You can pick one that is smaller than 100x100 pixels and use it as is. Otherwise I think you'll need .GIF editor software. I don't know if you can edit one of his existing files or not. I think if you have the software, you would need to edit each image down to 100x100 pixels. I don't know if you can use his images to do that or not - I've never tried it with something I found online, only animations I did myself.

PS - if you do use one of his avatars, make sure you store the file on a web/picture host of your own instead of linking directly to his image. It's good etiquette. If you need an image host, I recommend flickr.com or photobucket.com.

Don't forget to take out the initial http://www that shows up in the link box. That's what's breaking your current avatar.

That's not the only thing. If the first http://www. gets deleted, there's still a colon missing and the avatar isn't a square, so it's probably going to be distorted. (Although at least one person seems to have gotten around the 100x100 rule and has an avatar that's at least double the size of everyone else's.

Ridgid, if you want to troubleshoot an avatar, right click on the broken image and choose "properties." That will show you the URL the picture is being linked from and you can see what's wrong with the URL or the size of the image.

May I offer the point of view that that animated avatar might not be as cool as you think? Sure, it might look nifty sitting there all on its lonesome, but next to your post it can be distracting as all get out. They really irritate me, and I often skip over reading posts, especially longer ones, if their animated gif is is on the verge of giving me a seizure.

Just something to consider.

I agree and furthermore do not appreiciate *huge* Signature pic's - especially overly large animated ones.

Yeah, I recall one dipstick that was using an 1,100K animated GIF at one point.

There is someone using a 12.5MB animated avatar of gravitational lensing around a black hole, linked from wikipedia. Man I love adblock.
