  1. The guy who tends the lawn in Portal Court must have some dodgy photos of the CEO or something, and here's my reasoning:

Tina Macintyre is sending me on Portal Mission after Portal Mission, and in between every damn one of them I have to run across the lawn to a different building. I thought portal technoilogy was supposed to save on the footwork?

With all that use, the lawn is obviously going to need constant upkeep to repair all the Footstomp damage and biurning sprint trails etc.

Constant upkeep means that Portal Courp's Head Gardener is guaranteed a job for life.

The Gardener must be responsible for Poprtal Corp's appalling Portal schedules, else Macintyre would surely be able to book a block of time for me to make multiple jumps on the same portal.

And why is she standing outside? I thought scientists were normally found actually in their labs overseeing their experiments and whatnot, not standing out in the carpark having conversations with their test subjects.

It would be funny if she was stood there having a cigarette break, and every briefing finished with 'you go in, i'll just finish off this ciggie and I'll be right with you.'

  2. Awesome post, Sam. Spot on in a lot of ways.

My Incarnate feels much more like a God in normal content. In trials, he feels like a grunt.

    Lol snap!

I'll be doing the DA content with my SG-mates. I expect blind 'your team has bern invited to a league' requests from people who assume like GG that anyone in DA is there to raid.

I really hope Pocket D (on Freedom) stays the League rally point. Then I know where to go if I ever do want to trial, and my solo/small group Incarnate zone can stay that, untarnished by iTrialophiles.

It's acyually even less hassle for most padders than this. TFs dont auto-dusband aa long as there's at least 2 members still in it. So after you have started the TF, everyone bar 1 of thr padders can actually completely quit out of it and go do what ever they were doing before. All you need is one person who'll leavr his toon in the TF for the duration of your solo attempt.

This of course means that duoing TFs 'wastes' other people's time only for as long as it takes to form them and start. Recently I've been trioing TFs with my SG-mates, and it's generally taken about five mins tops to find enough padders in my global channels and Help. After that five minutes, everyone who's padded can quit the TF anf carry on. There's precious little 'standing around waiting' for them.

That said, since the padding method exists, the devs should just go one step further and remove all minimum starting reqs from everything in the game, so soloers/duoists/trioists could attempt everything on their own without being forced to team or being at the mercy of the kindness of strangers or bother those strangers when they dont want to be.

Compare that to putting yourself on /hide so nobody will ever be able to send you an invite or tell. How is that going to improve your experience in the game? Again, we're all free to do whatever weirdo things we want, obviously, but barricading your door and cutting your phone line so that nobody can break into your house and change your TV stations... uhhhh, sure. That's a reasonable position, then?
Someone could suggest you follow your own advice to try a new thing by puttingbyourself on hide and soloingbexclusively for a month. It probably wouldn't harm you materially or otherwise, but you might very well simply not have much fun, since you clearly like to team. Good for you.

Some people don't. Advising them to 'try it, you might like it!' is likely to get the same reaction I had from a gf when I suggested we try doing something saucy in an uncomfortable place.

    A perfectly reasonable answer.

The sort of answer that leads me to believe some of you may be displaying signs of Grumpy Gus disorder. You're getting mad about the idea not of someone impinging on your soloing, but about the idea that they might want to. And you're not the only one.

Yeah, absolutely. I completely understand how easy it is to play CoH while distracted or otherwise unsuited for normal team play. By all means solo away in this situation and refuse anyone's sultry advances. That doesn't explain the posters who have been talking about how they use /hide so they never have to worry about anyone defiling their perfect little world.

I never said you should give in to pestering, clearly pestering is a bad policy in general. I take issue with this notion of the sanctity of solitude in a video game.

That's all I'm saying. Not once did I say everyone must always accept every request to team. I was simply disturbed by the vehemence of the anti-teaming sentiment in this thread. And wouldn't you know it, it got worse before it's gotten better.

Yes. Brilliant parody that concisely sums up everything I said. Outstanding work.

Have you ever spoken with someone who seemed to get super defensive all of a sudden and it just made you raise an eyebrow internally?

Another excellent example. The mission is your home, and the person asking to join you is a a burly man wearing only a trench coat. Terrifying stuff.

Did you guys know there's a button you can press to remove someone from a team you're leading if you take exception to their behavior?

My smiley at the end of my post was meantbto convey that I was joking, sorry if it didn't come over clearly. I'm perfectly aware that it's a silly analogy. The guy suggesting I team up anyway even if I don't want to was not joking, though, it looked like to me.

EDITed because i realised you meant theu other guy's response was jerkish, not mine.

    I hope

If you're just taking it easy and soloing while you do something else you could say "I'm taking it easy and soloing while I do something else. Still want to join?" They might.

