TRON UPRISING:
For those that havent yet watched this, this cartoon takes place between TRON and TRON LEGACY. The cartoon starts up sometime after CLUs rebellion and Flynn being sent into exile. We also see in the flashback that CLU defeated TRON.
Now in the cartoon CLU sends General Tessler to take over Argon City, one of the last free cities on the grid. His forces arrive and drop a statue of CLU into place and declare that they are now under CLUs authority, etc. A young engineer program named Beck and his friends do not like this and one of Becks friends gets derezzed while arguing with a trooper. Beck retrieves his friends disc and knows that if TRON were there things would be different. The general consensus among the public is that TRON is dead and CLU cant be stopped. Later that night, Beck makes a decision. He accesses his ID Disc and alters the code on it so that when he clips it back in place his outfit will change in appearance so that its circuit lines alter and he wears the T Crest of TRON. Concealing his face and voice via a helmet he blows up the statue and rides off on a light cycle. The troops see him and report in stating that it looked like it was TRON. CLU assures Tessler that TRON is dead by CLUs own hand. Troopers are dispatched and Beck deals with them until Lt. Paige arrives who is a more capable fighter then the average trooper. She is determined to stop Beck but is also growing infatuated with Beck as she wonders who he is. Beck escapes into the far wilderness of the grid and Paige reports to base stating that while Beck got away and is a good fight that hes no TRON and quotes CLUs party line that TRON is dead.
Beck finds an abandoned offroad vehicle and fixes it and rides towards home when a mysterious red and black program easily outrides him and subdues him. Beck awakes somewhere and the mystery program speaks to Beck, asking why he did what he did and what his motives are and what he will do now etc. Beck eventually gets free and states that even if he dies the revolution has begun as long as people think TRON lives. Their fight is brief and the mystery program shows he is easily faster and stronger then Beck and more experienced, but it ends with each having their disc at the others throat. Beck demands to be free or it is over for the both of them. The mystery program states that Beck wont kill him and that Beck was right about one thing, he then retracts his helmet and has his black and red costume revert to its normal grey with white circuit lines and he stands revealed as TRON! He then says Im not dead
TRON tells Beck that he needs help and feels Beck is the one he has been seeking. Beck asks what was he seeking and TRON responds the next TRON. TRON steps into a scanner beam and shows Beck just how injured he was thanks to CLU. The scars are extensive on his torso and up his neck and left side of his face. Beck doubts that he can be the next TRON and leaves. Later his boss pulls him aside and the conversation makes it clear that his boss knows or at least suspects Beck blew up the statue. Paige arrives and warns them that if the Renegade isnt revealed and captured or surrenders that programs will soon be volunteering for the games. Later Tessler accelerates things by rounding up some of Becks friends. Beck is ready to fight on the spot but his boss stops him. Later Beck slips away and adjusts his costume back into TRON mode and rides off to save his friends. Beck succeeds and manages to survive a battle with General Tessler despite Tessler having superior force of arms. Beck manages to Disarm Tessler and escape and goes back to TRONs hidden base. Beck now knows he is ready and wants to fight. TRON tells Beck he isn t quite ready yet. TRON removes his own disc and separates it into two segments and gives one to Beck. Beck separates his own disc and puts TRONs segment onto one of his own then attaches the modified disc to himself and TRONs costume loads onto Beck. TRON then takes him to be trained. (Whether this disc exchange upgrades Becks strength and speed is unknown as TRON shows in other episodes that he can still outfight Beck).
Next Ep: becks training begins but he still has doubts about himself. TRON of course is a strict teacher. Beck later heads home and evades a patrol but ends up hiding in a prisoner cube with others and they are taken to the games! One of Becks companions is a veteran of the ISO WARS and that he came to Argon after hearing about the Renegade that is fighting back and believes the Renegade is TRON. He and Beck survive the games, Beck is set free and his companion is sentenced to be derezzed. TRON tells Beck that until his companion is derezzed he hasnt failed. Beck then changes his costume to TRON mode and heads out. He rescues him and as they are escaping on the seas, TRON shows up in a submersible vehicle to blast their pursuers. Beck/Tron tells his companion that was a friend. His companion then leaves to spread the word for the revolution TRON LIVES! Also in this episode we see the classic light cycle and BIT!
