  1. I vote time bomb. sonic repulsion actually has a use on some version of MoSTF's.
Just about every PBAoE KB Only Power Sucks though. 3 sets have them!!!
    Repel - kinetics
FF has 2, though one of them is more useful
    and sonic replusion

Necropost...reviving 5 year old, should have been locked topic.

Something posted by Arcanaville that all take to be the word of God.

Something said by The Television that no one but Dr. Aeon can make any sence out of.

    BABS RULES!
  3. i have a stone/stone/fire tanker. they cant hurt him and he does well. i open with hurl boulder on the surgeon. i tremor and fireball the rest, with a few single target attacks here and there.

I also hear a SD/electric/pyre that is IO'd out kicks much tail.

I am pretty sure any tank combo could manhandle that wall, especially SS for rage and SD for the def and damage buff.

    have fun and good luck!

How many NPCs can you kill in an hour? How many PvPers can you kill in an hour?

This is why the only "sane" way of obtaining PvPIOs is to have a free-for-all where you take turns, like medic did, or overnight farming between two or more accounts in a zone as others have described.

I think a 1 in 50 PvP kill drop rate (2% chance) would probably seem about right for drops in true fights, but it would make farming ridiculously easy. And that is why the drop rate is unlikely to change.

It's a funny little conundrum: players farm them because that's the only reasonable way to get them, but the developers will never increase the drop rate to something reasonable because then farming them would be too easy.

That's why I am in favor of adding PvPIOs to the Siren's Bounty Market and allow bounty to be saved. Whether bounty should be earned in other zones is open to debate.

Doing so will make Siren's Call hop again and allow an alternative way to obtain PvPIOs that is directly related to PvP while keeping it difficult to farm. While you could still have a group take turns killing each other, they are bound to be attacked by other groups looking to collect bounty. Since bounty is based off of reputation and the bonus for taking out the game-named bounty, overnight farms would probably be less effective. Siren's is a smaller zone with less hiding places and more tough, roving NPCs that make it less than ideal for overnight farms.

Oh, and you would still have a chance to get lucky and have one drop for you.
I totally agree with you, except getting rid of PvPIO drops in the arena. Some folks just want to duel and fight in teams and not have to worry about getting ganked by a random scrapper. What I liked about my first few Arena PvP matches besides the swag farm was that I could fight who I want when I want in a controlled enviroment. Just like in other games....you can settle your differences without other people getting in the way.

Hopefully the dev's read your post and take it to heart. hopefully they will just slightly tweak the system and not change it.
  5. great post!
Glad someone has this figured out.
Does anyone think the same applys to pvp IO's?
  6. PM'd Castle about my purple drop issue...
"To my understanding, PVE Purples cannot drop off of PVP targets. "
I take his word for it....

So, is it the current understanding that drop rates average out to be about 1 for every 200 kills or so? if so, would that make it that you have a 0.5% chance per kill? Purple's, per Top Doc's thread "the purple answer" says 1 every 1500 minions or so.

What is the deal if this is so?

We're looking at the drop rate for people who actually participate in PvP. The drop rate is insanely broken because of people doing the above setup
The drop rate is bad because it was made that way.
Where ever there is something to be gained, others will be there for there chance to profit.
Time sinks keep the players around and the money rolling in.
Good luck to all of you who do it "the right way" on changing the status quo.

  9. I sent a PM to a DEV to ask if this is a possibility.

I doubt it myself, but it seems remotely possible.
I, for one, have gotten a mission ending drop that was in a different pool.
I have also gotten a purple for completing an ITF.
I tend to believe you, and every instance I mention may be false, but I have to wonder based on my past game experiences.

Probably either a bug or he had it prior, but it is worth checking. It would happen so rarely that it probably could not be reproduced with relyability.

again, it could be a nice incentive!!! just sayin'
  10. i do not disagree with you, yet i have to go with what i saw.
again, i saw it, and it happened. be the rational person like i intend to be and check it out.
maybe someone with a red name could positively confirm or deny this possibility.

p.s. lunar hawk (on virtue), if you are out there, you also were witness.

