    Latest update from me...

The test server updater works fine for the US servers.

For some reason it doesn't work at all for the EU servers.

My account, of course, is now on the EU servers. Typical.

The downloaded test launcher doesn't work for me, exactly the same problem.

Here is the answer to my ticket (They obviously haven't looked at the early part of this thread):
Thank you for contacting NCsoft Technical Support.

As a troubleshooting step, please try running the game in Safe Mode. You can set this mode for the game by doing the following:

    1. Launch City of Heroes.

    2. Proceed to the “User Agreement” section.

    3. Before clicking the “I Agree” button (lower right corner), place a checkmark in the box labeled “Safe Mode.”

    4. Click “I Agree.”

This will force the game to run at the minimum graphics/video settings. This is not intended as a permanent solution , but this is being requested so that we can gauge whether these lowered settings will have any effect on the problem at hand.

If this improved the issue, then, while in Safe Mode, set "Advanced Graphics Settings" to "Disabled" and move the "Graphics Quality" slider to a setting that provides good balance between performance and quality. If you'd like you can then enable the advanced graphics settings and continue to tweak the settings.

We look forward to your reply.

    Regards,
    Mark

Took my computer 3 hours 20 minutes to reach the Log In screen.

I suggest NOT watching "Daywalkers" whilst waiting to log in; it's not a good film.

I didn't see the announcement, I had just spent an age making a new Character, arrived in the tutorial and was forcibly logged out.

I would also check your watch.. my clock says 7.47am on Sunday Morning :-)

    Updater down?

Mine has been doing this since the last software update from Apple.

I open Safari, empty the cache and dscacheutil -flushcache into terminal and everything works fine.

    Help!!

    Try using this:http://www.cityofheroes.com/uk/trial/index.html

It's a no credit card required trial, so you set up your account and don't need a card and can add time using time cards once the trial runs out. The trial might be just 7 days though.

Meh, I don't know. Hopefully it'll help you get started :-)
  9. I find the same bug with the ghost slaying axe - I rarely see it and the attack often just generates noise.

I have to agree also with the SoA bugs on bugs issues. I gave them up when I saw how buggy they were. It's a shame really because people who overlook their problems do seem to enjoy them.

    Wentworths.

My graphics crashed virtually every time I go into Wentowrth in SC on Defiant. The picture breaks up into random vector lines and colours except dialogue boxes and the power trays etc which stay the same. This crash causes the whole computer to go down.

  12. In case anyone is interested...

We came, we saw and with 3 blasters, 2 defenders, 2 PB's and a scrapper we kicked some sky raider back-side. British Burner got upset in the reactor room because we wouldn't let him have a coolant belt, feeling instead that sidekicks get brightly coloured costumes and mentors get the nice toys. He then accused Wicca of not being a proper fire blaster as she hadn't died.
Wicca had to explain to her erstwhile sidekick that fire blasters don't have to die if they're the old fashioned sort who let tankers go in first and don't use rain of fire to break taunt auras.

    T'was great fun guys. Cheers.

Very nice team, was great meeting you all.

  14. Is there a supergroup out there suitable for a part-time old player, by any chance?

I have little interest in power levelling, no interest in PvP in particular but do enjoy casual teaming.

    My current projects are:-

Matt Black - Level 15 Spines/Dark scrapper on Union
Free - Level 26 Peacebringer on Defiant

And possibly a few others I might be picking up again.

One caveat - I am not only a casual and not full-time player, but I am also +12 GMT as I live and play in New Zealand.

I have had trouble finding SG's as when I join, I only ever play at times when I am the only one on. You can imagine that teaming at times in the early hours can be difficult so I am looking for a SG where players are active so I can ease the burden of teaming occasionally.

    Cheers guys.

Apologies for the cross-post, the same question is asked on the Union board too. I don't have a home server as such.

  16. Welcome to the fun and carnage that is Robotics. My little piece of advice just for the record...

I'm not going to harp on about the advantages of IO's and SO's and stuff since it's all too new and I am still in sell-sell-sell mode, but have a little look into the various bonuses in the guides section, I am sure there's a list here or on the US boards.

