"Oh my god, someone helped me without asking! In a game about heroes no less! How dare anyone just help me out because I'm there, in a way that doesn't diminish my XP or INF gain in any way shape or form! Damn people trying to be nice, how dare they!"
Sheesh.
Edit: Oh, btw OP:
Quote:Five years of doing it. Zero enemies as a result. Plenty of thank yous, though.by doing Drive-By-Buffing, without asking first, is gonna make them a ton of enemies! -
Quote:Yeah, dual builds do that "Go to 24 and start over" nonsense, a /respec does not. (Thank $deity.) Double checked on my bane.Testing this now on my lvl 50 Widow...
Typing /respec allowed me to immediately pick Mental Blast, a Night Widow or Fortunata power. Selecting one removed the other from the list, like Roderick and bromley said.
Maybe a regular earned respec works differently (which seems silly to me), or maybe Mac and Fleeting are thinking of how to level up the Dual-build.. but I'm not getting the same results they describe. -
Quote:Reading comprehension again. You'll note I stated "For all I know," some top SGs are like that. That is not "Every top SG I've seen is like that," or even "Most" or "Many."In fact most the Top SGs that I know are not the way MB Described... I guess you have just had incounters with idiots.
The point you're missing so consistently here is that *prestige means nothing* when it comes to finding a good SG. Zero, zip, nada. That list is one of the most useless items in the game.
So there's zero dissent at all? You have some process in mind for helping those who don't want to move? You would - if this were, for whatever reason, implemented - set up a fund to purchase slots or whatnot on the destination server for those that don't have free slots?Quote:We always make major decisions by having meetings and voting... I have said that in just about every reply i have added to this post, but for some reason people keep going back to... The members should get a say. Well in my case they do and that is the only reson the topic was posted.
And yes, people keep going back to "the members should get a say," because - they *should.* An SG is not (generally) a single person affair. It's something all members put work into.
The flip side of this is that prestige is *not* that hard to get. It's just as easy to say "Hey, whoever wants to, come on over" and build up again - easier, in fact, than trying to get the game changed to let SGs move, dealing with all the problems brought up before - which lets those that would want to stay stay put and still have a home they've put work into.
Prove it. You have the population numbers? Not "I did a search and I think this is right," but you have the numbers straight from NCSoft?Quote:That and to point out the free transfers are making the lesser populated servers lesser populated... and that is cold hard fact.
No?
Then it's not "cold hard fact." NCSoft/Paragon Studios are the only ones who can provide "cold hard fact" like that. -
Quote:I don't care if they're #1, #12, #50, or not on the list - that list means *jack.* And eventually people realize that. Prestige means nothing as far as how good or bad an SG is - for all I know, the people in the top SGs are complete jerks who don't communicate, act like a room of five year olds when they do and generally are miserable to play with, but farm 24/7 in some combination in SG mode so there's always prestige flowing in. May as well say your SG has the greenest base walls - it's as useful as prestige for telling how worthwhile a SG is.Well our groups are active... and I know not everyone is gonna agree but be realistic that your opion is not a fact it's an opinion... but from my experience when you say do you wanna join the #12 SG on the Server you get more people to say yes as opposed to just saying do ya wanna join a great SG?
If I find people I repeatedly play with who I *enjoy* playing with, and they're in an SG, I ask who I talk to about joining. If they're NOT in an SG, we create our own (or if they don't really care for theirs.)
FWIW, of all my characters, only two are in (or otherwise affiliated with) large SGs - coalitions of them, in fact. LoC and RO. I didn't join because "ZOMG they're big," but because they're fun. -
Unsassan's Strike!
Yeah, the only way I see this happening, honestly, is a second build "dedicated" to it - and I don't think the med pool's strong enough to make it worth it, really. A team-support-bot, perhaps, that someone's not really playing (call it 1 1/2 boxing,) maybe. But actually trying to *play* it? er...
If you want an invisi-heal redside, go with a Corruptor, get Stealth and a Stealth IO (plus stock up on salvage for the empowerment station for even more invisible goodness.) It'd be much more effective, I think.