I almost always invite anyone who asks because if nothing else it's nice to have an audience for my badass spawn shredding.
Yeah, ok, I'll do this if you promise that next time you're in your flat watching TV alone and some random stranger calls at your door and says 'Hey, hi, can i come watch TV with you?" you'll go "Well, sure, come in! But I might change the channel without warning or pause the dvd to go make dinner or speak to my mom on the phone, so you'll have to bear with me if that happens. But yeah, there's my sofa, make yourself at home!"

  10. I have given up writing AE arcs until they fix the asinine profsnity filter. IE intil hell freezes over.

  11. I wS soloing yesterday doing some arcs and I got a tell reading "can i join ur team pls?"

I responded "sorry, I'm soloing right now".
The reply "ur selfish. Let me join u" came back.
I Didn't bother replying to that.

    Soloing is selfish now?

    Lol

    'most players'?

I think I'd go crazy if I just ground radios for the last 10 levels.

And out of idle curiosity, how come you list the ATs in your sig? Wouldn't it be more economic to just say 'one of every AT at 50' or something?

The Trials are now a major feature of the game, and are popular with the devs and the players - they'll remain the core Incarnate content, and more and more of them will be added to the game as the Incarnate storyline unfolds.
Have you got this just permanently available with a ctrl-v?

I'mreally hoping the DA stuff proves popular ebough to steer the devs away from the experiment with WoW-style endge grindimg and back onto what CoH should be about.

  15. Yes to smaller trials, sure. Something like the Marshall Blitz fight in the blueside Sig arcs (great little boss fight imo).

    And while I'm here:

Everything should have a minimum start req of 1.

  16. I must be bugged or something then, because my Incarnate powers dont take 25 mins to recharge on my en/en blaster. I seem to be doing ok in terms of damage. I hardly ever use my nuke, but when I do I always immediately eat some blues. Ithought this was pretty much standard nuke behaviour.

In the BAF, i use Judgement in the first phase, It's recharged by about mudway rhru the NS fight, I can use it at least twice in the mindwashed phase and a few times in the Siege/NS fight. My lore pets last for the whole Mindwashed phase, and I also manage to get off a good few Oncarnate Rebirths too.

Maybe I've got uncommonky good IO recharge set bonuses? I havent put any real tjought into making a trial-focussed build.

I also fibd it pretty easy to avoid any patches, pink or blue, or Maraudes nova fist etc, whenever they hit. Camera pulled back, fly/hover on demand keybind is great for movememt plus def when stopped.

In short, it's news to me that Blasters are worthless in trials.

  17. Great stuff, cheers for the suggestions. I'll deginitely try an ITF, but the DFB is so ludicrously easy-to-access with no wait, fast and easy it's hard to resist. I'm doing the Nemesis stuff from the guy in FF now. I'll try Tina's arcs too, I think I can handle an EB or 2.

RWZ is also on the list.

  18. Hi.

I've been playing nearly 8 years now, maybe more, I've lost count, and I've still only got 2 50s. I fogured I'd make an effort to get a third 50 and I was wondering which content to play through.

Casey Crockett, level 40 Shield/WM Tanker is the toon.

I don't like Malta or KoA. I hate Malta and KoA in fact.

I'll be soloing mostly. I don't mind doing a couple of DFBs to get me thru a fre bars, but I'd like to do some arcs too.

    Any recommendations?

  19. I bought the pack before getting TW too. I saw it was free and so figured I'd try to get it and it worked. I only got TW yesterday after my gf bought me 1320 PPs for Christmas. Tbh, I was a bit disappointed by the weapons. I thought there'd be more 'gimmick' TWs, but there's only really the railyard thing. Lots of swords etc is a bit meh for me.

Haven't thought of a goid concept yet for TW. I hope they bring out more 'weapons' for it, I like my 2 WM toons.

  22. I note there's a Winter Holiday Pack for sale in the paragon market at 400 points. Its info is useless as it just says it comntains a bunch of Witner Holiday themed costume parts, emotes, etc. I'm not going to buy it unless I know what's in it.

    Anyone know?

And while I'm here, it's probably going to happen again. Am i missing something, about how to find out a list of what's in these things?

Can't understand why its info doesn't list eveyrhting. Useless Paragon market UI

EDIT: I just found this thread in Announcements, but it still doesn't list everything.

EDIT #2: and i've put this thread in thwe wrong forum haven't I? Can a mod move it to Player Questions, please?

I know you're only haf-serious, at least I hope you are, lol, but I still feel duty bound to respond that Freedom is in my admittedly limited experience no better or worse than any other server in terms of how 'dumb' (or indeed brainy) the players are.

It's not like many people go do research before they choose a server to start on, looking for the 'Knobhead Server' or anything.

I chose it because it was the first on the list.

Yah, this is why I trio the TFs with my SG-mates, and why they should remove the minimum start reqs from them.
Gettimg padders to start isn't hugely onerous, but QoL would be improved if we didn't have to.