I have a 42 Bot 'n' Bubbs MM and you chose well for a fun set to play with. My advice with the primary set you seem to have followed already more or less. Personally, I like to have Repair in there as a nice but slow recharging heal. When your Assault Bot is way down low on HP, you'll appreciate it tremendously. To supliment that, try to work Aid Other into your build earlier for a smaller but fast recharging heal that keeps the bots working all the harder for you.

Next is the Assault-Tactics-Manouvers thing. The Leadership Pool. I have respecced into and out of all of these at one point or another, kind of. I like to have all three and would recommend them to any mastermind out there.

I would suggest dropping Detention Field and Repulsion Field. Detention you don't need often enough to justify it and Repulsion Field is an aggro attractor. Why encourage the bad guys to shoot you instead of the Bots?

Similarly, I personally don't like Force Bubble. I found it difficult to keep control of any fight with it turned on, so my own preference was to drop it. Others like it a lot, so I would suggest saving a respec for after you've had chance to try it out.

finally, read about ED, Enhancement Diversification. You may have missed it if you've been in and out of the game. Basically, diminishing returns on enhancements mean that the 4th enhancement has such a small effect now that it isn't worth slotting it. The exception is some but not all Invention Origin enhancements that have multiple enhancements and set bonuses built in. Again, have a read about them.

The most important thing to do with any build is get used to what your character is capable of, experiment with a few powers and drop the ones you don't like or feel could be better used elsewhere. It is seldom you ever get a character 100% perfect unless you're an Ice Blaster, but thats another story, and not one for the Mastermind boards

    Kheldian Newbie

    [ QUOTE ]

Also and advice on how many forms I should factor into my build (I don't want it to end up too complex).

    [/ QUOTE ]

My two cents worth on forms...

At level 6 you get the squid for both PB and WS. Similarly, at level 20, they both get the Lobster of Love (Dwarf)

By the time you've reached 6, you'll be desperate to get squid form and for both PB's and WS's it is identical. You'll spend a large part of your early career in squid form.

At level 20 you'll do two things. First you'll pick up Dwarf form, then you'll cry because you've now got about 47 slots to fill when you reach 22 and SO's.

At 22, I recommend using a veteran respec and dropping the squid unless you really really love it. At the very least you'll want to respec and keep all three forms but use the respec to sell your DO's and shuffle your slots around.

There's a little twist to respeccing a Kheldian that not everyone knows straight out, and that is that you can add respecced slots to Dwarf and Squid powers from level 1. Apparently this is WAI, which is very very useful.

Either way, the best advice, apart from the level 22 respec I can give has already been given above, and that is pick powers because they've got a cool name. You WILL respec sooner as a priority with a Kheldian than with any other AT.

Hope this helps, and enjoy your Kheldian.
  18. [ QUOTE ]

This is a respec for my 50th lvl MM, so the order of powers isn't all that important.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Have you never had the opportunity to laugh hilariously when a level 50 exemps then realises their level 50 respec means they have no travel power (or other important power) until much later levels.

Even for a level 50 respec, my advice would be to pay attention to the order you pick powers as if you were levelling normally. The only thing you can get away with is those powers that you later respec out of and don't need to fill gaps, sort of thing. I know what I mean, anyway.
  19. My two cents worth as a fellow Bots 'n' Bubbles MM.

I like Repair combined with Aid Other, take it. It's a huge heal and adds endurance. I tend to save it for the Prot Bots and the Assault Bot, but it keeps them going better than Aid Other. Slot it three recharge.

I also have assault, manouvers and tactics. They work nicely together, with manouvers supplimenting your bubbles so much that your bots will rarely die, even the babies.

Slot Equip as 2 recharge and an end reducer. Slot Upgrade with three recharge and an end rec and you'll have all six bots upgraded and equipped as fast as you can equip them as the extra recharge means Upgrade recharges about as fast as equip.

Dispersion Bubble needs two end reducers. It's a hog.

