  3. ninja/time was the first idea i had when time came out. I tmakes sense and because of the heals, to hit debuffs and the slows and defense, it fits perfectly with the ninjas. They've always been known as squishies and this set really pairs up with them power wise and theme wise. your pbaoe debuff that gives you -to hit debuffs works really well since they are melee characters. Definatley fun

Yes but both people have tons of forum credit so others might think that they have more of an opinion than me who only has a small amount. Even though i've been playing for a few years, I just never really posted much until this year

Why is it that you care? I don't have gamer friends. Like literally. I have plenty of other kinds of friends. art friends, school friends, work friends...but no one I can speak to about games. Not a one and let me tell you i've been playing games since I was 6. I really don't appreciate you telling people to stop reading this post. I had an idea and decided to talk about it with those willing to read and respond. It's just rude and unneeded. I would love to talk to you about anything you'd like to talk about on here that's game related. This is just a simple post about a defender primary I enjoy very much and get excited to see in the game. I just wish the best for it.

Lots of great ideas and choices for improvements. Probably wouldn't get them all, but at least we laid out a good map for them to follow in improvements if chosen. I understand what you're talking about psylenz. My endurance isnt what it should be with stamina and endurance mods. I am down more than most usually. very intensive on the endurance...but I also blast a lot. A lot lot. That's half the fun as a sonic. I get like 400 damage with shout as a defender on a team. With just shout after some -resistance build up chain attacks, but still! awesome!!! Oh I want to play her...

I do love the set very much and I to have a level 50 sonic/sonic defender. (my first toon and first to 50)

Like i said, I see that every time a new defender set is put into place for us, the sets are much more rounded and able to handle more situations.

Just some of the older sets need a little tweaking just to help balance them. I am currently only defending sonic defender specifically because they're my favorites, but the "older" sets could use a little make over.
I mean even if they fixed liquefy I would be happy.
    The recharge is outlandish.

All the suggestions that dr. harmony made seem like good places to start. Even if they all dont happen...at least one or two.

p.s. I have two sonic defenders and I have never taken sonic repulsion for more than 10 min. in my whole time of playing. Honestly...I don't really know anyone that uses this ability. The sonic set is very endurance hungry and even though I run all three leadership abilites and another toggle or two, I seriously can't see someone running that toggle as well as all the others. (even with no leaderships, or combat jumping, or epic powers)

by over powered I was speaking in the sense that the set is known to have and to have had more than necessary for the job. There has to be some kind of order, you know? All i'm trying to say is that the set is definatley on the lower end. It's a great set, but wish it was known for being more in the middle.

I wasn't trying to put down the power set at all. I have a ff/rad I love, bu tI know playing her I can give almost 40% to defense and with my sonic I give about 55% resistance to others. Just want it to be like 60-65.

The main point being I don't want to whine because

"*Cries* We have so many great and fun sets to play."

like dr harmony said, even if they enhanced the debuff i'd be happy. Just give a dog a bone. It's a great set and would like others to experience it, but won't if they know theres other hybrid sets that are much safer.

I don't want to be that person. I am super grateful for the leaps and bounds that city of heroes has made. This year has been a crazy amount of material that has really helped the game change. The powers seem to be getting better and better, but now with our edition of powers (time manipulation and thermal radiation) I feel like the sonic defender abilities seem even more jipped than ever. We all know that other sets are overpowered quite q bit. One of the overpowered defender sets for instance, force field, are over powered in terms of numbers between the two and honestly we can compare them to most sets in the defender arena and see that it is under powered. (except for maybe trick arrow which needs some loving ,but I digress)
I was just wondering if maybe, if it's at all possible...maybe we can raise the numbers a wee bit? Each set is known for having there own form of protection:self and team. Why don't we raise the numbers of sonic barrier/haven from a base of 20% to 25% or raise sonic dispersion from a base of 15% to 20%. even just having sonic dispersion raised, that would help the set for being known as THE resistance defender. With thermal numbers coming close to the same protection, but with heals and a rez....we're at even more risk of not having sonic defenders. We are already a rare sight and I see this wonderful archetype play style not be enjoyed by others. We all know +defense numbers can be lower than resistance so having the numbers become higher for resistance will make it more balanced. It's just a great set and would love to see it played more
  12. Cold/Ice-like negate said, cold/ice is safe. solo friendly and definitely great for teams. Av's and Elite bosses turn into butter with the debuffs and make soloing easier for you. the double dosage of slow really makes this character help with incoming attacks and good for pvp. Since the numbers haven't changed for ice storm and blizzard, we do great damage.Focuses more on single target. Bosses are way easier solo.

Dark/Ice- Super versatile player. Your control with this toon just goes out the window. You get the best rez in the game (aoe) that works as an amazing debuff/soft control when soloing or not. The fears and holds and immobilize will really help you get noticed when combined with your other debuffs. You get an aoe heal as well as the -to hit to lots of people. The one thing that the dark/ has over cold/ is the ability to affect many foes. the pet is always nice too.