If you're absolutely dedicated to the idea, here's a build (no enh set up in it) purely for lulz. (And no, not with a lot of thought in it.) It's not necessarily efficient, and I can't see it as fun (you have, after all, one heal, a rez, and stimulant,) but it is invisible.

Quote:That was bad writing on my part, as it was meant to shift from directed at you (questioning just what sort of khelds you've seen to give you this picture of a typical Kheld) to a general statement which, yes, is just a buildup of irritation at seeming to have anything that people can't roll over in their sleep being screamed about for a nerf. Which the (general, not specifically aimed at you, Sam) "you" at the end didn't help. And for that I apologize.Yeah... That kind of uncharacteristic, mean, malicious slander is not something I'd have expected from you, Bill. I am honestly incredibly disappointed, especially since you're throwing insults in my face so freely. Reflect on that how you will.
And no, nothing wrong with scrappers, but you have to admit they're one of the flat-out easiest ATs to play (defense, typically, plus high damage,) which conversely is why I only have one at 50 (and my first one, made - well, look at the forum reg date, somewhere within that month - is still sitting at 31.) There's just no challenge to them without artificial inflation ("Can I solo the entire Cim wall?") They end up boring me to tears because, come SOs (and at times before that,) nothing really *hurts* them. And yeah, frankly, that includes Cysts.
Cysts just *aren't* that hard to deal with, but they DO require more than "Run in and start beating."
This is probably why I've started spending more time over in Aion - "stumbling on" PVP while you're doing something, that unexpected "Can I take them or not?" - while not something I'd support transplanting into COH - adds some excitement over there that, by comparison, is far too rare here. -
Quote:Of course, a cyst is nowhere near the difficulty of a Master Of... run. Thus the listing of other things you shouldn't just run through without a tiny bit of thought as well. Not everyone wants the game to be equivelant of a MasterOf run. Thats why the Masterof run and the LRSF and STF are Optional. Not everyones Fun is the same.
Then approach them differently and you won't *have* a "30+ strong cloud" to deal with. Yes, even on a full team. You only get that if everybody rushes in like it's a group of Skulls. And they aren't particularly "rapid fire," either.Quote:Now, by all means, Im not saying 'Get rid of them, I die me no like!' or anything as damn silly as that. But I do find the 30+ strong cloud of Nicti all spamming rapid fire Ebon bolts to be 1) bad design 2) Not Fun.
To use your own phrasing: " If you aren't careful, you die. A little bit of care, boom, no problem." Yes, it IS still true for cysts. -
Quote:Redside:Meh. I still run into contacts I've never played through, see parts of the zones I've never seen, and can still find stuff that makes me think 'Oh, cool.'
Blueside? 'Oh god, who the hell have I got to see now? Oh, yay...Hunts! Fedex! *sigh*'
YMMV
"Oh, yay, kalinda/burke, mongoose/creed, radio, heck, bocor, vendetti, radio, again... zzzzz..." *shelve character*
Blueside I can take multiple different paths. Atlas - Hollows - Faultline - Striga - Croatoa - Bricks/RWZ/PI/Cim. Next, Galaxy - Kings - Skyway - IP - Founders, next Galaxy - Hollows - Steel - Talos (etc.) and have a very hard time repeating content. There are contacts I've flat out forgotten about from having so much other stuff to do. I can't say that redside. (And don't get me started on the VEAT "arcs" of 1-2 missions.) i'd hoped unlockables would have helped that, but ... nope. -
Quote:Right. Most people don't want to play MMs. They don't want to play them *so* much that getting a heroside version is one of the more frequent requests.Did I say we had a hard time making prestige??? Oh Nope sure didn't... I say it was harder to get in the top cause most people Don't wanna play MMs and Most don't want MMs on their team.
Little SG-centric are you? Go do a search.Quote:No noone has said server merger although in other games that is what they do when the population declines. Which is the only thing I think Gristlebone was talking about there is a decline in the overall populatoin of this game so it wouldn't be out of the question for them to think about merging servers. Why would people quit if Servers would merge? The only way i see that is if they lost their SGs.