Take PFF as early as you can, learn not to worry about leaving your bots without your leadership toggles and supremacy, if they're bubbled up they can survive a hardish fight, but PFF will save your debt and keep the good fight going.

I regret not taking Recall Friend so far and keep thinking how I can fit it into my build. Your Bots are of very little brain and they get stuck. It's usually about halfway through your boss fight that you realise a Prot Bot and your Assault Bot are halfway back down the warehouse stuck on stairs or chasing a runaway. Recall Friend saves time and saves lives, or at least repair bills.

My advice is based entirely on SO's, as Crossfire's. I am not well versed in IO's as I am too busy selling everything for the Phat Lewt.
  20. There is actually a German area of the Forum if you scroll down, I am sure that there are plenty of players posting there. At least I would hope there were plenty of German players posting there!
  21. However if you take the DM route, you won't need all the powers. Replace Confront/taunt/whatever-it's-called with Air Superiority and you'll rock!
  22. I would drop all those summoning powers and get your rather excellent Dark Blast/Gloom etc.

It is still April 1st isn't it?

    Robots/?

    [ QUOTE ]
oh god nevermind I just saw the other post xD I'm such a noob

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, I am going to answer anyway...

I have been around the block with my own Bots, not all the way to 50, but getting closer all the time.

I personally prefer /Force Fields rather than traps. There's no heal and the only buff you get from FF is defence and some status protection. Not all the powers are useful (repulsion bomb sticks out most, and a close second would be repulsion field) but slap on some fully slotted bubbles on your bots and they become an almost unstoppable force.

The problem with traps is that the powers tend to be static and it requires you to draw the enemies onto the traps themselves (not all - I know!), the triage beacon is a classic example of this, you need to heal your bots and they run away following fleeing bad guys, aggro more enemies and are too far away from a slow recharging power for it to be of any use.

A lot of people use traps very well, but with MM pets there is always a degree of randomness in their behaviour - count the posts mentioning pets running off on the boards - and I believe that Force Fields work regardless of behaviour of pets whereas traps don't. Not always but enough to fail when you need them the most. Careful planning is needed in the use of some traps whereas FF's just get put on and are working regardless.

If you're just looking to make a MM that is uncommon combined with Robots, then try trick arrow or poison, you don't see too many of those combinations, FF and traps are far and away the most common Robots secondaries.

Anyway, that's my opinion. Tried both, prefer Force Fields and really believe they work well with robots, especially after your Protectors slap a FF on there too - I seldom even lose a Drone these days and don't need to rely on anything other than Repair for healing my pets.
  24. Ok, my two cents worth...

    DM/Inv.

Great solo or on a team. Very versatile scrapper with a tad of control and a couple of heals.

Dark Melee - gives a great early attack chain with the first three attacks.
Has -acc debuff in every attack.
    Negative damage, not often resisted.
A self heal that also damages the bad guys a little.
    An Endurance regen AoE.
Touch of Fear - the best non-damaging attack ever and useful in both PvE and PvP.
A nice looking if somewhat slow tentacle attack, you can't have enough tentacle attacks.
A lovely little AoE acc/dam buff

    On the downside...

Shadow Maul is slow to animate.
    The self-heal isn't spectacular.
    It's endurance heavy.

Invulnerability - gives good all round defence/resistance
Has a great self-heal in Dull Pain that will save your back side more times than Jesus
Has an incredible last tier power the name of which escapes me that is akin to God Mode for a couple of minutes.
AoE accuracy buff that can act like a sort of little aggro magnet that doesn't make any difference solo but can be helpful in teams.

    On the downside...

    Fairly endurance heavy

The glowy thing. I mean, what's all that about then? The toggle effects are glowy sparkles that look very pretty but if your graphics aren't up to spec can cause lag. I know, it made my scrapper difficult to play on teams before upgrading, especially as my connection from New Zealand isn't always fantastic.

    No Psi or Toxic defence.

Go with the fitness pool, a travel power of choice that involves flying and the Dark Mastery Epic Power Pool for a blast and a hold and even more tentacle loving and you're well on your way to a cracking scrapper.
