You can generate 'new' inf in these fashions:
-Inf from defeats.
-Inf from mission completion.
-Inf from sales to vendors.
-Defeating players in PvP activities (paltry amounts, but you still get inf)
-Outside donations such as costume contests.
If your character does ONLY this from 1-50 you should come up with close to two to five million influence. Say Joe Blaster doesn't give a petunia about the Market and just vendors EVERYTHING. Vendor 5 Accuracy/Damage IOs (50) will give you 500,000 influence. Your mission will give you maybe 300,000 - 500,000 as well. You get 5 commons (5 x 250) one rare (5,000) and an uncommon (1,000).
There's a million or so right off. Once you have level 50 SOs slotted (that will cost you what, 4-5,000,000) you're in the clear correct? So...if you play the game you will continue to generate new influence. Forever.
It's like the old days before IOs. My bubbler would just run missions and get inf. Then she'd run Hami raids and people would give me 20 million for a Nucleolus, say. I'd pass that inf to alts for SOs and farm Dreck to get more inf.
Joe Blaster doesn't need purples or even IO sets to defeat the Guides, Tac Ops Commanders and so on. See? So you just vendor your stuff...if you play just an hour a night and make a million, after a month you'll have 30 million?

Quote:I don't have to kill 2 bill worth of NPCs to generate "new" Influence, that's the thing.u say that it takes less than a day it does not you have to kill 2 bill worth of npcs to generate "NEW" influ thats my point the population is way down. Yes they farm 2 bill easily a day but look at whats selling a day. Its SOOOOoo muchmore than that where is the "NEW" money coming from.
I just use the Market! Case in point, my Mind/Cold. She's level 44 now and sitting on 450 Merits from just doing Phalanx TFs for accolading and my Friday night TF groups (we recently did Shard TFs, massive influx of Merits there).
On the side, I did AE and cashed in at level 35. I made close to 100,000,000 influence just off those rolls from AE.
Other players gave me that money! *YOU* might have given me that money. On the other side, I run my bubbler through my demon farm and just craft the drops and sell them. On a bad run I sell a few crafted uncommons for 5 to 20 million and sell the salvage for 2-10 million. On a *good* run I get a purple and sell it for 70,000,000 plus.
My Warshade on Triumph, The Casual Player, is sitting on 10,000,000 at level 20 and that's not that much, but I've been lazy in playing her. All I did was sell drops to the Market.
If *all* you do is just defeat mobs and vendor stuff you'll make enough to outfit yourself in single origins and still clear the several million cap. Seriously. It's impossible to not make money somehow!
My SGmates on Pinnacle were actually wondering how they'd afford an LOTG for their builds: "It's so expensive!"
I told them EXACTLY how to do it:
i)Roll a new alt
ii)Sell insps on market (20,000 - 50,000 inf)
iii)Sell any salvage on market
iv)Place low bids on recipes and vendor them
v)Do a few TFs, cash in Merits and craft and sell.
Eventually you'll get your millions, and quickly at that.
The game also gives you "new inf" with mob defeats; millions of "new inf", especially at level 50! I think Catwhoorg did a report a while back that states an hour's play on even a low-damage character at level 50 got you 1,000,000 per hour...do the math.

I also would like to add that pvp ios as well as purples and some regular ios are so far ahead of the price from months ago that the current base(my server is way less then 10x less than just 6 months ago) acroos all server is down so the increase in prices is not sufficant to account for dwindling pop.
Please for reference go back to my original discussion to new people reading this before we get off topic
cliff notes" population decline versus the increase in xp earned by the new mecahncs is not enought to account for the spike in prices"
The population may be declining but even on a low-pop server like Pinnacle I can get an 8 person TF going which gives me Merits and inf...an infinitely increasing amount of inf coming into the game with few inf sinks outside of crafting and market sales and costume changes and prestige buyins... -
Welcome back and great poster!
And yes, marketing are miserly with the information...but one can surmise that they are waiting for a strategic point to release information. -

