  1. I'll point back to my prior reply. What I do depends on what's broadcast.

Some general-knowledge bit someone might ask (again, "How/when do I get a cape," "Where's the tailor," I'll rebroadcast a reply, since there may be others who'd want to know.

Others, where a /t in reply is more appropriate, get one.
  2. Depends on team size, and which missions.

Last Kheld arc (45+) you're guaranteed of some, since they're part of the storyline. Same with various Cimerora arcs. (Well, newspaper missions and the ITF.)

It's far more inconvientnet to have to log in and out to go get a glass of water or a pop tart then it is to go to the login screen when you want to swap characters.

There have been plenty of people who pop up in the Tech Support forum to complain about deleted toons even with the setup we have now.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Uh you would still have the option to stay logged in to go get that poptart.

The rest of us would have the option to log out to character select.

    [/ QUOTE ]

... at which point little brother/drunk friend/etc. decides to modify or delete them, which they can't do now because they'd need a password.

How is this a hard concept?

It's not "having this many people gunning for their precious accounts," nor is it paranoia. It IS, by the way, from real life examples - y'know, "experience." It's just plain common sense. Why make a system less secure than it is now? Why risk INCREASING customer service's workload, which does mean money and increased time responding to OTHER issues? Why wish increasing customer dissatisfaction when they find out they can't get their newly-kid-deleted character back RIGHT NOW?

Live with the 30 seconds. Sheesh.

/unsigned. It can get annoying, but sometimes you want to broadcast something to the whole zone while in the AE buildings.

    [/ QUOTE ]
OK, so obviously this is a very unpopular suggestion. I'll just move the broadcast channel to another tab, problem solved.

But enlighten me, please, what amazingly valuable nuggets do you feel compelled to broadcast from within the AE, other than the LFT/LFM messages which should either be done via Local or via tells after searches?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Answering questions asked in broadcast by people outside of the AE building.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    This, generally.

Yes, it can be done via /tell, but for some questions - well, if one person has it, others may as well, so you may as well broadcast back. (Or someone may remember it later when they need to know - like "Where's the tailor" or "How do I get a cape," preventing them from asking it.)
  5. [ QUOTE ]
Honestly, any of these proposed "incidents" would be rare at best. And why would you leave your computer unattended in the vicinity of someone you apparently can't trust to begin with? Seems to me these fictional victims have bigger problems.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    You don't trust your family?

You can *guarantee* your SO, kid, whoever, would NEVER do something just in a fit of anger they wouldn't otherwise do? Or some kid's sibling - who, being family, generally you would trust - wouldn't do it "because it's funny" or "I don't like that character?"

You've never had a family member or someone close to you take, change, or use something of yours without asking first, or because of whatever reason they'd felt at the time? Ever?

Again - if you think it'd be "barely a blip on the radar" WITH the option, well, it's an even smaller chance now where you need to put in the account and password. Why INCREASE the likelyhood?

    Cape Question

The Arachnos cape unlocks at 20 after doing the regular cape mission, as does the Cape of Four Winds (COH CE.)

The others, as they're specifically part of costume packs, are available right away.
  7. [ QUOTE ]

And Billy, Billy Billy Billy, I'm glad you support this suggestion, but I'd prefer you return me to your ignore list. We will likely disagree again in the future, and I'd simply prefer not to receive any more psychotic/whiny PMs from you. Thanks!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Just so you can't twist or portray this as anything else, I'm going to say this here:

You were temporarily placed on ignore at the time specifically because of nonsense like this. Not because of disagreement, but because of deliberately choosing phrasing and wording to goad. I have no problem with those disagreeing with me on issues - I've disagreed with CobaltConstable here, for instance, or Jack_Nomind, and argue almost constantly with EvilGeko. It's the manner they do so in that makes the difference.

After a while, as irritation and rhetoric fade, I tend to take most people *off* of it, since *most* people end up with something worthwhile to say more often than not. Yes, including you. There are very few people - and no, I'm not naming any - who have shown they're just not worth taking off of it at all.

I'll put you back on ignore if you wish. I'll only request that in return you do the same to me, given your comments quoted above. "Put your money where your mouth is," so to speak.

Is your level listed in the real numbers "Powers" pop-up? I know your current Influence/Infamy is, but can't remember if your level is.....

    [/ QUOTE ]

Not the last time I looked. XP to level, yes, level, no.
  9. [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
when you create a character after getting those packs, you have access to those capes from the start and don't have to wait till level 20, I believe that's what BuckeyeStar was getting at anyhow.

Also, when you buy the Mission Architect box, it comes with a free code that you get to choose either the Magic or Cyborg Booster Packs. Pick the Magic one and there ya go, you have high collar capes at level 1 with no Vet Rewards obtained.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I don't have either so I can't verify it on a toon, but thats pretty messed up that you can pre 20. I do recall seeing ppl running around mercy with capes pre 20 so I'm pretty sure you're correct on that regardless.

    [/ QUOTE ]

You get them because you paid specifically for them. (Or, again, they're rewards.) The only paid-for capew you don't get at level 1 are the CE capes (Arachnos/Four winds.)
  10. If you're in an SG, check the SG screen.
You can always /t yourcharactername, $level.
/whoall, if you're not hidden, will give both character and security level (trained and untrained,) though it will be off if you're SK'd/Exemped. And it'll show you everyone ELSE not hidden in the zone, too.
  11. [ QUOTE ]
This whole idea of having to log back in with your password being considered "protection" is a farce.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    [ QUOTE ]

People I know have shared their passwords with girlfriends and the minute they break up, their toons vanish.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Imagine how difficult that would be if they didn't share the password. Or any of the other situations mentioned here. No annoyed brother/SO/etc seeing the game running and deciding to delete everything. Situations that, yes, HAVE been mentioned in the past.

