Incarnate slots are character progression. Incarnate costume pieces are fluff. Even if I unlocked them, I tend to doubt that I'd use them on any of my 11 level 50 characters.

    Yes. Positron says:

"When we first started working on the Incarnate System we knew that it needed a certain amount of awesome attached to it in order to get people interested in actually doing it. If there were not specific rewards tied exclusively to the system, then people will simply continue to do “whatever is easiest” to attain the new rewards created for it."

That kind of thing never works on me. For example, I never used Shivans because I don't want to bother with PVP zones. None of my characters unlocked the Croatoa witch hats or Roman armor. Attaching "awesome" doesn't get me interested in doing it; it just serves to rub some shine off my admiration of the developers.

    Here he is.

  4. Personally, I'm not interested in a solo path for Incarnate stuff. I've already written off the Incarnate system. Any solo path the devs came up with would almost certainly be far too grindy for me to consider. Plus, repeating the same missions with the same characters breaks immersion for me.

I agree that offering heavy team play as a way for soloers to get stuff is stupid. If I have to go through a great deal of pain with even just one character, it's not worth it for me. I'm playing the game to have fun.

So, I'll just hope that the devs will eventually get back to making some things that I like. The latest updates have had nothing I'm interested in at all.
  5. Neither. I'm not good with teaming stuff, especially long (TF) or hard (trial) teaming stuff. TFs and trials just aren't fun for me. In fact, they're a major pain.

I suppose you could say that I favor the TFs. I've done two of those (years ago). I haven't done any trials.

Well, sure. For a lot of people, this is cool stuff. For me, this stuff looks to be a bunch of worthless garbage. But if it keeps the population up and the game going, that's okay.

I do tend to wonder if the devs will ever be adding anything I'll be interested in someday. Well, it's not like there are any other superhero games I'm interested in these days.
  7. Apes have been in charge of most land areas on Earth for quite some time now. (Because humans are, in fact, apes.)
  8. I'm starting to get very interested in Puella Magi Madoka Magica. On the face of it, it sounds fairly confusing and bizarre, but I've heard nothing but good things about it so far. Cute magical girl story meets cosmic horror story. Definitely not for young kids, despite the art style.

****** cop! William Shatner can make anything work.
  10. I'm shocked. This show was shaping up to be as loyal to the comics as Birds of Prey and the Catwoman movie. Maybe they didn't make it whacky and campy enough. Throw in a goofy witch aunt, and have Nemesis show up as a hip biker dude love interest. That kind of stuff always works.

They are basically disputing this and are saying "when it's ready.":

"UPDATE: Sony has informed us that Bloomberg's wording, which was the foundation of this story, is inaccurate and the May 31 "deadline" does not exist. There does not appear to be any hard deadline established, only to return services as Sony determines the appropriate security measures are in place."

    Once again, EPIC ******* FAIL.
Yes. Things are worse. And no word from Sony on why.

If I could access my account, I'd have canceled it by now. (I was planning on doing that before the downtime, but I had been giving them a chance to amaze me with information on new updates. They amazed me, but not in the good way.)
  12. Good news, folks. It looks like Sony is now planning to have everything back by the end of the month!

    *looks at calendar*

Oh dear. That's still a ways off, isn't it. Well, it's good news for all the other online game companies, I guess.
  13. So... Sony apparently had inadequate protection for its networks. Aged Apache software and no firewalls, according to congressional testimony, although to be fair, it wasn't actually testimony from Sony itself. Sony is looking more and more negligent, which isn't going to look good when they face those huge class action lawsuits. SOE in particular was already having a rough time before the data hack, suffering many layoffs and shutting down three of its five studios.

[groundless speculation] I wonder who SOE will be selling its MMOs to when it goes out of business. [/groundless speculation]

Don't blame the concept when it should be pointed towards developer ineptitude.
Personally, I wouldn't dismiss the system without trying an improved version of it.