Not to sidetrack much, but Arcanaville's point about the Invention System is dead on. I know its inception has kept me subbed, kept me levelling alts and kept me marketing and playing. The thing is, there are so many meta-games around inventions, such as the Market, TFs, drops, ownership, bragging rights and so on...that even on the worst day I'm burned out playing, they still make the game fun.
If I have one wish about endgame is that it be challenging yet not overly tedious. The ITF should be a standard for the Devs. It's short (four missions), it's somewhat challenging (the end fight with Romulus and the Nicti) and it's fun (swarms of Cimeroran traitors, change of pace with the Nictus) as well.
Dr. Kahn IS fun and somewhat varied but the end fight is bleh.
Conversely, Barracuda* is MUCH more fun but harder to get people to play for a variety of reasons.
*Shrug* Anything beats those old Phalanx/Shard TFs I s'pose. -
Quote:I'd just Phase.Makes me wonder how players would handle it. Would the 'dedicated healers' start using mitigation abilities? (I.e. controls, soft controls, blasts) Or would they just cry for the aggro magnets to do a better job and run? We may never know.
Seriously, to answer the OP any tweaks to the AI would be great. I'm not sure they can though; I imagine most mobs have a set of attacks they execute, sometimes haphazardly (Scientists opening with Consume anyone?) and such. If they could code it...say a mob had Cold Domination, hit the healers with Benumb, go from there.
Things could get nasty in a hurry. You have to take into account the average player that just logs in for a TF or mission or two as well. If they get frustrated they move to the XBox...or go out and do something else.
I think in this game, they'd be better suited to just add challenging content that needs gimmicks or temp powers or tricks to defeat...AE can always be used as a stress-tester. -
Hey Slax my bubbler needs Citadel if anyone wants to run one. >.>
-
This was mad fun, and Wonko let know to check the forums next week for GR tidbits (while on Justice).
-
I did the first mission in your arc (I'll finish it later).
Very fun, loved the Greco-bots.
(Their lack of pants was noted as well, and approved!)
I think it might be buggy though, not all the mobs were granting a reward. That might be working as intended though. I'll log in now and finish it off, will try to take a screenshot or two as well.
Good work Troy, great writing! -
*ahem*
A POE-EMM for Slax.
Ode to Slax
Hailing from the graceful Infinity
We hear the one called Slax,
As he screams B00F MEH! to all in his vicinity
Before he attacks.
Lo, a storm front comes to Freedom
A nod to the old combatants ladder
Who will be farmed into self-imposed martyrdom
When the spirt sharkies eat yet another?
He is dUmb and thats his trademark
Room for three Colds is heard on the global
As he speeds another ITF out of the ballpark
A Trap of the Hunter? Damn those random rolls.
A League of extraordinary stupidmen
Joins a league of tested warriors
In Freedom we fight with increased acumen
With oddball line-ups, doing it for the lolzers
LGTF? ITF? Another Phalanx TF for Accos?
Into a trance-like state we fall into gamestate
Damn, I knew I shoulda stocked up on Doritos!
Sadly this hunger for merits, I cannot abate
Hail Slax, Hail dUmbies,
Hail PvPers from all cities!
As the game changes and we find new truths
One thing remains, Slax wants his B00Fs.
>.> -
Quote:Word. You are cheating on your server by not representing it on Freedom
Oh, 6v6+ is where it's at. Trust me. Much more skill/coordination involved in matches of that size.
I just wish I could have watched some of those sg vs. sg matches in the day. The cross-buffing must have been insane.

Quote:I know nothing about the expansion, but Praetorians use Behemoths, Behemoths have to be on maps, maps can be reset..."All I'm gonna do is farm more Behemoths".
But anyways, Please dont speak like you know everything about this expansion. You dont. You only know as much as they have said, and with all the hush hush about this expansion, what they have said to-date is not ALL that we are getting. It's just as bad as straight up lying, to just bot responce what you think is fact. When its not the entire truth, or fact.
Haha, kidding aside one issue is travel. I've gotten so used to shortcuts in CoX: bases, Ouroboros portal, multiple train lines...I don't think I'll do more than be a tourist in Praetoria if I have to slog across multiple zones doing deliveries etc. Hopefully they borrow from the CoV model here and make the zones more compact. -
"ended the Hamidon wars with his own indomitable will"?
(Starts respecing her Controllers into Psi epic...)
Also, Hamidon wars?
*Goes back into gamebooks and produced a huge bag of holding to collect the raid on Hamidon enhancements*

