Who would like to start a campaign of "Kidnap a Newbie"?
[/ QUOTE ]
To make a short story long, I have been off-line fixing and re-fixing my computer all week and I finally logged on last night. I ended up on a lowbee PUG. How did that happen? I was not really interested in doing something major. I was just happy to be on, enjoying a faster harddrive and a better MoBo. Wow, what an improvement. I started playing with the hero creator and fiddling around with a couple of alts in Atlas Park:
<ul type="square"> [*] Richard Grizzly PI, (I blame Pepsi.)[*] Joe Mojito, (I learned how to make Mojitos last weekend.)[*] and Gagora, (The spam lady)[/list]
Disclaimer: I have, in the past, been subjected to what I think is extremely unfair criticism about my characters. You know who you are. I have valid, well thought out reasons for all my characters, though I sometimes can't remember them the next day. But they are valid. The Grizzly thing is all Pepsi's fault. I tried to make a girl grizzly but it was just so wrong that I could not do it. Furry bear-babes were not meant to be. Where was I?
Oh yes, then I saw a call for a sewer team. Whats this? thought I, someone in Atlas park who wants to do something other than AE farming?
I recalled Kays post and thought, Well, why not? So I send the reply and get an immediate invite, the team was almost full already and in we go. I guess the newbies sort of kidnapped me. Not everyone of the team was new but some were. I was initially focused on getting my buttons squared-away. Things were happening faster and faster. I was on a DM/Regen scrapper: fast is good. The team smashed through the first few groups and I felt the first whiff of scrapper-lock flowing around me. I was either that or gas, or perhaps fumes from my mojito. Anyway, I need more ways to hurt things so I started pulling out vet powers to cobble together something vaguely resembling an attack chain.
But first a word about Stone/Kinetics controllers. They rock. No, what I mean is right out of the box they are just awesome. Try it, youll like it. We had one on the team as well as a WP/EM tank. An outstanding combination! Back to the story
I whomped a bad guy with my trusty Nemesis whompin'-stick and then summoned a buff pet. Then the tells start coming in. Some of the players were new enough that they had not seen or heard of these things. They were very polite, a rare thing these days, but very curious and eager to learn more. Well, my typing skills are not that great and I did not want to sit there jabbering when there was stuff to hit. I answered a couple questions and then offered to re-unite with two of them and play again this week. Dont know if that will happen but I hope so. We went on for about an hour I guess, made it through the center sewer nexus and went up toward Kings Row. Like all good things, eventually pillows were calling and the team had to separate. I hope I get a chance to see them again. -

At what month badge would you consider anyone a vet?

Oooo good question, Jack! And a tricky one.
I would not consider anyone vet based upon any month badge. -
Don't drink and Surf!
You could snort your drink.
ow. -
I don't go in much for posting personal accomplishments but this one feels special:
"60 months: City Traveller.
For 5 years in the City of Heroes you have received the ability to select Tier 1, 2 and 3 pool powers at level 6 from the following pools: Speed, Flight, Teleportation and Leaping."
That made my day! Time to do some optimizing... does Mid's even support this? -
Very kind of you to take the time to write this excellent guide.
-
Wonderful idea, Kay.
I did this for a while, prior to AE, and i slowly got out of the habit. Glad you brought it up.
I have some 20ish and 30ish heroes i have been doing mostly contacts and radios with. I'd like to team with you and yours.
Oh and no defenders for me (Pepsi take note) -
so my uber computer is busted and Im on this dinky crap-top computer and Im surfing and i find this.
-
Huge congrats! I just called Swan Lee to tell her. She says, "YAY! Good job BB!"
Beer: the other breakfast drink.
You did it the old-fashioned way! You took your time, went through the content, learned the game, and have not forgotten that this is just a game. You are fine team mate.
Altitis is not a disease, it is a lifestyle.
Let PL'ing begin!
Um... oh yeah... just as soon as I fix my computer... (small tear forms in corner of eye as he clicks link for newegg.com) -
I'd take it to court.
PS. thanks for the movie review too. I plan to see it this weekend.

