  1. Having greater speed on jumping allows us to choose whether we want to move fast or not. A nerf on Hurdle or a buff on Swift would remove choice from the equation. So, no.
  2. The slow resist, while not unique, is also pretty damn great, especially in Tin Mage with all those recharge debuffs flying around.

Really, the best thing about it in my mind is that it's a PBAoE buff in a melee powerset ; which means people who usually wouldn't play a buffer might end up doing just that.

the Spines combinations would probably still beat it
About that, I wouldn't put anything other than Spines/WP or Spines/Invul near Fire/Shield if we're talking solo. With any other secondary, stuff runs away pretty much all the times, and you end up either having to kill one target at a time with your lackluster ST damage, wait for them to come back, or letting stragglers live and just moving on to the next group.

Once you have someone else with a real aggro aura holding everything in place, though, no argument ; Spines/ELA, Spines/DA and especially Spines/Fire rock.
  4. PF only benefits you so there's no point slotting it.

It certainly wouldn't hurt to add 1 or 2 slots to GC. One of my friends did it on his tanker and I definitely notice the extra defense everytime he's around (tanker higher base and all, admittedly, but still).

You probably know that, but whatever you do, make sure you don't run to the squishies when they're low on life... I've seen shielders trying to "help" who actually got people killed by splash damage, as they tend to drag tons of aggro with AaO.
  5. It was 24-25% (not 20%) to all positions. I recommend 20% to all positions if you go with insps, and in fact the plan was for me to go with insps, I just happened to try without and found I could manage some AVs.
  6. I've had success with no insps no temps at about 25% def (on DB/ELA), but I sometimes had to back off and I sometimes couldn't take on certain AVs. 30-32% seems to be a good number to shoot for. If insps are used I think it's better to stay at 20% to all and just go all out (as much as you can, anyway) on damage and recharge. One luck would be enough most of the time, and eventually add a second one if the AV hits you with high damage attacks two times in a row (first hit you heal up with Energize, second one it's better to take a luck as to avoid a third hit that might kill you).
  7. I think you also have to consider the chain as a whole. As Impale and Ripper have better DPA than Lunge, it might provide a benefit to have a faster animating power instead of Lunge (Fire Blast would also beat Impale in DPA).
  8. Fire Blast is slightly better... But you're losing the Hecatomb proc (Apoc would already be used in Impale), so I'm not sure how it plays out.

    DB/WP help

You could trade Focused Accuracy for Conserve Power, stick a common recharge IO in the base slot and use the other one to slot a Kismet +6tohit in Combat Jumping.

Cardiac would also help, but if you can manage your endurance without it, you could then get the Musculature Alpha for even more damage.

While I know this will change as time goes on and he settles
    That's optimistic.

Back to the topic at hand... Seeing as there's always been a slower solo path for character progression, I'm not too worried about Incarnate soloability. It might come later - maybe they want us to just run these super duper trials they've been making for a while before giving us solo options.

During this double XP weekend, a non-50 could head to RWZ, participate in raids, get a holy crapton of expees, rack up a bunch of Vanguard Merits (I can land about 600 - 750 / raid),
and then, at 50, craft a bunch of common components, deconstruct those into shards ... and get a headstart on Alpha slotting?
Hey, that's a pretty good idea. Thanks for sharing.

    DB/WP help

...on that note though...I'm getting abouyt 190 DPS on my DB/WP. Nilhii (hope I spelled that right, and I think that's the right poster) said they were getting around 195 with the same slotting (I was getting lag on my Pylon runs, which may be the reason there's the difference), but adding in Assault could bump up the DPS of that combo, maybe even a bit past 200 (with the right IOs in the build of course).
My name, my poor name! I'm used to "Nihili", but "Nilhii"'s a first. ;p

I'm getting about 205 DPS now with BF -> AV procced out along with the Musculature uncommon and Assault. Seeing as we should get the Rare Alpha soon, the level shift should help DB solo a few more AVs - gaining one level is roughly a 11% damage increase (better than that against higher levels foes), so that bumps someone doing about 200 DPS to about 220 DPS, which might not seem much for general play but can be the tipping point against AVs, solo.

Going with the Musculature Very Rare, I should be doing ~215 DPS against an even level, so ~238 DPS against a level 50 with BF -> AV. Not a top contender even by pre-Alpha slot standards, but still quite nice considering the low recharge requirements.

The thing I like most about the Incarnate system is, while it might make great builds even more above the curve, we're going to all become so powerful anyway it's almost irrelevant.
  12. So you actually meant you were all talk and no action right from the start? My bad then.

Unfortunately, I don't qualify for the vet perk that lets you choose a travel power without a prerequisite, and swapping Hover for CJ means I either need to swap Fly for SJ or drop another power for it. I prefer Fly for concept and ease-of-use reasons even if it isn't the most optimal choice here.
Heh, my bad. I'm a Ninja Run addict myself and I build without travel powers these days, so I completely forgot Hover is a prerequisite to Fly and assumed you just picked it for the LOTG.

I agree that softcapped S/L and about ~30% E/N/F/C is already sturdy (although I prefer 33% because then you can softcap with one luck inspiration). I run numbers similar to these on my DB/Inv and she's able to handle most content, with the occasional insp use and/or team buffs here and there.
  14. If you don't use Hover I'd swap it for CJ, gives a little extra defense, good midair maneuverability and costs basically nothing to run.

