[/ QUOTE ]
And lo, the heavens did shake, the earth did crumble, as the great hero makers of Cryptic meandered, nay, vaulted into bed with the greatest evil known to man.
On the other hand, does this mean a directx version of CoH/V is forthcoming?
[/ QUOTE ]
Maybe it means Cryptic will begin making a series of crappily animated cartoons? Or possibly we'll get Ultimate CoH which will simply be CoH with a lot of words like EXTREME and EDGY tacked onto it... possibly even "gritty." -
You.. you... you can buy the extras at the same time as the box release!? ZOMG! Something was learned from the DVD release!
You guys done a good thing. Thumbs waaaaaaaaaaay up! -
Nice that you took the time to do this. This gets asked a lot, gets a lot of players confused, etc.
Good work. -
Having played "Kick the Forklift" in a door mission thanks to a gravity controller... I have to endorse this idea. Nice work.

Great guide. The only thing I disagree with is the slotting of the Protector Bots. Slotting them with 2xHeal and 4xDefBuff will help out a ton. Slotting them with Acc and Dmg doesn't help much.
[/ QUOTE ]
I find their heals to be inadequate in frequency and have my own, hence I don't need to rely on theirs. I also find their photon grenading to be more useful (acc). The defbuff I don't worry about because I'm FF and have my shields up if I need them. If I was anything but FF I'd add in defbuffs.
I understand this is a preference item, though, and agree the dmg's don't do a whole hell of a lot. -
I hear this all the time on my teams
Thanks for the build, Foo! -
Don't feel bad...
I let Mr. Malice sit at 39 thinking when I7 hit everyone would come back and play their 40s and I'd just join in, but it looks like that might be problematic so I dusted him off to get him to 40 real quick.
The grinding engine of destruction I remember got tooled in no time flat. Had to lower my difficulty til I got the feel for him again. He's back to his former glory, though. Hehe. -

2000+ posts and you couldn't figure that one out man?
Why in one line would he 'rag on players' for doing something like that then a little ways down say it's not something a player did but a bug?
Didn't read the whole thing before jumping all over it did you?

Somebody also did the recall friend thing on one of the hero pillboxes, making it impossible for villains to take (a very <censored> thing to do IMHO.)

What do you expect from the playerbase?
Might as well say, "Hey, you suck for using our crap programming!" Very constructive.
Quick, someone mod me.

Er, you don't have a single red-name quote in there dude. All that stuff was said by players. What the red-name said was:

regarding the pillboxes and recall, Heroes did not do this- it is a bug; currently, when someone controlling the pillbox dies the turrets sometimes follow them to the reclamator.

I think you're confused because he gaffed the quote, however if you look you can see the bottom line for a the quote-box and see that he's clearly quoting Texan.
Foot in mouth?

See above.
No foot in mouth. No sense feeling ashamed for a mistake caused by poor posting habits. The only time I feel ashamed is when I allow myself to be crass enough to use the self-rightous smirk and then realize the guy I used it on is willing to admit a mistake in the post directly above me. -

Okay.
The redname QUOTED that. They didn't say it.

Either the boards are borked or he tagged wrong. It still shows up as original material on my screen.

Cuppa, any chance you guys could start putting these comics out in CBR/CBZ format? It's a lot easier to read.
[/ QUOTE ]
You know what's even easier to read? The damn paper format we were given at the outset. Haven't read a single issue since the comic went digital except to stand in the comic shop and read the paper copies. Then I don't buy em, cause I'm supposed to get em free.
I keep mylaring my monitor but it just doesn't seem the same somehow.
And those who say, "They never specified the format," well, I wonder what you'd say if you won a Ferrarri and they handed you a Hot Wheels spouting the same crap. -
Keep in mind, Dispersion Bubble is one of those powers that doesn't have a flashy animation to let you know things are missing. You'll just notice your mechs last a lot longer. I actually look at the combat screen to make me feel better sometimes.

