Thanks to his subtle influence, it's no surprise Psoma didn't know that.
Hehe lots of laughs seeing the animated version of Street Fighter; I especially never expected the Mack truck driven by M. Bison at the end. I think someone donated a copy of Street Fighter on VHS tape to me years ago, imploring that I watch it. I don't think I have any way of watching that these days, heh.
Edit, also funny was that our local Uni still has coin-operated arcade machines (I thought those were long since gone to the Old Game Heaven) and the X-Men vs. Street Fighter one still draws a huge crowd of people.
Haha, the silly things people spend money on while "learning". -
This. I know the dUmbies are all having a blast, there's just a few forumgoers that like to be drama llamas.

Quote:Pretty much bang on. I spent a fair amount of time on my first arc, which admittedly wasn't great, only to have a bunch of Dudley Do Right Critics rain down invective and so on. Fair enough, I unpublished then wrote another arc which people have liked.
People who want to actually add content to the game get rewarded by:
- Having to constantly retool their perfectly good arcs every time something breaks.
- Having to constantly retool their perfectly good arcs every time something is changed to fix some exploit.
- A horrible search engine that pretty much ensures most of our arcs will never be played.
- A horrible rating system that gives too much weight to the "opinion" of anyone with three seconds to spare and the desire to click "Play" and click one star, thereby relegating something someone put a lot of effort into back to the depths of said horrible search engine, behind farm after farm and that arc some guy slapped together and got his friend to 5-star.
- A reduced player base for said arcs that a lot of effort is put into because players increasingly have to choose between playing through something new, interesting, and well-written, and getting half-decent rewards.
Through it all, I wonder if I should even write another arc. If I do, it likely won't get more than a handful of plays and be overshadowed by the AE "Elite" that have the Dev's ears, or those that have become the self-appointed "Hoity Toity Kontent Kops" that will downrate the arc to the point of oblivion.
A big part of the early AE was all the badges and they took those away.
A friend of mine wrote an arc about his characters. Sure, it's Mary Sueism but he had a lot of background notes and clues and dialogue in there.
After three weeks he said:
"No one played my arc, I don't understand."
"Did you advertise it on the forums or in channels?"
"No, I didn't know you had to do that."
So then he went and build a boss farm that got 20 five star ratings.
What did he learn? He learned that he was rewarded for manufacturing grossly exploitive content that gave players quick levelling and fast tickets.
I hardly even look at AE anymore. Honestly. I sometimes log in, try a nice arc and give feedback but what's the point? The author might never get the feedback, might pull down the mission or might not care. These days I just use AE to PL my lowbies to 20 and beyond. I dip into Dev's Choice missions but they've been very uneven. The only ones I have truly enjoyed were the Discount Task Force and Hickman's arc. The latter had custom mobs but they weren't INSANE. The former had a funny story and normal mobs which made it great. A lot of the "Critic's picks" had long arcs with tedious objectives and were just boring, really.
Here's my TL/DR advice to the Devs:
-Add an XP Rating flag to the missions
-Allow farms and add a "Farm" tag to the AE
-Honestly try to get more Dev's Choice or good arcs looked at. There is some GREAT stuff in there but...WE NEVER SEE IT. PLEASE remove Dev's Choice from the front page. When I go into AE and all I see are Dev's Choice I am missing out on a LOT of good missions. "What? Dev's Choice ARE good missions? What are you talking about?" No. Dev's Choice are missions the DEVS LIKED for some reason. A lot of them aren't challenging, the rewards aren't great and the story is so-so. Just as an example, someone wrote a GREAT arc about the Trojan War but it likely never got looked at.
-Make the best stuff Canon. Heck, make zone of the zany, crazy challenging missions canon too. How cool would that be?
-Add a "New Arc!" tag that shows you new arcs in AE.
But please...Devs...AE was a great idea but the split it created between RP-focused writers and farmers was inevitable. You can't stop the farms and you can lead players to AE but you can't make them drink from your mission well.
Just add an XP flag to the missions so we know what to expect.
Thank you. -

Oh! I totally misread the intent there...
I choose them either for a theme for the character or something I might need in pvp. Sometimes I just roll something that might annoy my teammates, like a Storm/Energy Blast Defender... -
Not having cake is a slap in the face to the playerbase, thankfully coconut cream pies in the face are a nice substitute...

