Quote:Thank you for updating this.Hi again, Virtue! We're still moving along quite nicely and are happily accepting applications for new members! We've got lots of rp going on and plans for even more in the future. You can check out our fiction section here. We've also added a second team night to the calendar since Wednesdays have been so popular. Our Friday night teaming will be a bit different than the nights we run on Wednesdays. We're hoping to form smaller teams on Fridays so that our members have a better chance to get to know one another. You can check out the details here.
As always, if you have questions, feel free to contact an officer in-game! @Andy, @T-Pill, and @Victor I.
Happy gaming!
I have several characters for you. -
Quote:Many posters have stated their victory over this mission with various powersets. Hell, an Earth/FF controller pulled it off. A Rad/Rad defender pulled it off. I did it with a Pistol/Kinetic Corruptor! But this is bowling where the player is depending on powerset given a lopsided ball and asked to knock down one pin while blindfolded.
Or given a ball that takes up the entire lane and cant possibly miss.
Ive never said this was impossible, I said success or failure is determined at character creation, not at the time of accepting the mission.
Allright let me edit this.
Its not success or failure thats determined at character creation, its if this mission is done with a lopsided bowling ball with a blindfold or a bowling ball with target acquisition. Its difficulty, thats determined when you make your character.
So with one you need a ton of practice and still might never get it, and the other you just throw it widly in something resembling the direction of the baddies and they all die...
How is this balanced?
It's not a matter of what you're using, it's a matter of how you're using it. That's it. End of story, no matter what you want to believe.
If you know what you're doing, you can handle it. -

Quote:Ah, I see. Well I wouldn't call that a crash, just the endurance usage involved with activating it.It fires off every time it recycles, with hasten and a bunch of global recharge it fires off quite a lot, and it's a fairly substantial end hit each time (10 end). I've had rage crash/hasten crash/active defense recycles that all lined up and it gets pretty ugly.

Quote:The system used for coloring power is entirely different from the system(s) used to create and implement animations. Wanna know how I know that? In the old I16 beta threads there was a thread discussing the mechanics of Light and Dark power color options. Color is different from animation. The reason coloring powers was such a daunting task had to do with alpha values and transparency, plus the revamp it took to all the game's core files in order to allow that level of change, all lumped on top of changing the way powers called for execution of their visual effects.remember when people thought coloring powers was easy? yeah.
when you assume something is easy and you don't work with that kind of engine...you're already setting yourself up for failure
The animations we have now have been in place since the launch of CoH and the launch of CoV, with the exception of certain powersets such as Dual Pistols, Kin Melee and the like. I know how animation works, and believe me, you can animate in a number of 3D applications and export them into a number of engines so long as you have the right codec.
If you already have all these animations that are native to your engine/game, why on earth would it be MORE difficult to adjust their animation times and apply them to new powers?
The short answer is, it wouldn't. Crafting entirely new animations, however, requires more time to complete; this is why the new animations we have now feel like such a rush job. Two new animations in Mind Control? You can't tell me that's a mark of completion.
The only way your rebuttal would make any sense is if there were separate colors that existed before I16. Since there were not, and powers called upon a specific graphic file when using the particle generators associated with their respective sets, you'd be incorrect in relating custom power colors to custom power animations in the way you chose.
EDIT: You can try telling me there were custom colors in place before they were implemented, such as Luminary's Blue Energy Melee, or the Legacy Chain's White Energy Blasts. Again, these were entirely separate powers that used data files entirely separate from the player-accessible versions of Energy Melee and Energy Blast. -

Quote:I understand that, and that's pretty fair. I can do both, so I do both. That's because a lot of us can either talk at you or fight, doing both at the same time results in a terrible job at both ;D
Allow me to specify:
I'd rather RP during/between battles in a mission or converse with others in an open zone than sit in a VG/SG base for 4+ hours and not exercise my character whatsoever.
/e walllean needs a break, guys. -

