Quote:In before obnoxious non PvP'er starts trashing the community for being trash talking jerks, by being a trash talking jerk. Owait, too slow.Who said I was joking? Have you met some of the obnoxious {pancakes} that shoot their foul little mouths off in PvP zones? Those little creeps should be sterilized in the most painful way possible to keep them from reproducing.
As for the OP, not a terrible suggestion really. If everything was moved into the arena's I'd have a lot more fun than sitting in the zones with 18 vs. 6 odds most of the time, but really at this point development resources are best placed elsewhere. The system works for now, its far from perfect but it works. The small community that exists isn't really going anywhere and for the most part people who don't pvp won't pvp no matter what changes are brought in. -
The devs have the right idea honestly. PvP isn't really worth it, we are a very small minority when it comes to the community and what we have? It works. Well enough.
I said (or echoed someone) during the last freedom league that I've had fun post i13 in all the leagues, ladders, tournaments, etc. Was it the same amount of fun when I PvP'ed back on infinity, with half a dozen SG's dedicated to zones + all the random solo people along with Kickball and things like that? Maybe not, but it was still entertaining to me to get some team arena matches going.
The dev team put time and effort into trying to attract a broad playerbase to PvP, it didn't work. Not everything is a success, but you work with what you have. Zones are playable, the bugs that exsist aren't for the most part completely crippling to the PvP system, team arena is playable, so while its not perfect (and i5-i12 was far from perfect) it works.
I'd rather see new powersets and new costumes (because playing dressup is amazingly fun) than see development time spent on a small fraction of the playerbase who has likely been here and won't be going anywhere seeing as how the changes that took place for the most part happened what? 2 or 3 years ago. -

With BU that is 1792.87 Damage with *no* procs in real game combat logs against a regen scrapper who didn't take resilence. This is assuming your target had no debuffs. -

With no BU you are looking at 805.28 + 810.07 dmg = 1615.35 damage. Assuming you slot damage procs 2 purples + 2 PvPIO's is another 358 possible damage but you only need one or two to break 1700 points of damage against a scrapper with no res (Again before we factor build up) -
Just wanted to toss this one out there for a tankmage style controller I was looking into making.

I'm still torn with Fire/Dark vs. Plant/Dark but I like the option to stack AoE stuns if I need too.
I've yet to really mess around with soul absorption, but it seems like it'll cover the end costs of the build. I hope at least, definitely looks end heavy. -
Quote:Its funny, horrible, and maybe a little true! I know I've thought it more than a few times myself how fun an Umbral/SS tank would be.Make Luminous Aura and Umbral Aura powersets for brutes/stalkers/scrappers/tankers. Remove dwarf forms and travel powers to bring sets down to 9 total powers.
Make Luminous Blast and Umbral Blast secondary powersets for Blasters and Doms. Remove Nova forms and various other powers to bring set down to 9 total powers.
Remove Kheldian AT from the game. Powersets fixed.
Umbral blast for blasters would be up there too especially if they fixed essence drain a little. A blaster with three pets running around and possibly a double mire Umbral/Dark Manip would just be awesome.
I wouldn't go so far as actually getting rid of khelds though, combining the sets together is fun after all. -
1. Photon seekers changed to a clone of Northern lights lore pet (with reduced dmg values and HP adjustment of course) Give them a 240 down 90 up recharge you summon two and any extra summon gets rid of the originals.
2. Solar Flare KB to KU. Seriously.
3. Lightform gains *some* psi resistance.
4. Pulsar standardized with Gravitic Emanation. -
Quote:I'd imagine it has a lot to do with being in the mood to throw together a build for something. Personally Ninjitstu stalkers never turn out quite how I want them, you want ranged defense, acc, recharge, damage procs HP AND KB protection. Its a lot to build for and tough to get a decent middle ground. That being said here is one with Shadowmeld to hopefully help out with the lower ranged defense.Hey, Selethia what i would like to know, is why no one replied to your earlier post about your SJ/EA scr, cause im interested in making a build like that for pvp. Quote:That was poor wording on my part, a brute wouldn't be useless. No AT is truely useless (even stalkers now!) everyone has their place and everyone brings something to the table. What I meant to say is the brute isn't *needed* the original post I was replying too was suggesting that without someone to soak aggro/alpha's a team of controllers would end up getting squashed. At level 50 or level 5 that isn't so much the the case in this particular example, going from some direct experience on my part with all controller teams. All ATs can 1 AT, do things in a way that makes other ATs not actually needed, useful? Useful to only a point? No point making things sound like the Controller AT is an odd exceptional case. Sure it's easier to get by, by being less refined in a 1AT team with certain ATs.

