I'm leaving all my junk listed just to see what happens.
It's not like I need the inf anyway, and I'm curious about how smoothly they can make this work. -
Like /dev, SR has definitely had some of its shine stolen by the IO system.
It's still a nice set, but now anyone with a big pile of cash can recreate much of its utility.
It'd be nice if they could figure out a way to make it unique again. -

Quote:are they video games?Which brings up the question: Do Pen and Paper RPG's count as "Games" as far as the "No game talk" goes?
No?
Then there's no problem.
Not complicated.
I liked the old DC pen and paper game that Mayfair put out- never played it because Champions was better, but it looked like fun.
I haven't read an RPG in a while maybe I'll check this one out.
Is Mutants and Masterminds a good system? -
I'm leaving everything where it is as a sort of experiment.
curious to see if they can pull this off without messing up all my stuff. -
Quote:I gotta side with Frank here- a spiritual seeker would stop dressing up and fighting crime in fairly short order. =PMorrison doesn't talk much about the costume itself but does elaborate on his take on the Batman's character, which he hopes to shift away from the post-Miller borderline-psychopathic vigilante and more toward a spiritual seeker.
On the other hand if he wanders into some kind of Moench/Gulacy/Day Shang Chi, Master of Kung Fu territory I might actually tune in.... -
continuing my series of dirt simple pasta dishes, here's the very simplest and one of my favorites, garlic and oil.
The two keys are chopping the garlic fairly fine (IMHO garlic presses don't really get the job done here) and having a quality saute pan. Cast iron works great and isn't expensive.
So, chop up as much garlic as you want- I usually do up a whole head.
Heat your pan over medium-low and add 3-4 tbs of olive oil.
Once its hot add all your garlic and saute gently until it's golden brown, usually around 10 minutes.
This results in a mellow, sweet, nutty flavor quite at odds with the biting harshness most people associate with garlic.
If you'd like a little bite you can throw in 1/4 tsp of red pepper flakes near the end of the cooking time.
Add to cooked pasta of your choice (I like the traditional spaghetti here), salt to taste and enjoy. You can add some visual flair with a handful of minced parsley if you've got a bunch handy, and Parmesan is also a nice addition. -
I really don't understand their insistence on fiddling with iconic costumes.
hey Artist Guy, it's BATMAN you're drawing, he doesn't need your 'personal touch', okay? -
Quote:The thing with these merits, as with 'real' merits, is that our friend the 'casual gamer' won't be listing their buys on the market, they'll be slotting them (or just hoarding the merits themselves against some undefined future need). It's my belief that there are a lot of people that don't take the time to maximize their total converted income from the various currencies available. If that weren't true, margins in this market wouldn't be at the ridiculous level they are. With A Merits available at .5 a day from level 20 on, I can see a casual alt logging in, doing the bare minimum towards the merit that day, and logging out. They won't level fast in real time terms, but they'll amass quite a few A Merits per level.
I mean, I know what the marketeers will be doing with this currency. That's obvious. It's what the average joe who doesn't craft or flip will do that I'm most interested in. That average joe is the supplier of goods for a large portion of the money made by people in this forum.
'Real' merits can be earned efficiently by 'powergamers', so the things you can buy with them show up on the market.
PvP IO's dried up in the first place when they put a timer on the drops.
These merits have the same sort of mechanic, and given the extreme cost of the PvP IOs I don't see them helping matters much.
Happy to be wrong, of course, but this is how I'm seeing it. -
Quote:Well, it has been said that the devs aren't happy with some items going for over 2B. I think making them this kind of available will handle that issue without any need for policy changes or large system overhauls.
It would take so much time and effort to 'buy' an over-cap recipe with the new currency I don't see it affecting the price much if at all.
Players will do what they always do- find the most efficient use for the new currency and hammer it hard. As Swell noted, look for those rares to take a pounding. -
Quote:oh hey, that's a great idea.
2. Diversifying. I am rolling tickets on some characters and saving them for rolling next week on others. I am rolling merits on some characters and saving them for rolling next week on others.
the Goat is stuffed with tickets right now- he filled up base storage and I'm not listing anything until the merger.
I'll just cap his tickets and then see what's hot after the Big Day.

