  1. Happy (Possibly slightly belated) birthday, Tal! Hope you had a good one!
  2. Happy birthday, Phantom! In case I don't see you in-game, hope you have a great one!

If there was a statement somewhere that existing characters have to go to Praetorian earth to switch sides, I didn't see it. And it just doesn't even make sense.
I seem to recall this being the case as well. Last I recall, the Praetoria content was mainly intended to be a new low-game experience that allowed the characters created THERE to choose whether they became a hero or villain through their own actions, while the stuff that existing characters would use to switch sides would be entirely out of Praetoria (through some system that the Devs are understandably keeping quiet about). If Praetoria is involved in changing the alignment of existing characters, I haven't heard as much from any source.

EDIT: Oh, and to bring this back to the original topic, I definitely like the morally gray aspects of this version of Calvin Scott. He wants to take down Emperor Cole, which seems well and good, but he seems to be willing to do anything to do so as long as it gets him his wife back. I'd certainly be uncomfortable working under someone like that, even if he is the best chance for the Resistance.

  5. Happy birthday, BloodSpeaker! Hope you have a good one!
  6. Sonia Atomica - Sonic/Rad Corrupter: 31 - 46
    Torn Reality - Grav/Kin Controller: 32 - 33
    Master Kurushimi - Ninjas/Pain Mastermind: 21 -22

Obviously, most of the weekend was spent on Sonia but since she's the most fun out of the three, I wouldn't have it any other way.

    Love that!

    For me...

Shield Charge (I still can't resist the urge to snicker every time it knocks a whole horde of enemies out)
Poison Trap (The Traps one, not the Poison one)
    Fulcrum Shift
    Eclipse

    [Supergroup] Magmite Lord: Golapo Oog.
[Supergroup] Pumicite: ((Uh... That's not any language I recognize so I guess this is an RP SG? I can work with that. Can I get a translation so I can participate?))

Yup, I got it the day it came out and absolutely loved it. As Tal said, it really isn't much of an exaggeration to say that you are Batman in the game. Whether you're swooping down from the shadows to knock out unsuspecting thugs or beating down an entire group of enemies in one fluid combo, the definite feeling of being Batman is there. Batman fans should definitely love it and even those with at least a passing interest in him will almost certainly enjoy it. I'm eagerly awaiting the sequel, not just because it'll almost certainly be fun but because I want to see which members of Batman's rogue's gallery we'll be seeing next. I want to see Mr. Freeze!

Also, Tal, (Spoilers if you haven't gotten to the second Scarecrow fight yet) I'm not certain what part of the Scarecrow fight you're on but if you're at the point where he's giant and you have to avoid him, simply watch where the beams from his eyes go. He follows a pattern and you can exploit that to tell when he won't be looking at your path. Generally, right after his gaze starts moving away from where you're hiding, that's the best time to go. Remember to take down any skeletons that show up as you run around because if you don't, his gaze will continue to block your path. Generally, the skeletons will appear when he leans in for a closer look so keep that in mind. Hope that helps!

EDIT: I just looked at a video of the second Scarecrow encounter to refresh my memory. If you're stuck early in the fight, there's a point early on where you need to use the batclaw to drag some boxes down to use as cover. As for the rest of it, the best advice I can give is to stay in cover and watch him. He doesn't watch your path forever.
  10. Whoa, I actually managed to win? This is quite an honor! Congrats to the other winners and the runner-ups as well! I'm definitely looking forward to seeing how everyone does in the finals!
  11. Happy birthday, Missi! Hope you have (Or at this point, had) a great day!

Actually, it's not fanfic. Here's the exact same information on the CoH site itself.

    http://www.cityofheroes.com/game_inf...et_skulls.html

All you have to do is go to the Skulls' bio under "Know your adversary" and scroll down to the Top Secret folder to find this.

Other than this, and their brief appearance in Bonefire where their status as the founders of the Skulls isn't even mentioned, they aren't really mentioned anywhere in the game, so that's the extent of what we know.
  13. These are some fantastic reviews! Although I understand that it may take you a while to get to it, I'd like to submit my own arc, The Rikti Accession, to your list of arcs to play. Its ID is in my signature, but I'll still let you know that it's 278757. As for the arc itself, it's a level 40-50 Neutral arc (Although it's supposed to be styled like a RWZ arc) that involves a Restructurist plot that has its roots back in the first Rikti War. You'll find out what it is soon enough.

So far, most of the response to it has been positive, but it seems like the biggest criticism is that it's too wordy, even though I personally feel that the words are all necessary to properly convey the story. Your thoughts on that would definitely be appreciated, along with any other criticisms you can provide!

