Quote:You can hit multiple enemies with it?I could have done every one of the things you listed with my Nemesis Staff.
You can slot Nemesis Staff for Accuracy?
You can get Nemeis Staff to recharge as fast?
YOu can get knockback protection (3 points) from Nemesis Staff?
You can proc Nemesis Staff for a chance for recharge, or more smashing damage, or build up, hold, heal, negative energy damage, etc?
No?
And "Videos or it didn't happen?" Really? Nothing I posted is impossible, or even that big of a stretch of the imagination. I'm not soloing a level 54 AV with just Force Bolt - that sort of thing would logically have people requesting proof. *Nothing* I posted should be the least bit surprising. -
Actually, Virtualbox plays *very* nicely with Windows 8, if you want to try it in a VM.
-
So, what are we seeing for times on this?
Heroside, my Stalker's down to 8 minutes, start to finish. (Villainside was about 10 minutes, but more ambushes on the last minute... and a lower level stalker.) -
1. PM Avatea, maybe Zwillinger, and check with them.
2. Ask for escalation. They should escalate it.
Good luck. -
Honestly, I don't want all the shivans looking alike. Have the ecto-Shivans in BB (and maybe 1-2 other areas.) Have the confetti-shivans in GC. Have them hit somewhere like Eden, have something that looks more plant-like (hmm, what would they do with a DE?) Oceanic shivans, look ... well... moist.

Quote:Quite obviously not a dev - and I should really do this as a copy paste, I seem to be saying it a lot lately.I would love to know how they have coded it to make it so integral to the character that it can't be changed, ever.
*points down to guides in sig* Down there, guide to the early COH trailer, should also have links to thinks like Internet Archive of the COH site, and of... origins.
Early on, Origins (they create worlds... wait, that's the old development house...) had a huge impact - there were more of them, and they determined both how MANY powers you could select and how FAR you could upgrade/enhance them.
That, of course, got scrapped when they found out how broken the "freeform selection" was. So, we got Origins as we have them now, along with AT and powersets.
I *suspect,* though, that when they stepped away from that system, they didn't completely rewrite character creation from scratch. But if you think about how much effect old-origin would have had on a character, you'd see why it would be in on such a fundamental level on characters now - even though it doesn't do that much. Whether it was just from not thinking about it, or just having a changeable origin *break* so much even then that it would be a lot of work (and now, a decade of added patches, rewrites, systems, etc.) I suspect it's just so tied into so many possible systems it's just too big of a risk (or too much work) to let be changed.
Frankly, I'd love to hear from a dev to see if I'm anywhere close to the mark in that guess or not. -
Quote:The flip side of this is what keeps me out of most games. I actually liked Aion in general - I thought it did all right with the PVPVE model (but then again, fewer classes, bit easier to balance like that) until (a) you *needed* to PVP to finish quests, (b) it got to be "raid to get the gear to raid to get the gear, and don't bother if you're not near top level," (c) the grind to pay for skills (which drives me up the wall,) and (d) I got tired of "If you're lucky, you can take down TWO enemies. After time. Unless one runs back and is immune while healing up to full health. And don't look sideways at an Elite, he'll kill you with a sneeze."CoH literally throws mobs are you in droves. You can fight upwards of 15 mobs at at time, and with proper inspiration usage, or buffs/debuffs you can always come out ahead. WoW, your lucky if you can take on 4 even level mobs without them taking you out pretty quick like.
COH... yeah. Get in, get piled on, come out, dust yourself off and find another spawn. You actually feel *powerful.*
Quote:Very true! This used to be something he really loved about CoH when he first started playing. The feeling that you are a super-powered hero pretty much from the start made CoH a unique MMO experience. Unfortunately, the Issue 4 nerfs and ED left him bitter. His beloved regen scrapper became a toon he hated to play anymore thanks to the changes to Instant Healing. Say what you will about how "overpowered" it used to be, he liked it that way, just like he (well, most of us) liked tankers that could tank an entire room's worth of mobs without needing a healer on hand to keep them alive. We always felt that the way to make the game challenging was not to nerf the powers, but to make the mob A.I. better. But, of course, nerfing is just much easier to implement.
And yet, you can still do all the content with SOs. (Example - latest Alpha unlock for me = Sonic/Sonic Defender. On SOs.)
Still, if he can't see past the "big number" (level cap) and is only going to use that as a yardstick, instead of approaching the game for its own merits... *shrug8 yeah, might be a lost cause. Still, have him keep the free (or actually, as an ex subscriber, premium) going. Can't hurt to nudge him back from time to time. And there may be something else (a powerset, the market, etc.) that brings him all the way back. -
Quote:Well, they *Have* been fairly clear (as far as simple, overall statements - because do you REALLY want technical details on server upgrades? I'm pretty sure they'd make most people fall asleep for eight to twelve hours by page 3...) on what they're doing. Hardware upgrades/replacement. Today involved physically *moving* the servers, among other things. Also, a little more clarity on this topic would also be appreciated. While we don't need to know technical details, keeping us in the loop is not a bad thing either.
