Theres actually a forumite over on the [Insert rival MMO that cannot be mentioned re: new forum rules] boards whos Avatar and toon concept is one of self replication. It kinda makes me think of both that carnie-baddie on Heroes and the dimensional shift cossie change animation.
Eventually but not as a priority I'd love to see a Mastermind set like this, one based all about self division (and a synergy of powers across your minions), confusion on whom is the original (pvp?, masking the original target?), and the animations that showcase that splitting and dividing (like the DS cossie change).

I was watching the BBC news late last night and they had a feature on this. An industry insider was warning that it will be common in the future for people to be changing their names and Identities to try to escape their 'virtual footprint' that has built up over the years.

Quote:I have to agree, there is something so de rigeur about villainy, the Mastermind archetype and volcano bases.Well, I'm guessing Syndrome's volcanic island base (from The Incredibles) would be high on most geeks' list. I find the parallels to Blowfeld's volcanic island in You Only Live Twice to be beyond coincidence, so I'd probably lump them together.
Leather chair, stroking a cat, trapdoors, "you have failed me for the last time minion!".
Love it.
One of my favourite parodies was (and is) the 'Areyouexpendable.com' site and their recruitment videos for henchmen.
Heheh, genius!. -
Aww gawd, thats gone and torn it hasn't it! - see now because of [MMO related to DC but cannot be mentioned re: new forum rules] they've got to go back into all the art assets and re-do them all, because clearly he's still wearing the old batsuit in it.

You mean if the subject should bizarrely and for no explicit reason mutate to;
'Have you ever heard of, or imagine, CoH being the reason for said legal action or does the inherant pick up 'n' play casual nature of CoH work in it's defence'.
Well, I couldn't possibly comment.- How very Ironic that this clampdown on forum topics (for the good of all) just happens to coincide with the Praetorian expansion. .o>
*smirks* -
I figured as much. *rolls eyes* - oh well, nevermind.

This time for making their games (in this case Lineage II) too addictive. How dare they.
/facepalm.

Just a quick enquiry to say that since i18, despite having 'local' added to my chatspace as a channel, I am singularly unable to quickly right-click select 'local' chat... the option is completely missing.
Is this even known?, I don't want to have to keep clicking the tiny 'local' chat-bar nugget to select the channel all the time.
Its a glaring omission, and i have both looked for a forum post on it and checked in-game the last couple of nights where players say they too are unable to right-click select Local chat as well.
Thanks. -
Thankyou all for the kind welcome back sentiments. I'm looking forward to seeing you all on-duty in the brave new world of Praetoria.
-
I've checked in-game and the Ninja run (martial-arts super booster) is also only from lv 4 - so thats out.

Raising a quesion about things like craftable phaseshift (avoiding mobs) and the consignment house transporter (through clever route wayfinding being about to effectively TP clear across a zone to the AH in that zone, in much the same way PD tp would) as they will give unfair advantages.

Gratz on your filthy wad of cash MYYST_BLAKWIDOW.
I got an NS&I premium bond cheque in the post this morning for £25 ! \o/ ...and in the spirit of the recession, I will say that I've spent it already two days ago on the Going Rogue expansion and Mutant superpackthingymawotsit. -
I believe Ford himself also pushed for his character to be killed in ROTJ. He wanted the final instalment to show the price of freedom sometimes requires the ultimate sacrifice.