Next EP: Beck must destroy an energy drill that threatens the city. Along the way he must save some programs on an underground cycle race, one of his coworkers decides the Renegade must be stopped and Beck fights Paige again. We also see some signs of power struggle contention between Paige and Pavel, Teslers second in command.
Next Ep: Identity Theft takes on a new meaning as Becks disc is stolen and he and TRON race to get it back. Remember: everything a program sees, does, learns is recorded on their disc so his TRON activities are recorded, but there is an added danger. When a program is separated from their disc for too long, they slowly but surely lose their memories completely! This slowly happens to Beck as they seek his disc with the aid of a program named Lux and another one named Cobol. Turns out Cobol is the one behind it all and after learning from the disc that Beck is the Renegade they plan to let Becks memory fade then turn him in to CLU for repurposing via obtaining a different ID disc. TRON disguises in a black suit/helmet with white lights to aid Beck. TRON is captured and held by Lux as Cobol takes Beck away. TRON convinces Lux that COBOL isnt to be trusted. She frees TRON and we see in this episode that TRON can still fight but only for short times until his wounds catch up with him. Cobol has Becks disc and Beck is about to derez TRON when TRON shows his face and reminds Beck that he isnt a killer no matter what that they are indeed friends. Cobol and Lux are shocked to see that TRON lives, and Cobol fights TRON some more. TRON gets Becks disc and tosses it back to Beck who reconnects it and gets his memories back. He beats Cobol and Lux derezzes Cobol. They escape after Lux gives them cobols disc and her own and sacrifices herself so they can escape. TRON later states that long ago he let friendship cloud his judgment and that he paid a heavy price for it. Beck thinks he was talking about CLU
This ep could well explain how TRON becomes Rinzler. CLU likely will end up capturing TRON and separate him from his disc until his memories fade enough, then attach the Rinzler disc to him. CLU then puts a memory block on TRONs own disc and returns it to TRON/Rinzler to use as a second weapon. We shall see ..
Next EP: Beck/TRON and Paige are forced to work together to survive a mutually destructive situation and we learn Paiges origin and in flashback we see Quorra!
Next EP: Beck is sent to steal a power mod and bring in the scientist alive. The plan only partially succeeds as the scientist gets derezzed but the power mod is intact. It is a massive boost to strength and speed and Beck takes it to be destroyed at the garage he works at as there is a high power laser there. However he walks into a trap and is getting dogpiled by Teslers troops and in a desperation move he inserts the power mod into his disc which activates it and boosts his powers and his tendency to destroy. (think back to the 90s Spidey cartoon and third movie to how the symbiote makes the host personality darker and more hostile) Beck/TRON then confronts Tesler and was going to win when he saw his boss Able nearby and had to save him. Able thinks Beck is TRON and is wounded but survives. TRON is angry that Beck didnt destroy it and they fight for a moment until Beck comes to his senses, TRON then assures Beck that he was chosen because he was smart and capable and doesnt need the power mod. Pavel takes the garage hostage to draw out the Renegade and gets the power mod before Beck destroys it. He powers up and fights Beck but Beck manages to outwit him and get the power mod away from him and gets it cut in half by a laser. However at the end we see Pavel has one of the pieces and then he laughs hysterically as the piece regenerates into a whole .
It is not known if Beck has the other piece and if it regenerated too .
In October 2012 the series returns from hiatus with a two parter called SCARS. This two parter is set to reveal more of what happened to TRON. A program named DYSON comes to Argon City, TRON learns of this and we see the scar on his neck and face start to glow and slowly spread We learn that DYSON betrayed TRON to CLU and is apparently the one that gave TRON his scars. TRON now wants revenge and is determined to get it at all costs. He subdues Beck and reclaims his disc segment to restore his costume. We then see fight scenes that show the scar damage is spreading over TRONs face. Either he will turn into Rinzler by the time this two parter is over or he will be well on the path to becoming Rinzler.