    [ QUOTE ]
How often would any of these proposed incidents occur? Not often enough to even be blip on customer services' radar. Besides, they can actually restore your deleted character.

    [/ QUOTE ]

And by requiring logging out to an area that requires your password, it's even less of an issue, and even fewer restorations end up getting requested, freeing CS to take care of other petitions. Besides, the times I *do* hear of getting a character restored, the person who gets it done talks about weeks of waiting.

Requiring a password = no waiting, since the character is not deleted unless you *chose* to give the person your password.

What would you rather have to do - wait 30 whole long, agonizing seconds to log back in, or wait weeks and hope you get your character back?
  12. We don't know what it will bring.

Sit tight and wait. Given its mention of switching over, morality meters and all, plus being an *expansion* as opposed to an issue, I'd expect to see things at most or all levels.
  13. [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
They'd have to base the number on the arc length. Otherwise, eventually, we will have a 1 mission dev choice arc, which would be farmed to death for merits.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, I'm sure that the Dev's wouldn't choose an MA arc like that.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Why not, if it's an exceptional mission?

They'd likely have some criteria if they did so. Say, a base of 1 merit per mission. 1 extra for "Long" or "Very long" arcs, another for having 1-3 AVs or some such. Or, do what they've shown they do with "official" missions and set them individually.
  14. [ QUOTE ]

For starters if you think your family would go around deleting your toons then your family...well they're not all that bright. Secondly why are they in your room bothering your computer? Finally there's a switch user function for PCs that wouldn't require you to log off your account. Try using a password.

Again personal stupidity is no reason not to have a log out to character screen function.

There are ways around every excuse you can throw. I've been playing MMOs since UO and I haven't once had anyone in my own home attempted to delete or even play my toons. Likewise I always switch to user login when I leave the room anyway.

    Learn to use your pc.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Um - wow.

Family is *family.* Little brother gets annoyed at you, you have to go to the bathroom, little brother decides to mess with characters.

    That's not "they're not bright."
    That's not "you're stupid."
That's not "Learn to use your PC" (and if it were MY PC in MY room, why would I have other user accounts on it to switch TO?)

    [ QUOTE ]

I've been playing MMOs since UO and I haven't once had anyone in my own home attempted to delete or even play my toons.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I haven't ever once owned a Ferrari. Therefore, nobody does, and I don't believe the company even exists.

I've flown an airplane, so absolutely everybody has as well and knows what it's like. (Not flown in, flown.)

I have three brothers and one sister, so that's what everyone's family is like (despite how impossible that is.)

Oh, you mean my own, personal experience isn't the exact same as everybody else's? Imagine that.

You have to wait a whole 30 seconds, and that protects your characters and account. Deal with it.

Um, why don't you just go to the Arena?

Really, how is the Arena going to get more use by adding an Arena kiosk nowhere near an Arena?

What's the matter with actually using the Arena?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Flipside of this -

Why is there no option to go to a PVP-specific area to quickly run, say, a duel (another PVP option) from a PVP zone?

It's a matter of convenience for those interested in PVP.
  17. [ QUOTE ]
I've got this great new idea and I'm shocked this has never been suggested before!

PLEASE add arena terminals in each of the pvp zone hospitals.

This will be a HUGE QoL improvement and increase the use of the arena.

Allowing players who fight in the zones to create fair and even arena matches when they want to will be great for the pvp environment in this game.

With DR, they might as well add an inspiration store to go with each terminal too.

    Please!

    Thank you.

    [/ QUOTE ]

It has, in a way, been suggested - not specifically in hospitals that I recall, but similar things have been suggested. The location makes sense, though.

And as always for this - /signed.

(The issue I have with inspirations in PVP zones isn't making things "fair" or "unfair" - because if they're available to everyone, well... but that they, of all things, make suppression kick in. Or at least they used to, but I don't recall that being changed since. Makes little sense to me.)
  18. There is a "Hood" option for all characters to begin with, with three varieties. You can mix this with any cape (which yes, you will do a misison at 20 for.)

I'm *reasonably* sure the high collar option is available on females as well - the Baron jacket is not (females get Bolero instead.)
  19. [ QUOTE ]
If you are playing the game in an environment where your system can be compromised, you probably shouldn't be playing the game there at all.

    [/ QUOTE ]

So don't play the game unless you have a secure room to which only you have the key, and only you have access to the computer? Disallow installation on any laptop?
  20. [ QUOTE ]
How in the world could logging out to char screen be a security hazard?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Kid sibling/irritated significant other/drunk friend catches it and deletes all your 50s.

Option 1: Let CS sort it out.
Option 2: Disallow it and prevent the problem in the first place.

    They went with option 2.

The OPs biggest mistake was thinking he good trust the evil number 8 in the first place.

Eight, eight, the burning hate, a day between Sunday and Monday so dark it will devastate....

    [/ QUOTE ]

Just remember. Figure 8 is double four. Figure 4 is half of eight. If you could skate, you would be great if you could skate a figure 8. It's a circle that turns 'round upon itself.
  23. Character selection - security issues they want to avoid.

    Same with server selection.
  24. I keep looking at that, wondering where to start - then think of what happened with that "simple MA tutorial" and want to run screaming from the project.

And yet I'm still considering it.

Questioning my sanity is permissable at this point, I do believe.
  25. Sorry, you forgot to mention the Forum Cartel. No paranoid conspiracy theory is complete without mentioning the Forum Cartel. -10 points for you.