No, that is not what I'm saying. You need to work on your reading comprehension. Kicking someone from a SG is nowhere near the same as a suggested move. One affects one person. The other affects everyone - whether they want to move or not, whether they'd have space to move with the SG, money (or space) to buy the slots to do so if they DO want to -Quote:Just curious should they do away with the kick from SG button? Since the person made prestige in your SG...and your saying the leader shouldn't be able to make decisions on the future of the SG.
Have you actually bothered to think of the impact of doing this past "I want?" -
-
Quote:And defense can be debuffed. The majority of holds are at range. Doesn't matter if you're running or walking, in midair, whatever. What are you going to do with, say, that nice Sorc/Ink man group (remember, this is melee/melee?) Holds from a distance, tohit debuff if you DO manage to get in range... of course, if you're on the ground, they may have friends with caltrops as well.Being a completely different AT, we have no Inherent defined.
Currently, my (solo) melee characters usually don't get noticed until they are right on top of the NPC's. As a Scrapper or Brute, I run right into the mob instead of slowly walking towards them.
Sure, they suffer a mixture of melee and ranged attacks from the enemy group, as there's always a foe in the mix who chooses to stand 10-15ft away and shoot.
But what if this all-melee AT had {Positional Defence: Ranged Only}, either as part of the new AT's inherent or as thier mandatory Tier 1 pick from their secondary?
That might help them survive to get into melee where they can use their attacks.
And of course, not all holds (etc) are ranged (Rikti monkey gas, for starters, and how many melee stuns are there? Just count the number of rifle butts to the face.)
If we start adding defense to the mix, might as well add some status protection, and... why are we not just playing a current melee AT again since this starts drifting away from the melee/melee concept given? -
Quote:Prove it. Not "I think" or "I did a search once," get the numbers from one of the devs and post it. Because other than that, you're guessing.I think it was very cool that you guys offered free server transfers at the holidays, but you took some of our lesser used servers and made them even lesser used.
So MMs have a hard time earning prestige? Which is all the "top 100" means - a rather worthless measure, frankly. After you buy the biggest plot and fill it with all the crap you can, then what? I'd much rather have an SG I enjoy being in - whether it has a tiny base or is #1 on the server is irrelevant if it's not *fun.*Quote:I have been playing on Victory for over 2 years now. I have a very Nice big base that I have worked on and gotten it up to 45 in the top 100 which i have to say is not easy for an ALL MM SG...
A SG made up around one of the *most durable, hard hitting ATs* has problems earning prestige.
Yeah, you'll excuse me if I find that a bit hard to believe.
And for the people that don't want to move? Why should they lose out on their work? Who controls the movement? What about all the personal items put into the base? What if 1/3 want to move (for some ungodly reason) to Freedom, 1/3 want to stay where they are, and 1/3 want to move to (say) Guardian? What if others don't have the slots available there?Quote:Now why is it I would want to move to a diffrent server leaving behind all the prestige I have earned and the base I have created just to go to a more populated server and have to start over. You guys should try to figure out a way so that our SGs and Prestige can move along with us. It is not fair to some of who have devoted our time to the SGs giving out things having countess contests just to have to give it all up. Not to mention the extra slots i purchased for this server.
Bad idea. And no, nothing pointing toward a server merge (another bad idea, unless the dev team feels like losing many subscriptions and being unemployed soon,) despite the other tinfoil hat post. (Edit, noticed it was another person after.) Oh, btw... some people moved OFF the higher servers to the lower, or between lower pop servers, which certainly didn't hurt them. -
Quote:Origin is one of the four "foundation" components to your character that cannot change (the others being AT, primary, and secondary.) Of the four, it's the one that has the least impact.Suggestion: Allow respecs to change Origin.
Why? Why not. Your enhancers 'detach' anyway, and it might be that some people might want to change their origin for a retcon.
Just sayin'
I've suspected for some time that the reason for this not being alterable (other than being low priority, and affecting the few things it does have an effect on) is that it's a holdover from the earliest iterations of the game, where Origin had a *much* bigger impact (how many powers you could get, and how much you could develop them,) and that the ability to change it may break something very fundamental, very badly, in ways we're not aware of.
