ok its not a blaster but i have a /fire dominator, and flares is generally a necesity

    [/ QUOTE ]

Flares is mandatory on /Fire Dominators, there is no choice .
  2. Stun is a nice utility power for PvE maybe if you find yourself wanting to solo anytime. PvP, well it's not great because of the huuuuge animation time, and although I'm not sure of numbers, yeah it seems erratic in success.

Bone Smasher & Total Focus etc are great detogglers and have great disorients. Someone else could give you better info for numbers etc . I *think* Total Focus is 100% on dropping 1 toggle, and might be that high for causing disorient?
  3. Signing for Crystal' SF on Wednesday:

    Rikti One: Mind/Energy: Dominator .
  4. Oooops... missed this . Erm, probably a lot my fault also seeing as we were all carried away running new villains around PO at the time .

    If I can make it...

    Toon :- Deadly Avenger

    AT :- En/En Blaster

    Representing :- Defiant, badly.
  5. Not offended at all .

To be fair I did say a must on all Dom's I have for what I like to do and where I like to play them, which I did neglect to mention again in my most recent reply . So sure, it is not a must for all Doms. I, for my experience like it very much on mine, as much as you, for your experience prefer not to.
But I'd say that "good" Dom's not needing Aid Self would be just as blanket as me indeed saying every Dominator should have it .
  6. Any plans for an SF and day/evening for it yet?

Nice post, Mighty. I would repeat the comment regarding healing. Aid Self/Other is a much better option than relying on the +regen ability of the Spirit Tree.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Good (PvE) domi's hardly need aid self really. Especially a plant domi with it's overpowered seeds which offer a huge (perma) damage mitigation.
Although admittedly handy at times, your build + skills + smart use of insps (and external buffs/heals when teamed) should be enough to handle even the most tough battles 9/10 and leaves room for 2 more useful powers imho.
And ofcourse that lovely tree only provides first class highly occasional usefull pants.

    [/ QUOTE ]

TBH I did mention and reccomend Aid Self with a view to using the character in any part of the game, including some forays into PvP, which I'm guessing Scarlet Shocker will want to try at some point, and also for high repped end game content.

But,even good PVE Dom's roll unlucky sometimes . And a high level EB, AV or Hero, with purple triangles is going to complicate your theories somewhat .

TBH I'm sceptical if you imply good Dom's don't take Aid Self, it must be poor ones that do. I find the opposite of what you say true, and it's the better Dom's that have taken it over a couple of powers in any set that would be more or less redundant anyway, and are usually those standing longest. I guess overall it's a matter of preference. My own is to have toons that are self reliant even if I happen to be playing with really good teammates.

...it always is very hard to get a team on villains if you don't post on the forums.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I found the converse to be true .

I'm up for some SFs and will keep an eye out for what's on offer. Would be nice to see the villain thread get a lot more event and team orientated again.
  9. I LOVE Barrage. Although it gets a mixed reception sometimes.

Level 38 Dominator Blasts tend to come across a bit underwhelming overall.

It does several hits it does 2 X KB which some people tend to berate, but I personally love that. It's great for pushing something out of your face whilst giving them a facefull off thorns in return . Besides the knockback is easily mitigated with your control.

Ripper and Skewer is still the big hitter combo, but Thorn Barrage IS nice and it looks so darn coool! (Power Bolt etc animation firing out dozens of thorns - is like a double nailgun ).

Never taken the spirit tree. Might be good in AB/EB fights I guess.

Hmm, i have heard (US Forums maybe) it has some tools for pvp, since it has some attacks -fly, -speed and -jump, and that is gold for pvp...

Also, and continuing with JawDropper, /energy has PB, so the -def and -res will be affected, isnt it?? Double -res for apply is really tasty

    [/ QUOTE ]

That's the Corruptor version which gives you Web Envelope and Cocoon , and they are ace for PvP . -Jump -Fly etc, plus the do a really nice -recharge for a good duration which stacks soooo nicely if you have other -recharges.

The Web Cocoon you can actually enhance for slows too which effects even if the hold doesn't apply (to something mez resisted etc).

You don't get these on the Dominator version.

I'm not sure you can Powerboost -res debuffs but I'm not 100% sure on that, or -def.

Edit: aha - seen the details in the guide Defuser linked to .
  11. [ QUOTE ]

Maybe a good approach could be Black Scorpion, for his -res in poisonous ray, though i havnt tested it yet... Also the blaster bot could be the toughter pet available, and tends to melee more than others.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Re' Black Scorpion:

The Poison Ray is very very nice. A great enhanceable -def debuff but more importantly a nice -res debuff, which I think off the top of my head is -20%.

