Quote:Well, that strikes me as a "Your mileage may vary..." moment.to be fair, Statesman is mostly written as an emotionless, authoritarian stuffed shirt
Were he to be written more sympathetically then I'm sure the playerbase would warm to the character but he mostly just comes across as a twit as opposed to a leader
To me, I get the stuffed shirt part, but his "emotionless" personality seems to be more restraint on his part. He's lived a long time, has protected people from increasingly bizarre situations and is all too aware of the struggle he has to contend with, possibly for the rest of his life.
Not to mention the fact that his wife's death was a painful reminder of the fact, barring some convoluted murder, he will outlive his entire family.
Stoicism is usually the mortal's response to the realization of immortality.
For his coming across as a twit, once again, I'm reminded of a teenager's response to when their father goes "What's wrong?" and while there's a million and one things running through the teen's head, the only response is a glumly mumbled "Nuthin'" before the youngster trots off to his friends to go "Man! My dad is such a twit!" -
Quote:I know. As I stated before, players seem to refuse to differentiate between the character and its creator. It relates to Statesman being the chosen avatar for Jack Emmert, and his choice in Enhancement Diversification, among other unpopular game changes that came down the line.
Jack Emmert and the Playerbase
Something about that seems insultingly childish on our part. -

I generally look at the Women In Refrigerators as something to be considered when the character has, thus far, served as nothing BUT a victim.
Which, oddly, is what Miss Liberty has been for this game. There was a lot of talk of her being a great hero, but not much evidence of the fact in-game. She was never a presence. She was the silent, invisible hand guiding Freedom Corps and Longbow (though the latter has been dominated by her daughter's brash control), but you only get to hear about that through plaques and perhaps a few snippets of dialogue.
Otherwise, she gets her face smashed in by an Ouroboros arc and now she gets killed in the Who Will Die arc. She's been little more than a victim for the game's story to progress.
It's not an emotional moment for the playerbase because we never got a real chance to know her, hence this discussion. Her death made it glaringly obvious that she's been treated as nothing more than a victim in-game.
It could be argued that it wasn't supposed to be an emotional moment for us, though. It could just be that it's supposed to be an emotional moment for Statesman and Ms. Liberty. I wonder if the developers are looking into how Megan's going to handle this. -
Quote:This is exactly who I don't want to be the victim of Who Will Die, for many of the same reasons. Also, I don't understand all of the Statesman hate that permeates the playerbase. Usually it sounds like the typical "Screw you, Father/Authority Figure!" response that usually comes out of know-it-alls, and other times it's just nimrods who refuse to segregate character from creator.I *really* don't want Sister Psyche to die ... because I *really* want to see her in a Brain Cells Grudge Match, Woman(o)-a-Woman(o), against Mother Mayhem. That battle would be so totally awesome!
Statesman I WANT TO KILL PERSONALLY.
I'm not only hoping it'll be Statesman, but actively gunning for him to BITE IT ... so as to leave a Power Vacuum within Primal Earth that can only be filled by (you guessed it), TENS OF THOUSANDS of Players! I'm banking on the Primal Well of the Furies breaking with the patterns seen in the alternate dimensions (pick one Uber-hero/villain and power them exclusively) so as to take the "shotgun approach" of creating a Weenie Horde of pint-sized Incarnates who collectively, and through diversity can be far stronger and more survivable than the Single Point Of Failure choice(s) that the Well has been making in other dimensions (Tyrant, Reichsman, etc.).
I'm foreseeing a future in which Galaxy City becomes a new home for future Praetorians emigrating from their dimension with Tyrant repenting his sins and, surprise-surprise, becoming a NEW Statesman...
Wouldn't that be a gas?
If you're scratching your head and wondering how THAT could be a good idea, you'd be in the same boat as I am. -
My uncle who served in Vietnam died earlier this year. After a long battle with alcoholism, trying to find his place in life and depression, he was finally killed by lymphatic cancer (of all the things... I was expecting liver failure, but the doctors said his liver was perfectly fine...).
So, Uncle Eric, may you finally have the peace you desired.
And to my fellow veterans out there, stay strong. -

Mace Mastery Costume Changes - Characters obtaining the mace mastery epic pool power should obtain the default mace in all of their costumes after selecting the power.
- This should no longer cause the inability to tailor a costume after picking this power.
- Wrong. Still not working.

