What can I say, I've always liked mine. And far prefer them to the VEATs in general. (No opinion about hybrid, I'll let people more deeply into Incarnates worry about that.)

Yeah... looking at that login screen, I get "Reference to Longbow" right away from the waist down. But Vanguard? I don't see it, at least in that piece. And in the WWD funeral shot, again, what we saw (as the "mystery girl") *screamed* Longbow special NPC to me. Vanguard came to mind about as obviously as Devouring Earth or COT.

I can understand not going with all black and red - despite Longbow SpecOps having that (kinda sorta - more dark red, I think, than black, IIRC) it's generally perceived as a "villain" combination.

The outfit kind of brings a comment back to me that a friend in high school made, talking about me vs. another mutual friend and our cars. He said he preferred my view on things, since I took the whole car into account, while the other person was more into the pieces - "ooh, cool rims, ooh, nice piece here" whether or not they all "worked" together. And that's kind of Penny Yin (and I can't say that without starting into Penny Lane in my head) and her outfit, I think. Lots of "ooh, neat" pieces, but no coherent whole.

The popup tray is supposed to be for things like the temp powers in the Lambda facility. However, going to forms has it fill in with that form's powers - and worse yet, for this bug, with duplicates (something you can't do in other trays.) F'rinstance, my PB's Dwarf form has a tray going something like Smite - Strike - Stomp - Stomp - Smite - Heal - Taunt - Strike - Heal - Heal - taunt.... which means if I ran a Lambda, I'd have no room for the temp powers.

Plus, at this point, you can't *remove* those powers from that tray. ("real" temporary powers, of course, you can just delete.)

Nova had the two ST blasts, and two copies of the AOEs. And my humanform had two of the vet pets.

It's probably just "Khelds being weird" again, kind of like when adding inherent fitness goofed up Khelds and Doms for a bit on beta. They've got time to fix it.

    Edit:
So you can see how it looks as I go between forms (other khelds had other powers showign in here, but all had the various form powers)

... but like I said, they have time to fix it. Stuff like *this* doesn't tend to make it out of beta broken.
  6. More info needed:

Where are you? Character creator, tailor, trainer?
    Any invalid parts?
    Can you load a costume?
  7. Wait, 1 second recharge? NERF! I can't believe they did that! That's going to *completely* ruin my Khelds! This is a slap in the face! With another face! WARRRRRGarbl!!!

... because someone had to have a fit over it, so I might as well get the non-serious one in and out of the way.

Edit: Small problem with kheld forms and the popup tray though... bugged. >.<

For me, at least, it's nice to be able to hop between them. I get burned out on an individual character if I'm pushing on them. The alts tend to help with that.

In any case, goals help. THey don't have to be major - and I don't know how your alts are, I'm talking from my own standpoint (300+ characters, two accounts) here.

    1. Go with the goals.

... and not just the long term ones. Sure, one of every AT to 50, etc. helps - did it myself. But so does "No alt on this server under 14." (And just keep bumping that number up.)

Find goals you like. I *do* like "one of every AT to 50." But having done that, I was working on "One of every control set." Just about had it too, then they brought out Electric. And now Dark... Or try "One of every buff/debuff" (which falls nicely in line with altitis because you're not stuck with "just" a defender - you can hop around to a corruptor, controller or MM.) Keep them in line - "All these at 20." "All the control sets to 30" and so forth, 'til they're 50.

    2. Reward yourself.

OK, maybe the 50 is a reward. Me, I tend to get artwork done of my 50s. (Admittedly I get it done of *non* 50s when I get into the character, as well, but the 50s are a treat.) Find something you like for finishing the big goals.

    3. Get with a group.

Not necessarily a SG. Get some people together into a "superteam" that meets once a week/month/whatever to run some missions. Join one of the events or one of the big SGs (f'rinstance, there's the Kheldian Fridays on Protector, or the Legion of Catgirls having their weekly task force - which really gave some of my lingering alts a boost.) Check out that particular server's events and channels. Remember, while you're trying to get to 50, you don't have to do it *RIGHT NOW.* Enjoy the other alts, but schedule time with your project alt.

    4. Stick with it.

That project alt, I mean. Don't slack off running its "designated time." But don't let it feel like work, either.
  9. Re: Staff fighting staff, fighting staff staff

Unfortunately it appears this message got misdirected. This is the staff fighting staff fighting stuff department, subsection staff staff fighting staff stuff. We've stuffed the staff's staff stuff in closet 3c until this is resolved, however the staff fighting staff and staff stuff staff feel a bit of a loss of direction without their staff stuff.