I have this on my Plants/Thorns which is probably where is synergises best due to /Thorns having so much -def already and also having Aim. When you factor Domination, Aim and -res to a target with a big hitter like Ripper, you start looking at some really nice damage. I actually tuned mine back to 100% PvE for the sake of running high level missions for cash. Chucking a Gaussian BU in Aim, a Decimation BU in Thorny Darts with an Achilles heel in it too I'm processing proc triggers very quickly vs single targets. Testing is tricky but I've hit a 52 Carnie boss, the gittish Ring Mistress for 350+ twice in seconds from a Ripper and Skewer follow up to BU triggers and all that stuff from Domination and Aim. Which I think is pretty good going on /Thorns.

I don't know how you could build or stack up something similar on Fire or Energy so maybe the mace wouldn't fare so well as a choice and it is probably the key power to consider in that pool if you're gonna take it or not.

The Pet... Toxic Tarantula... oh boy . What a let down. Sure it's awesome looking and it does have some nice tricks as does melee, but it's all lost and an excercise in futility when the damn thing seems to be made from cheap plastic. It's WOEFULLY squishy. I specced it back out and have never ever missed it.

The Shield is quite nice. It's about 35(ish)% slotted up vs Smashing/Lethal and Energy, plus a stupid small amount of Toxic Res. It seems nice for PvE, until you get to very high +conning mobs and it's no good at all for PvP where there's soooo much tohit, particulary from the Hero side.

Edit: Aside, I went for Scirroco on my Mind/Energy and very happy so far having just got Power Sink. It works a treat and the look complements well, so ta for advice guys .
  12. Always slot seeds highly for accuracy.

Not sure how this taking the alpha before getting it deployed is happening. I've never really experienced it outside just a plain unlucky duff roll with a lot of misses. You have Aim in Thorns which is a must take as it also gives a healthy +damage buff.

However if it is an issue, Carrion Creepers at 26 will make alphas a thing of the past, never to be seen again . Creepers are an awesome alpha taker. Again slotted for some accuracy (as an accuracy check per enemy is what spawns the vines per enemy) you should find that nearly all the mob focuses on the vines, away from you and afford you plenty of time to approach and throw Seeds' from wherever you want.

A great way to maximise Seeds' is to follow up with the AoE Immob' and the cone Fling Thorns, keeping everything packed tight and tagging it with all the damage you need to ensure the XP gain from the mob. As you level more, this approach gets stronger as you factor in more power choices.

Skewer is the mainstay and key single target attack for so many levels until you get Ripper at 35 and 'Barrage at 38 and even then is a major part of your chain. Please take it and invest slotting into it .

When you unleash your pet you'll be doing a great job of decimating anything in your path and this can be pushed further with some choice IOs. Remember /Thorns is packed full of -def debuffs, a great place to chuck an Achilles Heel proc for -res . Thorny Dart is a nice place for this as you can get one in without trading off any damage which you wouldn't really be slotting into the power. Unless you want to trade off a slot in Fling Thorns, which I haven't tried, but might be fortuitous for the chance to -res debuff several enemies at once.

Aid Self IMO is a must really on all the Doms I have. I never like to have to rely on a heal from an external source.

Plant/Thorns is very fun and there's some great stuff to look forward to as you progress.

Level 20ish and the early stuff around Sharks does make a bit of a bump for Plant/Thorns. I think the enemies just tend to escalate a little out of touch with your character. But this does reign in again after SOs and some keystone powers around those levels .

If you feel demotivated at all, I'd be happy to lackey you up and show you what a later build looks like and how it rolls. I did this myself at those early 20s struggle levels and once a kind high level showed me their pet, that was it, I was committed and determined to bloody get it .

Late on Plant/Thorns is a pretty spiteful creature and I found it paces not far behind Fire control Doms' for eating through stuff .
  13. Power Boost etc is guilty for skewing high level Defenders.

Actually looking at the sets, there's more arguement that Dominators and Masterminds get treated to an extra primary/secondary. They're the most short changed of the lot with just 5 picks in each.
  14. With just about any MM you'll be set for soloing for levelling, and EBs shouldn't be a problem really at all.

It's how far you want to take it and push the build and push what you can do. If you want to up the stakes and go for soloing things like AVs then some of the builds mentioned above are the way to go.

I have a bots/traps MM and love it. I was rolled for concept (I wanted an evil scientist with evil robot minions and traps fitted the gizmo's & inventions ideas the best - also I wanted a retro almost steampunk raygun... hellooooooo i11 ).

I love robots, because, well, I love the robots. Really nice, characteristic and unique models. Lots of lovely death ray laser goodness.

Traps is just great fun. It's really interactive and you have a couple of choices of ways to play. You can be evil and spiteful and methodical setting up devasting traps and kill areas and luring enemies to their doooooooom...

