It's interesting to me that there is no anti-farming faction in this argument; there is only an anti-AE-farming faction. The most vocal of this faction have stipulated that they don't consider farming bad or inherently exploitative.
I'm hearing no arguments philosophically opposed to farming itself, or the effects that farming has on the game. I'm just hearing a lot of rules lawyering about what is and isn't an exploit, and arguments about whether or not it's ethical to use AE to farm.
Nobody has offered any insight as to why farming should be done through PI portal missions or the Television, but not through AE. And, just to shore up a possible dead-end discussion, "because the Devs said so," isn't an explanation why one is ok, but not the other. It's just an observation that the Devs have targeted only the AE farms, and not PI/TV farms.
Is it because of exploits like Comm Officers and mobs with no ranged attacks? Those exploits have been dealt with. So why the ticket cap, and why the threats of punishment for those who use AE to create farms? In other words, why is AE farming wrong, whilst PI/TV farming is ok?
Here's my theory: the most vocal opposition to AE farming is coming from powerlevelers who suddenly found it difficult to charge lowbies 5-15M per run on their farms, because better farms were free and available to everyone through AE.
My opinion is that either farming is ok, in which case non-exploitative AE farming is ok, or farming isn't ok, in which case the PI farms need to be very aggressively nerfed, and PI farmkins retroactively punished, too.

You can keep repeating it, but it doesn't make it true.
MA has been a fantastic success, and one that's provided a shot in the arm to a game that's going to face some stiff competition.
[/ QUOTE ]
I have to kinda agree with this, although only because the argument is so drastically polarized it needs some middle ground. MA is cool, and for the most part a success. What isn't a success is how things are being handled to correct issues not foreseen, like farming. I mean really, its to the point that the cure is worse than the disease it is for.
Farming was honestly favorable to what has been done to stop it, which is ironically mostly crippling the players interested in creating CC's and story driven arcs in MA more than doing anything to farmers. Really, it was a whole better scene when people were forming groups to farm in AE; rewards were good, the game was fun, and groups were abundant. Overall enthusiasm for the game and entertainment were high. The Devs really should consider that imo, instead of the "this is our game to be played only how we intend" philosophy. At the very least, even failing that, they should seriously reconsider the knee jerk, heavy handed, breaking-the-game-worse-than-what-needed-fixed, reactive nerfing, which is making people wish the MA never had happened at all. My 2 cents.

I like the MA. I think it is fun making missions for it.
I think if people can get off their high-horse about their "rights" to abuse the system, the MA can become the truly great thing that can be.

High Horse ??? You do understand what the phrase means don't you ??
High Horse: an attitude of arrogant superiority; \
You are the damn definition here.

basically he is saying that we should gleefully surrender our free will and our freedom to make our own choices for a game we pay money to play.
needless to say- what a lol. -
happens to me every other mission. alot of the people I team with complain of the same thing. they get invited to the team, then they hang and crash. some get into the mission, others get into completely different instances of the mission... its really quite bothersome. theres even some instances where people dont have the mission show up once they are on team and it is selected. I havent filed any petitions because i'm worn out on trying to interact with cs/devs/andthelot.

the track record of our current "fixes" makes me afraid of what the outcome will be... if it is even addressed at all...

possibly redundant server maintennance, usually requires a small reboot.

same here. cant get into victory. all other servers seem fine.

this is what happens when they fix things that arent broke.

what do you think upping the lvl cap would do to purple enh...

I think the problem is most people want to do the whole arc in one sitting. If they don't have a lot of time, they're going to pick a shorter arc.

this. I dont have alot of time when i'm gaming. thats why I can't do tf's to get the tons of merits i desire for stuff. same goes for tickets. -

We will have to agree to disagree here. I think the comm officers were a massive exploit in that they were not being used as intended and gave at specific levels extreme amounts of xp far and above anything else possible in the game. People knew this and exploited the heck out of it, I can't personally see how it isn't an exploit despite how long it took the devs to deal with it and despite how public it was.
To keep with the analogy its kind of like the last forest ranger that used it forgot to put the gate back the last time they used it and they didn't get around to either fixing the gate or closing it for a few weeks.
[/ QUOTE ]
The devs knew when they put them in MA that Comm officers gave more XP than normal, and still they moved foward. They knew it when they did their own internal testing, and still they moved foward. They were told in closed and in open beta that it would be exploited, and still they moved foward. As far as I'm concerned, and I guarantee I'm not alone in this, if it can go through such extensive testing with full knowledge of the potential exploit and still go live, then it must be working as intended.
To use your analogy, the forest ranger forgot to close the gate despite the fact that he was told repeatedly over several weeks that the gate was open and that he needed to get his [censored] over there and close it. He's got nobdy to blame but himself if the bears got out and raided everybodies picknick baskets.
[/ QUOTE ]
You are not alone on this. If someone used a third party program to change the actual code in the game- THAT would be an exploit. To use things that naturally occur in the game with no manipulation required: WAI.
The heavy handed changes that were made , removal of the comm officers, ticket reward limits and the threats made make me ask... why did they do nothing when they already knew about it? why did everyone let posi make that post without at least attempting to do some sort of damage prevention/control?
this whole thing is a public relations disaster. -
What we as base builders need is a liason.
Someone that can directly answer all of our base related queries. -

lots of questions. where to begin?
Can my brute join my hero sg, access things in the base and earn prestige?
Will heroes be able to trade with vills now?
Will dueling in any city zone be possible?
Will MM bots FINALLY not get hung up on their own drones?

Okay, let me try to understand this logic, please:
<ul type="square">[*]1) CoX exists without the MA system. The players are reasonably happy for 5 years.[*]2) The developers introduce a new MA system on April 8th, which includes its own reward system. The players are still reasonable happy.[*]3) The developers take away (let's be a little extreme here) 75% of the rewards on May 12th, a little over a month after the Issue was released. Many players are upset and some are even thinking about quitting.[/list]
Huh?
So, why does 3) somehow make the game worse off than 1), before the MA system existed at all?
[/ QUOTE ]
You need to check your facts...
CoX has been steadily losing players over the years and with the eminent release of not one but two competitors, which it has never had before, things may go south quickly. At this rate CoX is in real danger, if one of these new guys on the block is a real hit. The population of the game has stabilized recently and might have even gotten a bump with the whole reactivation event that just went through but that wont last if the whole reason people came back is sliced and diced into something else.
I agree that MA was a great idea, but in the execution it felt a bit lacking and a vocal minority threw their weight against these same boards and got what they wanted...an empty AE bldg where they and their friends can go and RP to their hearts content.
Nerfing the system as it was originally set has just begun a process that may not show it's real teeth until mid July after CO comes out and has a thorough workout by the public...If it's good then say bye bye to thousands of players...then whenever DCOL happens, if it's good...stick a fork in CoX as it is, because a MMO with too few players is not really an MMO now is it...
[/ QUOTE ]
no its not, and the sad thing is, getting the people in control, the ones that call the shots, to see this to actually care about what we care about might be a pointless fight in itself.
another thing that bothers me is it "seems" that these people in control are doing what they can to manipulate the media, forums and try to sway popular beliefs with their alt accts. you can see it with the appearance of new faces that astutely challenge, shot down, belittle and basically shred someones post insisting that their way is the right and only way of thinking.
what is truely disturbing about this is all of that energy could be conserved for other things if there was direct, clean, polite and honest communication. -
you deliberately missed my point.
you know what I mean. -
Have you ever had someone take something you like... and then smash it right in front of you?

D) Ignore it and let other mmo's remove their playerbase.