It happened on either saturday or sunday of this past week on virtue in the arena set 47-50. rated. We had about 10 people in that fight. My toon at the time was either breezy sparrowhawk, hot lil number, or elijah blake.

we were broadcasting on the main virtue channels.

why are people so quick to say no if they do not know with 100 percent accuracy?
  11. I do have to take this guy's word, but he did get the said purple while PVPing.
Once he got it, he posted it. Again, I am not making this up and yea, it is one guys word, and I somewhat trust him. It is just something to take into consideration and to be validated. maybe it is a bug. it could happen. who knows. next time, I will have everyone clear out their trays. if this is a verified actuality, it could be another pvp incentive!
    (hint hint dev's!!!)
  12. I do not think they would do something like that. That sounds pretty stupid. sorry.

The best we could hope for, honestly, is a slight bump in the drop rate.
I imagine it is close to the purple drop rate, but not near enough people do PvP.
Maybe they could lump purples and PvP IO's together or make the two buyable through the markets for some high amount of merits or such. The dev's actions, with the exception of the whole craftable accessorys recipee thing, show that they care not about inflation or cost. People can say what they want, but your actions and track record is what you will be judged on.

The whole point of them is a time sink, and for them to be a "oh snap I just got a drop!" moment. The dev's are in this to keep their jobs. No one works for free, really. Rare stuff is supposed to be rare. Even in WoW, you can do a whole instance, but you have to roll just for a chance to get something nice. At least you KNOW you have that chance.

In the end, things will stay as is, and if people are going to buy things off market and pay real money to get game stuff, then so be it. If they make these to where they bind on pickup, that would probably incite a riot. however, I do not put that past them for a second.
  13. Me and the guys in my lil clique had fun over the weekend in the arena doing what we call "fight clubing".

I am sure this is old news, but we basicly did a rated 30 minute match with 10-12 players, sometimes we had up to 20. I wrote down the names and we each took turns killing everyone in succession. we averaged 1-3 drops as a whole per session. We picked an easy map like atlas and had everyone huddle up. after each person had thier chance, we finished with a free for all. I got me a gladiator recipe i sold for about 53 mil and that funded half of my cheap build. One guy got a purple, which he sold for quite a bit.

All in all we had fun, helped the market, and learned a new, funner way of doing things.
Some people wanted to not be a team player, and they got booted next round and /gignored.

one thing I did learn is that a electric/shield/blaze scrapper is a total BEAST if done right in this setting. This set up managed to KO most everyone in just a few seconds. Also, a plant/earth/psy is a formidable build in this method also. Kin's of all types had no issues either. By going with AoE builds and doing mass farm/clubing, this would help flood the market and lower prices, which in turn helps everyone.

just a thought. If anyone has any questions, just ask...but be forewarned I am old to the game but very new to PvP. wrong or right, we had tons of fun and made serious cash! :-)
  14. with lag and having to have things set up just right, i do not see too many people breaking the 20 minute mark. I think anything under 30 is outstanding in it's own.
I wouldn't mind seeing people who knock out some sub 25 minute ones. If you make this challenge across all servers, you might see more responces. maybe a catchy name like the "100 million infamy under 17 minute challenge or something. you can always jump servers and deliver money then jump back before 1 march.
  15. If yall don't mind...I would like to see someone set up a Kin/arch/psi def and try one of these builds out. If i had money or something, i would set a reward for the best and most effecient defender farmer build. For any of you who have a lot of inf, I challenge you to see what build can do the best (whether or not you include purples, doesnt matter,i can not afford them). Find a AE or farm type mission that anyone can access, set it to +0/8 and either make a video or post the build with the stats on completion time.

We all know just about every AT but us has the ways and means, but i would love to someone try and eek out the best defender farming killing machine possible.

BTW, the question of this thread was that IF DEF's could farm, what build would be the absolute best. I will also set in and make a DEF just for this purpose. I will post another thread sometime as I get close to lvl 50. For all of you with more time on your hands and who consider yourselves a step above the rest in playing ability, consider this a challenge. no rewards to be won, just bragging rights.