Quote:I just spit orange juice on my screen, too funny.Another scrapper. There is nothing that cannot be solved by the application of more scrappers
To answer the OP, I'd go with a Sonic/Sonic Defender or hmmm...I was originally going to suggest an Empathy Defender but the other person might not like buffing. How about a Blaster sidekick? You could have your friend on a Scrapper in Melee and with yourself pinging off stuff from range. Oh, the fun to be had in killstealing them! -
Let's see.
I'm a Developer and a sadist.
I don't care about the Market crowd.
Villains aren't producing enough items.
I need a kludge fix.
Fix the first: Double all merit rewards redside.
This would, in theory, end up with more recipes being produced in sold. It could also produce more recipes in storage.
Fix the second: Increase drop rate of Pool A and B recipes.
This would devalue Pool A and Bs and create excess so that players can trade them on the market.
Fix the third: Seed the Market with a steady stream of desireable recipes.
Each day, hundreds of rares enter the Market. Ah, you say, I'll just use my vast stores of inf to buy all of these and re-sell, brilliant! I think the Devs would see this strategy and somehow limit us from bidding on more than one of these items.
Actually, I can't see the last happening, as far as limiting bids goes.
Fix the fourth: A new Merit system for playing redside content...
Yes...perfect. These Merits would be earned for playing unique redside content and could be turned in for recipes, salvage and so on at new vendors. So you wouldn't get these in coop zones. It's unnecessary, needlessly complicated and confusing! Implement it folks! -
Those people are inconsiderate jackasses.
Any AT played half-decently will roll over the Hellions, Maltas and Councils of this world.
I have a rule: let the person join the team and if they contribute, they can stick around. If they afk all mission or just don't do anything, they get a /t, if all they do is soak (unless it's an agreement between us) they get asked to leave.
Bring your FF/Dark, your AR/Fire, whatever you feel is fun at the time as long as you punch the bad guys and don't just leech.

Quote:There's nothing wrong with ANY of these. The list of builds that was dissmissed before I was allowed to enter the mission, or was kicked the moment I entered a mission just by looking at my apperant powers are.
Fire/Fire - Tanker
Storm/Elec - Defender
Rad/Ice - Blaster
Earth/Sonic - Controller
Sonic/Sonic - Defender
FF/Archery - Defender
Fire/Fire Tanker...my longtime game friend still rocks his Fire/Fire Tanker and farms Dreck with it, he still fairly tears stuff up. Good friend of mine has a Storm/Elec and he used to herd 5th Column in the day, it still pulverizes stuff; perhaps the issue here is people are afraid of knockback. Rad/Ice Blaster? It's a little offbeat but with the patch, fast blasts, - Defense from attacks...stuff is going to die. Earth/Sonic? Slows + holds + team buffs sounds like something I would want on my team. I have a Sonic/Sonic Corr and no one has complained about that. Defenderside will deal less damage but that's a lot of -RES, team buffs...and lastly the FF can give you an incredible amount of defense and Archery is pretty spiffy too.
It sounds like you ran into some elitists or people that just wanted cookie cutter builds. Short of your own behaviour, which I have no reason to doubt as this wasn't brought up, those powersets are all fine. Some people are just jerks. Just form a circle of friends that will appreciate your toons and go from there.
Good luck in the City! -
There have also been a lot of power changes; the Stalker and Dominator changes come to mind immediately, but Blasters also got Defiance changed and so on.
My best bet is another user's suggestion to head over to paragonwiki and rattle off the issues over there to see complete versions of the changes. -
Quote:WelcomeI've been playing the free trial this past week, and have decided to upgrade to full game within the next couple of days. I've really enjoyed being in Teams running missions or just having fun, and am now looking to find a SG that has members who like to team up for whatever (missions, raids, PvP, it's all in good fun!).
I have been playing on Protector, but am willing to start a character on any server (my highest level is only Lv 11, I'm not very far yet).
If anyone is willing to put up with some newbie with alot of questions and willingness to play the game (I'm planning on being in game at least a couple hours per day as I can be atm) let me know. I've played a couple heroes, but made a villain and am really enjoying that too, but either works for me atm to learn how to play the game!
My global handle is @Starlight Nova (I believe- my first character) or reply here with suggestions/offers and I'll check it while I'm installing fullgame!
Thank you all who've welcomed me so far, you are truly an awesome group of players!
(shameless plug)
We have a fairly active group on Pinnacle (a lower pop server, but still decent teaming) called the Lethal Ladies. Check us out and register at LethalLadies.Guildportal.com.
Outside of that, I will personally be glad to help you out with any questions, missions, anything you have. My globals are @Neuronia and @Neuronium and I'll send you a global friend invite as soon as I am on. To find your global friend tab, just click "Friends" then use the tab to "Global Friends" and you'll see a name. That name can be used to communicate with that person anywhere on any server.
Try all the archetypes, explore around, have fun! -
Nice post.
I'll have a post "soon" about my Warshade on Triumph, Casual Player.
She started out with zip and is now well enough off to SO for life with all forms slotted.
At level 20 I'm sitting on close to 80 merits without having done a Task Force as well. Just some judicious playing of normal arcs, PuGs and the occasional newspaper mission is pouring tons of money into her pockets.
My only regret is upgrading the bedraggled torn jeans look into a more respectable pant suit now that I've hit 20. =( -
Need weekly events or teaming.
The on Pinnacle I help run has Friday TFs, Wednesday villain teaming and so on and we have a global channel too.
Find a few people you get along with and delegate responsibilities. One person might be a recruiter, another might design sg costumes, another might plan TFs or you might just get together to level alts.
Coalitions are great too, if you can Coalition with a larger group you can use Coalition chat to find more teams. -
Quote:Yeah that's true, I don't think anyone has brought up Max in dUmb chat ever... why would we, he's pretty good and knows what he's talking about. It's usually: "Oh man you have to read what barrier said here" or "Did dahjee really say that? Is he/she kidding around?" or stuff like that.
Dahjee, I'm not posting this to make you mad or trying to get a reaction out of you. Its the simple truth. When we are sitting around BS'ing after matches about what is going on in PvP with zones, arena, the boards etc. Max (who I don't know and is far from a buddy or anything) is *never* brought up. Your name however, tends to make an appearance every now and again after some of your more epically bad posts. The two most common responses are laughter and "Just wow...."
Again I'm not trying to get you to care or whatever. Just letting you know, Max isn't the one getting laughed at for giving consistently far out bad advice. For the record I'd so read an animated comic strip of your posts on CoH PvP. Someone should get on that, it'd be funny for at least a little while.
Also, a bunch of us moved toons to Virtue for a few days during the free transfers and it was ok. Not saying it was good or bad, just ok. I don't think anything can compare to Freedom these days and I wish I had rolled stuff there before the I13 Cataclysm if the zone was any more occupied in the day.
Also:
I was in Freedom Pocket D the other day waiting for practice to start and some Fire/Storm was spamming for a duel, so what the hell if I get rolled on my Ill/emp no harm done, if I win no harm done. He goes: "No insp TS on cage match, Oh man I'm so sorry you're gonna die so bad XD." So I ask if we can turn off heal decay, since he's so uber...after 10 minutes I had 1 kill on him, told him I had to go practice and that was that. To be fair it was close with the end drains and such but I can't shake the feeling that some zoners just...not talk but run their mouth (?) and either haven't tested their builds a lot, duelled a lot or are just cocky heh. -
Quote:Of course, the Devs could then either:To steal a tagline from the current U.S. President's campaign "Now that is change I can believe in!"
I'd love that price cap in place. I'd get in line with my 200M bids and then find out where people were gathering to sell things off market for more.
A)Block players from bidding more than 200M through those trades (simply auto-complete trade after 200M has been spent) or
B)Prevent IOs from being sold between 'live' players at all, which would necessitate either use of the Market or SG invites so you could take them from bins.
There's always a way to screw the players, the Devs here are pretty nice though. I wonder if any of them have GMd RPGs before where they had to deal with Monty Haul scenarios, etc.
Anyway, I think we all agree price caps don't work. If the Devs are worried about stuff going for more than Inf cap, they need to either increase the drop rate on those items, make them accessible by other means or perhaps lower the personal inf cap? I'm not even sure if the latter would do anything, given that you'd just fill slots with empty bids, they would just be 1 billion bids instead of 2 billion.
In the end, they might be better off just adding some MASSIVE Inf sinks into the game, or taxing us. -