Overall an excellent series, 18 episodes are said to be ordered for the first season and the ratings are high so far. It is not known if there will be a season 2. Excellent animation and music and story, the only flaw is that we pretty much know that Becks efforts are doomed to fail as he is not mentioned in TRON Legacy at all. Will Tron become Rinzler and be sent to derez the Renegade? -
Thanks Hit Streak. For grins, can you all activate badges like Passport and the Anniversary badges to award to alts that are logged in? Might as well rack up as many as possible before the sunset. (note: I don't expect bug-hunter of course

Quote:They both copy the other. Sentry = Superman rip off, Alan Scott being gay copies Northstar of Alpha Flight are two examples.Actually, Marvel's Secret Wars happened *before* DC's Crisis on Infinite Earths. (DC's copying of Marvel goes way back.)
Quote:I think the main reason Marvel's never had a company-wide shake-up comparable to DC's is because they never let their continuity get completely screwed up. DC has had a long line of terrible Editors-in-Chief making stupid decisions, which was only recently matched by Joe Quesada over at Marvel. Although to be fair, DC *is* about 30 years older than Marvel if we're counting from the Stan Lee Era of the mid-60s. (Which really is the Marvel we're talking about.)
Quote:I agree that Infinity Gauntlet was completely badass at the time. I'm not sure how it would hold up today. I'm sure Starlin's crazy galactic sensibility is still on display. -
Quote:True but the X-men have been also about fighting for mutant rights, or perhaps the best term is equal rights. Getting more mutants into the Avengers is a big step, granted they've had Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver, Beast and Wolverine as members but more integration could work.If you're an X-Men fan A vs. X is a great jumping OFF point.
The X-Men are dead. Marvel killed them with their own hands. Somewhat integrating them into the Avengers line may seem like a keen idea, but it destroys the entire foundation that the X-Men are built on. They're social outcasts who fight the monsters (both mutant and human), that other groups like the Avengers turn a blind eye to.
Also I'm not sure that it's a case of Avengers turning a blind eye, though granted for the sake of the plot that may work, but it is also likely that the X-men could contact the Avengers and get a recording "Sorry we can't assist you right now, we are all out battling THANOS (or insert threat name here) at this time, please leave a message and if the world isn't annihilated we will contact you as soon as we are able."
Only thing I'm remotely curious about the aftermath of AvX would be:
1. How will the judge Cyclops for what he's done.
2. The changes the Phoenix 5 made to the Earth to better it.....will they be reversed?
3. Captain Mar-Vell, revived by the Phoenix, killed again by the Phoenix yet his body was on that planet with plant life growing around him......the writer did state on Twitter "how do you know this was the last of him?" -

Quote:While true that the existence of 106 episodes is in question, there are rumors that more eps have been found or rediscovered either by studios or fans that submit them for restoration/remastering. Also supposedly some fans that have lost eps on tape are digitizing them and putting them on the web, but somehow I doubt the BBC would take kindly to that even though technically the person's actions could be construed as preserving the episode. An uncle of mine had a tape collection that had many early Dr Who's that was sadly lost in a fire a few years ago. Shame too as the way he described it, it was a complete collection of at least the first 4 Docs.....I suspect the BBC would have been ecstatic to get their hands on that collection as he was very careful about recording and storage.Probably a lot, tbh, but you would be missing out on a LOT of classic 60's sci0fi
I'm also watching them all from the beginning, halfway through season 2 atm, just about to watch the Chase. Not an easy task, given that 106 episodes don't exist so I'm having to watch reconstructions and audio recordings and the like, but I'm really enjoying it. It's fun to see how bad the cliffhangers were back in the early stuff......oh noes!! Someone is about to walk around this corner and see us!!.....quick, walk away quietly!!......phew!
But a lot of the early serials don't really reference much until at least the second Doctor when we find out more about the Time Lords etc.