    Please advise.
  10. I don't know what you're talking about. Statescrotch? Bear head? Mine looks like this:

I don't have a problem beating other people in a competitive much, to the extent that I don't feel guilty, even when it's clear I'm unfairly superior to them. What I have a problem with, however, and ESPECIALLY when I hand someone his *** for the fifth time in a row, is that I can't help but see myself in the same situation.
I was going from earlier comments that sounded exactly like that (in their own words,) just to be clear.

And honestly, if I'm beating someone over and over again, they're also getting tells from me - for instance, some time back (given how (in)active the zones are) I had a blaster of some flavor - AR, I believe - attack my Thug/Poison MM in... IIRC, it was a lowbie, so probably Bloody Bay. Now, to be fair, just from having more powers (and thanks to SSKing, all tiers of pets - that really needs disabling in PVP zones, IMHO) it was a mismatch. He was, at best, on DOs or low level IOs.

IIRC, I checked the badges and saw it was a fairly new player, so I told him he'd just keep having trouble, explained how masterminds and bodyguard worked, asked if he had any AOEs (he didn't) and how that would work to his advantage - plus how to set up a second build. Yeah, he died several times, but he did learn and I'm fairly sure if he stuck around the game he'd probably stick his nose back in the zones. (I alt so much on every server that I have no idea if he has or not. Don't even recall his name.)

Even if I'm on the losing side and the other side isn't talking to me, I'm learning something about their capabilities and my own. Even if I lose 5x in a row.

You meantion you'll fight "less hard" - ok, to a point, I can see it, but to me that's really doing *everyone* a disservice. If I'm having a hard time mountain climbing, I need to work on my climbing and technique, build strength and endurance, lose weight - I don't need the mountain bulldozed down.

I like PvE because in there, no-one ever loses. Well, OK, sometimes we do, but I do my best to avoid failable missions, and to drop them or "cheat" whenever I do. And when I say no-one loses, I don't praise this because I want other people to not lose. I praise it because I don't want I!!! to be the one who loses.
See... that's one of the things we'll disagree on. I'd *love* to see more places in PVE that we can fail - or where even the best outcome is a draw. The Terra Conspiracy, for instance. Or not being able to save your clone in Jenny Adair's arc. Or, the one we had a lot of arguing over, the WWD SSAs.

It has to be a legitimate fail, though. Not "Stop So-and-so from escaping!" when they're five feet from the door, so you enter the mission and auto-fail or they escape as you step off the elevator. Sometimes just a fail, more fun, though, if you have a way of winning but it's not just a gimme (like most missions are.) (I happen to like the "Stop 30 Fir Bolg from escaping" mission, for instance, and try to see how close to zero escapes I can get - I've hit zero quite a few times.)

Griefing is a fact of any game, I'm not trying to deny that, but not many games actively encourage it by rewarding it. Lineage II does, yeah, but that game is evil.

What I'm saying is that the PvE game in City of Heroes is not in any way competitive. In fact, going out of your way to compete with people in the few ways you can usually makes your own rewards WORSE. The game does whatever it can to make sure people almost not interact with each other in PvE. You can't attack others, you can't take others' drops, you can't enter others' missions and you generally don't gain anything for being better than anybody else. It caters an environment which rewards you for being helpful and stiff you for trying to compete. That what's bred such an easy-going community.

That wasn't to say PvP is evil, but it IS competitive, and competitive games breed a wholly different kind of community. Not better, not worse, just wholly different. You can't expect to "win" at a competitive game without being very good, because that's missing the point of the game. You CAN expect to win at a PvE game without being very good because the game isn't trying to be challenging so much as it's trying to be entertaining. City of Heroes happens to be entertaining, and I personally take great comfort in being able to "win" without being very good. And when I can, there are always people offering to "win" one for me, because they're rewarded and because they stand to lose nothing more than the time it takes to help me.
OK. *THAT* makes more sense than how what you were saying came out (at least to me.)

Though I still think some people just can't make the mental jump from "PVE works this way, and that behaviour is bad" to "This is PVP, and him preventing me from doing X is perfectly acceptable, because he's supposed to stop me." Honestly, I find "X stopped (defeated) me in PVP" to *be* helpful - because I can find out what I did wrong, or what they did right - and yes, sometimes it *does* come down to just blind luck and the will of the RNG gods.

Personally, I'm still completely unable to grasp the "I can't compete because it means someone else will lose and feel bad." I mean, not only is that an assumption (I don't feel bad when I lose, for instance, you'll usually get a "gg" or "nice" from me,) but I have to wonder just at what point that tips in. Is it all competition? Sam, you've said you don't go for sport. How about board games? Card games? Tic-tac-toe? Or Lady Grimrose's comment:
    Quote:
I will not PvP because someone, a real person, has to lose and the guilt/frustration will be there. I do not play CoH for Stress, I play it for fun.
I have to ask... *who" has the guilt or frustration she is talking about - the person defeated, or her for winning? And again - at what point, what level of competitiveness, does this kick in?

