One more thing to keep in mind.

Consider how many people that have come and gone. It isn't like the same 100,000+ people have been playing the whole time an no one new never comes. It is a steady flow in AND out of the game.

What if everyone that has gone decided to stay in a hero MMO? That is quite a few more players we would have. Plenty of fans for both games. If all goes in our favor all MUO will do is grab the fans that didn't like the play style of this game.

Lighthouse worked for Sony, whom removed his soul and sent him over to us, which is why he is the way he is.

    [/ QUOTE ]

No, hours upon hours of playing EverQuest and PlanetSide did that (not to mention all those other games that I shouldn't mention, cause well these are the CoH forums). But then, I don't design the game, so you are safe!

    I shouldn't laugh.. but I did.

    Yes yes!

    Exactly what I mean!

Just because they are both about super heroes doesn't mean they will be the same game! I wouldn't be surprised if a few people saying they are going to play MUO try it.. find out they hate it.. then come back.

Same thing with the fantasy MMOs. They can all co-exist because they offer different experiences.

I wonder how long CoX will last after MUO starts. Only time will tell...

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Depends.

Apparently it is only for Windows Vista. Not only is the operating system itself going to limit access, the hardware requirements will probably be much higher than CoH/V.

That is only what is obvious. There are various unknowns.. that will remain so till we can actually play the game. Is the game still casual? That is one of the big things about CoH. It is a CASUAL MMORPG. That is a big strength. Those that normally would never lay down money for a MMO will do so for CoH. Then... well.. will we really enjoy being trapped in a marvel story? It isn't like CoH. It is unique.. anything can happen here. The devs can do what they want with the story because it is THEIR story.

    CoH isn't dead yet.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Hey, Marvel's taken PLENTY of liberties with their storylines...

I doubt the game will or can be a direct adaptation of Marvel at all. They're re-created the characters of it so many times now, it doesn't matter.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well.. the point wasn't to make prediction on faults. It was that CoH might offer a completely different experience from MUO. CoH isn't dead yet. There are so many things that we all love CoH for that MUO might miss the mark COMPLETELY on.

    "Moral Combat"

    People? People who?

I hate saying this, but I think you underestimate the power of stupidity. If nobody takes a stand and just assumes everyone is smart enough to know better.. well then bad things happen.

There are also a lot of easily taken advantage of parents out there. Parents, especially the new ones, will do ANYTHING.. and I mean.. ANYTHING for their child. They will do anything for the well being of their child even if it doesn't make any sense. When it comes to a child it is "act now and think later". If you tell a bunch of dads that dressing in adult diapers and sucking on baby bottles will help their babies then BY GOD those fathers will do it. What is the MAIN focus of anti video game propaganda? "It will turn little jimmy into a killer!".

Don't laugh. I am 100% serious. What about people that have barely heard of a video game? Tell them it could turn their child into a murderer and they will most likely go "OMG TEH VIDEO GAME! EBIL!".

I'm extremely disappointed that an image of Statesman would be used in such a way. I know that we designed City of Heroes to appeal to "children of all ages." My proudest accomplishment with the game is that many parents (including my brother) play with their children...sharing, I hope, the same joy for the comic book world that I've had ever since I was 8. I cannot express the shock that I felt seeing that a character created by Cryptic would be used in the same sentence as Columbine.

    [/ QUOTE ]

If that footage is copyrighted by NCSoft or Cryptic, I recommend you contact the producers of that film to have it removed. By using images of Statesman, the filmmakers not only impugned the noble (and American) ideals Statesman represents, but also destroyed any credibility they may have possessed--City of Heroes is not a violent or base game.

Statesman's inclusion into that trailer constitutes slander. It utterly misrepresents City of Heroes.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Wouldn't it be possible to use their blunder AGAINST them? Get the word out there.. throw in the American ideal stuff.. show as many people as possible what all this BS about video games really is.. alarmist propaganda. A few people are trying to spread fear and terror to the masses through ignorance. Shouldn't we be doing everything possible to uncover these types of people for what they really are?

I just know doing nothing won't work..

edit: Is it to much to hope that Cryptic will not take this laying down? They need to come down on this hard.

I think "Lighthouse & Friends" (Good name, huh?) are doing a fine job.

Granted, I've disagreed twice on the Mods choice of thread deletion, although, side from that, there's not one mistake I've seen them make (concerning moderation).

All the closed threads have been a load of nuts and bolts.

    [/ QUOTE ]

It only takes one exception to disprove all, yes?

Miss_Kitty's followup "the tails are clipping" thread. The first thread got out of hand, got locked, Kitty started a second one, it did not get out of hand...it got locked.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Creating new threads when the original gets locked is against forum rules. Sorry.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Except Lighthouse himself explained I could remake the thread if I kept it civil. I did.. it got locked anyway.
  13. To be fair, there already was a thread about it, and the mods showed a fair hand for the original thread(not created by me). The notify mod button worked well for the life of that thread(people just loved flaming tail lovers in that thread. No idea why).