You were supposed to forget about T3 with that awful sub-par whiney interpretation of John Connor, that was awful and actually makes SCC tv show look pretty good in retrospect (even though it lost its way it didn't deserve cancellation in my opinion).
The last film was ok-ish, if the next is brilliant I will start to take the franchise seriously again as one with a future. -
Aww l'il Shadowhare, he needs to get himself down the gym if he's serious about this crime-fighting lark. Poor kid looks like he'd snap in a stiff breeze.
My favourite from the world superhero registry is Terrifica;
Quote:Right-on sister! .o> - *sniggersTerrifica patrols New York City's bars, clubs, and streets by night looking for women who have had a little too much to drink and are in danger of being taken advantage of by men.
"Do not be meek enough to believe the myths society has imposed on us to basically control you. " -
Hmm, could be ok i guess, just wondering if it will clash with the old (or new) movie lore.
I thought the McG re-imaginning was supposed to be continuing as a trilogy with the next shot in an apocalyptic London?. -
Hello everyone, Hello Noble Savage.
Forgive me but I have been absent a year and only just resubbed, although i have been lurking & following these 'Art of' threads by David and all of your suggestions.
Whilst I re-read this thread and all of the great suggestions therein, may I ask.. "Is there a timetable for getting some of these implemented ingame?" - I mean, I take it there is and these suite of 'Art of: edition' threads is not the Dev's way of gathering ideas for CoH II.
Is there an Implementation timetable? (I'm not interested in what it is, as I'm sure its all a bit hush-hush ;-) ... just that there is a timetable).
Thanks.
Oh, and:
Quote:Definately /signed, - Its the haphazard and organic way cities grow that makes them believable with all of their imperfections. The random 'x' element of imperfection is what convinces the eye things look real.Originally Posted by SpittingTrashcanThis goes a little beyond buildings, but I've noticed that many of the hero zones have a very austere, planned feel to them: grid road layout, regularly shaped buildings, and so on. It reminds me of the years I spent in Salt Lake City, a city drawn out in a grid on an empty patch of land, a "model city" that was made, not born. Given that much of Paragon was razed to the ground and rebuilt on the ashes, this is more or less appropriate - but it feels distinctly cold to me. I'd love to see some buildings, neighborhoods, even districts that are holdovers from Paragon City's last incarnation, with a more unplanned look to them. A Chinatown would be great, or an old downtown, or a cathedral, or heck, just two streets that don't meet at a right angle.
Edited to add: I mean, you don't want good old Paragon, home of freedom and democracy, to seem less humane than Praetoria.
Quote:Originally Posted by Lord NightbladeI'd love it if you could give each zone a unique architectural flavor. For example, Steel Canyon could have more of an Art Deco look, evocative of the Empire State Building, Chrysler Building, and the like. Founders Falls could (and really should) have more of a colonial look, since it's the oldest part of Paragon (and I'd love to see the Founders tram station redesigned to fit in with the area better). A Boomtown revamp could use more modern glass skyscrapers as the area is rebuilt.
Architectual diversity and (while we are at it) distinctive cultural quarters like a Chinatown, a high-tech centre to Steel Canyon as well as the much-requested Times Square feel for a central area near Positron.

