I admit I have a bit of a taco bell addiction.
[/ QUOTE ]
Are there no Del Taco's in your area?
[/ QUOTE ]
Nope, all we have aree Taco Bell or Taco Gringo. We did have a tiny little taco place open up on main street not to long ago. My wife wants to try it but I'm a bit scared by it.
[/ QUOTE ]
One place I wish would move east... Baja Fresh. They were good, and filling. One of the few things I miss from living on the west coast.
[/ QUOTE ]
They are east. At least in the DC/MD/VA area.
[/ QUOTE ]
That must be fairly recent - of course, it's been a few years. Only ones I ever saw listed were west coast.

Why are you guys getting so worked up about a suggestion that has no chance in hell of ever happening? And people who know my posting history understand what a stretch it is for me to say that because I think most things are at least possible.
I don't even think the devs would ever entertain this idea.
[/ QUOTE ]
It's one thing to just say "Nah." However, many of us have tried to give the OP reasons why, figuring *understanding* would help out -
Unfortunately, it seems that attempt at bringing understanding is now strongly resembling attempts to pound a wet noodle through a fortified concrete wall with a whiffle bat. -

...there are still plenty of teams out there that play through non-farm content.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'd ask you to prove exactly that. Log in with a character in the 20's or 20's, on any server, and see how many teams you can find around your level. Give it a shot right now...see how many you can find that aren't rolling AE missions.
[/ QUOTE ]
Heh. Reminds me of an argument I had... what, a week ago, with ares-whatsisface. He insisted teams on Freedom, of all places, were difficult to make. Went on, had a team made in three minutes, proceeded to roll through a story arc.
[ QUOTE ]
The only ulterior motive I had was that I thought it would be a really cool way for players to show off their level 50's instead of having them languish around unused, or have them resort to becoming babysitters for other players.
[/ QUOTE ]
Wow, EVEN MORE ASSUMPTIONS! You think all 50s do that? Or that somehow having them stuck on a web page would be more fun than actually being able to take them out and play them... y'know, like pretty much everyone here so far has said they do?
[ QUOTE ]
I have no problem with people playing 50's, running missions with them, but I wish the players who were playing those high level characters, were spending more time playing heroes of a lower level, and teaming with players like myself.
[/ QUOTE ]
Even more (incorrect) assumption about those with 50s.
I *regularly* hop through levels. Run my mid-20s mastermind for a bit. Wander over to my dark/dark scrapper. Mess with my Widow. Run one of my 50s, use another to make IOs for the supergroup. Then roll up a new alt. *Constantly.* And I'd feel very safe in saying 95% of the others I know of, and 100% of those I play with (who have multiple 50s as well, for the most part,) do the same thing. *All the time.* -
[ QUOTE ]
I only made the analogy only because I felt that the play of my characters in CoH is akin to a story. Sure, I've run Frostfire twice with the same toon, because I enjoy the mission. I've followed the same arc multiple times. I've don't the same TF multiple times. I've nothing against that. What I dislike is the banal running of the same mission, ad nauseum, with no end in sight.
[/ QUOTE ]
So here's a really wild thought.
*Don't do that.* Let the people who want to do that, do that, and leave them be. Do what you want instead.
[ QUOTE ]
This kind of thing is happening so much, it's practically the only action you can find online if you're not part of a supergroup. I can't find pick-up-groups anymore that are not running AE farms.
[/ QUOTE ]
Funny, I can PUG pretty regularly and not get into AE farms. Try making a team yourself instead of waiting around, make sure you specify "Hey, we're running missions/TFs/etc," and use your friends list.
All MUCH easier and less confrontational than the incorrect assumptions and poor result you've come up with here. -
And the screenshots are from 5/15... >.>

You've been to Baja Fresh? You can answer a question that has bugged me for years.
A little back story, I worked at a comapny that made the wraps that your food is wrapped in at fast places. Over the 11 years I worked there I saw sheets for places I have never heard of, most were cool, some were stupid looking. One that always bugged me was the Baja Fresh sheet. The smallest we ever ran before Baja fresh was the 10 inch by 12 inch wraps for Wendy's. Baja though, was only 6x6. We could never figure out what the hell they used a 6x6 wrap for.
So, if you know, what do they wrap in a 6x6 piece of wax paper?
[/ QUOTE ]
It's been ... roughly 3 1/2 years since I've eaten at one, unfortunately. I'm *reasonably* sure that sounds like a container for their chips or liner for them or some such.
Edit : Might be the side in this image, too. -
Just because it's expected - "No!"
Real answer? I don't see a problem with it. Though it might (MIGHT) not be doable depending on how the power's set up (I want to say it's one of the "summons temporary pet that actually does the heal," and that may cause the delay... so there may be technical reasons.) 100% speculation on my part though. -

I know, making a complete 180 turn on my opinions is kind of hypocritical
[/ QUOTE ]
Nope. Being able to modify your opinion with further experience and evidence is far from hypocritical.
Now, saying something like "Making money on the market is too hard" while pulling in 5 million INF a day consistently from it, that would be. -
Perhaps, but it'd certainly help as far as stacking mag, given Illusion's lack of *direct* control.

