Please don't misunderstand me, I am fine for PUGs when they work well. I am even happy to join and participate in an SG/VG. However, generally speaking my only play window is 10AM - 8:30PM or so, regardless if I am soloing or grouping.

Today I tried out 3 BAFs and a lambda. The BAFs seemed very straightforward, the Lambda seemed confusing. But the PUGS came together well.

However, this is Sunday. Whether BAFs and Lambda's will CONTINUE to form quickly and easily when I log in to play during the weekday daylight hours is a BIG unknown.
  2. What are the top global chat channels to find Lambda and BAF teams forming?

but not doing it because it's a grind is complete and utter stupidity since the majority of things in this game(and for that matter MMOs) are grinds. they're only bad grinds if you allow them to be. the trials aren't by any stretch of the imagination hard(Its gotten to the point were I honestly can't decide if the devs can't make hard content or have their hands tied in doing so) and they'll only get easier with time. the time sink is very very low when you compare it to any other grind it game.
Wow, it's took a LOT of replies before we got our first standard 'insult the OP, rabidly leap to the imagined defense of the devs' style post.

I guess I better admit that if I don't enjoy Incarnate content, it's my fault because I'm stupid.

Does anyone know this guy IRL and can kick him in the nuts for me?

    Thanks.

I have *always* felt that the nukes with crashes add NOTHING to a blaster - and as blasters are my favorite AT, I have a LOT of them over the last 7 years.

I always skip the nuke (except for Archery's Rain of Arrows, which has no crash.) Almost ANY other power is more useful to me than an AoE damage power that brings my gaming to a screeching halt and puts me in the corner for a mandated time out.

(In fact, I tend to skip *most* powers that have mandatory end crashes, perhaps similar philosophies should also be applied to some of the end crashes of some of the Defensive sets like Elude.)

I am not against a penalty - but one that halts your gaming and gives you a timeout is silly.

If simply removing the crash isn't acceptable, a smarter alternative, for powers that are deemed absolutely need a crash (Elude?) would be to have it hurt the character in a way that permits them to keep fighting. Perhaps losing 1/4 of their health - which could kill you if you are already below that. Counter strategy could be to either pop a green first of ask for a heal from a teammate. Or something.

But don't have the penalty for using a power that you have to stop playing the game for a bit and sit in timeout. It's *so* annoying that most folks I know avoid using (or taking) the power altogether.

    Forum Request

With this new Incarnate stuff, it's hard to find the right place to ask questions and/or discuss it - it touches a lot of different areas of the game, from Powers, to general help, to task forces, to slotting, etc. And that's only going to get more problematic with further releases of Incarnate stuff.

I request a new Forum be opened for all Incarnate posts - perhaps under Going Rogue, perhaps under Player Help. This forum would be a great place to talk about which Incarnate to craft, or the best way to handle Incarnate missions like Lambda and BAF, to how to Incarnate advancement strategies, to everything in between.

That way we will all be able to focus without confusion on the one place on these forums we can go for Incarnate info, instead of constantly going back and forth.

A small change, but I think a big QoL improvement.

Devs, Managers, people in charge - can this be done?
  6. Is doing the BAF and Lambda the only effective ways to gain Incarnates, or is it worth doing other missions?

As I said, I am not *insisting* on soloing, but if I can't find people to *successfully* do these missions with during the times that I am on, that would be a major problem.

So part of my question to you guys is, *can* I find people to successfully do these missions with on Freedom between 10AM and 6:30PM Mon-Fri? If so, specifically *how* do I find these people? If your advice is to find an SG that operates at these imes, then I ask you to suggest to me specific SGs that do so I can check them out.

    Thanks.

I do want to point out that one of the key questions is if this can work in the *daytime* - if you check the original post, you can see I can't play at night.

    This obviously can't be solo'ed.

How would I do these 2 missions successfully every day when I only play 10AM-6:30PM EST? Are you suggesting that I can PUG it and generally NOT face mission failure, or do you know of good SGs that are active during the day instead of during the eve that I should look into joining on Freedom server?

Although, if you tend to level characters to 50 and then shelve them, that says to me that you play for the journey more than the destination, which makes it sound odd that you only care about total completion of the system.
Is it true that you can create and slot a Rare Incarnate, and later use that Rare to get you to the Very Rare? That you typically slot and use your intermediate Incarnates along the way?

Also, if I got this right, 3 of the 5 Incarnate Slots can give you a level shift. Does this mean that you can actually be a 50+3?
  12. You don't have to get them in order? The Alpha first?
  13. Which is the best and most appropriate forum on this board to post Incarnate related questions, everything from questions about the crafting of Incarnates to the methods of gaining the resource to the nature of the power rewards - is there one centralized place to talk about all of that?
  14. I have been playing his game for - well, since it was in beta, many, many years ago. I don't PvP. What I do is I pick a character idea, flesh it out, design it up in MIDS, and run it from level 1 to 50. At level 50 I shelve it and go on to the next. This is what I call serial altitis.