At this point there is nothing that can be done. I find this discussion interesting but ultimately useless. There are two options. Live with the current moderation, or go to a fan site forum.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Hehe.. I don't know why, but this makes me giggle.

I think it would help if people started using the notify moderator button. It really does work. I've seen it in action personally. For those that don't know where the notify moderator button is.. refer to this helpful chart I made for one of our forum posters!

    Clicky ME! OBEY!

It is easily missed, but there it is. The mods WILL investigate a notified post. Can't expect the mods to know where to go on their own. It isn't as if any of them have a mod sense.. except Lighthouse of course.
  15. *Throws a bag of popcorn into the thread and watches it pop*

The package says it has extra butter..

  16. It seems the mods have lightened up a little bit recently... or I have been posting a lot less.
  17. Right click the link.. save as. My browser automatically prompts me to save it, but IE just displays something weird if you click directly on it.
  18. Hehe.. what they said. Being the only one in that SG lets me swap it out. Hope nobody had trouble with the demo record. I tried to make a guided tour with talking and everything, but that attempt somehow got bugged. All text appeared twice, and there was a lot of stutters and jumping around. The test run works just as well.

I was actually kind of surprised that a demo record worked in a base, but now I guess I don't know why I wouldn't.
  19. Alright.. I made a final few tweaks, and I am now ready to show off my base! Rather than do a bunch of screen shots I decided to do a demo file. If you don't know what that is I will link to a guide at the end of this post.

Catnip Alt Collection SG Base (Right-click.. Save as)

Save that in the City of Heroes directory in a folder called "client_demos"(without the quotes of course). If the folder doesn't exist just make it. Those of you that know what the heck a demo file is are all set to watch it. For those of you that don't..

Zloth's Screenshot and Demo Guide v2

Don't be intimidated. It is easy, and once you are set up you can get a better look at my base than screen shots will give you.

  20. Not sure if this is really the place to put this. This doesn't seem so much like a bug as it does a bad decision during a costume reshuffle.

Females(males apparently don't get this at all) have glove options called dragon and cloud bracers that went missing from sleeved jackets. You can check out these bracers under most categories except for one it went missing from. One of my favorite character's can't tweak her main costume because of that. These bracers are pretty much skin tight. They don't clip with anything so I am not sure why they were removed. Probably just lost in a reorganization. I would love it if they appeared back under sleeved jackets. Repeat... sleeved jackets. They are under sleeveless, but they should be under sleeved to. I can provide a screen shot with proof these were available at one point if I need to.

Oh, military sleeves clip something awful all over the arms on my thug mastermind. Idling is fine. Firing her pistols is a problem though. She also has a fedora. The back of the head clips with the hair. Messing with the body sliders for the head can fix this, but I just thought I would mention it.

Sorry if any of this was mentioned before.. but I can't go though 65 pages.
  21. [ QUOTE ]
Just because you don't look forward to new costumes doesn't mean someone else out there isn't coming back to CoH for I8 just because of them.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    *Raises hand*

I'm hoping to find any excuse to use a belly shirt in a costume.
  22. I'll go with the "The more complex the game gets the harder updating it gets" theory.

In the golden age of CoH most of the updates were considered fairly obvious. Issue one was probably mostly complete when the game launched. Most of the content of the issues after that consisted of re balancing the game. It inflated the issues quite a bit, and tweaking numbers is probably more tedious than it is hard work. Such things were probably relatively easy. Other content was simple as well. What SHOULD be added was rather obvious.. what had to be done was easy to conceive. Now though? We have started to enter the "what more CAN we do?" phase. It requires more thinking.. more inventive ideas.. and consequently harder to implement ideas.

Take the inventions system. Old timers will remember when it was supposed to be the SSOCS(pronounced socks)? Statesman himself commented on how he couldn't get the system to be fun(which has since been translated by players into meaning balanced so they don't overpower the game again). Apparently a lot of versions of this system were trashed. Then it turned into the inventions system recently. A fun fact about the development cycle(strait from the mouth of a dev once upon a time) is that the content for an issue can be in development up to six months or more before the issue hits the test server. What does this mean? Any delay in a release probably draw its origins to months back.

Wasn't the inventions system supposed to be in this issue untill they eventualy had to just move inventions back to issue nine? That might be part of what we are seeing. Consider how many times this system(and it's predecessor the SSOCS) got delayed. We are finally starting to witness the effects of a problem that goes WAY back. It isn't that the devs stopped trying as hard. More like it is harder to get the new systems in.

I think I will agree that smaller more frequent updates are best. I know that having one big shiney gift is nice, but I have seen how the community gets between issues. It is a tale going back to the golden age of COH. Everyone gets antsy and mean the longer an issue takes to get out. More frequent updates, even if small, would help keep thing cool around here. Probably keep some people subscribed longer too.