Very nice thread...thx for doing this XPP!
As for me, I'm 38, live in WDC. I'm director of communications and corporate relations for an association. Here is a pic of my wife and I . We got married in 2003 in the Outer Banks, North Carolina.

After George Bust... err, Bush, began to use the phrase "stay the course". I pretty much learned to dislike the phrase. No difference here, except for a month or two of my Seeker Drones being less effective, then a nice large leap.
Still leaves a bitter taste, but it's betterr than what Bush force-fed us.
Now, watch as this topic explodes into a ball of political flames, and States escapes scott-free.

Help for you -
[ QUOTE ]
I've read a complaint that Force Bubble will draw aggro from baddies out of your LOS. You might draw in a group of enemies from the next hallway, instigating a fight with multiple mobs. Sounds like the Bubble does a pretty awesome job keeping them at bay, but let me know if you run into this being an issue.
[/ QUOTE ]
By my testing, not true. If someone has aggroed enemies with force bubble, they must have been within LoS at some point.
To test just put up force bubble in Cap and stand behind a wall or around a corner until some Luddites walk into view. You'll see them coming from behind the wall, as soon as they are in LoS, they zip away and aggro.
Now the force bubble is quite large. I would say the people with this view simply aren't keeping the entire battlefield in view and aggro things without noticing. The power is based on LoS whether the animation looks it or not.
Another thing that may be happening, is when the bubble comes up to a door it will push whatever is in front of it off to the side. This is remedied by coming up to the door straight on so you don't miss whoever is standing on the other side with your field of view. Or you can send in the Mechs first. Doors in sewers are problems but can also be pretty funny because the baddies have nowhere to go except into the corners.
If you're on Champion server I'd be happy to demonstrate why Force Bubble is a LoS power. -
Why, thank you, Choice.
I am here to update on a startling discovery. The MalTech Force Bubble generator is formidable, indeed. A House of Malice noble called for aid in his battle against the Wailer Lord. This creature was an immense Wailer specimen and was rated as an Elite Boss according to the Arachnos Threat Scale (ATS). He was accompanied by a Wailer King, two Queens, and some lesser sonic demons.
The three of us, another mastermind using MaliceMechs modified with his own black magic, and a brute of palatable skill, assaulted into the room. The other mastermind was instantly killed by a single volley from the Wailer Lord and his attendants. I activated the force bubble, seeking to separate the lesser wailers and the Lord.
To my utter surprise, I pushed them all back. The Wailer Lord could not resist. I have had to re-evaluate my assessment of the force bubble. I was able to push any class of Wailer and keep the beast off balance. In the corner, with the force of the bubble pressing at him constantly, he was repeatedly knocked back by either the bubble or my forcebolts. He was, in effect, rendered ineffective.
Another useful note, before I leave you once more, the force bubble is excellent for "corking" a hallway. Because the MaliceMechs do several area of effect attacks, it is more efficient to kill them in tightly packed groups. Therefore, I now attempt to get the attention of several foes at once and withdraw to a choke point, capping it with the force bubble. At that point they gather en masse at the perimeter and I unleash the Mechanoid fury.
Adieu. -
Wow! I'm really glad I could help!
-
It won't effect you in the least in PvE. I've almost never needed to use it unless I was trying to "stealth" a mission (not truly stealth, just run by and pray they miss).
-
Update:
Upon reaching threat level 38 I was able to procure parts for a Force Bubble generator and install them into my armor. This generator is simply outstanding.
Anything rated a Boss level threat or below is instantly pushed to the perimeter rendering any melee skill the enemy has useless. I tested the bubble on Paragon's heroes in Warburg to no effect. I have not tinkered with the parameters or improvement slots (enhancements).
Hero ranked threats and archvillain ranked threats walk through the bubble, but for regular villainry, this power is outstanding for a robotic mastermind. -