Well, not to throw a wet blanket on a fun topic, it was invented to help a lady who had undergone cancer surgery. Hence the name.
I say, "Anything to help save second base." -
Kidding aside, it is a fun TF. (Every day is a good day to clobber a Nazi!) But, like all TF's if you have the wrong team or, more importantly, the wrong players, it can turn into drudgery.
I think one of the most interesting ways to level up a character is to do nothing but TF's. You want to talk about "powerlevelling"?
However, I am very fortunate that I have some of the best team mates one could ever ask for. the best one being the lady who's computer sits off to my left, my wife.
Even with that we went into STF the other night and for whatever reason, we apparently had the wrong power-mix and we never finished it. Yeah, there was a little drama, but we got over it. Hey, better luck next time. We will comeback better prepared. -

...So many of the missions are "stealthable" with "clicks" and "done". .....
Anyone else have any thoughts?

Hi Devs,
Thought maybe you could use a pick me up after reading these boards.
I was a member during beta, and the 3 day headstart. I played for about 23 months. I left, I came back for CoV, I left again, I came back for AE.
AE is incredible. You've done a really nice job with it and both me and my friends are enjoying it greatly. We like making missions, especially our own custom groups and backstories.
I like the ease of forming a group, and I especially like the ability to log in, and be playing a full arc almost right away. I don't have to travel all over the server searching for doors in warehouses anymore. Honestly, that was one of the biggest reasons for my interest in this game flagging. All the travel. It really made for some boring gameplay while I was waiting to get to the next mission.
But now with AE, I have instant access to new game content. You've brought MMO's to the next step in their evolution, user generated content.
I'm very impressed with the entire system and the way it's been implemented. Please rest assured that I am enjoying the AE and apparently so are a lot of other players. It has only improved my gameplay experience.
Thanks.
P.S. Players who are planning on responding to this thread in vehement disagreement are welcome to go to the official farming thread and scream their hatred into the abyss.

Well said. It is past time for more satisfied customers to step up and say so.

Sorry, that should read:
"To your surprise, it won't install on DOS 2.0"
(And BTW - when I was 12, the ONLY computer I had access to ran on an HP 2000 mainframe via a teletype terminal aat 100 baud (no K), and was called 'STT1' (It was a Star Trek simulator written circa 1973); and I STILL don't consider myself 'too old' for CoX).

I played that and the first version of "Zork" from a terminal in my schools math office connected to the mayfair mainframe in 1976-77. -

Since I don't offer up my MArc for reviews, I logged in to see if anyone had played it recently -- and was stunned to see THREE COMPLAINTS!!!

You need to grow a thicker skin. If your work is good, who cares? You enjoy it. Your friends enjoy it. Many other people (apparently) enjoy it. Do not expect to please everyone and do not get angry when you don't. Don't get all wrapped up in the praise either.
Do not surrender control of your happiness to others or to a game. -

Need a little advice on this topic as I know that we can't use copyrighted content for AE arcs, but what about ripping on tv shows out there?
Basically it was a silly idea for an arc about reality TV gone bad, complete with an Elite boss named "bridezilla" (Yes I was REALLY bored at work this week) Or a ghost hunters spoof with malta sapper allies (Cookie for anyone who guesses why)
Just don't want to step over that line and cause any issues with copyright infringement, any chance it might be doable?
[/ QUOTE ]
I say just do it and do a good job. If someone does not like it, you will know. Have fun. Be creative. Be original. Be happy.
You did not really need me to tell you that, but I'm hoping to be told when I can play it!
Good luck -

Goodness -- I'd say Guardian's peeps are dropping like flies, but I've never seen flies drop this fast.
I'm in it for the long haul! Or until I lose my income.

This used to bother me alot. It is sad to see a veteran leave. But one becomes used to it.
I wish Alien and all the rest who have signed off lately happy times.