The main problem I have with their system is that whoever set the default proportions must be thoroughly demented! It takes me a lot of tweaking to make the proportions look reasonable... or even somewhat human. Sure, it's easy to create something bizarre looking, but it's hard to make a good looking human character. That makes it hard for me to judge the system. (Well, plus I don't like the graphics style.)

It's not like what controllers or scrappers can do, but it is steady.
Funny, I always saw it as the other way around. My defenders needed the build tweaking and threat selection to solo at a reasonable pace. Plus a lower (-1) difficulty setting is helping my defenders now. I suppose play style has a great deal to do with it, as my blasters didn't get killed any more than my other characters on average.

And more hero groups for villains to fight. For CoH 2, I mean. There just aren't enough hero groups for villains to fight in the current game.

It was also the only archetype that could make that assertion.
Hmm. I thought that datamining was showing blasters got killed more often, not that the were slower. But you would know. And of course getting killed a lot will slow you down a lot.

Hmmph. I'm a casual player, but I admit my play style isn't very conventional, what with the single target damage approach and standard difficulty settings. It's really hard for me to imagine blasters soloing slower than defenders or controllers. My only characters who can go as fast or faster than my blasters are scrappers and brutes.

(Although... my Mind/Energy Dominator has been right up there ever since Domination got changed.)

    ??

No, I don't get that. There must be some build I'm overlooking. My blasters have always soloed significantly faster than my controllers, and I've been soloing the vast majority of the time in this game for seven years. My Ill/Rad Controller is better at fighting elite bosses and certain other tricky situations, but is still generally slower.

But personally I don't think all classes should be expected to solo at the same rate. On the other hand, I wouldn't mind a classless system.

A big thing I'd change for CoH 2 is how the elite bosses are handled. I'd make sure they were generally used in a climactic fashion, rather than sprinkling them in often for no good reason. I'd also make sure they don't present roadblocks for solo players. (For example, make an NPC helper available when facing a particularly tough EB.)
  18. Not so coincidentally, I'm now playing CoH more than I was the past few months. I was planning on leaving a certain SOE game soon anyway.

And on a side note, I will never again complain of poor communication from CoH devs. The lack of communication in SOE is truly amazing.
  19. SOE fall down go boom.

This morning Sony Online Entertainment went offline. All of it. They're investigating an issue in their systems, possibly related to the PSN problems. No word yet on what the problem is or when they might be back.

So things are getting worse before they get better.

  20. Having become the avatar of life, the first thing Swamp Thing does is murder a bunch of corrupt businessmen. (John Constantine is not amused.)

I'm a bit annoyed that Hawkgirl stayed dead, but overall I'm glad that Jade, Martian Manhunter and others are back. Deadman getting killed was predictable, considering.

Is Del Rey still publishing manga? I haven't seen them advertising anything lately. Kodansha is starting to publish in the US now, under the Kodansha Comics banner, and I notice that they've taken over publishing Negima from Del Rey.

Sad to hear about Tokyopop. They've been struggling for a while. Viz better keep going, because they're publishing Claymore, and that's my favorite ongoing manga series.
  22. Norse Force - Ice/Axe Tanker

    Other names I'm fond of:

Glitter - Energy/Energy Blaster - Kind of an obvious name, but this was one of my first characters, shortly after the game launched. The name gets better with the later addition of glitter effects, and much later addition of power customization (blue -> gold).

    Disaster Flower - Plant/Psy Dominator

Hot Topic - I actually didn't know that there was a popular store with this name when I created my Fire/Fire Brute.

    Demonitronic - Tech Demons/Pain Mastermind

Intense Essence - Magic SS/Will Brute
  23. Thor versus the Midgard Serpent is one of the best fights ever!

(And both of them get pulverized! Mutually assured destruction.)

Oh, yes, Issue 4 was definitely good for costumes. I didn't mean to imply otherwise. One of my best costumes was a direct result of Issue 4. That leaves Issue 20 as easily my least favorite update.