Most of all, I hope you enjoy it!
  14. Oooh, I like this idea a lot! None of my arcs currently fit this criteria fully, although one of them gives you the choice to do something quite evil for what your character could perceive as the greater good. Perhaps I could try to see if I can come up with something within the time required. It'll make a nice self-challenge!

Anyway, thanks everyone! Although I didn't win any Architect awards this year, this certainly made up for it. I was quite nervous during the trivia contest, so I'm glad I managed to keep my head on long enough to actually win the contest. Considering who I was going up against on both the trivia and Architect fronts, I was definitely lucky to win one of them!
  16. Doh, am I late? Happy birthday, Arwen!
  17. Well, the thread title only references me, so I can understand the confusion. I don't mind Wrong Number having her own thread, though! Congrats on the nomination!
  18. Thanks, everyone! I'm extremely happy (And more than a little surprised) that I managed to make it to the nominee phase. I'm not sure if I'm going to win from here, but I can always hope. I guess I'll find out at Hero-Con! Congrats to the other Justicites who got nominated as well!

Also, Dan, the arc in question was "The Rikti Accession," the last arc in my sig.
  19. Mind if I join Team Snark, Missi? This sounds like it'll be a lot of fun, so I definitely want to participate!
  20. Oooh, feedback from Dr. Aeon himself! This should be good. Well, I submitted two of my arcs to the Architect awards. If you'd like to run one of those, I'd definitely like you to run The Rikti Accession, a 40-50 Neutral (Although it's more co-op, being in the RWZ style) arc. Its ID is 278757.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

By the way, check your PMs, Manoa. I sent you some of the information I think you'll need if you're still willing to drive me to the Con.
  22. Always good to see another reviewer show up. I personally think that threads like these help me immensely with my writing when I submit my arcs, so I'm willing to throw my hat in here with my arc, the Rikti Accession (Shown in my signature). I sincerely hope you enjoy it, although there are some plot points in it that are bugging me now since they've been brought up by some recent reviews. Hopefully, I can fix them before you get to it but if not....well, it's gotten generally favorable reviews so far so I hope you like it regardless!

I'll see if I can play Ignition of the Machine at some point, since stories about robots tend to be fun.
  23. Thank you very much for reviewing my arc! You brought up some great points and I'll address most of them here, although I think a certain....plot device could warrant more discussion via PMs as you've said. Let's just say for now that I hate it just as much as you do but I'm totally clueless as to how to fix it.

    Spoiler Discussion Below

    Quote:
First: Rhodes. Specifically, the nav bar simply says to "find the vanguard soldier" or some such, but there are TONS of generic NPCs named "Vanguard Soldier" all over the map. I strongly recommend to actually list his name in the nav bar, like "Find Rhodes" or something.
Good point. I think I have some room to introduce him in the send-off dialogue, so I may just have her tell you to seek him out (Why she'd ask you to help out a Rikti hater, though, is a bit more of a problem).

    Quote:
Also, I played through this arc twice, and I noticed this issue twice in a row.. the Rikti Scientist attacks the base and gets his rear end shot off by the turrets. The turrets will actually completely solve the objective for you, because hs spawns at the base, and then attacks it, and gets killed. I don't think you can really prevent this while keeping him an enemy. The only option in my mind to keep the atmosphere in the mission and maintain the integrity of this mission goal is instead to make him an Ally that you need to "capture" and lead to the mission exit. Make it so that he is non-combat, and is "Guarded" by some of his friends, whom you take out. Having effectively captured him, you can then take him in to the base personally. This also means that even if the turrets take out his guards, you can still "pick him up" and lead him out, allowing the player directly solve the objective. He spawned pretty close to the base, so a single escort in the entire arc shouldn't be an issue IMO.
I hadn't actually thought of doing that with the scientist. Very nice suggestion! I'm a little wary of doing it, though, for two reasons. For one thing, the guards can still get blown away by the turrets and Vanguard Also, it essentially means you have two very similar objectives in the same mission (Rescue Rhodes and "rescue" the scientist). Considering how the two objectives have considerably different feels to them, though, I'll definitely take this into consideration.