Yeah that makes good sense, I was looking at Cloaking device and trying to remember what it did. All I could remember was it has a smaller stealth radius I think? Maybe? I might be wrong. If that is what it does w/o the movement penalty that makes good sense to pick it up.

Here was a quick one thrown together. I haven't used the chance for hold procs on fireblast for a while. They are good, but I usually team up and leave the mez to someone else.
And don't take fly. There has never been a good flying blaster. You may end up dying less (which becomes very unlikely the second a TA or someone with web nades enters the zone, of which there are plenty) but you'll also end up with signifcantly fewer kills than you would have on the ground. Basically the moderate to low boost in survivablity is largely trumped by the huge lack of mobility. -
If you want to go with Dual Pistols, pick pain as your secondary and go for a support toon. That way you don't have to really bother much with your primary.
Outside of that.
Dark/Psn
Sonic - Fire - Rad / Therm
X/ Rad could work as well though If I was going rad, I'd go for a defender.
Sonic - Fire - Rad - Dark / Cold
Build for 1606 HP, 41 KB protection. Then as much recharge / acc as possible while slotting damage procs in your attacks. -
Quote:Walk like a duck, quack like a duck. Call it a duck. Next time I'll try to sugar coat it more. And trash-talking people back is the solution? All you're doing is reaffirming preconceptions by calling people idiots. You're giving more people more reason to not PvP. And if your argument is that you don't need people like that - and I'm not saying it is, but IF it is - then there's your answer. Obviously, you can't be welcoming to everyone, and there are jerks on all sides of the fence. That said, you CANNOT discount people's experiences and you cannot dismiss their opinion. Heckling people for having that opinion helps no-one, you least of all.
Again, like I said. I'm not dicounting peoples experiences. I know all too well the toxic nature of broadcast PvP. However, citing it as a significant reason to avoid PvP when it is arguably the one thing we the players have direct control over (unlike say the way powers work, AT's functions, IO's influence builds, etc) and then refusing to ignore the control we are given via /gignore is just silly (which sounds nicer than idiotic I suppose).
It'd be like some one prank calling you, and you *still* sitting on the phone listening to it saying "Awww shucks, this fella is really mean and won't let me alone." Unlike a prank call? When you /gignore, the person can't call you back. -
Quote:Forget comparing Inferno to ROA.Hrmm, I wish I was math inclined...I wonder if you throw in Ageless after firing a nuke and using Burnout would it even come close to the numbers of Arch/MM...probably not...come to think of it, it probably would end up hindering you more than helping considering the goal is constant pure damage.
Here is what you pretty much have to look at.
Fireball : 84.46
Firebreath : 109.8
Rain of Fire : 125 over 15 seconds.
319.26
Fistfull of arrows : 56.93
Explosive Arrow: 56.31
Rain of Arrows : 225 with a 4 second cast.
338.24
They are close, and as someone said its all about delivery. Fire has a fast punch in Fireball/Breath but it takes much longer for RoF to do its thing. Archery has the large burst you can do while LOS'ing mobs to greatly reduce the alpha you take.
Inferno is something to use when you have some blues and want to make an extra spawns worth of aggro mostly disappear quickly.
As much as I liked ROA nuking things, I ended up playing my fire blaster much more because Blaze is just that awesome. With archery you have to be first into the spawn if you want RoA to do much other than finish off some LT's and damage some bosses. On fast teams with equally fast players I found my only option was to pretty much ditch out on finishing off the last spawns bosses to get ahead and have the upwards of 5-6 seconds in animation time getting Aim/BU/ROA to cast before anyone else got there, where on my fire blaster I could help a lot with bosses thanks to the awesomeness that comes from having blaze up every 3 ish seconds and still be at the next spawn with everything else hitting Fireball/Breath to melt the weaker foes. -
Quote:I'm not even sure how this is directed at me. Are you sure you have the right person. Keep in mind, I started Tempty over Fates in a league finals because she had shown up the entire season before that and I thought because of that she deserved a spot in the final matches even though she wasn't our strongest emp. P.S. We lost.Right, and how many professional player teams show up in T-Ball diamonds and not just beat the kids horribly, but at the same time, have a few of the pro players berate and belittle them with insults. Very sporting. Way to foster future ball players.
As to everyone else with an opinion (since its so easy to lump people together, i.e. pvp community are caustic meanies) Look at it from my side of things. I've taken time to explains the ins and outs to anyone who has a PvP related questions. I regularly help with builds on the PvP forums, I've sat down with people and teams, trying to help newer players get into PvP. (Hell in our last test league, which failed, but still, one of our Emp's had never 8 v 8'ed or PvP'ed on any serious level, but we gave them a shot anyway and tried to work with them to make them a stronger player). I'm not a saint, I don't pretend to be. But I come into a thread asking "Why you don't PvP" and see a good many posts saying "I don't because of the community, I don't because competitve people are jerks, I don't because all PvP'ers are assh0les" guess what? You're trash talking the community. The very thing that is keeping you out of PvP. *That* is why I think posters who stated that are idots. -
I feel like the ultimate blaster is a Perma eclipse, perma Mire, 3 extracted essence running warshade. IF you really want a blaster though, Fire/MM or Arch/MM.