Man! That sucks! I used to go on Paragon Wiki ALL THE TIME for lore info, mission info, build research... Whatever are we going to do now!?
-
So many weeks full of win, one of them had to be a down note at some point.
Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, mind you! It allows time for the Devs' awesome glands to recharge... -

I was hoping for a different costume fix.
I've got characters who can't edit costumes and it cost them influence and tokens to find that out the hard way. I was hoping the Arachnos Mace costume bug was getting treated, but, sadly, that was not the case. -
Here's a simple answer for the OP:
Variety is the spice of life. -
I'll give it a shot, Kyo. I'll bring Eisenherz.

As my mother would say:
"Yee! Hee-hee-hee-heeeeeeeee!" -
Well, for a quick idea of how a Melee/Support class would work, watch the Tsoo Blue Ink Men in action. They're Energy Melee/Kinetics.

Quote:If you haven't run into the Malta Group by the time you meet Lord Recluse, you've been diligent in avoiding them. As for his patrons, they don't do much to explain the group, leaving their knowledge about them ambiguous. And again, Roy Cooling's knowledge of them is quite suspect at the moment.Obviously not because Roy Cooling, Lord Recluse, and Recluse's patrons are aware of Malta.
Not to mention the background information that's been out for as long as I remember (and quoted earlier) Implies that multiple government agencies are aware of Malta as well as veteren heroes being aware of them and reporting on their abilities. That's actually an even scarier thought, that multiple world government's and agencies (and heroes) are aware of Malta's existance and agenda, yet can't prove they exist or take any real offence against them because they're just that good.
What I do know is, it's in the script so that's what happens.
Assuming they are a common threat to him, and they're high-end threats, it's a little unsettling that he's pitting a group of low-rank heroes against them. If he were worth his salt, he would be calling in the big guns to put down the Malta Group threat... Excuse me, to use his words, the "Malta" threat. Even with his inexplicable knowledge of the situation, he fails to mention them by their appropriate title. -
If I am in-game and available to help, I will provide my assistance, Kultie. I have plenty of Redsiders who could help.

Quote:If that's the case, then we need to stop using the level range as the excuse for storyline inconsistencies as well.At some point people have to divorce level from the story and just enjoy a decent arc.
It also doesn't excuse my argument in the slightest. The organizations and groups need to act in manners that make sense for their "modus operandi."
The Malta Group's method of operation is secrecy and deceit when their "jack-booted thugs" cannot achieve the intended goals. The deniable assets move in when the secrecy and deceit fail.
Indigo, Crimson, Shadow Spider, Viridian and Arbiter Daos know the term for the enigmatic group. The rest of the world has next to no idea about the weird, dark-blue dressed operatives that seem bent on making life a living Hell for anybody not progressing the cause of Capitalism. -
Quote:They're the minority. They're Mulder and Scully (only more bloodthirsty). They have been dealing with this conspiracy for years and have made it their mission to eliminate the threat, even if nobody else believes them. They're content with not revealing the conspiracy and just killing the bastards responsible. So Crimson and Viridian can be a part of an organization that Malta is influencing, and still be aware of them, but that gets thrown out the window for some reason for Roy?
That doesn't make sense.
They enlist your help with an ambiguous task. Help somebody. There were scary people there with weaponry designed to deal with meta humans. Interesting. They ask if you'd like to help them deal with their "friends" from here on out.
So far, the only really "public" thing the Malta Group has done is send a gigantic robot to assault heroes in broad daylight and another to tear down the War Walls. In both instances, it still leaves the public scratching their heads and wondering what the Hell just happened.
Their troops in the streets? Still deniable assets. -
Quote:He's not supposed to. He works for one of the organizations the Malta Group is influencing. Crimson and Indigo work for one of the organizations the Malta Group is influencing. Heck, they even have pokes and prods into Arachnos.I like how you're saying that there's only so much that the characters should know, then ignore the fact that the devs decide how much it is that the characters know. Roy Cooling is at the top of the FBSA, and it was decided that a top member of the group that oversees the super powered individuals in one of the most powerful countries in the world would know a little about a group that's said to leave "Fingerprints staining the headlines with regularity". Not to mention he works for a government who most definitly has a few Paranoid analysts who are aware of their "Machinations". I'd be more suprised if he -didn't- know who they were.
They are The Conspiracy. Their existence is supposed to be ambiguous, frightening and deniable.