    Quote:
Okay, now, on the matter of the Embryos in the third mission. This left me somewhat confused. This did not detract from the rating, and I admit to being dense, but something got me here. Rikti are born human, so any embryos would be human embryos. C'Kelkah refers to them as "Rikti Embryos", so I was like "wait, bwuh?" and then, later, the arc specifically mentions "They start as human". So I imagine you mean that, even if they are human embryos (or embryos modified to be Meta-Rikti) that they still "belong" to Rikti society? Either.. this needs clarifying.. or I'm just really dense.. >.> <.<
Well, the idea is that because the embryos were modified to become Meta-Rikti while still in this state, they don't really count as human anymore. In other words, they've already started the mutation. Remember that the original experiment that led to the Meta-Rikti (The creation of Tk'Lankah) was intended to skip the human part of the process altogether and although it went in a completely different direction eventually, it seemed to have partially succeeded by making Tk'Lankah into something that is mostly a Rikti, albeit super-powered. I'm not sure I can find room to say that she's been like that since birth, though... Also, give yourself some credit! You're more perceptive than you think you are, since you could see the point of the box as a plot device.

    Quote:
Also, on the issue of the note, I think it could use some clarifying, as it sorta confused me, and I didn't really understand what he was trying to say until I talked to C'Kelkah. Remember, I'm sorta dense though. This is from my notes I took as I played:

"The letter confuses me a little bit too, I think he needs to clarify somewhat on what base he is going to and what exactly he is going to do to cause what to be set back. I have no idea what he's trying to tell me."

I didn't understand what he meant until I talked to the contact herself.
I was originally going to have Rhodes explain what he was going to do in the letter, but I ran out of room (Curse you, 1000 character limit!). Instead, I had him make references to doing something drastic and focused on his offer. Perhaps I could have him say something along the lines of "You'll find out what it is I'm going to do soon enough. Decide from there."

    Quote:
First, I felt Rhodes' dialogue was a bit too expositionary and overt. His monologue really seems artificial, and he's saying stuff the player kinda knows anyways, so if you can smooth it out a bit, go ahead.
Funny. I never noticed this before (And no one ever brought it to my attention) and now it really bothers me. I'll have to change it. Thanks for telling me!

    Quote:
Second issue.. well it's kinda my fault See, he runs at about 25% health, and if you let him get to the exit, you "Fail" the mission, having taken his side on the moral dilemma. Well with my difficulty settings, he spawned as an LT, meaning, I had to cherry tap him to get him to not die horribly (especially considering my Stalker nature, as I had to unhide so I didn't crit him to death).

Well another issue, related to me being a stalker, is that I chose to let him run, but I had stealthed past everything in the mission on my way to him, and he got shot up and died on the way out because of this, and I didn't get to make my choice as a result. This didn't detract from the rating at all, but if this seems like an issue to you that you want to fix, feel free to find a way to do it.

NOT related to my stalker nature, when I got to him, I was invisible and watched him fight patrols. Patrols came right up on him, and while he won hands down, it concerned me that he might not always be so lucky. I don't know what to do about this, I know you wanted to keep this mission easy, but making him an EB might solve a lot of issues. People can now set not to fight EBs while solo and he will spawn as a boss instead, making him much more survivable, while still soloable by 99.9999999% of players.

You can look into this and playtest this if you want. Remember, these are not demands, and I didn't feel this detracted from the rating, but I like the idea of a moral dilemma and how you handled it, and I think you might want to take steps to further ensure players always have the chance to make that decision - I'm just not 100% on what the most elegant solution would be. Of course, you can also do a variant on what I did for the 4th mission of my Aru Prime arc.

In that arc, I use a map that has a wierd layout, and so I mentioned that Intel said to cover the map in a very certain way, to help the player out. Mentioning in the popup that C'Kelkah or Rhodes said to clear out the bad guys before facing Rhodes himself is one option as well.
I don't think I want to make him an EB because there's always the chance that when he decides to run, players may not be able to damage him enough to finish him off and end up failing the mission when they wanted to succeed. In other words, we'd end up with the exact opposite of the problem you're having. The downgrade to boss feature DOES make it tempting, though...

I may just have something in the opening pop-up mentioning that it might be a good idea to get rid of the Restructurists so they can't get to him.

Anyway, great review and thank you for taking the time to run it! I'll contact you via PM regarding the box soonish. Maybe we can work something out.

Awesome that you're coming, Manoa! It just wouldn't be the same without you. Are we going to see the Crazy Old Cat Lady again or do you not feel like going for a repeat performance this time? I loved the claws last time, as you might remember, although the mask disturbed me.

It should be easier for someone who knows their way around the area to pick me up, after all.
  25. Thanks for playing my arc and I apologize for taking so long to respond! I've been rather busy. Glad you liked it! Let me address the problems you brought up...