Fear? No.
Excitement? Yes.
Cuiositty? Absolutely.
It all depends on the methodology and implementation of the advanced gamestate.
If it is item-driven (IE You need item X to progress, similar to purples) then the Markets and fellow players will be able to help out.
If it is mission-driven (IE You need to unlock Cimerora through the Midnighter contacts) then I expect grouping to accomplish this as efficiently and quickly as possible.
If it is engine-driven (IE slot progression ingame) then things get more interesting. If "universal" slots are acquired, they will likely be so through some sort of gameplay progression. At this point, you would likely have to choose which alts will progress and which will not, causing a lot of heartbreak and a feeling of "grind" as a new timesink occurs. It looks like the Devs are moving away from "grindy" content (ITF and KTF are short) for the most part, though.
I would hope, or rather dream for an account-wide acquisition protocol, similar to the unlocking of Kheldians and Arachnos Epic ATs upon reaching 50. This may prove to be too "easy", however. If I know the Devs (and I don't, but previous experience shows they can be filthy sadists) there will likely be a Task Force/Mission based unlockable and an Acquisition unlockable. Seeing as how they see that X % of players have increased statistits through items, we may be looking at what Recluse Strike Force was in the day...anyone remember the free gametime offered to anyone that could beat its original iteration?
TLDR: New stuff nao plz, updates nao plz, new info nao plz.

Nice tunnels and "mob".
Thanks for the icons as well, Viva la Resistance! -
Quote:Yeah...real information please.Congrats to all, but - where is the information? I read the interview and it just said "content".
Can we get some INFORMATION?
AE is nice and while there are nice arcs out there, I haven't played a Dev's Choice in a while. A lot of them have really annoying mobs and just haven't been very engaging. One of my all-time favourites is the Saul Rubenstein Discount Task Force, which had everything: humour, no really annoying mobs, no annoying unmentioned EBs or AVs and it was quick to complete.
Others I've tried had an EB (not mentioned by the contact) in the first room or so or just mobs with annoying powers...like overuse of end drain or -Defense abilities.
These days, I use AE to PL my alts to 20 or through the 30s before hitting the ITF circuit, which brings me to my next concern...end-game content itself.
If you look at the "End-game", it's basically 35+.
You have "Challenging End-game" in LRSF and STF (yeah yeah, some of us can whip these in 30 minutes...) and even Hydra can be challenging if people don't follow instructions. Then you have...the Shard TFs, which have nice storylines but are TOO DANGED LONG. Then you have Reichsmann TF, nicely paced but the last fight, heroside at least, is tedium in extreme. Just mashing buttons while a 250,000 HP boss goes down...not doing that a lot folks. While there may be an issue with the amount of debuffs available, making the end boss a large sack of hit points isn't the answer.
I'm crying for stuff to do with my purpled out alts. With the removal of the challenge slider for TFs (Just remove the ability to -1 them!) all I'm doing these days is ITFs, the occasional Positron/TF Commander run and a Respec every now and then.
This game has needed interesting End-game stuff forever. Heck, even some stuff specifically targeting high-end builds would be great, since at the moment AE is my only way of finding such challenges.
I got a second account a week ago and while I am running the contact arcs redside (which are generally great, Merit wise and story wise), heroside I see myself..."Well, I can go to Kings Row and do this Rescue Lost mission or...I can dual-box in AE and just PL to ITF level..." and that isn't a great place to be.
Give us stuff to do please... -
Quote:I am looking forward to the self-invites to SGs and PLing my alts as well. Some things to know about a 2nd account. they tend to be neglected alot after the 1st 50.
Some reasons for this.
done have some of the cool vet powers (sands of mu, staff, TP, Gnome pet to follow U during the winter event to drive team nuts)
avantage: can move things around yourslef, invite to SG. Dual Boxing (different lvl of play and not for everyone).
Being born into Paragon City without all my vet rewards, Pocket D VIP pass, etc etc was pretty jarring but it's still a fun game haha.
Quote:Ohh, that make sense now. I thought that you mean "girlfriend as needed". Yeah, "global friend" makes more sense.
-
Thought long and hard and decided I might as well get a new account with a ton of slots rather than buy a zillion new slots.
The global is @Neuronium so expect some gfriend requests in the near future, with a message attached.
My first character on the new account was, of course, created on Champion. -
