Count me in as another person whose two favorite villains were Scirocco and Ghost Widow. That would be an amazing SSA to play! Also hoping Dr. Aeon and Protean will release the full story of Dream Doctor, soon.
I can't help but think I really missed something, regarding lore as I was completely unfamiliar with Battalion as an enemy. Looks like I'll have to go run around in Ouroboros and pay closer attention to the Rikti missions.
Also loved the different time-travel methods. I was trying to figure out how Epoch from Chrono Trigger would figure in but realize it would probably count as a steampunk machine.
And thank you for posting this, it made a lot of CoH'ers happy -
Long story, but a TL;DR at the end for your summing up pleasure:
I first started this game approximately when Issue 16 first came out during a free trial/double xp weekend. My boyfriend had been a previous subscriber around when the game was first released, and after leaving for a few years wanted to come back and try it out again. I had been really interested in the game in the past, but it wasn't an option because up to that point there was no Mac version. With a Mac version available and a free trial up and running, it seemed like the perfect time to join my boyfriend and see what the fuss was about.
I needed to roll a villain, and so I chose the most awesome sounding AT out of the list, the stalker. I made my villain-y ninja girl a martial arts/ninjitsu stalker, and picked out a costume full of malicious bad-***ery. So things went great until level 8 when my supervillain began to eat pavement. A lot. I had years of mmo experience prior to CoX, and even more video game experience before that, so it frustrated me to not be able to troubleshoot why I was dining on concrete so often. I struggled to 14 and was about to call it for the game until I got Superjump. The power was so much fun, I realized i could probably be happy jumping around Cap au Diablo for a month yelling, "WHEEEEE," so I decided to try a month subscription to the game. Yeah, I liked it that much.
So at this point I decided to reroll something stronger, something tougher, and yet remarkably attractive. My boyfriend recommended a brute, and in order not to make the same mistake I made with the stalker as a starting class, I decided to research on the brute boards what primaries and secondaries work well together. I saw an incredibly popular article with an incredible amount of responses about an amazing brute combo. I decided at this point that I was going to make this combo and not bother to look at the thread. Yes, this Morrigana was almost Strong and Pretty. I had just decided to make the WM/EA brute when I thought I'd skim through the brute guides one last time, and Heraclea's DM/WP guide caught my eye. The way she (he?) talked it up and used song quotes to emphasize her points made it sound like just about the coolest thing ever, save for super jump, and I went with that. I couldn't be happier with my first level 50 character, and she's still my main

lol a huge cyclops monster and a kronos class titan certainly helped

By any chance, due to the actions of someone with multiple accounts in AP33...is there any hope in reporting someone for griefing anymore? Or are reports basically not handled anymore?
EDIT: For what it's worth, someone came up with a great way to push him away from his targetExcept he came back to the keyboard

In the long run, this isn't really a big deal and could probably have been done by any class, but I was so proud to once or twice successfully tank Tyrant on my little DM/WP brute. I know this was more in thanks to the wonderful support characters on the magi trial, but it still made me feel awesome
I guess this really isn't a crowning moment but it was just awesome as well, but the first time I used superjump in the game was just amazing. The feel of the travel power made it a thrill to use for the first time, and it's still a lot of fun
EDIT: I forgot to say, the Tyrant fight was specifically important to me because in a previous MMO I used to play that may or may not begin with a W and end in "craft," I would very rarely run through raids on a little deathknight tank. I would get so nervous that I'd usually flinch and close my eyes whenever one of the bosses struck me. So doing something like this successfully in CoH and having it work out was pretty fun -
I'm with you about being tired of almost every major publisher, but there is still a lot of good out there. I'll also vouch for Bastion and Cthulu Saves the World. CSTW usually runs $2.99 on Steam, but is very often on sale for $1.50 and is available as a double pack for the same price with another game. Bastion just has amazing character as a selling point, including the soundtrack, visuals, and narration.
One game I've recently really enjoyed is a point and click adventure, Gemini Rue. If you like games like King's Quest with a sci-fi twist and interesting story, it's really worth it. There are a few shooting sections which (imo) aren't that great due to issues with responsiveness, but they are easily passed. It's $9.99 on steam but is also on sale frequently, or included in bundles. The characters, voice acting, and story (perhaps the strongest element of the game) all sell it, for me at least.
I'm also really looking forward to Torchlight 2 coming out. It's probably closer to mainstream than indie, but Runic Games has just been a great company overall. They went beyond any expectations I could have anticipated of them when I was hoping to find a way to play the original Torchlight on my Mac after buying it for Windows (at the time I wasn't using Steam).
Otherwise I'd recommend checking out the Humble Bundle sets, or other sets where you pay the price you want for a collection of really good games. I think the last one let you get games like Bastion, Braid, Psychonauts, and more for a really low price, and you can dictate where the profits go to (charity or development costs for indie gamemakers). Hope I don't sound like an advertisement for all of these games, I'm just very happy with them
Oh yeah! Almost forgot Starbound, this game looks like it will be a lot of fun! Randomly generated planets that you can terraform. It's by one of the guys who initially worked on Terraria, but left the company. It has robots powered by cats so it has to be good.http://playstarbound.com/ -
Here is the first article I read about the closing, from Giantbomb:

