Amusingly enough, it's possible to bring up the chat window while in base editor mode by hitting [enter] or whatever key you use to startchat. Wonder why it only works there ... ?

  5. The Market interface works as if 'someone' went to HR, or whomever, and said, "Get me someone to do ecommerce," and left. And whomever/HR had no idea what ecommerce was, and googled it, and then threw out a job query based on their search, which had little to no relationship to what 'someone' wanted, and probably included keywords like AJAX and MMO. (I've experienced this many times in looking for a job; whomever writes the job descriptions is far out of touch with what is really wanted or even available to ask for (ten years of AJAX experience, really?!))

So it's fairly pretty up front, and nothing works like users expect it to.

I'm throwing in my thoughts here on what should be changed.

    - Pagination: needs to operate sensically, as on a blog, or on the forums. Example: << 5 10 11 12 13 14 15 20 >>

    - back button, or 'return to shopping': I don't care how you label it, but it should be smart enough to take the shopper back to the last page they were on, not just the last category they were in.

    - shopping history: it needs to exist. Either by removing the 'buy' button from items already purchased, by removing those items from the listing altogether, or (simplest) linking to a list of the exact items. That last is a seriously slap-dash way of handling the issue, but it's a sight better than the gaping void right now.

    - search: great, it exists. It's touchy, it doesn't often return coherent results, and it apparently ONLY searches keywords which aren't visible to the shopper. It should be searching item title, item description, item category, and those invisible keywords.

    - categorization: this is one of my personal Big Deals. It's great that you don't want to be constantly adding new cats to the side; this is a relief. You've got good categories that cover just about everything anyway. So why do I have to drill all the way down in a category to see any items at all? If I click 'powers', I should be able to see ALL the powers, sets and temp and vanity, available to me for purchase. Only if I then /choose/ to click a smaller sub-category should they then be divided. If I want to take a look at all the individual costume pieces in the Market, I should be able to do that. I shouldn't /have/ to drill all the way down to 'belts', then go back up and then down to 'shoulders', etc. This is egregiously bad in categories which have a small population to begin with, like Powers. Usually after about two clicks, a shopper's gonna think there's nothing in that category anyway, and move on.

Like Arcanaville and others have pointed out, Every Single One of these issues (with the exception of the 'back' button) can be simply alleviated with the appropriate query to the database(s), formatted in a coherent way. The current interface renders 90% of the useful shoppers' queries inaccessible.

And as cool as it is to have the market available in-game, I honestly think you'll get an increase of users, as well as much greater flexibility, putting the Market fully online. Let us access it via a website. Once you've tweaked it out there, THEN hack it for whatever browser window the game uses.

Build to best specs first, then modify as needed for programs that suck. This acts like it was built during the height of the browser wars.

That's odd; I did a search and didn't find it. Oh well. All the same, once I get a better chance to look over the maps and schedules, I may pick a courtyard or something and a time and post it anyway, just as a really casual thing. It's not like there aren't dozens of little chair spaces around the hotels.

Elsewise, I'll see whom I can find running the MMO track and try to get some facts about why we got 'shafted', and what we can do about it for next year. Maybe if the PAX schedule favors us again, we can get some actual Paragon Studios reps out.

    Dragon*con 2011

Due to some kind of unforeseen and bizarre circumstance (I blame Nemesis), there is NO CoH panel this year in the MMO track. At least not that I could find.

What part of the conspace can we take over and when in order to get together and shout each other down about hel0rz, pvp, the new f2p format, and anything else we beat to death on the forums every year?
  8. Maybe if I'm memorable enough, the devs will send someone just to see what all the fuss is about? XP

Srsly, at this point, with having their own con and all, I'm surprised Paragon Studios couldn't see their way to sending even one of the new folk they've got. Sure, we'd love to have BaBs (can you IMAGINE introducing him to, say, the Dawn costume contest?) or Castle or someone whose name we recognise, but anyone armed with info and swag (just a little swag, okay) would be lovely.