Now, the one gripe I have seen that I *will* agree with is that they need all this in one place - not a bit here, a bit on Twitter, a bit on Facebook and a bit on Ustream. -
Quote:I play at these hours, and I'm fine with it, but then again, I (a) know the sort of thing that goes into upgrades like this, and (b) know it's for the long-term performance of the game.Just because some of you do not play at these hours doesn't make it ok for those that do, such as the EU players.
Honestly, regular business PCs that don't get hit like the servers are given a 3-4 year life cycle at most before replacement. Given the plans for the game (and when's the last time we had server upgrades like this? I believe we're looking at a few years,) it's due. -
Quote:I didn't find it particularly inconvenient.why does everyone, when you ask for compensation assume to break it down into a dollar figure? I PAID 30 days. give me 30 days. Hell for all the inconvience they should credit everyone with an extra week game time.
(A) no, they don't owe you anything.
(B) They may do something nice anyway, but expect it to be more an in-game thing. 2xp weekends, events, etc. if they do anything.
(C) Given that the end result of this is to be more capable servers, I'd call "Long term capacity and stability at the cost of short-term downtime right now" ample compensation, IMHO. -
Quote:I think the bigger concern is the SOs that seem to be dropping like rain in the tropics on lower levels. What will you ever do if you can't get those level 3 range TO drops?
I don't believe you can trade/email these. -
Quote:FF/Bots.PS I'll add that the Stalker version of Energy Aura burning down its cottage gives me hope for Repulsion Field and Force Bolt yet. While I don't really care if the powers still throw enemies around, if they are going to do that there needs to be some reason why throwing them around is actually beneficial. Maybe I'm just a bad player but until I see a video of someone actually using Force Field's knockback powers as part of a legitimate long term strategy that rivals competing sets I'm more inclined to believe in the existence of the yeti. The One Time someone had to knockback a boss does not count; I already do that with the Nemesis Staff. I wish there was a temp power to replace what is in other support sets.
My bots are squishy for quite some time. I don't want something coming up to melee them.
Force Bolt. *bam* Now no longer melee.
My Defender is squishy. Tank loses aggro, something chases me.
Force bolt. *Bam* Enemy is now back in with the tank.
My Controller puts down an ice slick/volcanic gasses/etc. Something's not in it. Force bolt - they are.
And before you say Repulsion field or Force bubble do that - Force Bolt does it far earlier.
As for repulsion field - it's better paired with some sets than others. If I don't want stuff in melee and I'm running fairly high settings, but I don't want them shoved back as far as Force Bubble - Repulsion Field fits the bill.
I don't see what's so difficult about that. -
-
Because you want to.
Seriously, nose out of the spreadsheets and just make a *character* to have fun with. -

Quote:Well, I wouldn't actually worry over much about this - after all, for quite some time, Windows Vista and Windows 7 weren't "officially" supported - and XP, IIRC, isn't "officially" supported outside of some business licenses any longer from MS.Hm. Was this the only notice that today would be that day? If so, that seems really sucktastic for people who might have been affected.
I remember some mention that this would happen eventually, but I am not a Mac user, so I don't recall if there was any mention of a cutoff date. -
Since it's an existing MARTy thread...
Account 1:
Pinnacle - IP - Warshade, blues/greens, no MARTY message on login, no throttle
Victory - Talos - Blaster - blues/greens, no MARTY message on login, no throttle
Exalted - Dom - SC - no mesasge.
Account 2:
Exalted - Brute, First Ward - got some awards (5 more salvage, 5 more recipes, 2 more transactions, Distinguished badge) - MARTY throttle message, message about auction house, MARTY "no longer throttling." Got rewards for kills. -
Quote:Noting, again, this is currently "Developer Preview," so not even really "public beta" - or anywhere close to release...This leaked beta must not be behaving well.
Desktop windows 8 will look and function very much like 7.
(though I must admit, 8, booted faster than 7, so heres hoping 8 will be another great OS)
The Metro thing is basically windows 8 in 'tablet' mode.
It doesn't look or function like Windows 7 at this point, by default. Going to a non-Metro app flips you over to the desktop. There's no start menu - the "start" button flips you back to the Metro UI (and you have *no* idea how irritating that is.)
I'm assuming (yeah, I know) MS will put in an option to disable the Metro UI complettely in the release (and later beta) versions. Because on a desktop PC... that thing is *irritating as hell.*
If you ARE running the developer release, you have to make a registry change:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer
Change RPEnabled to 0 (to disable Metro) or 1 (to reenable it.) It doesn't, IIRC, even require a restart... but with it disabled, it's essentially windows 7. They will be having other technology support natively in Win8 (and there's talk of requiring UEFI, various "trusted" components, etc, noted mostly because it may cause issues for those that dual boot to other OSes - we'll see how that works out. The dev. release doesn't care - works in VirtualBox just fine.) -
Quote:No, they aren't.My company has good track record when it comes to customer service because the customer is always right.