Quote:No, its not. Its like playing a game of baseball and ignoring all the heckling fans and the jeers of the opposing team. (Which hey, if you've ever seen or played sports, you know happens all too often.) Another reason your analogy doesn't work is if you *do* follow RV or AC there is at most 4-5 people out of say 20-30 people in zone doing the talking. Not everyone does it, but everyone is quick to remember the negatives as well as the most vocal parties.Your suggestion to /ignore or even worse, turn off the chat channels, is like joining a pickup basketball game while wearing earmuffs. If a PvP community ever wants to grow, regardless of the brokenness of COH's system, restraint of the trash talk and adoption of more a sportsmanly demeanor are both essential.
Most times I play in RV I don't have broadcast turned on, because I know outside of putting together a team nothing positive comes out it. People are out there looking to get a rise out of someone who is sucker enough to fall for a troll. Someone who comes onto the board to say "I don't pvp because of poor sportmanship" but neglects to add "That I actively choose to listen to from a vocal minority" to me is trying to troll in a more subtle way. -
[QUOTE=Aura_Familia;4203846]Quote:You're only furthering my point. You could chose to drive around said comments the exact same way anyone with half a brain could completely ignore the trash that gets spilled in AC or Zone broadcast. Yet here you are.I don't PvP because there is no one left to PVP with.
As for anyone who whines "I don't PvP because people trash talk in broadcast" You are a complete idiot.
heh, this is soooooo the way to disprove their point, amiright?
There are plenty of reasons to take issue with pvp mechanics and everything like that. Crying that a big bad person in a video game hurt your feelings by saying mean things about you and rather than taking the easy road of /gignore /petition /removing chat tab someone decides to come onto the forums and whine/complain about it is someone who is just looking to whine and complain. -
This is what I took from the first 2 or 3 pages of the thread.
Quote:Go to a PvP zone. Sit there for an hour and listen to the conversation. The venom you get there trumps anythign else you will find in the game, and I do not enjoy being a part of it.Quote:I think the main reason PvP never took off in this game was because how caustic the PvP community was at one point in time. They may still be that way for all I know, but I somehow doubt it. I think all the jerks left around i13 and the crazy changes. No one likes to lose and have their noses rubbed in it.
Sore winners are FAR worse than sore losers imo. I may try RV again at some point. I kinda had fun tonight, even though I was on a scrapper made for pve.Quote:Why I don't pvp:
2. The absolute adolescent trash talking is annoying after 5 minutes
3. In reference to above: the homophobic and racists remarks are disgusting and seen as funny and acceptable - I don't hang around racist or homophobes irl why would I do it in my leisure time?
the pvp community is rude and the lack of rewards make pvp not worthwhile.Quote:Because I don't appreciate the hostility that it creates...
If I wanted to play along side a bunch of hot-headed, self-centered jerks, then I'd be playing that other MMO...
(Not calling all PvPers that, mind you, but it does seem to attract a lot of those type of folks)
One reason I play this game is because it has a relatively kind, laid back, and helpful player base.. But once you step foot into a PvP zone that all goes down the toilet. -
I don't PvP because there is no one left to PVP with.
As for anyone who whines "I don't PvP because people trash talk in broadcast" You are a complete idiot. Nothing good happens in broadcast and it takes all of two seconds to turn the tab off when you enter a zone. The game has a global ignore function and I can assure you the population is small enough you won't get near your global ignore limits.
That said, there are plenty of reasons not to PvP at the moment. Low population of hardcore PvP'ers (I.E. They have the best geared builds out there) PvE not working like PvP, so even if you do have a great build you need to make another expensive build to be competitive.
Learning curve is incredibly sharp despite the dumbing down of the system. Its a team sport that most players come into solo for whatever reason.
A good many builds being vastly inferior to other builds.
And mostly HD and TS goes out of its way to make a newer player feel completely powerless when trying to survive or going on the defensive. -
I prefer a little more dramatic fashion to things.