Quote:I read the "City of Children" blog from the one developer, gnashed my teeth a bit, then realized something. A person who is willing to pass such an sour judgement on such a wonderful community, on a topic he didn't even research more than a 3 paragraph Kotaku artcile, is exactly the kind of person whose opinion I don't particularly care about.Ugh. As glad as I am that we've gotten exposure at a top gaming journalism site, the judgemental remarks from people commenting there put my teeth on edge. You could tell that a lot of them looked only at the article itself before commenting, assuming that's all we as a community were doing, and that it was an angry protest rather than a show of unity and support for Paragon Studios.
We even got called a "City of Children" by a veteran developer for networking code in games, who made the same assumptions.
When Tabula Rasa was shut down, its passing attracted a lot of smug snark from observers. I would have expected a more positive and supportive reaction with a game like City of Heroes that is as old as it is, and still has a big player base.
EDIT: Tony did reply to the article though, and did a great job of explaining what it was about. It really filled in a lot of the holes left by the author of the article (though the article itself was positive) and hopefully will give people a better idea of what was going on. Hopefully by having that stated early it will let people know exactly what is going on by players, and what information us players do and don't have access to. -
Here are two from AP 11 about an hour before the rally started:

Hi TonyV, sent you an email.
I'd love to help out with this. I've had professional experience with researching and organizing information, and think this is just about the only thing I have the talent for to help with the Save Our City efforts. Thanks for all of your (and everyone else's) hard work! -
Quote:Though you weren't speaking to me, I'm downloading the demo right now from Steam. It looks like a lot of fun, thanks for the recommendationFreedom Force on Steam is $4.99.
The combo pack with the sequel, Freedom Force vs The Third Reich is $7.49.
Buy it. Trust me. I will be very surprised if you can find a single developer of this game who has not owned it at one point or another. While I abhor the whole idea of Metacritic (actually, it's the power it holds with investors that I abhor) there's a reason it has a Metacritic score of 90/100.
EDIT: Well the demo isn't working with my version of Windows, but supposedly the main game was patched to account for it. Guess it's worth trying a leap of faith at this point! -
Absolutely! Just wishful thinking, but it would be amazing to have a workshop DLC pack with tools to build our own costume pieces and add them to the characters, or trade them as well.

Boyfriend: Agggh!!
Me: !?!?
Bf: Dr. Aeon just rick-rolled me!
The cutscenes look so intense. it's so disappointing that we likely won't see them as they are intended to be, unless we are lucky and another studio takes over production. The capabilities of the LUA engine sound so awesome as well! -
Not sure if this is still going but I'll be in Dark Astoria in case it does if anyone needs a brute or controller. It'd be nice to run through these things one last times for memories and screenies.

Best of luck to you War Witch, and thank you for all of your amazing work with the development of the game! It was very touching to read how this impacted you and other devs and community management, thank you for sharing it with us.
-
Thank you for sharing all of your stories with us and for your part in such an incredible game. Your work with AE has been incredible, which made me feel even more guilty when my villains wheedled you for inf during the Luddite uprising in Cap. Looking forward to reading more Paragon Studios tales from you in the near future
-
Thank you so much for everything, Hit Streak. Wishing you the best.
-
I thought I remembered something about Ocelot Blast, too. That sounded fun
-
If this pans out across all parties involved, you have my support with a Kickstarter or similar funding campaign. Thank you for all of your hard work with Paragon Wiki and attempting to keep players in the game!
-
Like BurnSucka said as well, I don't think we ever crossed paths at all but I want to thank you for all of your Peacebringer information in the Kheldian forums. Your builds and advice were very helpful for my fledgling Peacebringer. Good luck to you!

For some reason I have the theme song to My Secret Identity in my head now....
Good luck to you Fire Man! -
I don't think I can play right away, but I will join in on player/community events as they appear. I'm sure I'll have this song playing non-stop the last day, even if it's not entirely applicable: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m3SjCzA71eM
"Though nothing, will keep us together
We could steal time, just for one day
We can be heroes, for ever and ever
What d'you say?" -
Thank you so much for all of your hard work! Here's hoping this is just a small bump in the road for you and that you land into a fantastic community elsewhere, or wherever your journey takes you.