If it doesn't, and the things it DOES affect can be handled well (the heroside non-EAT starting contact being the most problematic, I'd think) I wouldn't argue against it for non-epics. -
Blasters have the luxury of range (and typically some control, even in the damage-heavy Fire/Fire combo.)
Melee-Melee? Run up, get mezzed halfway there, get to do nothing as you're killed - especially if you're killed from range. No, doesn't sound like a good idea at all. -
Quote:Directly at 20 from a contact: "See Stephanie Peebles."Meh, YMMV. I find Heroside to have LESS content. Why? Because it's so damn hard to find.
After the Hollows, then what? It depends what level I'm on. Faultline sometimes works, but sometimes I've levelled to far. What then?
Meet an outleveled contact: "Here, you can't help me, everything's good, go talk to this person though, I hear they need help."
Click a random contact: "Shouldn't you be talking to (contact name?)" And then there's the radio, which will either give you a mission, tell you things in the zone are too easy or that they're above your level.
I don't see what the problem is, when those happen very consistently. -
Quote:Excuse me? Perhaps you've only seen them played by a PL'd 10 year old with ADD. Because, Sam, to be exceptionally blunt, this (and pretty much everything I snipped after) is a load of BS.A lot of people tell me they're really powerful, and I wonder if I should be mad at them for lying to me. Kheldians can do a lot of things, none of them really good, and none of them really good without a team around them.
Khelds are NOT team-dependent, and only the absolutely incompetent or cowardly have to be "babied" or "run yelling Eeek! Voids!" ESPECIALLY after the heavy nerfing the voids unfortunately received.
Oh, no, there's something in the game (cysts) that a team can't just run blindly up to, screaming and drooling, to beat on like almost every other mob in the game. Something that requires a modicum of thought or planning. Obviously it needs to be ripped from the game. We should heavily nerf Ghost Widow and Nosferatu, too, so all they do is fire spitballs and yell "Not the face!"
Christ.
Any of the people insisting these are such horrid, insta-team-wipe, awful unfair challenges bother running a "Master of..." task or strike force? I don't mean with (or without) a Kheld, I mean at all. Or do you avoid them like the plague? How about setting up the challenge settings in Ouro? No? Do you just drop the heroside "Stop 30 fir Bolg from escaping?" Do you not bother with the Efficiency Expert because all the timed missions are "unfair" or "too hard?"
If you avoid any or all the above, then yes, avoid ever having anything to do with a Kheld and go roll another scrapper. Leave my Cysts (see also "Eclipse-and-Mire-bait") alone. -
Quote:Don't need positron to say it - just look at what happened with PPPs/APPs. My Dom would have lost a (useful) AOE attack for a (useless, to me) PFF, for instance. I know there were several other attacks and powers that would have changed that - well, quite frankly, had they gone through I'd have questioned what the devs were thinking and probably shelved those higher level characters (as opposed to going through a long and irritating respec.) If not just walked away from the game at that point, as I'd no longer feel any sense of ownership of my characters (as in, log out as a mind/ dom, log in to find mind/ has been deleted and I'm now grav.)Yeah, and unfortunately by definition, new thinking can't really be in old sets. Heh. That's funny.
The Cottage Rule, in a sense, was designed to prevent that. Massive changes to sets because the devs say, "Oh, this would work better!" While such changes could be buffs, they could also be nerfs. For instance, what are the odds the devs would replace every Tier 9 power in the game with a non-Recharge-Enhancable version like Strength of Will, if they felt that the players' objections are unimportant, and they should only do what increases the balance of the game?
For every idea you think is a good one, there is someone else who would protest that he has been nerfed, whether because he doesn't like the change, or because he thinks that makes you stronger than him. As Positron has said, a buff under one condition can always be interpreted as a penalty in another condition.
/this. I don't know of anyone who didn't like getting a heal in Energize (or ... gah, I'm blanking out on the similar power from Energy.)Quote:I think it's possible to inject new things into old power sets, for example adding scaling resistance to super reflexes, and changing conserve power to energize. For the first case, a new ability is simply added on top of the set. For the second one, the original functionality of the power is kept while new thematic abilities are added. Quite a lot of things can be done in these two ways without replacing existing powers by something completely different. -
Quote:Storyline. And I love it.I don't really see why. I guess I just don't get why the HEATs have this added 'penalty' (which it CAN be, not always but sometimes).
