  1. They claim they are going to shoot the Battle of the Blackwater. So how they shoot that will probably be a good indication in what direction they are going.
  2. Damn those text based contextual misunderstandings!

Since the TV show can't be as detailed as the books it's clear they had to simplify/streamline how things are presented. Things like how the Fairies and Weres "work" had to be made much more straightforward. I doubt we'll ever see many of the side characters that helped flesh out the those cultures in the books. Also they had to rework even the main TV characters to make them fit into the abbreviated storyline. For example if they didn't make Bill the new King of Louisiana then there probably wouldn't have been much point keeping the presumably popular Stephen Moyer around as a regular cast member. For those who don't know by the sixth or seventh book Bill became such a minor character that he barely got a few pages per book.

All in all I like the TV show. But for me it's sort of like watching the "Mirror, Mirror" version of the original Sookie Stackhouse universe. I keep expecting to see Bill or Eric on-screen with an "Evil Spock" beard.
Sigh.......... I should have known not to write something like that.

I understand why the show can't be like the books. I get it. I've written here in these very forums all the reasons why the show can't be like the books, many times. I even said in my post, "I fully accept it's different". I too, love both the books and the show as related but separate entities and have read and seen them all as well. All I said was I wished Were's were more like the books. Not they ruined it. Not OMG why can't it be more like that. Not I'll quit if they don't interpret it 100% accurate. Not would someone please tell me why it's not like that. Just I wish. I just like that twist CH put on Were's and wished......not demanded the show would do that too. That's all.

Tommy is still doing stupid stuff and making Sam's life harder. Meh.
Sam is going to go off on Tommy when he finds out.

The season is really ramping up and each episode is getting better and better. Anything with lots of Pam is awesome.

I've fully accepted the changes to the show, so it's not a complaint but I wish they had the were's more like the books. (book spoilers below)

    BOOK SPOILERS........................................

I like how in the books people who've been bitten enough (it takes quite a bit) become were's but only partial were's ala the Wolfman (humanoid, walking upright, with the animals features) when they change. Only genetic were's actually turn fully into their animals. That said, I still have a feeling that we aren't done with Jason's "change".
  5. Was just about to post this myself. Great news. HBO is wise.

  9. As long as things are running smoothly, I don't let it get to me. If I'm not leading and the leader requests that the league not do something then I think it's only right to do as asked out of respect for the person that is taking the time to organize and run the league.

That said, it can sometimes go too far. I'm not a big fan of a micromanaging league leader. As long as everyone knows their roles and things get done I don't think someone should be screaming out commands every spawn, which some leaders will do. To me it's just as annoying as someone spamming gibberish or cut scene bombing. There is a fine line of being a "good leader" and being an annoying micromanaging twit. The key is someone who let's the league know how a run will go (what method) and what's expected of everyone and take the time to point out what is accepted and what isn't. Of course I'm not talking about Master runs, thats a whole other ball of wax.

Now personally when I run a league or TF I try to get all the managing out of the way from the start and answer any questions/concerns before we get started, and I'll tend to not do a lot of talking except for those important few points in the process or if someone is straying off the path too much. But that said, if I request that we do a certain thing as in regroup at point A, I do expect everyone to do that. But I always try to be fair and polite, even when I need to be stern. I almost never kick anyone though, because I usually communicate what I expect from the beginning and try to make the run as carefree and fun as possible. When I run all controller TFs or leagues I have 4 simple rules that I always give out right before we start: 1. Have Fun 2. No Drama 3. Work as a team; no lone wolves and 4. Have Fun!

Come on now......a little hyperbole maybe? "Requires"??? Pffft! HBO does have more grown up content yes. Because they can and that's where people take content that requires those sensiblities. And truth be told there is more sex in the books than in the series. I personally appreciate more realistic depictions of life than the sanitized drivel produced by most broadcast network shows.

If you've ever seen the sun rise while finishing a TF that you started at 9:00 pm.....

(My first ever Posi TF (actually my first ever TF) way back when: I2 maybe? The team broke down and only three of us were left: a tank, my FF/Psi and a pre containment fire controller but we trudged on anyway. Last mission an enemy was stuck in the geometry and we had to get support to help us. It added about an extra half hour onto what was already a 9 and a half hour task force)
  12. She's introduced later in the book as one of Renly's Kingsguard.

    SPOILERS BELOW

    You've been warned!

    One more time!

Catlyn goes to meet with Renly to try and form a truce with the North. It is there when the shadow kills Renly and Brienne is blamed and Catlyn takes her and they escape together.
  13. I think for the show they pretty much bumped the ages up a bit overall. Also I always pictured Stannis as looking gaunt and haggard compared to Robert thus making him seem older even though he's younger.

  14. Yeah I read that too, Mental Giant. I think this pic has a "Brienne quality" to it. Is she prettier than you'd expect? Absolutely (see Tyrion) but there is enough plainess in there to capture the character. The real selling point is going to be her freakish height, which is really where a lot of Briennes insecurities come from much in the same way with Tyrion. Also remember Jaime notes she has beautiful eyes.

  16. Season 2 Casting news: Semi spoilerish if you haven't read Book 2. Look at your own risk.

    Stannis and Melisandre cast.

Another article with different pics which I think are more suitable for the characters.

I don't know much about her but I loved him as Jefferson in John Adams.

Brienne of Tarth cast. And she's 6'3"!

I really like this casting. If you look around for some pics of her I really think she can pull this off well. Like Tyrion, not "ugly" like the book suggests, but in the right hands it's a great role.

  18. I could have sworn the book 4 that I just read (paperback newer printing) was a modified message where he admits its taking longer than he thought. Will go back and look after work.

Semi related, he has addressed this quite a few times and while he feels for the fan he also points out that he has a lot on his plate even outside the world of Westeros along with getting the series on HBO and I think even a house renovation and that, well, it just is what it is. But I believe he has said that he doesn't expect another delay like this one. Let's face it money talks and with the success of GoT on TV he's sold a LOT more books on this one and demand for 6 will be a lot higher than it was with his original core fan base. Let's hope its motivation enough to see The Winds of Winter sooner than later.
  19. I like saving the world and clicking on bombs.

    /e thumbs up

I'm a little torn as to what to read when I finish reading this. Read the next 4 books, or that copy of "Cryptonomicon" I picked up.
The Robert/Cersei scene was great; it spoke volumes to the true nature of their relationship and was a great job by the actors.

For me I took a break between Books 2 and 3 and read something else. The remaining books tend to be a lot more "dense" than GoT. So it might not be a bad idea to mix something else in there that will hopefully avoid burnout.
  21. Finished a Dance with Dragons yesterday. Good stuff.

  23. That's a bit vague. Do you have some condition or health problems? When you say you get "sick" do you mean stomach, head ache, (insert other ailments) and does it happen before, during or after. Being around large groups of people shouldn't do that to you unless there is something underlying or a zombie outbreak.