Quote:Thank goodness they ditched that confusing, redundtant base salvage, otherwise my tiny brain wouldn't have room to hold yet another confusing, redundant currency.
Do not confuse them. They are a new type of Merits not to be confused with Reward Merits (completing arcs, Task Forces, Raids, killing Giant Monsters) or Vanguard Merits (killing Rikti once you've been initiated into the Vanguard). -
Quote:true!A quick note on olive oil.... older olive oil will develop bitter tannins... so don't let it sit around for too long. Make sure it is fresh & "clean" tasting.
This becomes very important if you are going to use it as a "stand alone" ingredient such as angel hair pasta with a bit of garlic, olive oil & parm.
if it's an ingredient you don't use all the time, buy small bottles and store in a cool, dark place.
also I have two types on hand- a cheap one for cooking and an expensive one for dipping and drizzling and making dressings.
Huge flavor difference. -
Quote:you can already copy anything you want from the DVDs they ship physically. The only thing I'm thinking about is they must have some serious way of stopping the customer from ripping the stream because this would make burning your own DVD's of films that much easier.
and what's the point of making a physical copy of something you can watch on demand whenever you want?
I know buying my Roku has absolutely KILLED my desire to buy DVDs. They're more of an annoyance than anything else now- I sold off 80% of my collection and I'm actively annoyed when I have to get up and put on a DVD instead of just surfing my instant queue on the teevee. -
Netflix has really been upping the ante on their streaming catalog the last few months.
I'd love them to take it to the next level. Streaming is clearly the future, hopefully they can get some of the old dinosaurs on board with their vision. -

Any shopping tips for picking the best ingredients for a pasta dish? Some notes on what we did:- Whole grain noodles. (We presumed this healthy)
- comparatively speaking, yeah.
they have a different flavor profile than traditional pasta- I like them with pesto, they're also good for the simplest of all pastas, garlic and olive oil.
Quote:- She and I disagreed on how much to salt the water. I said "Err on more than necessary". She found the idea of salt repellent inherently.
All my better Italian cookbooks say 1tbs salt for every 5 quarts of water. Basically, just pour way more than you think you should into your cupped palm then dump it in.
Quote:- I prepurchased spaghetti sauce. It was "Basil" themed. What sauce would have gone best? Should I have made my own?
see my post upstream a bit for recipes.
Rule of thumb when buying a jarred sauce is to check the ingridient list.
The fewer ingredients, the better the sauce.
This is the best jarred sauce I've tried. Note the short, simple list of ingredients.
Quote:- Italian sausage used for meatballs. Simple here. I just buttered the pan and let them fly.
Quote:- Parmesan cheese. Is this always a given? I assumed so.

If you have a Trader Joes in your area, they reliably stock excellent inexpensive vintages. -
I anticipate the release of GR and the market merge to deliver the greatest buying spree in the history of the game.
I've been running MA, rolling bronze, crafting the good stuff and sticking it my base storage in preparation for this blessed event for a couple of weeks now.
We know there's going to be a new melee AT, so demand for 'good' melee IO sets will be astronomical. That's a good place to look for profit.
But basically, anything you do will earn you money.
Making inf after a new issue release is like shooting fish in a barrel, and this is unlike any release since CoV. It's going to be a market tsunami. -
Quote:merits are a great way to make inf. Thanks again for the AE advice. I'm going to look into it today. I'm having a lot of fun with the official storylines though. I wonder if you can use Merits from traditional Story Arcs to make any sort of comparable money on the way up.
story arcs don't tend to award enough of them to live off, but if you supplemented them with a Task Force now and then you could definitely gather a tidy pile together and make some good inf. -
Quote:Sort of the same here. I'd been drifting away from 'the big two' for years, but they completely lost me during the corporate era of multiple covers, crossovers that entangled the whole 'universe' and wholesale reinvention of characters and teams. The retcons mentioned in the OP, and many, MANY others that occurred in the 90s, define the essence of why I love playing CoH and various superhero PnP RPGs. In short, I gave up READING comics, and began exclusively PLAYING them.
I mostly ignore mainstream superhero comics because in a world where nothing is permanent nothing really matters. Whatever goes on with this iteration of a hero team you like will probably get erased by some future creative team. I'm not going to get invested in characters and history that will be overritten at the whim of an editor who thinks he can drum up some extra sales to meet quarterly expectation from the higher ups. -
Quote:co-sign on Ronin- I always forget about that one, a fantastic late career return to form for John Frankenheimer.
and while we're talking chases, how about the entire third reel of The Road Warrior?
WOOOOOOOOOO! -
Quote:I've played a good number of really excellent 'lowbie friendly' arcs, although I can't remember names or ID#'s offhand (it would be great if the MA interface acted more like a web browser and let us 'bookmark' favorite arcs).THANK YOU for this. Everything I've seen talks about using the Architect at 50 or mid-30s. This is the first time I've seen anyone mention the Architect as a good place to check out at very low levels. It's the feature I'm most interested in now that I've returned
Hit the MA forum and look around, or just start a thread asking for suggestions, I'm sure they'll be more than happy to give you some good advice.
There is a ton of garbage in MA, but also a lot of really polished, engaging, well done arcs for the lower levels.
/edit
Also, something I forgot because I never spend tickets on rares, but it would be dirt simple for a low level character to earn a few tens of millions just buying 'in demand' rares outright. I'm not a fan of the 10-14 pool although some swear by it, so if I were doing this I'd probably invest at least some of my tickets in rares.