    Let the games begin!
  16. If going rogue allows you to convert over, ill be ditching defenders and thier weak *** damage for corruptors. I know defenders are better buffers, but the thought of being almost a blaster and still being able to buff myself and my team makes the idea very nice sounding.
I think kin/archery/psi or dark/dark is about as close as a defender gets...
however doesnt a corrupter have access to the same powersets basicly, but with more damage?
If so, I see the possibilities!
  17. just grab the mass sleep in the epic to help with FS. Also, you might want to get plenty of DEF any way possible.
  18. It seems that every At but defenders have some sort of farming build..
    from a Fire/kin or fire/rad controller
    to a Fire/fire tank
    to a spine/regen scrapper
or a archery or fire/MM blaster

If a defender was going to have a farm build, what one would be the closest?
What would the build look like?
My guess would be a KIN/Dark/Psy
You have capped damage, a cone immob, a group sleep...
You would have to take the fighting pool and hasten plus fitness.
Plus with dark you knock down the opponents Tohit

    Thoughts? Builds?

    MISSION ARC's

I want to know about the best that CoH has to offer.
If you start a guy at level one, sewer team him to six...What Contacts and what misison arcs are some that you all love and whouldnt miss on the way to lvl 50?
For me, I like the one in faultline where you get to blow up the submarines and take in that arbiter you have to fight a few times. I also like fighting frostfire in the hollows, but I hate the path to get to him. I also wouldnt mind doing more missions in faultline, stringa isle, and the shard. A few of the PI missions are good and have great replay value.
(geting to fight the AV's and such...especially siege. That guy sucks!!) The freakshow missions are a great batch as well, as are the whole lot of croatoa missions.
If you all very knowledgeable people could..maybe post the mission arc, how you get to him/her, and what lvl the mission is. maybe include some of those rarer missions and any that give you accolades and temp powers.
This way I could make an all-star path to 50 that I could try out.
I would like everyones imput, because each person likes something different and has something interesting to add to this discussion!

    Mob Weaknesses

Thanks all. Mainly, i am trying to squeeze every ounce of damage out of her.

With all the targeted AoE damage, and my disdain for all the sets...except the expensive one, I was thinking of sloting all the attacks 3 dam/range HO, and 3 with a mix of ACC and Recharge.

The thunderstrike set six slotted takes care of the single target stuff.

Whats the best way to frankenslot Targeted AoE attacks (6 Slotted) to maximize damage, range, recharge, and still have some ACC? (since i can not afford the whole positron set)

    Mob Weaknesses

Is it possible to find out the particular weaknesses of any enemy group or rank on the game? I wonder if each type of critter has a weakness..I know alot are resistant to all sorts of things, but I would like to think for RP sake that each group has its strengths and weaknesses...like fire critters being even against fire, strong againt ice or maybe tough against debuffs. I think everything in the game should have a strength and a weakness that can be used during battle.

anyhow, back to the original question....i know soldiers of aracnos have a power that lets you see stats of enemies, but what all does it tell you? Is it going to be trial and error for me to find out what hurts what?

BTW, the original reason for this question was trying to up the damage output of my AR/NRG blaster...i noticed on one mission her melee was twice as effective as her ranged blasts.

    Thanks!

EDIT: Pictures and detailed explanations are very welcome!!!!

(Personally, I'd push on the Devices end of things and hope the fix translated to Traps. Because I do believe that Dev is underperforming by Blaster secondary standards, and that's a pretty low bar.)
the problem is that the rest of traps powers are quite good in of themselves. I can see where they are going with the set theme and idea. I just think time bomb is a horrible power whether on a blaster or defender. Find me some one sane who would rather take time bomb than fulcrum shift or any other great tier nine power.

and trip mine is actually a very awesome power. i can see the point of that power, and used together with itself and other powers, it rocks! maybe the set isn't such a mishmosh like i said after re-evaluating what i said.

When you rate each of the tier nines, some are just awesome: AB, fulcrum shift, dark servant,
Some are so-so: emp arrow, em pulse, lightning storm, force bubble, liquify, heat loss (slow reactivation time...)

then there is time bomb, which DOES do the most damage of any of them, but has a big chance to fail, requires proper timing, and requires you to be double stealthed just to plant it within close range without phase shift...which requires you to waste power selections just to be able to do it. (phase shift is part of a great pool, but not everyone wants it i would assume.)

thats about all i can think of to say about it. if i had my way, i would make it a control det. power. at least you then have control over it...or maybe shorten the times some. i dont know, but as is it is a novelty at best.
