Quote:This! Alot of this!Yes, it absolutely means there shouldn't be pieces for them on the market. Do you understand that people playing the game is how those pieces get there to begin with? People like you are a big part why there are no low-level goods for sale. You want to race to 50 and consume the things others have produced, and you wonder why people are paying 500M inf for one purple. You and all your buds who race to 50 are inflating the number of people with 50s competing for those items. If you're PLing in the AE you're making it even worse, because you aren't producing any purples while you're in there.
Tongue-in-cheek: AE is the cause of market climate today, and devs are the sole cause of AE, thus Devs=inflammatory inflation. -
Maybe I'm not eligible for the club since I don't do in game teabagging...
I do however manage to, with a touch of irony, take a fire/kin from 14m to inf cap without farming.

1. Players are the cause of market prices.
2. Marketeers tend to stabilize prices.
3. If you ever sold or bought something on the market, you're a marketeer, thus ebil. -
Quote:3. Why in Issue 17 are the Epic Archetypes unlocks being lowered to level 20? Will there be a new Epic Archetype available at level 50?
For this question we consulted our veteran producer Ghost Falcon, who had this to say:
Ever since Hero Epic Archetypes and Villain Epic Archetypes were introduced, we have continued to monitor the number of Epic Archetypes created. We discovered that there are many long-time Veteran players who do not have Level 50s, and were unable to unlock all the Epic Archetypes.
Paragon Studios spent a lot of effort and time creating those Archetypes, and we feel that this change lowers the barriers and will give Epic AT access to a larger percentage of our player base. With the upcoming Going Rogue expansion, we felt that this change will allow players to create an Epic AT character, and give them a head-start if they wanted to cross the line and bring their character(s) to the opposite side.
Paragon Studios continues to evaluate and examine the state of the game, and will always strive to offer our player base more options while still preserving a sense of achievement.
There are no new Epic archetypes planned for 50. As previously mentioned, Paragon Studios is introducing an End-Game system, where players can continue to evolve their character(s).
So I hope this answers the majority of the immediate questions you folks have regarding the recent announcements about I17 and Going Rogue. Theres a lot more information coming, and well bring it to you as soon as we can.
Thanks,
I feel that lvl 40 would be a more appropriate level to unlock Epic's. That way you at least have to work "a little" to get it. -
Nope, no stutter before reinstall. Smooth as silk. I'll do a reinstall of the gfx drivers to see if the install went bad somehow. If that doesn't work, I'll roll back to 191.07 and try that.
I'm ruling out network problems since netgraph shows nothing and the mrs is playing just fine next to me when it happens. I'm also gonna disable vmware and messenger during a session to see if that helps.
Thanks! -

Quote:Doesn't really matter.I always assumed it was because the devs hated you and wanted to annoy you. Or it could be because the build number for Going Rogue isn't super-secret information.
The fact that "Pistols" is capitalized, on the other hand, is something you're only going to get from me and my special sources of information. I don't think they released that information at HeroCon, they only formally announced that "Ultra Mode" was not going to have a hyphen.
Castle is more popular than I am and he gets even more privileged information than I do. Go hate on him. I know less than 96% of what he does.
What does matter however, is the fact that the info from Arcanaville so far haven't been bad in any way.
What matters is that "leaks" coming from Arcanaville are considered facts (or as near facts you can come without backing it with evidence). You don't have to be a genious to figure out that her PM's to the devs will be read and taken seriously, and that the answers to those PM's will reveal abit more info than the rest of us will get.
As to the 8mb patch, I'll also place my guess on booster pack or similar rather than anything that actually affects how the game works/is played. -
Update:
My traps/ice called Frosthold on Freedom is now 23, and he's tons of fun. Popping 2 purples, I even managed to not only survive, but take out 2 full 0x8 spawns at once when I hit 22 and had snowstorm + SO's. It did take quite some time, but it was doable.
The damage from ice storm isn't that impressive so far. It's an insane amount of ticks on the DoT, but it's tiny amounts and I feel sorry for blasters if they do 0.42dmg/tick as well.
Also, the scatter is a bit of a problem. I can tell that I need to increase the hold duration on PGT, and add slows to caltrops and the ice powers.
I haven't picked up Triage, and so far I haven't found a need for it either. There's just not enough damage left coming through, since all the mobs are busy puking, trying to get away from the debuffs, caltrops, icestorm to be worth wasting a power slot on a fixed position heal yet.