Just to go on with the "no need for an end" to help illustrate the fallacy of seeing this as a "level-guided novel" -
My first 50, an elec/elec blaster (elec/elec/fire, the elec APP didn't exist,) hit 50 in issue 4. PVP came out then, but I wasn't terribly interested.
Issue 5 - Croatoa. Whole new zone, almost tailor made for her (a very magic-based character.) Croatoa's level - 24 to 35. With your suggestion, not to mention "level based start-middle-end," she couldn't experience it.
Later issues - Time travel? Of course! And the Rikti invasion, a threat to the planet as a whole? Why shouldn't she have a chance to help in that? Don't forget the Midnighter club arcs... where not only is the group itself Magic-based, but the Rikti there are trying to *destroy* magic. Something she'd *absolutely* be interested in stopping...
Seeing it as a start-middle-end novel is just limiting yourself. Trying to say "This MUST have an end" is just trying to remove the enjoyment - even punish - other players. -
The earlier picks are part of the "cost" of the later powers. Whether some are *worth* that cost (Stamina definitely, but Whirlwind? Really?) is a different subject entirely.
Also, take a close look at those numbers for those defensive pools on your AT - you may be better served by looking at IO set bonuses. -

Once again, your suggestion would do absolutely NOTHING to stop PLing and Farming. It would AT MOST slow it down temporarily until people with level 50s got a new level 49 up to level, and then would turn off the XP and continue doing what they are doing.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm not familiar with the possibility of turning off XP. How's this achieved, and for what reason?
[/ QUOTE ]
Menu - Options - Disable Earning XP - Enable/Disable (as I recall the wording.)
Introduced a few issues ago, by player request as there were people feeling they were speeding past content too *quickly* with XP smoothing, debt reduction and the like. (Don't recall if it was the same time as patrol XP - I believe so.) -

One of my other hobbies is building models. There are a few aircraft that, due to history and variety of users, I build quite a few of. Therefore, I *do* refer to specific pages over and over again without regard to the rest of the book. "What serial numbers were in range, where's that color chart," and the like. It's what those books were designed for.
Not all books are novels.
[/ QUOTE ]
Be that as it may, in this analogy, CoH IS a novel.
[/ QUOTE ]
COH is more of a series. Heck, if you look at a comic (given the genre,) you'll find people alive, dead, alive again, more or less powerful, almost randomly throughout the run of a comic.
[ QUOTE ]
It's a story that has a beginning, middle, and end -- an arc defined by a characters level.
[/ QUOTE ]
See "Ouroboros." And auto-exemplaring in task forces. And SKing/Exemping. -
... why is it in System32? Move that thing, first. Move it to the desktop, run it, it should ask where to put COH (by default c:\program files\City of Heroes,) and *should* be good after that.

You need ... quotes ... for the boolean thingies to work, even for single words? That's something I never tried
[/ QUOTE ]
For some. It's needed for what I have in my .sig, since there's a space after the re: portion. (Without the space, for some reason, I got odd results.) -
[ QUOTE ]
I could be dead wrong, but I don't think animation concerns are the big problem. The animation system doesn't blow up when you use the various Halloween costumes. While they are static skeletons (as per an old thread of mine), I'm fairly sure they're based on (or extremely similar to) the basic player models.
I think it just has to do with the fact that they're character stats that have always been static.
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually, the entire model is just temporarily displayed as a fixed NPC model (same with the "Midnight visage" power.) The underlying character isn't changed at all. The NPC model is showin without regard to the original player's height or any other setting (sometimes without regard to gender, even.) -