When helping others costs nothing, it just makes sense to help. When you never view other players as competition but rather as potential help, it just breeds a more friendly community.

"At worst, people in City of Heroes can be indifferent?"

Please open your Options menu. Note the prompt option to accept teleport. That was not put there from "indifferent" being the worst people in PVE could be. That was from people inviting lowbies to teams and dropping them from tall buildings into mobs of enemies. Note this was occurring pre-PVP.

Elsewhere in the forums, for something more recent, is someone talking about a group griefing their hami raid.

Or there's the "helpful" high levels that have "helped" lower levels that didn't need it by making sure any and all enemies in their way were defeated, minimizing if not eliminating the XP for that lowbie. Yes, you can "duck into an instance," but that doesn't mean this deliberate griefing doesn't occur.

Or there's the people who insist on spamming the help channel - "How do I fly" seems to be a popular question, with the same person getting specific answers and acknowledging them, just to ask a minute later, and again, and again, and again, making the channel useless for as long as they're on.

PVE is not all sweetness and light, just like PVP - despite how some people want to describe it (and it seems due to their own dislike of competition) - is not a bunch of satan-worshipping, puppy-kicking, baby eating evil mass murderers out to "ruin" your day.
  14. Demons - Yeah. At least the cone.
    Thugs - Dual Wield.
Necro - Life drain typically fits the character I play. Plus Gloom is a DOT - which I tend to like for interrupting things like Comm officers and Raider Engineers (say, second group aggroing and the pets are busy.)
Beast - Plenty of -fly. Which, unless you're taking Group Fly...

Look at the size of the Natterling - even the biggest ones are pretty small.

Then look at the size of the character and how close they are.

My guess? They're screwing with you via perspective. Just because it's a "huge" character doesn't mean it's 8' tall.
  17. Even with a pile of vet respecs (and using dual builds,) I'm rather happy to see these coming. They're the most convenient of any respec - no need to burn a token or go anywhere in particular, just /respec and do whatever tweak you're looking at (assuming you're not in a mission.)

Only thing that would make me happier is a partial-undo respec for up to the last 5 powers or the ability to move slots.
  18. All the servers are in the same location (Texas.) You'll hear about "East" and "West" and "European" servers - that's a bit of a holdover from when they were split up.

As far as "most active," wellllllll.... busiest tend to be Freedom, Virtue, and typically Infinity (though that spot changes a bit.) All the servers have their own personalities, though. They're listed from last on, then lowest to highest load (not necessarily population) at the time.

Personally, I tend to call Pinnacle and Victory my "home," though I'm spending a bit more time on Infinity and Guardian these days as well. Virtue tends to be seen as the RP server, though it's not typically picky about it (or odd outside pocket D. Just a lot of parenthesis use.) Exalted is the VIP server... so it'll be greyed out for you, judging from the way your forum name looks.

Oh well, repetition is a good thing!
Yeah. Think I've always stayed to scrap it out. About the only time (in a team) I'd pull back is if we had a nasty boss in the next group and we had the original re-hide timer - just so I'd be ready to jump in to the next fight.

The shorter Hide timer really removed that need, too.

.... of course, I also found charging into all-Rikti Drone groups fun, too. See if I could hit them before they hit me.

    CTI Dreamer: by Taclobanon.
Ignia Elemenia : Fire/fire blaster. Started by Khepera, concept taken and really run with by Graver
Exile (the 3 panel) - Seeker209, Materra, Sinister Nova (and you can see the shadows from the next character in the background of each) - by Bakart

We stopped and talked for a second, when someone in the high end of the forties hopped out of a nearby sewer entrance, and rand off. My friend told me we should move, because there's probably an ambush coming for them, and she was right, it was a pack of what I would later learn are Marauder's demolition crew.

I never saw that mission, or that ambush, when I got any of my characters to 50.
Yeah - though I'm not sure it exists NOW with the Hero's Hero revamp. (Actually, it may have been one of her one off missions.)

And as mentioned - I don't think I've ever actually seen the ambush either, for that or low level missions. Maybe once since I started at best?

Actually had my MA/Regen Stalker go up against a MA/Regen Scrapper once - a good, solid ten minutes of trying to get any advantage over the other. I loved that fight - and after that it was mostly /em bow and head our separate ways.

Then there are the "you can't win" fights ... when someone's proven wrong. Same stalker vs a tank (stone, IIRC.) Which finally went quickly.