Conclusion: Huge potential in this toon. I've found myself on teams several times already, where not only have they waited for me to recharge the good stuff, but they've completely altered tactics during play to where I set up, and the team has gone herding/pulling into the traps to get nice and tight bunches. I've even been the lead tank on one team (not the fastest, I admit that, but it worked). -
Oooh, I've completely missed the CoHHelper. Very nice! Thanks!
I should be back home from work in about.. 11 hours, so I'll do it then. -
Quote:Nope, no looping, and it's not happening very often, perhaps once every 10-20 minutes, but usually when using powers that make more noise with bigger groups, like Fulcrum Shift and the likes. I'm ruling out memory and lag because the mrs don't freeze when it happens to me, and 8GB RAM should be enough, even with odd memory leaks accounted for.Is the audio looping? If so it's an error on your side. Your processor is either getting caught trying to execute a loop or is simply running too slow. It may be running at a different speed than your video and audio cards. Either that or your video drivers may not be functioning properly.
If the sound is playing in a consistent stream the issue becomes a bit more vague. It could just be lag or a lack of adequate memory. I need more information to narrow it down.
I'll post a dxdiag when I get home.
Quote:Have you tried running the game in compatibility mode? The Windows 7 video drivers for OpenGL don't seem too hot.
1. Right click on the program's shortcut.
2. Click on Properties.
3. Click on the Compatibility tab
4. Check the Run this program in compatibility mode for box.
5. Click on the drop down menu arrow and select Windows 98 / Windows ME.
6. Click OK.
Thanks to both of you for the input! -
I just reinstalled W7 x64 on SSD and also updated videodrivers to latest from nvidia.com. Now I experience occasional and seemingly very random freezes where the video bit locks up for 1-2 seconds, but audio keeps going in the background.
Is this only happening to me or do others experience it as well? I'm just looking for a clue wether this is CoH related, or windows/hardware related so I get an idea of where to start troubleshooting. My current train of thought is that it's non-CoH related, and rather a driver issue.
Not temperature related due to watercooling and the highest temp in the system is the CPU which never goes above 55°C/131°F.
Oh yeah, overview of hardware as well:
CPU: Core2Quad stable@3.4Ghz
GFX: Nvidia 280GTX
RAM: 8GB OCZ XTC PC8500
MB: Gigabyte EP45-DS3P
HD: Intel X25-M 80GB
Thanks. -
Gah, I give in... TV has gotten a firm hold of me and I like it. Can't stop.. watching...

Quote:Now you're coming off as trolling.cold/rad is better than cold/ice
storm/rad is better than storm/ice
kin/rad is the best as you mentioned
dark/rad is the best and will be my next defender
sonic/rad is better than any other choice
FF/rad is the best
traps/rad is the best
ta/rad is the best (irradiate on top of oil slick burning? yes please)
emp/rad if you are only going to very rarely attack, why not have one of them be irradiate and the other be comsic burst? exactly.
My first 50 was a kin/rad, and even though it's alot of awesome walking through the room, I'm not sure I would call it "best". -
This discussion is interesting in a theoretical way, but the 90% mitigation isn't as optimal as this thread letss on, due to the lack of DefDebuffResists through IO's, and the simple fact that a blaster with 45% defense getting hit once by any lethal damage boss, will be very low on health, no longer soft capped and alot easier to hit.
So yeah, defense is broken against the right type of mobs, but so are other things (I'm not naming fire/kins or arch/mm blasters here, no way, not gonna happen). Take your softcapped toon to the shard, or fight Neuron's robot, or perhaps just go up against Earth Thorn Casters, Devouring Earth, Tuatha De Bannon, Madness mage's, Master illusionists, Nemesis (I just love being on the recieving end of vengeance, don't you?) or Knives of Artemis... When you're done, let's talk this through again.
So yeah, softcap is awesome for the perfect farm, but then again you could just do it like we did before IO's, and eat 4 purples when things are starting to look grim. -
Why won't the devs just go ahead and release the numbers? As it is, it'll become known anyway with the rate this is going (I'd help if I had any merits to roll).
-
If faction doesn't matter, fire/SD brute (850% dmg cap) and fire/kin corr would be my choice. Problem for the kin will be firing off FS because the brute will kill most stuff during the animation of FS.
-
Thanks for the reply. Issue is still unresolved tho even with those tricks.