Quote:Prove it.rehashing old animations for every blast set would not have taken less time and work.
Remember when Flares from Fire Blast used to be the overhand 'praise Jesus' animation? They changed that to the same animation used in Charged Bolts from Electric Blast. Also consider that the old Flares animation is the same animation used for Sonic Siphon/Fulcrum Shift. Energy Torrent and Spectral Wounds share the same animation. Hell, every animation in this game is almost invariably used on another power save for the ranged weaponry sets. At some point there will be a crossroads between them that would allow them to be ported to other powers.
A chunk of the current animations share the same run time as other animations, and could easily be interchanged. No new animations would need creating, tweaking, fine-tuning and reviewing; they would just need to change the speed at which they fire off and possibly iron out any deficiencies caused by said speed change. You'd effectively be eliminating the creation/fine-tuning processes involved in totally new animations and only needing to work on lining them up with the cast times of the power they're going to be applied to.
Throw whatever game jargon you want at me; I have a degree that backs up the last paragraph and I've done work almost exactly like that in the Unreal Engine. Sure, this game doesn't run on that specific engine but from my past experience it's not too terribly different. -
Quote:Expect a G-invite from @Insane V; no better way to welcome than to offer you RP and gaming fun. (That means I RP and play the game to my fullest ability! A lot of times those two are mutually exclusive.)Thanks everyone! A couple names I recognize and several new peeps as well.
Arcs added to checklist. And yeah, the RPers had already begun retreating to bases the last time I played. The D was turning into mostly just a place to hookup or posture. I still thought it had potential for meeting new people, but we'll see if I maintain that optimism. ^_^
I'm @Antecedent so feel free to add me. As a dad o' two, I can't guarantee a stable gaming schedule but I'm doing my best to get on semi-regularly. -

The Other Hero game did it. That was a big mistake. Now they're charging out the butt for all their costumes in the (Letter Redacted)-Store in hopes they can keep revenue coming in. If you've ever gone to that site and/or played that game, you'll know that 40% of the costumes available require money to use.
No lifetime sub for me. Despite having 4 years of playtime under my belt, I'd gladly keep giving my monthly $15 to NC/Paragon and keep them gainfully employed than to pay a lump sum and stop supporting them as a company. -
Quote:My Dark/Dark/Soul Brute is a god of ST damage. While he only has two 'big' hitters in Midnight Grasp and Siphon Life, I get quite a lot of use out of combining the DoT's in Gloom, Midnight Grasp and Shadowmaul. This isnt about what slots we are using/going to use but about what type of character could make the most powerful incarnate.
I have taken several characters into the first mission of the incarnate arc and I have to say my Ill/Rad (perma RA, Hasten, PA, etc) just pwned everyone else's time in that mission. I thought my brutes/scrappers blew through the mission until I ran it on the troller. Just for fun I aggroed as many of the Shadows as I could and he destroyed them in seconds.
Let me just say it was an interesting surprise. Anyone else have a tale of their future incarnate self?
Now, there's a power in the first Incarnate mission that basically adds 321 damage to every tick of damage you do. I think it's called Core Paragon Resonance or something similar. Coupling that with all the ticks of damage put out by my favorite series off attacks, I could usually melt the echoes in that mission in about 6 seconds flat.
Glorious, I tell you. -
Quote:Someone in Beta threads (hell, maybe it was you Sam) suggested that Mind Control's Levitate get a new animation: A slight upturn of the head.Speaking of which, I feel Psi Blast was a huge missed opportunity. I'd have LOVED to see animations for that powerset that just had your character do NOTHING but glow at the head. You know what I mean, right? You stand in place, focus your mind and people around you drop dead. No need for arm flailing or pointing or yelling. You kill people WITH YOUR MIND. I can't imagine that would take more development time than the absurd new animation that most of Psi Blast got. HOLY HELL is that one bad!
The thought gave me goosebumps. Personally, I love the one-handed Psionic Dart animation and wish it was applied to more powers, such as Mind Probe, Telekinetic Thrust, and Subdue. -

Question: is it JUST our toon, or do we have to have them doing something wintery? Because I can post 3 right now :3

Quote:Yeah I know man, you really need to team up to take on network problems. It still can't possibly explain why you didn't seek help on it. Or use actual tactics, as has been the basic issue with your argument.
The mission is hard. Yes. it's supposed to be.
And? If it's hard, get help or don't do it. You're the one who equated asking for help or seeking information on tactics here with powerleveling and cheating through the game. Not me. Patronizing? Yeah. okay.
You're just going to have to team. It's not that difficult to find a team mate even on off hours, on small servers. Hell I was on at 1 this morning (pacific) on protector and there were task forces going on still. So... really.
Team, or tactics, your call. But don't complain if you cannot bring yourself to do either.