I would love to see (considering the jump in PC spec from 2004-2010) a return of the beta wireframe globe, perhaps revamped in marble & chrome with a slightly higher poly-count.
I would also love to see a re-envisioning of the Atlas plaza layout with key design ideas for player traffic and activity. Also; City Hall with all that blank concrete wall around it (considering the city's history you'd think there would be carved murials on them or some kind of decor). I know requests for a starting zone redux are widespread and i know Dev's consider that re-doing any of the old starting zones is getting limited 'bang-for-your-buck', but seriously, it is needed if CoH is going to remain relevant. Please do something with the all-filler - no-killer warehouse districts in both Atlas and Galaxy.
Unfortunately eye-candy and first impressions do count for new subscribers, and they have come to expect more in the last 5 years enviromentally. Please roll out as much as you can of the quality of Praetoria's design and architectual creativity re: enviromental models & zone-design redux out over CoH/V.
Right then, now to catch up on the next 16 pages... -
Hi Liz, Hi Kallandra.. Thankyou very much for your PMs.
I would love to meet you all again this year, alas fortune didn't smile on me and I have hospital appointments all over the place and an op scheduled soon on a dodgy knee.
I will make sure I have time set aside to make the 7th anniversary player-meet and I'll do my best to do some more of those player-meet badges if necessary (I'm terrible with names! >.< ).
Have a wonderful time!, take photos!, eat, drink, be merry and raise a glass to Paragon for me!.
See you next year Heroes. .o> ...x
Ps: Did you manage to contact Avatea about this European player-meet?. -
Its late, 2:14 am and ML's representitive enters City Hall heading towards the Information desk.
Walking briskly over the famous marble floor with it's seal proclaiming 'Paragon City - Birthplace of Tomorrow' his footsteps echo around the empty chamber. On approach he casts his attention right, towards the display-case that has held his employer's cape, ornate gauntlets, and plain black pigtail ribbons for the year since her retirement. A wry-smile crosses his lips, the case is empty and it's contents replaced with a small note for the curators.
On reaching the familiar polished wooden desk he opens a suitcase and takes out a first edition newspaper hot-off a printing press. The desk-clerk is asleep and City Hall is quiet for now.
"I'll leave this here for their attention in the morning" he thinks to himself.
A slow walk back across the marble floor, he takes in the statues and inclines slightly with deference at each before opening a door and exiting out into the cool night air.
The Atlas Globe makes him pause for a moment as memories stir of a familiar theme-tune. It makes him smile - and then, as quickly as he arrived, he is gone. -
Dear Paragon,
I'd like to thank all of you for the best Introduction to my first MMO I could of possibly hoped for. The EU City of Heroes community is something very special, and It has been a real privilege to have served alongside all of you fighting crime in Paragon City for nigh on five years and to have met some of the most wonderful characters from your Imaginations.
Alas, last night my graphics card decided to give up the ghost after 6 years of avid gamer punishment, and although I had hoped to have said goodbye to all of you in-game - I don't think I'm going to be able to get it fixed to meet the deadline of my lapsing 6-month holiday subscription plan, therefore I think this will be farewell, at least for now.
My plans are to eventually return, (looking forward to 'Going Rogue') but I am devoting considerably more of my free time into a part-time 2-day a week 1 year '3D Studio Max' course that will require some concentration on my behalf, so I think this will probably work out for the best... a nice long break allowing both unseen CoH content and new zones to pile up and simultaneously allowing me to save for a shiny new rig to play it on.
I won't be able to post anymore on the CoH forums after the 3rd of September, but will be on and able to post to the CO ones as I have a lifetime membership in anticipation of my new rig, (albeit a couple of months or so down the line). Anyone will still be able reach me at ML's address; mothers_love@hotmail.co.uk.
I would like to wish Paragon City a bright and prosperous future. Maybe sometime in the future, a City of Heroes will once again need a Mother's Love.. but for now I would just like to say It has been an absolute honour... I am going to miss you all terribly.
Take care of one another.
Kind Regards,
Mother's Love.
(and her representitive outside of Paragon) Simon. -
Fix Hamidon !!!
Tweak it back so its a community event once more and enjoyable. I don't know what the attempt rates are stateside but we used to have Hamidon Raids every week, now the event is so under-used and neglected because it is too hard and not fun.
I would dearly love to see the statistics for server attempts pre and post redux. I suspect they make for poor reading. -
Totally agree, this is why the German Government's policy is naive if it thinks that banning violent video-game titles where you play as the protagonist will do anything.

Quote:There have been quite a few university rampages, a large majority of them in the US, there have also been a few here in Europe. In one of these Incidents a psycho loner had modded Counter-Strike to resemble the layout of his University and used this to 'practise' on.I remember it well. It was REALLY "hilarious" when it turned out the guy that did it had never even played Counter Strike...
His PC was investigated after the shooting and the map discovered and subsequently deleted from servers hosting it. I think this is where a lot of the mythos comes from, clearly there are some very disturbed individuals. -
Quote:Oh i Agree, I'm not trying to justify their viewpoint, I think its misinformed nonsense, or if they do have the facts its naive to think this will do anything.I wouldn't expect a government that is loony enough to believe that a law like this would solve any of their problems to tell the difference between gameplay in Crysis and CoH.
If I were NCSoft, and this law is not just something proposed by some minor faction that has no chance to get it passed, I'd already be looking at relocating my servers to another country. If this has a serious chance of becoming law then it doesn't matter if it fails this time, it will come up again.
I really don't think games like those in NCsoft's portfolio will be affected in any way shape or form. -
This thread remind me of the scene in Star Trek: The Undiscovered Country where the Klingons dine aboard the Enterprise, and everything is going fairly well until biases start creeping in and arguments break out.
As Chancellor Gorkon said (in so many words): "Well, this was nice but clearly we have some way to go."
To the undiscovered land that is the new forums!