Purples, appropriately enough. And they're not noticably more accurate than anything else. The strategies for dealing with these (such as "don't have everyone rush it to limit the spawns") have been known for... well, literally years.Quote:Alos, sure, if you can kill the Cyst most of the mob dies. Thats IF you can get through the hail of accurate, -recharge attacks. And destroy the Cyst, which are actually quite tough.
Yes, I was disappointed with the nerfing of Voids. They're barely a threat now. I'd hate to see cysts wimped down, too.
Hell no. -
Yeah, there's no reason whatsoever to put a mission computer in blueside, and no reason to *keep* it in redside unless you really like one SF.
I wouldn't mind putting in AE missions - but it'd probably have to go through some sort of approval so the farms don't just migrate there. A "SG approved" list taken from the main list wouldn't be bad.
I'd personally rather have any missions added stay SG-focused ("Do this as a SG, get rewards for the SG.") You can, of course, call in outside help (non SG members,) but the rewards should encourage SG play (to me.) -
-
If it must be a controller (you want the buff/debuff secondary,) absolutely go with Plant. Great deal of fun. It and Mind are probably my most played, followed closely by Earth and Ice. (Cannot *stand* Illusion - not enough control, but hey, two ways of turning people invisible, yay.)
If you just want to play a control *set,* look into Dominators as well (either now or post-GR, if you don't want to play redside at all.) Control + Damage + Domination = Glee. -
Changes depending on the character. Some get that way from the get-go, others will be an RP moment, or something happening during gameplay (being the last one standing - or the first one falling a little too often, or just some "This is great" moment.)
Too many characters and too many moments to really *name.*
-
Are you *asking* for Focused Senses to give +Perception, or stating it does? Because if you're asking - it already does.
-
You want money sinks? Go play Aion.
Here's part of my gameplay earlier today:
Mission - Get essence from two Elim elders because of a blight affecting the forest. Where are these elders? Two different zones.
- No teleporter. I'm bound to the current zone. Recall back to the main fortress.
- Pay for teleporter to capitol, since the inter-zone teleport doesn't go to Poeta (the starter zone, where one of the elim is.)
- Pay for teleporter from capitol to Poeta.
- Walk, get essence.
- Pay for teleport back to Sanctum (capitol,) since it's cheaper than teleporting across.
- Pay for teleport to Eltnen.
- Get essence.
- Stop and buy arrows. Wait, I have another mission here -
- Run out to Agarion Village - I could fly (another charge,) but I'll spend time instead of money.
- Mission - get hot water from mystic spring in caldera. Bring it back within two minutes. Only realistic way to do this? Bind to the obelisk (recall point) in the village - for a fee.
- Run out, recall back. Mission success, guy's cured, blah blah blah.
- Fly (another fee, I'm tired of walking) back to Eltnen's fortress.
- Teleport (again) to Hieron. Re-bind there (another fee) since that's where m ost of my missions are.
- Since the Elim I need to see is on the *other side of the zone,* pay (again) for a flight out.
Ten individual fees for that little runaround. Of course, if you're going to spend any considerable time in any zone, you re-bind, sometimes re-bind to a different obelisk (again for a fee.) You'll certainly want to bind yourself if you go play in the Abyss. Consumables, job supplies - and don't forget crafting, where you're also buying from a vendor (especially if you do work orders) And don't forget buying your skills when you level, and buying collection skill upgrades for materials, and "ranks" in crafting, and, and, and...
No, I rather like not having more INF sinks in COH, TYVM. All the fees and "money sinks" over THERE certainly contribute to an RMT issue. Adding them here - where there is, frankly, nothing but enhancements (not IOs, not purples, not PVP recipes, just plain old TO/DO/SOs) that you need to buy - WOULD create an RMT issue. I can't think of the last time I've even *seen* an RMT email here. I'd rather not have anything make them think there's a viable market for their nonsense - which adding more INF sinks would do. -
Yes, I'd think they should be against the rules, no matter what. If the game is so boring to you you have to set up an automated routine to continually play it for you so you can do something else - find a different game.