I haven't opened the build in Mids, but things that jump out to me looking at it here :
    - The +3def PVP proc is probably better in Unstoppable, unless you use Unstoppable a lot. It's always active regardless of the power it's slotted in, and this way it saves you a slot. Additionally, I'd slot RPD with more resistance.
    - I'd put a range in Warrior's Challenge rather than a damage proc. It's not a damage power, and adding a 1 in 5 chance to do 74 psi damage won't change that ; it can even make the power worse (you might wake up sleeping AVs while taunting them for example).
    - I'd swap the sets in REM and Unyielding, Aegis being level 50 gives a little more %.

Similarly, if someone was running a group or whatever and they were using voice-chat to set it up and arrange it, it'd be really annoying if someone refused to get on voice-chat.
The thing is, it's relatively safe to assume if you can play this game you can read and type. Same can't be said for voice chat ; there's people with hearing disabilities, people who can't afford to be cut off from real life by using headphones nor making noise through speakers (i.e. single parent).
  16. One of my friend and I got the same bug on old characters since the last patch. I wouldn't sweat it.
  17. Quantity has nothing to do with quality. It's better to have just Tactics than a bazillion hypothetical tohit powers that would each give 1% tohit... or than a bunch of defense debuffs, incidentally.

    Defense debuffs :
    - have a limited duration
    - are resisted by both the purple patch and AV resistances ; i.e., a 30% debuff turns out to do around -1.4% against a level 54 AV.
    - require you to hit the target in the first place, which implies
    1) you have to roll for hitting
1b) no matter how much accuracy and tohit you have, there's always a 5% chance that you'll miss
    2) on teams, for your -def to be as efficient as +tohit, you have to be the first one who hits the target(s)
2b) no matter how quick you are, you can't hit more than 16 targets at once nor be at two different places at the same time

Additionally, I'm pretty sure most people quoting you were reacting to your claim that -def is significant against AVs. As generally AVs don't have any more defense than a simple minion, being tohit capped against them is ridiculously easy. More defense debuff (or tohitbuffs) past that point does exactly nothing for you.

Heck, can you imagine the carnage if we'd had DXP including AE while the Monkey Farms were active a couple of months ago?
I actually can't. When you're already going from level 1 to 50 in two hours, taking half of that time doesn't change things much, unless your goal is just to crank out an arbitrary number of level 50s that you won't play afterwards.

    /inv ???

I'm not a believer of chaining AoEs exclusively outside of AE farms (and even there I don't do it, I use my big hitters on bosses every now and then ; pure AoE really only made sense to me at the time when we could make all boss farms at full exp). In regular play a group is a bunch of minions, some lieuts and 1 or 2 bosses. If you attack the boss(es) with your ST chain while using FSC as soon as it's up, you still end up killing the boss last more often than not - unless some minions/lieuts are in ranged mode and staying away, in which case having more AoE power wouldn't have helped either.
  21. I knew BBJ would back down, but I got to say I didn't expect him to keep running his mouth after publically admitting he can't do it. Heh.

I use FRAPS (paid version; free stops after 30s), it works well. Another option, if it works for you, is to use the WeGame client. It records, encodes and uploads to WeGame.com.

This isn't a voice chat issue. This is a problem with any person who finds something more interesting then the game they're currently playing. Doesn't matter if it's webbrowsing, vent chatting, sg chat, global chat, phone call, etc. As others have suggested, just make a note in their player notes and kick them from the team.
Agreed, and I say this as someone with a strong dislike of voicechat. That guy was just a poor team player.

    /inv ???

DB/Inv is my favorite character since years, but I can't honestly say it does anything that another primary couldn't do, if we're talking highend performance ; esp. on a brute where BF gives less damage (both in terms of actual buffage and relatively because of lower base damage).

FM for example is superior on almost every point except tohit. Good ST chain at low recharge? Check. Good AOE damage? Check. Good DPE efficiency? Check.

Add to that a rarely resisted damage type, and no weapons (no redraw). It lacks the ability to slot -res procs (so, slightly less useful against big targets on teams) but does about the same ST damage and FSC is much easier to use than any DB AoE.

If you really like KM/Inv, another thing you might consider is that I20 isn't so far away. It's a bit of a long shot, but with the Judgement slot giving us an AoE, who knows? It might give primarily ST builds more appeal.

Anyway, now that I got my "wah wah DB isn't good buff meee" out of the way...

I think you should skip Assault, on a Brute. 10% damage isn't worth the endurance drain when you're hovering around 400% damage on a regular basis.

You don't have Aid Self so I'd consider slotting Health more.

If you're putting a resistance IO in temp invul, you may as well add the mez resistance/psi res unique from Aegis in there, it only lowers your S/L res by 0.6%. I admit I don't see many people doing that except me, but I find the mez resistance rather useful in highend content ; lowers the time Reichsman stuns you, lowers the opportunity for mezzes to stack when you're tanking heavy mezzers without support (carnival especially, a lone illusionist mistress could sometimes mez me thanks to her lieutenant summons before I slotted the IO, since I did it hasn't happened yet), so I always try to slot it when it doesn't hurt the build as a whole.

Example build with the above changes :

  24. Add the endurance each attack uses, divide the sum by the time it takes you to run through your attack chain, subtract your net recovery (end rec - end use) to the number you got, use the result as a divisor to your max end ; that final number is the amount of seconds it takes you to run out of end.
  25. Quote:
I mean, if everyone does that, than the 220+ dps people I'm comparing against will just ratchet up as well to 240 lol.
Not necessarily, because many builds that are already at 200+ DPS rely on self damage buffing. Katana has none of that, so benefits more from damage buffs than other powersets. There's also several builds who already use (and are planned around) the Cardiac and Spiritual, these builds won't see much DPS improvement if any from the Very Rare.