I do like though how with even the first episodes of Doc 1 that the story/mystery and acting talents of the cast can pretty much compensate for the FX of the era and low budget. -
Well thanks to a pal of mine loaning me some files and DVD's I'm now able to go back and start rewatching Dr. Who back at the beginning with Doctor 1. The plan is to watch the episodes starting from the beginning and work my way up to the present, but obviously we are speaking of many episodes and many Doctors. So, are there any stories or Doctors from the classics that could be skipped or at least delayed for awhile?

Quote:It's supposed to be subtitled only, just like when Ultraman TIGA hit DVD here after it was briefly on TV on Saturdays with one of the worst dubbing jobs ever.I hope this isn't the silly dub of the series that was on TNT nearly 20 years ago. They tried for a USA's Night Flight Dynaman flavor for the dub but it was only partially successful in my opinion.
Hopefully this means that other Ultra Series will start coming over here, I'd like to get some nice shiny copies of Return of Ultraman and Ultraman Leo.
Ultraseven would also be the first Ultra to start the "guest starring" in other Ultra series starting with Episode 18 of the Return of Ultraman, and in Ep38 of that same series Ultraseven and the original Ultraman (and their human hosts, yes this means Hayata) would appear to help rescue and revive New Ultraman/Ultraman Jack.
Ultraseven would also appear in the Ace and Taro series and his human form would be the defense force leader in Ultraman Leo. In ep 1 of Ultraman Leo, Seven was triple teamed by some tough monsters and was badly beaten when Leo arrived to drive off the monsters. Seven's right leg was twisted around several times and one can hear the sounds of bones breaking. The result was that after he shifted to human form and later tried to transform he couldn't link up with his device and his device would overload and burn out thus trapping him in human form. In ep 40 of Leo's series, Seven was presumed killed along with the defense force but we see in the last Leo ep that he is alive. -

The second series of the long running Ultraman franchise finally comes to North America with an official subtitled release. One minor note, there will be one episode not included in this series as it is banned in Japan for evoking bad memories of Hiroshima.
The original Ultraman does not appear in this series.
Ultraseven, while on an exploration and mapping mission in the galaxy comes to Earth. Once there he begins to see why the original Ultraman defended it and begins to like Earth and the humans. He then sees two people about to have a fatal accident and that one is going to sacrifice himself to save the other. Ultraseven saves them both before they are injured or killed, and then scans the one that was going to sacrifice himself and then uses his Ultra-powers to use the human as a template to create a human form for him to transform into. Thus is born Dan Morobishi, human form of Ultraseven!
The major downside to shapeshifting into a human form instead of merging with another human is that catastrophic injuries or power loss in Ultraseven form WILL translate into serious injuries when he turns human again.
Ultraseven is still among the most popular of all the Ultra's and has been reused many times for spinoff movies, OVA's and guest starring in other Ultra series.
Now if they can release Return of Ultraman that would be great. -
Quote:I agree that it sounds like Paragon is trying to disengage from NCSoft, an action I wholeheartedly support. If there is a "service interruption" as it were after Nov 30th until we can get reactivated again, so be it. I have no problem with that whatsoever as the game will be saved and out of NCSoft's hands.I *think* they're trying to legally uncouple the studio and all its assets from NCsoft/NCwest so it becomes it's own separate legal business entity (assuming NCsoft agree to relinquish "ownership" over several pieces of... "stuff." The negotiations would require a hard separation date between companies (for a variety of reasons) but that August 24th cutoff date for refunds is *very* telling.
Plenty of complications and financial implications arise from this kind of transaction (not accounting for global legalities as well) and there's a chance the game could be "inaccessible" after November 30th until such time as service is restored...
Tricky and I'm oversimplifying all the legalities and risks involved to do something like this, but I think NCsoft's intent to provide refunds is a pretty good reason to stay hopeful.
As to the "Stuff", if that means all new server hardware due to NCSoft wanting the hardware I have minimal problems with that as long as all the software and databases (ie: OUR CHARACTERS) are not deleted or "lost". If we must suffer character loss and start all over again so be it, but that may be a deal breaker for some players.....unless we are allowed to restore our backups made with Titan's Sentinel downloader.
