I am not appreciating the Trial Grind. It bore repeating.
Apparently so do the trials. At least, if we want to play and improve our level 50 characters, that's what we have available to us.
Whee.
So, I'm throwing this out there...
I hope that the future provides us alternative methods to unlocking the Incarnate slots than just repeating the same content over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and (this goes on for a while) and over and over and over and over and over and... You get the idea.
On top of that, it's still not a guarantee that you're going to win. Suffice it to say, people are still losing at these things, and they're stressful enough without the realization that there are people on the team who can't take direction.
It leaves me disillusioned and uninspired.
Yes, I know more trials are on the way. I know I'll be getting some variety to my grinding. While I look forward to attempting the new challenge, that's as far as my despair is alleviated.
I'll make do as best I can, in the meantime. It's the only option available to me. But I'm still going to voice my discontent.
They're not BAD tasks. They're great, challenging stuff. It just gets frustrating when you have to repeat them over and over and-I'll stop there. I like the storyline behind them, I like the setting, and I like the abilities they eventually unlock... But I'm getting nauseous grinding these things out to slowly crawl my way up the new ranks. -
You had to feed the hamsters, didn't you?
Let me guess, they were playing as if they were cooperative the first time, then the moment your backs were turned, they disengaged the hamster wheels and made a break for the door.
I've seen it a million times... -
No, when it's something like this, it's obviously something messing with our hamsters.
Get that Freedom Weasel away from them!
Or at least give them better guns... -
I want kitten and panda shoulder items for males!
-
Jeez, couldn't he just throw him in a pit of broken glass and salt? Much more effective in my opinion...
Or slather him in honey and bury him to his neck in a red ant hill.
Or cut his belly open, pull out his intestine, tie it to a tree and have ravenous dogs chase him around it.
Because, you know, these horrible things are warranted when somebody makes a Shakespeare gaff. It's entirely justified.
Or he could, you know, move on and resume his hating the rest of the writing in the game. -
YOU FOOL!
Now Hamidon is going to merge with Praetorian Hamidon to become the Ultra Mega Hamidon in order to combat us!
We're doomed! The multiverse is doomed! You've doomed us all! -
Well, the typical implementation of an AOE buff affects the caster as well. However, if it's a targeted AOE buff, then there's a likelihood of winding up still in the radius of the buff.
I haven't seen any instance yet of such things bearing much discrimination on whether or not the person casting is a recipient.
Of course, thus far, the only current powers with any relation to this concept are Transfusion and Fulcrum Shift. Now, I know they're not exactly what's being described, but, as I just said, they're a related concept and they don't make any consideration for whether or not you're the caster. If you're in the radius, they buff you.
I'm just saying we'll have to wait and see how this is implemented.
I'm also not saying that it's likely we'll see Controllers, Masterminds, Corrupters and Defenders who can buff themselves. As depressing as it is, I can imagine discrimination being implemented for this, likely for "balance issues." -

Issues are also in accordance with major story and game behavior shifts. This is just an augmentation to Issue 20, to put in aspects that they couldn't put in when they released the Issue (due to time constraints, issues with the Trial, whatever...).

Because a writer comes along, wants to write one particular character, then freaks out when he's told "He's dead."
So, he goes about creating a convoluted story about how the character came back to life so he can get to writing the story he wanted to wright.
There's so little control in the comic book industry... So little dedication to a progressing narrative.
It's apparently more profitable to keep rehashing Superman or Wolverine's origin and adventures than to show them guiding the next generation of heroes or getting anything actually accomplished. -
Quote:Cool, I actually never knew about that distinction. A lot of times, it's used interchangeably with ultimate. You mean the "ultimate" capabilities. Penultimate means the next to last.
Regardless of the fact, even the Tier 3's are difficult to acquire with the system as-is. The lottery system is... Suffice it to say, it's aggravating. There are players who are STILL complaining that they have yet to get a Very Rare table, and these are folks who complete the Trials regularly.
And, yes, there are still folks who don't know how to do a Trial properly, so failing them is still a possibility.
Now that's just plain rude. -
-
Yeah, I try to do that, River. I try to.
Good thing that they're apparently NOT altering the Endurance Costs of the Buffs (as my post was later edited to point a link to). -
So, if I'm getting the overall reaction, a lot of folks are happy that this casual-friendly game is essentially telling the folks who would like to continue to play casually will never have the penultimate capabilities advertised. Casual players won't get the money required by these things. Casual players won't be hitting both Incarnate Trials (soon to be all three) every day, multiple times a day, to get the Empyrean Merits and different Randomly Rolled Reward Tables.
Frankly, I'm getting to the point where playing these Incarnate Trials over and over and over and over and over and over again is far beyond ludicrous. I keep losing my patience with them, especially when I get punted from the server because I decided to check my Incarnate Trees to see what salvage I need for my next recipe.
I'm hoping that the future has more options available to players to unlock these things (namely, would it really be so wrong to have Shard recipes made for them?), because the current "Lottery" system is hair-rippingly aggravating. -
For the most part, I'm liking what there is.
I'm just hoping they don't do with the "Buff Auras" as they did with the Mastermind Upgrades. The Mastermind Upgrades went from an endurance cost with a period of time between selecting each target so as to make the cost manageable to a one-shot endurance cost that practically WIPES YOU OUT.
The endurance costs of a lot of those buffs are pretty heavy as-is, and a buffer usually winds up having to reboost the team while in the middle of a dangerous situation. It would be bad to get wiped out of energy to get everybody back up to snuff just to lose the ability to continue fighting and supporting the team.
EDIT
Ah.
According to this post http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showp...3&postcount=41 , all those solo controllers and defenders still won't be getting a benefit.
Damn. -
I got crashed out five times and that was my limit.
As a friend said: Good idea, incorrect hardware for the implementation. -

*sigh*
I was just kidding when I brought it up, Sooner. I didn't mean for it to turn into a big deal. I was just poking fun in JS because you're the one who usually puts up the birthday threads. I even put in aemoticon in the sentence!
Still, thank you very much.
*hugs*
And thanks to all of you well-wishers.
It was a surreal day for me.