Cold/Dark- probably safer than cold/ice just because the debuffs and extra immobilizes. You get a small self heal here which would help because any self heal for the healer is a great idea. debuffs galore as well. A really fun play style that made it to be my fifth level fifty. Since you get a pretty good sized bebuff abilites that hit multiple people, this set leaves you an active player to constantly cast your debuffs attack on all. Both abilities really cover the battlefield so people will be able to see your work best with this one.

Kin/Sonic-Probably the most damaging defender that you can make. I love mine so much. Super great for soloing and for teaming. Everyone loves sb (even if they can only use it outside of battles) and you get a self heal. Endurance is not an issue later on either. Falcum shift is your prized power that really combines well with sonics constant resisitance debuffs that help stack at chance to reach the damage cap. A character that requires constant playing though. Not one you can walk away to go to the restroom or make a quick sandwhich. When you stop people notice...so this could qualify for what you may want. /sonic is really active and great for soloing defenders and shines brightest in your later levels. Also can get quasi permanent travel powers from this set so you can have more slots to use on other powers. Hasten is definatley recommended for this set....if not most. With kinetics it's all about the speed.

Yes fury sorry. I don't play brutes. I have tanks but haven't mad the switch yet. I need to try scrapper too.

    Best Buff's?

Burning chick is right. Force field is very over powered currently. You can give everyone higher defense then most tanks sets have normally. The numbers probably wont be downgraded for quite some time....currently I'd say for buffs alone- Forcefield 1st then kinetics 2nd and Empathy 3rd.

Time manipulation seems to be taking one of the main spots whenever we get it though. Oh how interesting.
  15. Dark is a very good choice. Very versatile and adds a good amount of control and classic defender powers not to mention the best rez in the game. ( which works amazingly well as a debuff whenever not needed for rezzing)

Cold i salso great for teams and solo as well. The debuffs really show there colors when facing avs. Turns them into high hp'd butter

I agree with greyhame on storm. It is a wonderful set, but not good for a newbie and takes some solo time to really understand angles and powers. A truly wonderful set once mastered and can really change the tide of battle, but them powers must be used wisely or else people will wind up hating you and you won't know why.

Bubbles is very boring and leaves you a lot of time to use your secondaries. The bubbles once slotted out, even with just io's gives everyone on your team higher defense than most scrappers and tanks have normally. A great secondary, but also has a wee bit of a learning curve with the knockback.

    /sonic is a great secondary b.t.w.
  16. traps/sonic

    or

    cold/sonic.

    Both really fun builds!

was not my fastest trip...considering it was my main and first toon is probably why. It is super fun too and really easy to make a story up.

You really do help everyone do lots of damage. Tanks feel like scrappers and scrappers feel like brutes. Brutes just ooze at the thought of sonic defenders and rage. I noticed the melee characters noticed my abilities more than others.
  19. That would be fun to see a whole bunch of stormies together
  20. It probably isn't true. I don't crunch numbers,as stated above, but my friend who does sounded pretty confident. Didn't mean to put out false information...but trying to point out a stronger defender. Guess I should have left it to just the sonic/sonic that most people have heard of
    my bad
  21. It definatley depends on the power sets. It's been said.. (i dont know personally because I dont care to crunch numbers)...that a sonic/sonic defender does more damage over time than a corrupter. If it's something like a kin i would say to make corrupter....but for other things....like lets say a traps/ice defender will do more damage over time than a ice/traps corrupter when soloing because of the debuffs precentages alone.

Either way it's up to you....I personally love defenders, but I have wanted to get scorpion shield so bad for my sonic/sonic making her move verstile
  22. I was thinking of maybe making a ice/kinetics. The combined minus damage would help make up for the damage that seeps through...but I dont know if it would help more than /ice. Ice patch is very amazing and allows aid self to get off 90% of the time.

dark would be good for the self heal and -acc woul dhelp with your own personal defense because it lowers there chance to hit. Good control. NO status protection. Great for teams, but solo wont be as good as the other two. Still a great choice just for howling twilight alone.

Traps has a good defense buff as well as status protection. trip mine and hasten is always fun especially with howl effecting the baddies before. Debuffs like crazy here which will make you useful for teams and solo a lot easier.

storm is great for control over minions and hurricane adds to your own personal defense because it lowers there chance to hit. Good control. no status protection. storm/sonic is also known as being not only a good team player but also pvp build.

traps and storm sonic are rodes less traveled. most /sonic is....but anyone of these combinations would work really well.

Sonic/sonicis also really fun too. :P I know not your first choice,, but this si a rode less traveled and a fun trip along the way. great for teams and pretty good for solo. Whenever you get pets of any kind, this becomes super amazing because you get to use sonic dispertion which is an additional -30% (resistance debuff)

    Defender Advice

Yeah for what you want to accomplish traps/ice/dark seems to be the best most reliable character. You can get Medicine to heal yourself and others as well. With your high defense it'll be easy to get it off. Ice will help with that too.

Also, like stated before /fire would be good as well whenever it is available.