    Quote:
First, the Vanguard are such an overwhelmingly powerful faction that just about any battle between them and the Rikti results in a sound Vanguard victory before I can get there. I'd recommend at the very least just making sure that every battle between those two factions has the Rikti set to as hard as possible and the Vanguard set to as easy as possible. That, coupled with judicious use of Rikti patrols in missions with Vanguard battles *might* make the results of missions that highlight engagements between the two factions far less one-sided. Nowhere was this more obvious than the mission where I helped repel a Rikti attack on the Vanguard base: trying to weight the battles between the Vanguard and the Rikti very heavily in favor of the Rikti might very well be the only thing between the mission feeling like a desperate battle to repel a Rikti assault and the player heading to the outskirts of the map to capture a 'flagged' mob because the Vanguard are too preoccupied with rolling on the floor laughing at how utterly they just mopped the floor with a so-called Rikti invasion force.
I've done what I can to put things in favor of the Rikti on the second map, but the way the map is set up makes it extraordinarily difficult for that to happen. There's a number of Vanguard and turrets that appear on the map without the use of battles and the like. For some reason, these Vanguard and turrets tend to spawn as bosses while the Rikti spawn normally. This, paired with the fact that Vanguard are already stupidly powerful, makes it difficult to shift the battle in favor of the Rikti. I'd honestly like a different map, but the other Vanguard base map has worse issues (The objectives spawn too close or too far to the base, leading to the mission being completed immediately or forcing the player to search). I think if they ever make the main Vanguard base map usable, I might switch it to that.
    Quote:
Second - and understand that this is really more a nitpick - perhaps placing emphasis on the Meta-Rikti program really being an attempt to unlock and restore to the Rikti the abilities that the mutagenic process that makes a human into a Rikti must (apparently) lock away. The Rikti *are* mutated humans (as the arc points out), so it seems odd that the program is trying to splice Rikti and human DNA, since Rikti DNA is just modified human DNA. It just makes more sense to me that somehow the Riktification process tends to 'lock away' most powers seen in meta-humans, and that by attempting to partially block the Riktification process, the Rikti have found a way to 'unlock' these abilities while still retaining a semblance of the abilities the Riktification process grants in the first place. Wow, I hope that made sense.
I think I get what you're saying here and I did want to touch on some of this stuff in the arc itself, but I ran out of room. There's very little space left and I don't really have anywhere to put it anyway. Basically, the assumption I made here is that something in the Riktification process makes it difficult for super human powers to develop, since we have never heard of any "Meta-Rikti" beforehand and the only Rikti with real superpowers that we've seen are humans that have been relatively recently converted (Dra'Gon and the Honoree, for instance) and apparently retained whatever powers they used to have, sort of like the Devoured Pyriss. Basically, the point of the project is indeed to regain control over their abilities, but the freakish appearances of the Meta-Rikti (Who look like they're in between a Rikti and human state) are sort of a side effect that came from studying Tk'Lankah's genetic makeup that they are trying to overcome. It's implied in one of the clues in the fourth mission that they eventually intend on finding a way to give super powers to their regular troops without any of these side effects. As you can imagine, the Rikti's impressive technology paired with super powered beings would probably result in big trouble for our Earth if the Restructurists succeed.
    Quote:
And finally (and most minor overall) - I did sort of think that if more interaction with Kenneth Rhodes could be worked into the arc, it would increase the impact in the last mission of having to choose between letting him complete his plan, and arresting him. As it stands, the fact that I meet him once, and then he just sort of 'gets there first' and acts in the background did kind of make it not that hard to choose to put a stop to his plan.
The problem is that I don't really have anywhere to logically put him. I suppose he could be in the third mission, but then it would seem weird for him to have beaten you to the embryos to the fourth mission if he was just with you. MAYBE the first mission could have him, as well, if Vanguard decided to trace the Heretic there. Unfortunately, my arc is at 99% capacity at the moment, so I don't think I can put another detail there. If we ever get more space, I'll think about increasing his presence a little bit. At the moment, though, I kind of like his "Chekov's Gun" status. You're given a hint that he may do something drastic and given just enough time to forget about him before he appears again and "fires" as it were.

Anyway, thanks again! Good luck getting the rest of the way to 50!

EDIT: MowDownJoe, have you tried making a custom group made exclusively of the Dwarf and Nova bosses and naming the group "Nictus"? That may make things a little too difficult, but you could also include Council Galaxy Lts. and minions to even things out, I suppose. Lanaru Elementals might work as well, if you're looking for the puffball look that the Unbound Nictus have.