Quote:Sadly what holds true at 50, still holds just as true at level 5 for 8 controllers. At that point the brute is arguably more useless.Obviously eight controllers at level 50 would be a force to be reckoned with. Eight controllers at level 5.... meh.
Alpha's at that level aren't anywhere near the threat they are later and if you have something like a cold, ff, sonic, Rad, dark, kin, time, therm you already have massive levels of mitigation as well as heals, buffs, and debuffs. The AoE damage of 8 contained Immobs at that level (maybe 6 or 7 if you have an ill or mind) is enough to melt the mobs with their low HP. And would you believed contained ST attacks do as much as if not more than blaster attacks at that level. -
My personal favorite slotting of AS is 2 Nucs that you toss a few enhancment boosters on. Hecatomb proc, ATO proc, Glad Strike Proc + Glad Strike quad. With musculature alpha you are still pushing 125% + damage enhancment.
Like most stalker builds, travel powers are underslotted.
Whatever your follow up attack is, you should probably toss some damage procs into that. Whether you are going for sharks or ET/TF.
Stalkers for the most part either A. Hunt squishies or B. AS/ Follow up melee toons and hope there are enough people around to finish them off. The few big hits you get you want them proccing as much as possible before you go back back into hide. Most melee with half a brain will see no real threat from a single stalker.
Since you built for acc/rech more than ranged defense I'd suggest picking up burnout for more uptime with Retsu. For incarnate's Pyronic is still the fastest follow up. Ion is for MM's. Destiny you could probably make a case for Barrier, Ageless (to get rid of Retsu crashes) or rebirth. If you team / 2 v 2 or other smaller matches incandesence is pretty much god mode. -
Quote:I'll admit, I snickered. If that's what you think, apparently you've never run a mish with nothing but trollers...
With the right comination its pretty much like entering /g0dm0de if CoH had cheats, with a random combination you are running around with 8 tank mages melting everything in their path.
