You can pick one that is smaller than 100x100 pixels and use it as is. Otherwise I think you'll need .GIF editor software. I don't know if you can edit one of his existing files or not. I think if you have the software, you would need to edit each image down to 100x100 pixels. I don't know if you can use his images to do that or not - I've never tried it with something I found online, only animations I did myself.

PS - if you do use one of his avatars, make sure you store the file on a web/picture host of your own instead of linking directly to his image. It's good etiquette. If you need an image host, I recommend flickr.com or photobucket.com.

I think this also depends on country of origin. I believe that debit cards from Canada work differently than US debit cards and people have had issues with them in the past. I'm not certain if a Canadian debit card works or not.
  3. Oh, one more thing! When you change your account, make sure you use the Upgrade button/option and avoid the Add option.

Upgrading will change your current account and Add will open a new one, which means you will lose all your current progress. This is also helpful for any add-on packages you want to apply to the account later. Always use the Upgrade option unless you actually want to open a new account.
  4. You need a credit card or, I think, a PayPal account to do it online. You can buy a game card at retail stores like Best Buy. (Make sure it's a game card and not a "time" card.)

Also, since this is now the "English" forum and not the "United States" forum, if you buy the game online, make sure you buy the correct version. There's a version for the EU and one for the US. Anyone can use either, but if you buy the US version, you will play on US servers and vice versa. If you want to keep the character you started on the trial version, make sure you upgrade with the same regional version as the trial you started on.

From people who are looking at prices from outside the US and from the hotel website/staff, which seems to offer approximately eleventybillion different prices for the room based on various factors, such as discounts, nights spent, weather patterns, shirt color, and how many times you blink while making a reservation.

They do. Personally, I'm hoping he comes as Gato Man, or whatever his Feral Cat tribute character is. Especially if it includes the hair.
  8. SpyderNoir would also like to join, though I'm not sure who he would like to bring. I'll let him add that when he can.
  9. Wow, I can't even remember the last time I did this TF.

    This.

I don't have an account there because I have nothing to post there that I can't email or text the few people who might actually need to know. I don't need an account because no one really cares if I had a bagel for lunch or that OMG, I just stepped in gum!! I don't check most Twitter pages and I can't bring myself to do something people call "Tweeting."

But it does have it's useful place in the way we get information and there are a lot of people who use it to good advantage.

One of its features is the ability to completely ignore it if you so choose. If it confuses you, you can either learn more about how it works or never open a Twitter page if you don't want to.
  12. Great advice in this post. I'd team with this person!
  13. I'm excited. I have my ticket and hotel room reserved and now have to make flight arrangements.

I'd like to do the Bucca dinner and I definitely want to go to that place with the bacon waffles again. My goodness, those were good!

That doesn't mean the event is only for local people. It only means you can't afford it at this time. Sorry, I know that can be tough. I have friends in Canada I'd like to visit more often, but it is expensive. That doesn't mean only Canadians or locals can visit my friends, it just means I have other financial priorities. See how that works?

But you need to be in an SG to use the power. Some people care more about badges than powers, but many of us don't. But really, there are loads of vet rewards I never use and it doesn't much matter to me. I've never touched the Greek letters in the costume creator, for example.

As for Sofacat, you could always start your own SG and invite all your alts to join. Then you can have a base and the teleporters. You can even get all the teleport beacons and only have one teleporter, if you want. You can go into the base and swap the beacons as needed to get to whatever zone you want. In CoV it's not such a big deal, but it can be very useful in CoH, especially when you're lower level with no O-Portal or want to get to a zone the portal won't go to. (Hazard zones, etc.)

You need another party to join your SG and invite all your alts. (Make sure to strip that person of invitation powers right afterward if it's not someone you know well.) If you want to try it out, you can post a request on your server forum for someone willing to invite all your alts. If you can't find anyone, send a global tell or friend request to me (@MissInformed) and I'll help you next time we're on at the same time. I can make an alt on any server I don't already have a character on and I've got characters on most servers now since I've done this for people quite a few times.

It's fricking impossible to get a team going Redside. Nobody is looking, nobody wants to join, nobody will join if asked. Add in that I don't want to have to do all the team leader crap EVERY time I play a villain, and it's downright painful.

I'm finally to the point where I want to complain about this ****. I can find teams or form teams heroside- it's not the easiest, but at least it's possible. Redside? Yeah, it was tough enough before AE came around, and now it's basically "throw yourself at crappy AE things or play your villains solo"

All the advice like "form your own team" is great and all, but it doesn't necessarily work.
Then take some additional steps. Look for your server forum and post a message asking people to join you in running missions for Contact X or whatever you want to do that night. Include a time and place to meet and your global handle. If you want a team, you're going to have to work harder to sell people on why they should team with you instead of doing whatever else they wanted to do. Once you get one team, friend the people so you know who was open to teaming and who was fun to team with. Sure it's harder, but it's always been harder on the red side. If it wasn't the AE, it would be the fact that the game is 5 years old and there's been little marketing done to get new players to come onboard in the last 3 or more of those years.

Let's all hope while you're selling people on the idea of joining you, the marketing team is working on selling people the idea of joining all of us.
  17. I think there are a lot of ways to slot things that many guides don't mention.

For example, may want to slot 3 damage, but are you also slotting for accuracy? If you're not able to hit something, you can't do damage and you're running out of endurance faster.

Some people may be getting all their recharge from IO set bonuses and not slotting individual recharge enhancements. They may be doing that with accuracy, as well. If you're looking at how someone else is slotting, make sure you take all the bonuses into account. If you slot the same way they do with SO/IO enhancements without bonuses, you aren't going to perform the same way they are with their bonuses. They may forget to mention these details either in guides or in help channels.