Now with the Incarnate System, there may be a reason for me to play these characters post 50. The Incarnate powers certainly look interesting. However, the costs in terms of hours of required gaming seem staggering, way beyond the amount of oomph you get.

Let me frame my situation, and then if you people could chime in with your opinions of whether you think that the Incarnate System would be a good pursuit FOR ME specifically.

I am a self-employed computers consultant, so I have a lot of free time. I spend each and every night with my wife, starting around 8:30PM EST. I can probably put around 10-15 hours into City weekly, mostly Mon-Fri, somewhere between 10AM and 6:30PM EST.

I have nearly unlimited INF from playing more than 20 previous characters to 50. (Well, not unlimited, two purple sets I bought made a big dent in my savings, as did a Gladiator Def IO).

I tend to solo primarily. I am a cautious player, preferring to be methodical and careful rather than take risks. I play it safe - I don't need to brag about the 'challenges' I have faced, I believe that a success at a 'weenie' challenge is valuable and that failure at a tough challenge is a waste of time. In fact, I make it a point to solo banks at -1, to ensure successful completion of the mission rewards.

I also don't collect badges, unless it somehow makes the character more powerful in a justifiable way (like some of the accolades.)

My current character I have just gotten to 50 is an Elec/SR Stalker. He has a base Def of 59% (For some of those 64% to hit baddies I heard about.)

The only Incarnate Enhancements I care about getting are the Very Rare, cream of the crop ones. I understand I think that along the way I collect the lower level ones, but my point is that I will be comparing the value of the power of the Very Rare Incarnates with the slog/grind required to get them. If getting the Very Rare ones can’t be justified, then I don’t want anything less.

I also tend to hate random rewards, especially ones that are so rare that you could conceivably do a lot of work and simply through some crap luck have it be for nothing. For example, when given the option, I would rather use more Merits on a specific Recipe rather than a lower number of Merits on a random roll that *might* give me what I am looking for.

Finally, as the above indicates, I don't want to do a mission in which we have a significant chance of failure and NO reward for our effort, simply because the devs have made it ludicrously hard. If I spend 2-3 hours on a mission, I *expect* the reward we are chasing to be more than likely (if we are not being stupid). Otherwise, it's just a random roll in disguise.

I also don't want to be spending the next twelve months trying to complete the Alpha slot. With the time I put in the game that I referenced above, I would like to be able to complete and slot a top tier Incarnate Enhancement at least every 4-6 weeks. Minimally. 3-4 weeks would be much better. 1-2 weeks would be ideal.

I am not now in a SG/VG, although I am up for it. I just don't find people on the servers when I play (10AM-6:30PM EST, Mon-Fri.) IF all other things were equal, I would probably prefer to solo to gain Incarnates simply because when ou solo other people problems and mistakes don’t so much become a problem, but if I have to, I can play nice and team, especially if I find a good group of dependable and skilled folks.

Can I participate in the incarnate system? Or is this system only for people who either play night and weekends with tons of friends, or alternatively, don't mind slogging through months and months of grind? Because I am neither of the above.

The incarnate stuff sounds cool, but it almost sounds like it is a copycat WoW grind to get them.

Do I have a real chance to participate in the Incarnate system and still have fun, as I have outlined above?

    Thanks.

PS. I REALLY REALLY want a lot of accurate feedback on this question. Since I have been playing this game since launch, I am obviously a HUGE fan. Please let me know if this isn't the right forum for this post, if posting this post in a different forum would be more effective and productive. So far as I can see, we don't have yet a dedicated Incarnate sub forum. Thanks again.
  15. I need one last badge for my Invader Accolade. To get that I need access to a Steel Canyon Mayhem Mission. (Freedom Server, Villain side of course)

Please /tell me in game (@metatron or my toon Slective Shock), or respond in this thread, I am giving 100 Million inf to the first person who gets me this if I get it fast.

    The process will be:
    1) Go in mission
    2) Get Badge
    3) Complete Bank
    4) Get Paid

Your help is appreciated, to the tune of 100 Million Inf.

Ragnarok into Waterspout was something I figured would be a good idea. I had stayed away from Apoc in Lightning Rod because I didn't want to give up the defense (1.875 AoE and Melee.)

However, with Apoc in LR, the Recharge of LR goes from 30.5 to 26 seconds, not bad, and 422 dmg versus 380 (thx to the Proc), plus I get +end, more Acc, and lots more Recharge.

