  1. my farm map seems to be paying off at roughly the same rate it ever did, ticket wise. takes me about 10 minutes to cap out with my fire tank, same as before.

You can sit and argue about what is "good" and what is "bad" all day. Fact of the matter is that a good player can take a weak power-set and excel at it, pushing it to the limit and out performing stronger sets, and visa versa any bad player can take an awesome power-set and make it very UNextraordinary at best.

Stop looking at the numbers and instead look at the knowledge and skill of the person at the keyboard, because that right there is where it's at.
while I agree BUILD POWA isn't the be-all end-all, I don't buy the 'good player' argument either.

The game isn't hard enough for either of those variables to matter much. Nearly any build played by any player can accomplish most feats in the game. Power level and skill have a major impact on efficiency, but most things can be brute forced with even the weakest tools.
  3. on topic reply, I've got a low level DP/Cold corrupter that I like quite a bit.

I agree with those saying it's a jack of all trades set. While the aoe is anemic compared to my fire blaster, it looks great and the set thus far has a nice mix of single target and aoe.

It's a concept character, I got a fun idea and ran with it so number crunching didn't figure in. I have plenty of 'efficient' characters for when I'm in that kind of mood- this guy has been enjoyable on his own merits.

It's been my experience that Fire Breath>Fire Ball = no more spawn.
Running at -1 they'd all die even faster.

I like RoF as a power, but don't see the point given your stated difficulty settings.
  5. Fantastic Four to be leveraged for short term sales bump, after which everything will return to status quo!

Keep up the good work, however much or little you post out her in the 'wild'!

It isn't a natural environment, everything in it is dev defined.

they make the game, so everything is "arbitrary, artificially reinforced" limitations to be overcome by various means.

In my hypothetical D&D campaign the only reason a level 1 party with blunt sticks and butter knives can't take down Tiamat are "arbitrary, completely artificial" limitations called THE RULES.

If you play a game, whatever game, you're bound by the rules. Otherwise there's no point to your actions. If you start your D&D party out at the peak of power, everyone might as well go home because there's no challenge or interest there.

Ditto for any game. The (arbitrary, artificial) limits on player progression and power are the game.

this is a remarkably vapid argument even by your standards.

Broadly speaking the point of 'rewards' is to allow the player to face more potent challenges, not to let them walk over existing ones.

So, uh, welcome to every game ever made, ever.

casting an eye back to my pen and paper roots, we didn't earn glowing plate mail and magic swords so we could wale on Kobolds more efficiently, but so we could go after dragons.

my favorite was the RP-justified refusal of Venture's heroes to use the merged markets since they'd never buy stuff from bad guys...even though his heroic characters would have absolutely no way of knowing that villains were now interacting with the supply pool.

Having your characters act on knowledge you possess as a player but they don't violates one of the cardinal 'rules' of role playing.

  11. so, my wife calls me right when I get off and says an old friend's in town and they're having a party. A lovely evening to be sure, we made very merry indeed.

I get home late enough that I've expected to miss all the fun, log in to find nobody around and head to City Hall to burn my pile.

Dump my seven-ish billion then pull up the leaderboard to see if we managed to overtake #4 or not.

    Do a double take.

    AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!

    Y'all are the greatest.
    Best SG ever.
  12. I've helped teach more people how to get rich in this game than you've got total forum posts.

But I guess you've cured cancer or something?

If it keeps the forums from freaking out every time someone moves on to a new job I'm all for it.

Plus, I'm paying them to make a kickass game, not play forum footsie with people who're usually out for their blood.

On the list of goofy things people choose to get DOOMy over devs who work on the game instead of posting on the forums is my clear #1.
  14. Each inf burned is a victory for all 88ers!

    Heheh.

You know what's easier than the devs coding in a special system to protect you from spawns that are the appropriate level for the zone they're in?

    Inf in storage?

seems like about the only way to get an idea is start a "hey, how much inf do you have stored, and how do you store it?" thread.

Obviously not all that scientific, but might give us at least some notion of what's floating around out there.

    Inf in storage?

after my recent 3,000,000,000 mishap I'm never storing inf in gleemail again.
I mean I got it back and all, but it took over a week.

That's another nice thing about the 88's, I don't really have to worry about 'inf storage' any more. =P
  22. there are plenty of badges/costume pieces/etc I'll never have access to for this or that reason. I flatly reject the premise that all rewards have to easily available to everyone in the game. I enjoy those I earn and don't lose sleep over those I'll never have.
  23. Vet rewards have kept me subbed through some times when I'd have likely turned off my account, so in this case at least they do the job they were designed for.
  24. we should probably wait until tomorrow for a tally....it's going to change quite a bit this evening!
