Quote:Not deletion, just a namechange and maybe a move to another server for those three. And while we could play them, yes, we could not play them as heroes, which will now be available in a couple of weeks to months. With the coming of the 'grey area,' and the way villainy is oft relegated to arachnos affiliation, I'll be letting some villains go neutralish, play on some task forces they couldn't before. That and get some new badges...but I certainly won't be re-making any into 'new' archetypes. Out of curiosity, what would necessitate deletion of a character to change AT's? If you wish to play brutes/corruptors, such has been possible for quite some time.
Actually, a change to a Brute works abit better for the character concept and it would be fun to run through Preatoria with my namesake. -
Wait for Going Rogue and try out a Brute instead.
-
Is anyone else planning to make any character changes when Going Rogue goes live? I'll go first (and get ready to watch Silas faint
):
Myrmydon: Tanker to Brute
Lady Mandrake: Defender to Corruptor
Radial Splendor: Defender to Corruptor -
Yes, tell me why my computers refuse to download the new Mids.
-
I would have to check the label first, but I want to try that.

Just post whatever plans you had and we'll take care of the rest.

Giving the powers as an option to obtain to newer players isn't going to hurt anyone or ruin the game for the people that have them.

Quote:Nethergoat's response along with this one was more of what I was hoping to see instead the attacking, however, I'll take any criticism, contructive or not.I'll admit that I'm in the same boat. During last year I went through the last 6 months of Post Secondary School. Heck, if I really think of it I should have stopped subscribing for the entire time I went to school. That was over 2 years of subscription that NCsoft got from me while I was going to school.
I wish I knew who used the Outlaw Josey Wales quote in their neg rep hit. They may not possess enough character to actually sign their insult, but it was an enjoyable one. -

For the record, I ALREADY HAVE up to the 69-month mark, I just think it would be a good idea to let the new players have a chance to at least get the costumes, powers, and such so that they can use them on the off-chance that we see CoH II (or some such) and this game winds up being no longer supported. I would rather see everyone in the game have fun with these powers now than have them be a reward for service. Your mileage may vary (And it does, judging by the rep hits I'm getting from this thread.

Quote:Heh, I never have gotten the hang of this new site. Its funny, I used to watch that every year (Thanksgiving, I believe) as a kid and you would think I would have remembered it. I better check my library and watch it again sometime soon. There already is a link. Now you're REALLY showing your age...blindness.
-
Quote:I know I'm likely showing my age here, but toss in a link to that song (or whatever it is) so that we can hear it to really get the effect.Where, exactly, is the compromise there? #2 negates #1.
The Veteran Rewards system is equally fair to everyone. The system was explained clearly before it started. If you want a particular reward, play the game and look forward to it. Failing to do so will get you labelled as a Plantar Wart aka Veruca Salt singing "I want it NOW!":
Notice any similarities between the requests for having the vet rewards outside the program and this song? Good. Class dismissed. -
Ok, how about a compromise.
1) The Vet reward badges stay as a reward for every three months of paid subsciption, just like now.
2) The powers, costumes and such from the rewards opened up as obtainable options for the rest of the playerbase. -

Quote:Yes, as a 69-month vet, that's kind of what I'm proposing. The Devs have already set a couople of precedents for this, the latest one being that Issue 17 will allow people access to the VEATs/EATs at levle 20 instead of 50. I would be all for bumping up people to the current vet reward range every anniversary for free instead of using the in-game store.Lets see, I've just got my 60 month reward. That works out around $900 ($15 a month for 60 months) in money, and thousands of hours of play time. And you want someone who hasn't supported the game or has only supported the game for 18 months to push their way in front of others for a mere $20?
In the grand universe of stupid ideas, this is the pinnacle of stupid ideas.
The Veteran Reward system is a loyalty program. Loyalty programs do not succeed if you allow people to queue-jump.
What you are saying is that you signed up with a Master Card loyalty reward system (to give an example) that offered 1% rebate on purchases, yet you want them to give you $1,000 because you only spent $100 so far. Give me a break. -
Quote:I don't have to *cheat* at anything as I'm already up to the Genuine badge, I just thought it would be good for the game for the newer players (that far outnumber all of us old-timers, in case you missed it) to actually have a chance to use what we tend to take for granted.
- As was suggested before, check the Eleventy-Billion other times this dead horse has been drug out.
- VRs are indeed, rewards for people who have actually put in the time. Not for people who just want it Nao!
- But the REAL PURPOSE of VRs, is a system of carrots every 3 months to entice the playerbase to stay subscribed.
- VRs keep us from quitting... ("I have VR x to look forward to in a few months!")
- VRs keep us from taking a break from subscribing. ("If I take a break, I will delay the time to getting VR x.")
- Enticements, . . . Rewards . . . Not gamebreaking rewards... But attractive ones.
- Buying them ahead of time, or cherry-picking just the ones you want, breaks the purpose the devs have for putting VRs in the game.
- EVERYONE is a veteran. EVERYONE will get exactly one more VR in the next 3 months. . . at the same chronological point that everyone else in the game got that reward, or the same point everyone else will get it.
- Most importantly, VRs are the ONLY perfectly fair reward in the game. You can't cheat or powerlevel, or manipulate, or buy VRs. (I can expand on this more if you need.)
- You are trying to cheat on the only perfectly fair rewards in the game. Stop it.
To be honest, if you're subscribed just to get a vet reward every three months, then I really don't know what to tell you. -
Quote:Yes, Aett, I have played continuously since June 04. Kali likes to take breaks, not me.Only if we assume that he/she has played continuously since then. The dates here on the board tell you very little.
I know of several people here on the boards that have recently come back, but their join date still displays as being in 2004, and they've been gone for several years since then. -
Quote:Honestly, I think the vet reward system was only put in place as part of the limp along philosophy of Cryptic back when they were ready to let this game die out so they could make the Marvel MMO (which didn't pan out)...if you can just buy them there's no point having them as 'veteran rewards', you might as well just put them in the NC Store at 14.95 each or whatever.
For all of the vets that will inevitably whine about the idea, here's an option for you. Start a brand new account and see what that's like after years of having the rewards.
While I wasn't thinking of getting them individually, I could still go for that. -
Quote:I would say the potential of getting a good portion of the playerbase to buy the option would be a very good reason. In fact, more income for the Devs quaility of life and maintaining the game for all of us to play would be the absolute best reasons to do it. I would reopen my second account this very minute (for server space issuesConvincing to you (or anyone with a partisan view) is not the same standard as objectively fair. I personally have never seen any reason good enough to make the change. We cancel each other out, where does that leave us?
As it stands, everyone is equal. A pay-to system makes people with the cash to blow better. That should be clearly and obviously unfair to anyone who looks.
When someone chose to start playing isn't a relevant fact in this discussion.) if I could have all of my vet rewards on it and I bet there are plenty or people for whom that would be the case.
Honestly, the option to optain the vet rewards with a brand new account would be alot more fair than the current system, with only the oldtimers having all of the benefits for years.