If your customer came up and said "I deserve everything you make, free," are they right? Do you just hand over the keys to the warehouse and rent a truck for them?
Or are they... oh... *not right?*
Extreme example, but if the customer was "always right," that's what you'd do - and you'd then be out of business in a month. -
Quote:So...EU players have effectively lost 3-4 days (peak-time) from a 31 day paid for monthly subscription this month.
From what I understand much of this work is to get the infrastructure in place for when Free to play launches?. Which is of zero benefit to me as a paying subscriber. F2P is just a way for the devs to try to make more money by expanding it's customer base.
In reality what this will mean for the paying subscriber is an increased server loads resulting in more lag in game when f2p arrives along with the influx of new players and throwaway accounts..
Devs, at least stop treating us like all this work is necessary and for the benefit of the already existing paying customer base, because it's not. Unless of course you all plan on giving vip subscibers a small commision on all monies your going to make from future f2p related sales..
We pay real money not silly paragon points to play this game.. Compensation of some kind would be most welcome please.
Expanded server hardware that can handle more players is of no benefit to paying customers? Do you *really* believe that? That once the "shakedown" of the new hardware is done and we can deal with less lag, etc. will be of zero benefit?
The hardware upgrades will benefit *everybody.*
You mention increased server loads. Now stop and think... just *why* would they, maybe, possibly, have decided to upgrade hardware? Perhaps, just maybe, to *handle* those increased server loads?
Nah, crazy thought.
Go ahead and complain. Like I said earlier, I'm missing time, too - this *is* my "prime time." But think about what they're doing, and what they've BEEN doing, and what might be involved before saying much of what's been said in this thread. This is not a fast job - servers never are. And, like it or not, it *is* better for them to do this sort of thing in stages. Frustrating for us when inter-hardware communication glitches, or hardware itself has an issue, causing lag and other server downtime, absolutely - but three months from now, nobody will even remember this. -

Quote:I think you make too many assumptions. And to all those no offense, but and with all due respect, but people, that´s easy to say while your gametime isn´t affected that much, but you´d sure as hell you´d be pissed too if you had the short stick (again).
So, no offense and with all due respect, but I think you´re hypocrits on this.
Right now, while the servers are down, *IS* my primary game time. And I am NA. And no, I'm not pissed about "having the short end of the stick." When they come up, I'll be at work. When I'm done with work, most of my friends will be heading to sleep so they can be up when THEY work.
So do stop trying to assume your impatience is what everyone feels. For one, I've *done* some of what they're doing, and for another, *IT'S A GAME.* Not a vital service.
And, seriously, you want them to schedule workers around *European* time? You don't think they've had people in *earlier* preparing for this move BEFORE the downtime? Just how early do you want them in, and how much overtime (assuming they're not salaried, which makes "Come in at midnight" suck EVEN MORE) would you care to pay them?
Sheesh. You'd think someone's life depended on COH being up 24/7. How dare they make hardware upgrades and changes! And do it over time so they can watch for problems as they occur before the next stage, instead of doing it all at once, keeping the game down *longer* and making problems just that much *harder* to track down... -
Yeah... my Stalkers are going to *love* this arc.
Level 15 (and change) Stalker. 10 or so minutes. 13 kills total = level 16 and a villain merit. Another 13 kills, 10 minutes or so. Another villain merit. So, at level 20, I can expect to be able to turn those in for a *very* tidy nest egg... and I'll be reaching 20 pretty darn fast if I run this again.
Heroside it's a little more hectic - you don't have a choice to not kill anyone in the first mission, apparently (have to look again,) the second has some ambushes that seem to come much quicker (of course, they are Igneous.) It's going to take longer.
Still, I do think something's off with being able to beat on the Lost EB at the end with no risk just by having hover or fly and ranged attacks. My Khelds love this, thanks. -
Quote:PBs (pre-I13) were generally respectable in PVP. I'd held off mobs of villains in Dwarf, and had a longstanding rivalry with a certain Stalker over on Pinnacle. Some of my favourite moments in PVP were on that character - and also some of the more frustrating, going toe to toe with a brute and neither one of us being able to kill... me, mostly because of having only a few attacks and not enough recharge (this is before IOs existed.)Yeah, I PvP'd with my PB. This was back when teleport other was GOD and they would pull you into geometry + caltrops + mines + whatever. As soon as I heard that rumbling, I'd hit quantum flight, do some emotes and laugh as they all stood around shaking their fists in fury. Yeah, I never killed anything but still. The times I got close to death, I'd just hop into dwarf and if it got really bad, teleport around.