[ QUOTE ]
But,in every other zone, intentionally giving a player debt is griefing, plane and simple,so why should pvp zones be any diffrent?
[/ QUOTE ]
I think you've hit on the heart of the argument, CanEH.
Some people think you should play your villain like a cooperative hero just like you would in the straight CoH environment. Other people want to play the villain and do what villains do, harrass and defeat the heroes. And some people want to play the anti-hero and do the same to the villains.
In a city where everyone plays heroes, the only reason someone would debt-grief you is because they're being malicious. In a zone where heroes and villains battle, the motivations can vary from "I'm playing my character" to "I am here to defeat hereos by any means necessary" to "I'll teach them to get too close to my base" to "I hope giving them debt ticks them off."
Because there are different motivations, not all of the mean, and the zone is programmed the way it is, how can someone complain?
If someone slaps a PBAoE on me and I run into a crowd of 20 Arachnos that aggro and kill that guy, does he petition because I gave him debt? If I get a hold on a guy in a running battle and he happens to land in a crowd of enemies and dies, is that a petition? Do we really want customer service reps sitting around getting testimony from both sides to determine if someone was being malicious, the incident was purely accidental, or the guy died legitimately?
Probably not. So when someone enters a PvP zone, expect to get debt by engaging the enemy. The only solution for someone wishing to engage in PvP and not get debt is to use the arena.
Or you could start pestering Devs to remove xp/debt from the PvP zones or remove the mobs altogether.
To make debt into griefing in PvP will tie up customer service for eons and cause someone who's RPing a villain (in an MMORPG no less) to be viewed as a debt-griefer for doing what villains do.
So to answer your question, it's all in how you game. -
[ QUOTE ]
im actually not sure that that is actually doable. things like the police drones is easy to code to not give debt as the only place they can affect people are in PVP zones.
now if you change say arachnos guys to give no debt in a pvp zone. that would automatically make them give no debt in a PVE zone as well. Sure it could be coded around, but that would be a severe pain in the [censored].
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah. I think just about everything in the game takes hoards of programming, nature of the beast. Wouldn't you just like a little peek at the flowcharting diagrams for the game? -
I guess I wasn't being clear.
I'm not arguing about debt/xp/ratios or rationales. What I'm saying is if people are going to complain that PvPers get them debt by using MOBs in the fight, remove the debt and with it the xp.
Right now there's no xp or debt from PvP kills and no debt from drones. Beyond "I don't like it" why not just make the place 1 big penalty free/reward free free-fire zone.
This was based on the large number of posts in this thread referring to debt and griefing and does not reflect my personal views on debt which happen to be that it's a pretty weak penalty to begin with.
I'm curious if there are any logical arguments for or against such a change. Of course people will or will not like it. I'm not wondering about that at all, I'm wondering what the impact would be. -

One thing I am curious about, though, is why they just don't remove xp and debt in the PvP zones.
[/ QUOTE ]
Because it's part of the game. In particular it's part of Siren's Call. In the other PvP zones the NPCs aren't such a big deal. Siren's Call (at least on Champion) is the most popular PvP zone. So why would they change it? From the Dev's point of view it's the one that seems to be working the best.
Debt really isn't that big a deal, you work it off pretty quickly in PvE, so I don't understand what all the complaining is about.
Fight Club is an effort by players to impose rules that aren't supported by the game itself. As such it needs to be policed by players, you can't expect the Developers to do it.
If people are doing something the Devs disapprove of, they will change the game to prevent it. From they're point of view, any other ruling than the one Cuppa has give us would be a nightmare to implement.
[/ QUOTE ]
I agree with all that, but don't see what it's supposed to be saying that hasn't been said.
[/ QUOTE ]
If you can level your toon in the zone, that's a reward. You can die and receive debt in that zone too. That's the risk. Can't have one without the other.
Make better sense why now?
[/ QUOTE ]
Hence the original though, eliminate them both. Eliminate the risk and reward. It's not perfect, of course, but I think it's telling the amount of people willing to come to the thread and complain about PvP causing debt and then not comment at all should the xp portion of the equation be taken away.