I /still/ want Paragon to make the tshirt artist shirts available for everyone, not just send a few to the winner!

  10. I think what we're seeing with the articles' bias is a combination of 'lack of knowledge' (a reporter writing about a subject of which they have no first-hand knowledge and precious little second-hand knowledge) and the higher-ups having their fingers in the pie. I've seen what happens to articles when the bosses get their hands in, and it can completely alter the first draft of an article to something the reporter may not be proud to own. I'm very unpleased with the articles, but I'm not entirely sure it's the reporter's fault.

Either way, Myers completely failed the point of the game.

  15. You might wish to note that some of these problems are being caused by giving these powersets to, f'r'ex, minions on Hard or Extreme difficulty. I know that Regen is a pretty soft powerset when used on Standard (two passive regen boosters and the mez protect), but on Hard or Extreme it becomes a PITA. Same to Trick Arrow -- the powers it grants to higher diff customs make it much more powerful than it is on Standard diff.

I'm starting to think that the problem is less with what powersets are used (except Ninjitsu) and more with what difficulty they're being used at.
  16. I'm building a challenging arc featuring the Praetorians, and as I was adding the final bosses, I discovered that Anti-Matter and his minions are nowhere in the Architect. I triplechecked the unlocks -- and I've unlocked everything -- I triplechecked every critter dropdown I could find.

Am I missing something, or did the Devs overlook that group?

I only read Pohsyb's posts (linked from teh Dev Digest page), and no, i'm not reading through 220 pages, so this may or may not have been asked already.
    [/Disclaimer]

So, they're allowing XP and Inf. Rewards for mobs killed in custom missions? Apparently, the idea of PL'ing must not matter to the Devs anymore.

I can see it now: not only will someone rez the "Defeat Dreck" mission AND the Werewolf farms from way back when . Now we won't even need bridges to do it... it'll be plenty fast just to SK the lowbie yourself, and

I guarantee someone will combine the two concepts, and take it even further:

    1. Create a huge, flat, wide open map.
    2. Create a custom minion with no attacks, an HP debuff, vulnerability to all damage types (both Def and Res), and then make them rez like freakshow.
    3. Commence cleaning up.

We'll have fire blasters one-shotting huge mobs (put loads of spawn points in, very close together) with a single shot of Fireball, meaning they can run it from level 2 on... just creating a new mission each time they outlevel one of the old ones... and they won't need to be reset either, since they can just be quit and restarted, or just finished and restarted. Also, they can bring at least one friend along who might not have a low-level AoE attack, SK them, and PL them while they're at it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

There is exactly one part of that which has not been stated as impossible.

We canNOT make our own maps.
We canNOT set the spawn points on maps, preexisting or otherwise.
We canNOT assign (as far as I know) single specific powers to a critter.
We canNOT (as far as I know) assign buffs or debuffs to a critter.

Cleaning up? Oh, yes. We can do that.

  20. You have heard now the story of how the Great Progenitors left over the sea, giving to their numerous children gifts to be cherished and help them in times of need. So, too, in that tale lies the truth of Defender's gift to her children, in whose blood flows such power that but little is needed to strengthen them.

This is the story of Blaster's gift, and how it was changed. As you know, Blaster gave to his children the ability to call upon his mighty power when their own strength was near expended and they walked near to death. And some of Blaster's children were content with this gift, for they loved to dance along this fine line, daring death to claim them. But many others were far less happy, seeing another side of Blaster's gift to them -- that they should defy their own natures, and far from revelling in the strength of their skills, sowing destruction among their foes, they must creep along in caution, never daring to draw much attention to themselves.

Often and often did Blaster's children gather to bemoan this gift their forefather left them, desperately desirous of some change, and they petitioned Statesman long and loudly, but their calls went unheeded. At last, one heedless young Child of Blaster, Fire by name, desperate in her frustration, told her siblings, "I will seek if there many be another we can direct our calls to. I will bring back a new patron or I will bring back change, or I will not return." And she set off into the unknown.

