCsoft (booth 3949):

    Fri--11:30-7
    Sat--1:30 to 7

I'll also be on a panel this year:

SUNDAY, 11:30-12:30 KIDS' CARTOON STUDIO— Room 30CDE

'Watch as six fantastic kid-friendly cartoonists draw their hearts out, right in front of you! Scott Morse (Magic Pickle), George O’Connor (Journey into Mohawk Country), DAVID NAKAYAMA (Marvel Adventures: Hulk), Amy Kim Ganter (Sorcerers and Secretaries), Ted Naifeh (Courtney Crumrin), and Nick Bertozzi (Houdini: The Handcuff King) will be showcasing a diversity of styles from manga to superheroes and everything in between. They’ll talk about their backgrounsd and then hit the drawing boards. Moderated by Janna Morishima, Diamond Kids Group.'

    SEE YA THERE!!!

We got it today for our son. Of course, being three, he can't read it, so it's being bagged and boarded and stored with the others.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Now that's forward thinking!
  12. [ QUOTE ]
What the heck? Your proportions and colouring are way off, dude. This guy's huge, with a tiny head, and GREEN. Da fug?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Sorry about that. It was supposed to be a Ms. Marvel comic, but I screwed up the art so badly that they had to change things to Hulk at the last minute.
  13. [ QUOTE ]
Wow! VERY cool news! Glad to find you got picked up so quickly - I might just need to pick up Hulk from now on.

Oh, and for my own shameless plug; tell Marvel I'm available.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Dude, your stuff rocks. I'd be shocked if you couldn't pick up some prime cover gigs at SDCC with such an amazing portfolio. You going to the show?
  14. Hey, guys. Now that the CoH comic's done, I'm working on a new series for Marvel...and I'm not above some shameless promotion here on the forum!

The book's called MARVEL ADVENTURES: HULK, and #1 comes out tomorrow (Wednesday the 18th). So if you liked my take on the Freedom Phalanx and co. and you're at your LCS tomorrow, I hope you'll check out the new title.

There's an article about it here:
    http://www.comicon.com/pulse

And you can see some preview art here:

p.s. Anyone who brings me a copy of Hulk #1 to sign at either the San Diego Comicon or Wizardworld Chicago gets a free prize. Seeya there!
  15. I try to post as often as I can on DA, and I'm continually fascinated by which pieces atttract the most favs. It's hard to guess what people are going to like, but on that site at least, there seem to be 4 main predictors, and I'll rank 'em in order of importance:

    1. Female subject matter. It's overwhleming--pics of girls get WAY more attention, and it's not because the viewership skews male. If anything, there might be more girls than guys on DA. Go figure.

    2. Color. Not too surprising, I suppose. Who wants b&w when you can have the full spectrum?

    3. Well-known characters. Even the best-drawn pieces can be overshadowed by something with 'X-men' in the title.

    4. Fantasy. The more other-worldly the better. And it makes sense: fantasy subject matter seems to inspire creativity and imaginative solutions in almost everyone's art.

I've only been on DA a few months now, but that's my current theory on how a piece gets popular. What do you guys think?

On a side note, here're some of my favs. Every single one's a 'hot chick' piece, so be forewarned. But I find that it's the most challenging subject to draw, and that's why I'm always so impressed people who do it well:

    http://david-nakayama.deviantart.com/favourites/

Or maybe I'm just sick in the head.
  16. I just turned in my scores and comments on the top 14 entries, so I'm sure we'll have some official results in the not-too-distant future. Each story was graded according to 7 different criteria (storytelling, artistry, etc.) and then reviewed several times for accuracy.

I haven't heard the other judges' picks yet, so anyone could still conceivably win. Stay tuned I suppose.

By the way, choosing a winner was a REALLY tough call for me. I was blown away by the stuff you guys turned in, and often found myself wishing for a 'part 2' when I reached the end of a story. Great job all around.

I wanted to grab the Hulk-Ironman, but by the time I got out to the comic shops all copies of that were gone. I picked up The Astounding Wolf Man instead.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Got that too, and I'm looking forward to it. Kirkman's always great.

Took the whole fam out David. My 4 year old picked up Transformers, my 6 year old picked up Sonic, my wife picked up the Wizard "How to draw" magazine for me...I mean for my 6 year old, and I grabbed, the Hulk Ironman of course

My 6 year old had her comic read before we got home

Good stuff and a great idea.

Man, I'd love to visit Toronto again. One of these days, I promise.

Gonna try to make it on Sat! See you there!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Looking forward to it! And as far as I'm concerned, CoH board posters take priority in the line.