-
Quote:...and the /ice doesn't stack it's slows, doesn't do exotic damage, nor have blaster level damage output on 2 powers. I will most certainly not roll myself one of these then.Traps is a horrible, horrible set. It does not give all of your teammates approximately 20% defense which cannot be backed up with a reasonably large ToHit debuff and the ability to give a regeneration boost to allies. Offensively it doesn't have a power that gives a 26.6% resistance debuff along with a nice defense debuff. Finally it doesn't have a power that not only acts as a short duration hold but also debuffs enemies.
To summarize, Traps is an awful set that should be removed from the game.
I hope that helps -
Quote:I can't stand the sonic noise. Tried many times but never make it very far..It's one of the few ones I would pick with Traps. I would go, /sonic, /ice, and then /dark if you are looking for min/max. I would do /dual pistols when defenders get them just for the pure sexy factor.
I'd love /dual pistols, but I'll hit 50 way before GR goes live, so I'll just save the dual pistols to a blaster or corruptor.
Thanks! Wasn't very convincing tho.
...and don't forget the improved gfx. -
* 1 rusty 5 inch nail thru foot
* Nose broken (3 fractures) during a fight
* Knee dislocated twice (90 degree bend sideways) during martial arts
* Knife cut across entire palm, bones visible.
* Gun shot wound (BB gun + idiot + my thumb = blood)
Of those, I think the knee was the most painful thing. If not, slamming it against a door post to get it back into position certainly was. -
...because my altitis is acting up again, and I have this picture in my head of traps/ice doing some seriously insane things. I might be very wrong tho, but on paper it looks pretty decent to me.
-
I'm trying to set up an defendable object that I want to be heavily guarded, but no matter what I do, the spawn surrounding it is just a few (5-6) mobs.
I've even gone so far that I'm looking at popular farm mishes and trying to replicate it to see how to affect it, but no matter what I do, the spawn just stays the same.
Last version I did (copied), I tried it with the troll cave, an ally surrounded by medium (also tried hard) and having the release trigger the defendable object and it's spawn, but still no go.
What I really would like to do, is have a defendable object that is under heavy attack, and then after the first group is defeated, have an ambush coming and then another one etc. Basically a team challenge for honing teamwork for my SG. -
Today is 7 days since my -1.1B that left me with 14m in pocket. Now I'm currently at 974m, so 960m/week. This is one toon only, but also a couple of drops.
Oh, and I've really put plenty effort into it, so I'm not one of the "I market 2 minutes a month and make 10B each time I fart" market masters. -
Quote:While I agree on your point of view regarding being shot into a spawn by a random SB, I also would like to add that if you're trying to avoid spawns, you're most likely not running straight towards them, and if you do it's probably because they're far enough away for you to not care about changing direction yet, thus unless you have the reflexes of a drugged sloth, you'll be able to hit the brakes.I'm sorry Nerf but this statement fails only because of the unanticipated application of drive-by SB's. Almost everyone can navigate with an SB on when they know in advance it being applied. However that is not the case when someone SB's random people with no warning.
We all quickly learn how to keep a safe distance from mobs to avoid drawing fire as we navigate city zones. Even low level characters can move around PI if they are careful.
The problem with unasked for SB's is that the sudden burst of speed can easily send anyone careening into an unwanted firefight before they can stop simply because the buff was unexpected.
That's when people start getting angry. There they were on their way to put that wing recipe they just crafted at the tailor in Steel Canyon or Independence Port. They are almost there when someone nails them with an SB and they suddenly find themselves rocketing into a mob that gets them ganked. Now they have to start over at the hospital at the other end of the friggin zone.
However, if you're heading straight for a group, my guess is you're going there to fight anyway.
...I also would like to add that you still have a point. SB can get you killed, but it should be a very rare occurance. Sub par hardware, lousy connection, physical conditions etc are valid reasons I've heard for disliking or even being unable to play with SB applied, and that should of course be a reason to avoid buffing that player.
Also, the reason I wrote that was because of statements like this below, which I interpret as meaning all buffs (fortitude, forge, bubbles/shields, heat loss etc), but recognizing you from years back, I'm pretty sure you were aware of that and just wanted to point out the SB issue.I'll revise my previous statement to exclude the unanticipated application of drive-by SB then.
Quote:They assume I both want and need their "help", when often times I don't. They can tell when I do want it; I'll join a team with them. Otherwise, I don't want it, I don't need it, and I think it's terribly rude and a touch arrogant to assume that I want/need YOUR help to do whatever it is I'm doing.
I'm doing fine on my own, thanks. I want to learn to master my character by learning what I can and cannot do at each level. That means your "help" is actually in my way and makes me waste my game time while I wait for it to wear off so I can go back to what I was doing.