Farming has a negative effect on the game for one very simple reason. It encourages players to do the same thing over and over.
[/ QUOTE ]
Okay, now explain why THAT is a bad thing in and of itself. This game, whether you like it or not, is mainly doing the same thing over and over again, with little actual variation, except visually.
[/ QUOTE ]
The best way to explain this is with an analogy.
If you're reading a book, and you come to a page that you really like, and you choose to read that page over and over again, that's fine. It's a little banal, but it's fine. However, if you read that page over and over, you're opting not to actually read the book. No one can argue that you are still reading, cause you are, but you're missing out on the intention of the book.
[/ QUOTE ]
Counter-analogy.
As I look at my bookshelf, I have many books. Some biographies, some histories, some fiction, some reference.
Not all 50s farm, or PL/were PL'd.
Not all farms are PL farms. -
But there's no Trick Arrow blaster.
(Still think, really, that Ice/MM would be a contender.) -
Somewhere on the boards - thought it was here, but I dont' see it - we had another discussion over height and how *it* can't be changed. I believe it, and gender, were two of the things mentioned that pretty much everything else on the character were based off of. So it'd be much *bigger* of an issue than it would first appear.
Essentially, you'd be ripping out the house's foundation to repaint the bathroom.
If it *wasn't* that difficult, I have nothing against it. Don't think I'd *use* it, personally, though. -
[ QUOTE ]
Look, I realize that the nature of the forums is that someone suggests something, and then all the old guard show up to shoot down the idea.
[/ QUOTE ]
Incorrect. You have an idea with many issues, which are getting pointed out and argued over. You can either take that, adjust the idea or respond with counterarguments to the points brought up, or take it as a personal attack and act... well, like this.
[ QUOTE ]
What if level 50 characters were moved to a separate serve, filled with exclusive level 50 content. What if they were given a place where they could really explore their potential? Would that be enough of a carrot to lure you away from the mundane, repetitive nature of farming?
[/ QUOTE ]
Again, YOU ASSUME FARMING.
And no, it wouldn't, as I like playing my 50s with my friends characters, helping THEM get the last few levels to 50, or exemping down for TFs, creating IOs for the lowbies with the INF I have and *everything else* I do with them, and a "separate 50 server" would, IMHO, be a lousy idea, both for the lockout of *everyone else* and for having to have its own codebase. -

[ QUOTE ]
now give me proof that "farming" has a negative affect on the game.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well, if you want to hi-jack the thread and turn it into a Anti-farming conversation, I'm game.
Farming has a negative effect on the game for one very simple reason. It encourages players to do the same thing over and over. The rewards for repeating the same mission are greater, and the risks less, than for exploring the game as a whole. That's negative because it's unsustainable. If you're not actually experiencing the game itself, you're just playing that one mission over and over, what's the point in having the rest of the game at all?
As far as I'm concerned, all the proof you need is a level 31 Warshade asking other players where Striga Island is. But, if you want additional "proof"? Just read some of the stories in this thread.
https://boards.cityofheroes.com/showflat...;gonew=1#UNREAD
All your precious level 50's cease to have meaning when players who've been in the game for less than a month, and who've only explored 1% of the game content, have multiple characters of that level.
But, I repeat, this was never meant to be a discussion of whether farming is good or bad. I'm presupposing that it IS bad, and based on that assumption, I'm suggesting a possible resolution.
Of course, if you like farming, then you're gonna hate the solution. You don't want to lose the ability to level characters up fast without work.
[/ QUOTE ]
Farming and Powerlevelling are not the same thing. Let's get that out of the way first. I could, quite honestly, be accused of "powerleveling" some of my Khelds just by loading up with Lucks and running them through Perez from level 8 or so, unleashing AOEs. I've done it with my Fire blaster in Dark Astoria. Not from wanting to PL... but because melting zombies en masse is *fun.*
Farming doesn't encourage players to do the same thing over and over. While farming, at a very basic definition, IS running the same thing over and over, you're putting it the same way as "Coughing encourages people to get sick." No, sick people (depending on the illness) cough. People who are farming repeat the same thing over and over.
Also, the rewards for repeating the same mission are not necessarily greater - by farming (and resetting,) you miss out on end of mission XP, end of arc XP, and the drops they give. On the flip side, those people farming it have steady income and still get chances FOR drops on mobs they're comfortable with.
The point of having the rest of the game? *Not everyone farms.* What's the point of having PVP zones if you like PVE? Well, others like PVP. What's the point of having the RWZ if your characters would never run coop? Yet others do enjoy it.
As for my 50s having meaning - I don't get meaning from having them be 50s. Their meaning is for what *I* have gone through with them on the trip to 50 and after, from memories of playing, from RP with them, from what they can do in certain groups.
Your idea is not being disagreed with because anyone likes farming. It's being disagreed with because it's not particularly good - with the rebuttals given in my first reply, in my case. -
I don't recall if they've said it's not possible or extremely difficult.