Keep up the fight everyone, last I looked the save COH petition was over 19.1 k ! -
Quote:NCsoft has to cease billing and issue refunds whether the game goes dark or gets sold off. That would be the petition that NCSoft is still choosing to ignore, right?
Unfortunately, with today's "here's how you get your money back" announcement from NCSoft I think we can officially say that the proverbial fork has been stuck in City of Heroes.
Thanks, as always, to Zwill and the rest of the team for many great years and an awesome game.
-Buxley -
Quote:Yes I do understand that, thanks. Whether shut down or sold or even release the code for private servers, they still need to shut down billing and separate themselves from it.And you've got to remember, this is OFFICIALLY what is happening, and they have to proceed as such. They can't dance around pretending like it isn't while trying to work something out, they have to handle it in a proffesional manner, and that is not going to include little blurbs about how it might not end. I am sure Zwillinger would LOVE to give us details or even just say that the meetings are ongoing, but he can't, and announcements like this are important for what is going on.
-
Quote:qftit's nice to finally hear something about refunds. I'll keep an eye on my bank account to see if/when it goes through.
All you people worried that this means the game is dead or that the "save coh" attempts have all failed - nothing has changed. Nc soft changing their mind was always the least likely occurence. The main chance the game has had since then is that nc soft will allow another publisher (or the former paragon employees themselves as a new company) to buy the game (ip, software, and all) and continue it under that new publisher's banner.
And that hope has not changed by nc soft finally offering refunds, because nc soft would not be involved in the "new" coh.
Keep up the fight. -
-
If it makes you feel better the petition to save COH is 19.1k signatures as of now.
-
Quote:Not to mention we are pretty spoiled when it comes to character creation in COH and all the options we get.The ad for trial download was still up today. It's an interesting and good game except for the travel speeds, but us CoHers are all spoiled on that front.
CO, DCUO are so restrictive, Secret World was okay and SWTOR depends on the gear you get. -

Autonomous cars........AUTOBOTS! TRANSFORM AND ROLL OUT! -
-
Well here's hoping they develop this AND the navigational deflector system that constantly sweeps space debris out of the way of the ship to avoid collisions in space..... force = mass times acceleration......also known as KABOOM!
Still if we can finally develop warp technology that could be a great boon to mankind and we may finally reach the stars. A quick warp jump to Mars, send people down to the planet, whoever sets foot first on Mars quotes Neil Armstrong, then we see about setting up some type of base on Mars, likely bio domes of some kind. After that we start looking at Alpha Centauri and then...beyond. -

Thanks. I'll have to look for that. Kind of funny to think of the Master as being scared of an incarnation of the Doctor.
-
Quote:Netflix has a fairly nice assortment of Dr. Who classic eps, some are streaming most are just rental. And thus someone who was raised with 'Hooked on Phonics' might hear a word they didn't know how to spell spoken that way and get the wrong idea how to spell it... is what I was getting at. I wasn't impugning the actors for getting it wrong.
Indeed. Wasn't that revealed in the 'Genesis of the Daleks' episode I referenced earlier? It's been awhile since I saw it... I wonder if it's on Netflix streaming...
Btw, my Classic Dr. Who memories are a bit hazy but wasn't there a story where the Master came back to the present Doctor due to a future incarnation of the Doctor being so ruthless that even the Master was scared of him? -
Quote:Heh, maybe fan demand is finally making Marvel wake up and realize the damage they did with that.In regards to the Joephisto marriage erasure. There's fan speculation on a few forums here and there that this might be mentioned or touched upon in the upcoming Amazing Spider-Man issue 700 coming out around December.
Or maybe they just don't have the guts to reverse Joephito's stupidity.
Peter and MJ deciding to get married in the current timeline won't solve the problem. The solution is to fix the past to purge Mephisto's changes and if Aunt May dies as a result, well I'm fine with that.