My pre-Hide Def numbers drop from

    Melee: 59.7, Ranged: 59.5, and AoE: 58

    to

    Melee: 57.8, Ranged: 59.5, and AoE: 56.2

However, even when hide is busted, due to the Def IO in it it will provide another 2.35 which when factored in yields:

    Melee: 60.15, Ranged: 61.85, and AoE: 58.55

which is still awfully close. Add to that that when Hide is up, those numbers get around 3.75% better. (Except AoE which goes through the roof.) Add to that the recent claim another has made that only *some* Incarnate content has a 64% to hit.

I think I can give up .45 AoE from softcap to get the wonderful purple goodness in LR.

So thanks for that, I wouldn't have considered that.

I am trying to softcap vs incarnate content, which I believe has a 64% chance to hit, not 50%, meaning I need to hit 59% to softcap.

Which, crazily enough, I seem to have! I didn't even know it was possible!
  19. This is a stalker many of you have been helping me build. I have him up to 29 now, and I have to say that this guy is a blast! Not only is it tough for others to hit him (he's up to 40% Def without yet factoring in the yet to be taken Weave, Combat Jumping, or Maneuvers!), but I *love* Electric Melee on stalkers, I am so unused to stalkers being able to be AoE focused.

On the Citadel task force, I got a ahead of the group and positioned myself on a boss, waiting for the group to arrive and take the alpha so I could strike. But I got bored, and even though I knew it was certain death, said screw it, and attacked the boss (which was red or purple), ticking off the lieutenants and minions around him at the same time. Knowing I was going to die (but no longer bored) I went at them with everything I had.

Sixty seconds later, they were all dead. My health had dropped to 1/3, but I WON. It flabbergasted me.

Needless to say, I did that a few more times during the TF as I felt more and more comfortable saying “eff it.”

    Awesome build.

Anyways, the questions is this: Without losing Def, is there any place for purple sets in this build? I have the resources, what should I do?

  20. I need to buy the PvP IO, Gladiator's Armor TP Prot (and 3% Def), ideally level 32 or less.

I am aware that this costs a ridiculous amount of INF - and I am prepared to pay that.

Can anyone help a brother out and make a crap ton of INF for themselves t the same time?
  21. I have to say I have gotten this character to 26, and already it feels *wonderful*. My Def is up to 30-35% - and by the way, the advice on Charged Brawl over Havoc Punch was right on, CB comes back so fast it is great for chaining.

This character may not kill as fast as a brute or blaster, but he does OK on his own, and I have been noticing that in a team it is I that seem to take down bosses and whatnot.

    Fun fun!

Sounds like what you are saying is that I should get the End Redux Alpha for my incarnate? I had been going to get the Recharge one, but your concern is making me concerned.

Also, let's not forget that I can spend a blue from time to time, as well as combine to make a blue. Also, the time between fights is also a time to get more blue. But, no two way about it, to get ridiculous Def I have to run a lot of toggles. On the other hand, when not doing Incarnate missions and when facing baddies with a 50% to hit, I can simply leave certain toggles off, still be softcapped to them, and have more End.

The 'free' AS thing is in my guide. It's basically a way to pull off a full Assassination in the middle of a fight without using placate, and has to do with the fact that summoned pets (lightning rod, caltrops, waterspout) don't take you out of hide. If you pull off a Waterspout/or Caltrops>Buildup>Lightning Rod>AS without being hit, by the time your AS lands you will be back in 'hidden' status and get a full Assassination. Works best when softcapped, obviously.
Interesting, will check that technique out, sounds cool. Still, probably only going to use it with WaterSpout, not going to get Caltrops - I have never likes that power, took it and tried it on my elec/nin stalker, and still didn't like it - for whatever reason it just doesn't work or me. Still, spout is up every minute. And I don't mind a few seconds of catching my breath, both in haracter and out of character mentally.

Charged Brawl has better DPA than Havoc Punch. If you can get some more recharge in your build so that Chain induction recharges a bit faster, the chain with Charged Brawl will be better. As it is, Havoc punch works. (Make sure that when you calculate these things, you use the
I think you got cut off here. Still, you obviously know what the heck you are talking about. So consider HP out and CB in.

You don't have to get rid of Elude, it's just if you have another power you want to take, you could toss elude out for it.
The idea I could be softcapped 100% of the time or close to it to Incarnate content is mindblowing to me. I think that would be worth dropping Elude for. So Elude, Stimulant, Aid Self OUT, Boxing, Tough, Weave IN.

Plus doing that lets me get +6% from the two uniques in Tough.

I think this build may have the most Def I have ever seen.

Question, could you use the same strategy here to build a similar Scrapper or Brute?
  23. Just found the answer to my own question. If you are a hero and have:
    Atlas Medallion, +5 End
Portal Jockey, +5 End, +5% Health
    Freedom Phalanx Reserve, +10% Health

then you will automatically get the villain version of those accolades when you switch over (if you do), but at no time can you have the hero and the villain accolades at the same time.