Post Op We'll Talk: 21800 points
Used 2 be good:19300 points
Black on Black Crime: 17550 points
Reacharound ftw: 15550 points
dUmb: 13750 points
Eternal P A I N: 12000 points
Fix't these as needed, but those should be the updated points following:
dUmb win over BoBC
dUmb loss over POWT
U2BG win
RAFTW/CIGAL two ties 1 win
BoBC win over EP
Feel free to correct etc. -
Pretty much all my villains will be making the trip blueside, if only because there are more Task Forces over there. My heroes will be staying blueside, since the Redside Market is snail-paced.
-
We got 29 kills and these IOs:
Fury of the Gladiator: Acc/End/Recharge 50
Gladiator's Armor: Resistance 50
Also, this was pretty epic fun. Died a few times, killed a few times and hopefully was a pain in the *** out there.
Thanks for playing everyone. -

Quote:Most powerul hero is currenly psy/em blaster.
The only server with any PvP at all these days is Freedom, and it's pretty active. Basically the whole PvP comunity had to move to Freedom to have any PvP at all, since all other servers died.
Pretty much this, Psy/EMs are crazy right now, the delayed damage packets are very nice. Also, come to Freedom, you'll find everything from fiteklub to serious arena 8 v 8s to kickball to...whatever you like, it's in Vegas, err Freedom. -
I'm excited about Incarnates but am worried about tying levels to zone events...a player might not encounter the event when online, what then?
Perhaps if players can precipitate events or enable them... -
Hey B_Witched, Slax is pretty tired from coming back from Slax so I don't think he'll mind. I'm pretty tired myself so that sounds great from standpoint.
We'll ask Psoma about it but shouldn't be a problem.
D'oh. I 've got something from 9:30-10:00 Wednesday so before that or after that would be perfect here, but whatever accommodates the whole group is fine.