Long Fire roamed, through the pit that lies nigh to Atlas Park, past the forest within which many dread foes lurked, through islands and mystic valleys. She scoured the depths of the steel canyons and the heights of the strange lands left behind by Kin and Darkity's epic Chase, petitioning many strange beings to aid her and her siblings in their plight. But though some heeded her, none could help, and she wandered on.

Many and many a time in her travels did Fire make use of the gift her forefather had left her, and though often did it save her, as often did she lie facedown, overwhelmed by many foes. Still she persevered, until at last, after much adventure, she came across a strange device. Of brass did it seem to be made, and much twined about itself, and seemed marked like an hourglass. Ever burdened with curiosity, she activated the device, and stepped through the golden portal it created.

A strange, floating isle appeared before her, wrought of stone and crowned with waterfalls, and strange folk moved therein, neither friend nor foe. Among the strangers of this land she sought anew, and learnt that this was an isle out of time, and its folk controlled the fabric of time itself. They showed her many wonderous things, passing her back and forth through time and space, and she grew excited, for surely here would be found the solution to the troubles she and her siblings faced.

Accordingly, through time she travelled, back and back, so far that she felt all her power leave her and all her skills fade from her mind, until she found that moment which she sought -- the moment where the Progenitors blessed their children before departing forever over the sea. Desperate, at the last of her strength, she gasped her plight to Blaster himself, pleading. Much puzzled was Blaster at her revelations, and he bade her show him.

So she did. And when she had fallen, all her prayers were answered, for Defender raised her to her feet, and Blaster granted her wish. "From henceforth," he said, "when you return to your own time, all my children shall be blessed with a new gift. No longer will I aid only those in sore need, for Statesman's curse has rendered my blood thin and weak, unable to carry the reserves of power you need. Instead, I shall strengthen my power within you at all times, so that you may defeat your foes before they overwhelm you. Also, I shall grant you this boon, by the goodness of my sisters Defender and Controller -- though your foes may be powerful, no power they carry shall ever be so strong as to render you completely incapable. Though they may be but the least of your skills, yet always shall you be able to wield them."

  23. Martavius_ has said this, but I'll repeat for truth:

The LJ CoX FAQ has NOTHING to do with Lighthouse's request for a FAQ. We started that, all on our own, a month before he asked for that. The fact that he found what we had done and posted a link to it here is all on him, and none of us (that I know of) asked him to do that, pointed him to it, or suggested he use it as a replacement for what he'd originally asked for.

    [ QUOTE ]

Lighthouse posting on the 23rd that the CoH LJ community is hosting and providing the answers. Sounds a whole like he decided to give you all the job, building off what you had already.

    [/ QUOTE ]
This is [censored]. We're not hosting the FAQ Lighthouse asked for. We're not providing the answers Lighthouse asked for. We're not doing the job Lighthouse asked the forums to do.

We're building an LJ-based FAQ, for the folks that come, and came, and continue to show up at the LJ CoX communities, on our own cognizance and our own knowledge.

So, rather than whinging about LJ, either GET ONE and whinge there as you assume it is for, or spend your time building a forums-based FAQ, for the folks that come, and came, and continue to show up at the CoX forums, on your own cognizance and your own knowledge.

Sorry if I go off on a bender here but why the heck LiveJournal?

At least with ParagonWiki or somewhere on this site, those of us who have been answering people's questions in our spare time and aren't a LiveJournal member could help out instead of having to be "in" with the CoH/CoV LiveJournal community to help out with this FAQ.

    [/ QUOTE ]

What 'in'? I'm not aware that anonymous posts are turned off at the moment, so anyone can come by and add their information to the ongrowing pile. If they are banned right now, well  information such as this can't be in too many places, and not everyone knows about the official forums, ParagonWiki, or RedTomax's site. Not to mention, a number of the things that came up are things that previously could only be found out by finding this forum, registering an account, and asking the question (possibly including hoping not to be piled on by people tired of hearing the same question over and over).

Information wants to be free. What's your beef with LiveJournal?