Or you can be an absolute siege machine and just march up to stuff and drop your evil wares at their feet .

I guess easy depends on how you define easy. With /traps you'll be a very involved MM, interacting a lot, and managing your henchmen and gizmos. Some other sets are a bit more stand offish and require less interaction.

I've had huge amounts of fun with it, and doing things like standing toe to toe solo with a really [censored] off Hero level Valkryie and she never hits you is just fantastic fun and a great payoff for pushing what you have available as much as you can .

The pet seems he preefer to attack rather than healing (it is like the pet say: Im a corruptor, im not a healer )..

You need a "HI! R U HEAL0R!" bind when you summon it .

turns out i chose soul matery as my future patron, but i have consume from the /fire set so do i need dark consumption?

or should i just change to MU mastery which i think i would prefer.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That's the crux of the problem, at the current time, you can't respec and change Patrons... .
  17. Personally I'd love Electrical Corruptors .

A unique set. Well yeah that would be nice. As for the chances being gone...hmmm.... harrr... dunno. I don't see that it would be 100% not going to happen, but yes the whole thing with DB across all the melee toons makes it feel like that (I personally hate the thought of DB on Tanks and think they should have something new that's unique to them).

I think it'd be nice if any new powersets were to come in the future that maybe they came in pairs. A unique for heroes and a unique for villains.

VEAT aside ofc, were well bloody overdue it .
  18. Yep, the stuns are the worse component because the consequetive follow up is pretty much much a guaranteed finisher, and it's not until mid levels you start to get anything proactive to deal with it, so very frustrating early on. Later it's pretty rewarding surviving the paranoia of fearing the next one getting the drop on you when you spot it first and counter it and take it down. When I got taken out by Voids and Quant's tbh I didn't really think "Oh ffs nerf them", I was more inclined to feel frusrated at myself and think "[censored], I wish I'd spotted that one" or kick myself for charging around a corner or through a door straight into one.

Oh I hated them alright. I was spiteful enought to enjoy extracting Dark Essence's from them whenever I could!
  19. The only Villains with Flares should be /Fire Dominators.

  21. None of them.

Probs be better if Ghost Raptor took it down and got something else up if possible communicating the Saucer Raids and Thursday night PvP.
  22. I'd concede to lower levels having been a problem. And whilst Khelds well may be balanced and didn't need kryptonite, Quant's and Void's enemies are definitely a nice and defining feature of the AT.

I just think about a change to them in the same light I saw the Mez issue in new defiance, but I'm sure I'm outweighed by datamining and popular opinion.

But hey, nerf them a bit more, and if I could do something about the slow rolling start, I'd probably get farming with my Warshade.
  23. Why?...

I'm a bit bummed out by that tbh.
  24. Nice raids . Thanks to all that came at such short notice, and thanks to Blue Rabbit and Dufus for the leading and organising honours.

Got a [censored] load of merits so I'm happy .
  25. I admit I have no idea if that would be possible or even work.

I would say redefine the whole PvP rewards system. Rep' is a redundant joke. It means extremely little, affords next to nothing by reward (some badges, which are next to very implausible to achieve thanks to the genius of decaying rep' that's allocated very poorly in the first place).

I don't specifically know what a good replacement would be, but there are now some earnable currency items in game, such as Vanguard Merits, and the Candy Canes. It is also already possible to get some unique salvage items that work for PvP zone objectives, such as the items that assist with Warburg Nuke codes or Shivan Meteorite fragments.

I would say that a system of rewards like this would be much better and could be worked for the badges too if the badges were redefined.

In answer to ganking perhaps such reward should be scaled to team size and the opponent team size so that in an example, the reward is scaled down significantly where a team defeats an outnumbered opponent, ie 6 to 1. The reward being reduced by a proportion that matches the outnumbered ratio.

Conversely, a player being ganked should earn a vastly higher reward if able to defeat a member of a vastly greater team, multiplied to match the ratio that they are outnumbered by.

Of course this needs some further thinking and work to avoid strong solo characters achieving and exploiting easy reward... .

But... at the moment the problem is there is no tangible reason at all for someone outnumbered and heavily or rapidly "ganked" to even want to try and make any fight back.

A system that recognises and rewards true risk/reward (well at least in a much better manner would perhaps encourage people to swap around their available alts over the usual allure of logging into the bigger side and easier "wins".
Afterall, whatever our level of participation and skill aren't all PvP'ers interested in at least having some more exciting, engaging PvP?

It honestly depresses me loggin into Sirens and seeing scores of one faction vs a minimal amount of the other. It's worthless, dull and boring just descending on the weaker side and it's pointless switching as there's no reason or movtivation or challenge to take on the larger faction.