Slotting needs/preferences may change as you level up. On my low-level melee characters with lots of toggles, for example, I will slot loads of endurance reduction enhancements and few damage resist/defense enhancements. It won't matter how much resist/defense I have slotted in my toggle powers if I can't keep the toggles up. Once I get Stamina and/or other ways to manage my endurance, then I'll start replacing my endurance reductions for more resist/defense enhancements. If you're following someone's slotting recommendations for a level 50 character on your level 15, you may want to ask the person if he or she can remember how the character played at level 15 or what kinds of changes the person made from 15 to 50. My Dark/Dark Brute sucked before getting Stamina and SOs (No Inventions back then) and my slotting was entirely different at 15 or 20 than it is at 50. If I tried to use my level 50 slotting methods on a level 15 Brute of the same kind, I'd be very ineffective and very unhappy.

It is and it should be changed. I've sent suggestions, bug reports, and PMs to Devs, but I don't think it's very high on the priority list. It's really sad to see new players getting frustrated in help because they think no one's replying to them even while you're reading three replies people made to their question. If enemy chat is not set to be enabled at account creation, the system should at least not count the Help channel as "Enemy" chat.
  19. I play "regularly" on Justice, but I have alts on several servers. I recommend everyone have at least a few alternate servers as well as their alternate characters, since it makes things easier when servers crash or are locked when too many players are online. Global channels make this easy, since I can keep in touch with my regular teammates no matter where I'm playing.
  20. I would like...

... to have the forums use a separate password from my game account. Using the same password for both makes me nervous.

... an option to select "always preview posts before submitting" or something similar to the option the old forums had. (Perhaps this exists and I just can't find it.) On the old forums, I was able to set that option in my preferences and all posts would be forced to preview mode before they required a final click to be submitted. Here I need to remember to do it manually. My memory is not what it used to be, so any way to help automate my posting quality control is very much appreciated.

... less background noise. The background image seems to slow down my iPhone forum viewing. (No, I'm not an addict. SO?!) It also seems to reload before anything else when I choose to open a new thread in a new tab or window, treating me to a less-that-lovely view of Statesman's codpiece whenever I open a window/tab that way. It would be nice to get rid of some of that clutter/crotch.

Generally speaking, I'm enjoying the new forums very much.

If I wanted a purely text based message board, I'd go back to 1992.

I don't have any problem with images being reduced or hidden "by default" as long as a show button exists, however.
I enjoy multimedia message boards, too. Except when I vist my family, who don't have internet access and don't have any free wi-fi spots around. I'm on dial up when I'm there and having the ability to show no images (even avatars) was a useful feature of the old forums. Right now I have most images off, but don't see anything to turn off the avatars.

I also check (and post) from my iPhone. While it's faster than the dial-up at my mom and dad's house, the new forums seem to be slower than the old ones. Fewer graphics would be appreciated there, as well. The more buttons I can click in my personal options to turn things off, the better. If my image viewing choices don't affect you at all, it's even more better.

You can also try using the Help channels to ask questions while you're in the game. There's a local Help channel on each server that you can access by typing "/help, <messsage>." It shows up as a purplish-blue color by default and anything you send to that channel can be seen by anyone on the server, so long as they have it added to their chat tab. I play on Justice and frequently answer questions in that channel. It's usually defaulted to show up on anyone's global chat tab and has to be removed manually if you don't want to see it.

There is also a global channel called "Help." It's public, so anyone can join and add it to his or her chat tab. This one generally needs to be manually added to the chat tab. At least once a week someone will come in and ask questions in the global Help channel without adding it to the visible chat channels on the tab, so the person can't see the responses and asks the question over and over again until frustration sets in or someone can send a /tell explaining to add the channel to the chat tab. If you use global Help, make sure to add it to your chat tab!

If you're not sure how to add channels to your chat tabs, send me a private message here or a global tell to @MissInformed and I'll be happy to walk you through it.

There have been a lot of posts about that, as well as assusations of people being acting elite because of high post counts. But that has little to do with post count and more to do with people simply being rude. People who want to be rude are going to be and don't need any excuse. The only way to cut oneself off from anything rude is to block off ones eyes and ears, like Tommy, and go hide. Be outraged at the action, but not the tool someone used to perform the action.

Personally, I argued to keep both post counts and registration date because I used them to help people. If someone comes in asking a question about the game, I checked both post count and reg date and adapted my answer to what I saw. If I saw a recent date and low post count, I would avoid acronyms, include more links instead of saying "check site/thread X", and generally include more details. If the person had been around for years and had a low post count, I would avoid assuming the person was familiar with the number of times the questions had been asked/answered in the past and provide as much info as possible. If the person had an old reg date and a high post count, I'd use acronyms, refer to older posts/examples, and generally gear my answer toward a vet player. I'm sure sometimes I was off the mark - I could have geared a newbie answer toward someone who lurked on the forums for 3 years and just didn't post much. But it always helped me err on the side of caution and prevented me from giving a new player an answer he'd neeed a vet secret decoder ring to figure out.

It's not about the tool, it's about how the tool is used. Lots of people decry any kind of ratings system because they can be and often are abused. That's the fault of the people using them and there's nothing inherently mean or bad about the tools. They've helped me more than they've hurt me and on these forums, I have the ability to turn off and hide the reputation if I ever feel like it's hurting me.

We all know people who just don't take criticism well. Unfortunately that ability does leave it open for people to leave feedback just to be mean or petty, say something unkind to people they don't like, etc etc. But we take the chance of seeing that every time we log into the internet and open email or anything else where someone can send us a message.
