Quote:I agree it probably would have been better to have explained the problem first or link the original thread(s) explaining the issue. Not everybody might have realized what was going on. I only knew about it because I encountered it myself and posted in the original thread.... but at least we're on the same page now. lolFrom reading the OP's post, it wasn't clear that this was the point being made.
Anyway... to finish things off, I might as well provide the link to the previous thread. In it, I provided some help of my own for those who can't see the PPD to begin with.
No One Left Behind -
Is that enhancement already 3 levels above your current level? If so, that's why it wont let you upgrade it.
For example, if you are level 32, and placed a level 35 enhancement in the slot, it will still allow you to bring up the Combination mode, but it wont accept an upgrade on that enhancement.
Then again, the enhancement wouldn't "light up" like you said it does.
Try the alternate method to upgrade enhancements:
Drag the new enhancement from your tray directly on top of the one you are trying to upgrade. If valid, that should automatically bring up the Combination screen and slot them for you. Then it's just a matter of pressing the "Combine!" button.
If that still doesn't work, the only thing I can think of is you are trying to upgrade the enhancement with an invalid combination. Is there any way you can get a screenshot of the Combination screen for us? Maybe we can figure out why it's not compatible. (PrtScr, then paste into an image program like Paintbrush). -
Quote:That's exactly his point. GhoulSlayer only listed his specs to show Addicted that good computers still have issues too.Your rig doesn't matter. You'll get lag at that point in the ITF on a million-dollar supercompting gaming rig, and you'll get it on a seven-year-old laptop. It's not your computer that's the problem. The problem is that the combination of enemies, powers, and the map leave the CoH server temporarily overloaded.
(Maybe you meant to quote Addicted instead?)
It's Addicted that seems to think everybody needs to upgrade their systems to fix the issue. Then again, since Addicted said they "do not generally" suffer power lag on the ITF, it kinda implies they DO have the issue at times too... which is really the point of this thread. He admitted it, whether he meant to or not. -
Quote:And I still disagree. The badge is to save the PPD that are laying on the ground, but they are not necessarily dead. The bug/issue is the fact that escorts and other objectives now get damaged by AoE damage before you have a chance to even locate them, which causes these PPD to be killed (and then vanish from the map). When that happens, the objective becomes impossible to complete, and sometimes it's out of our hands. You said that you were able to click the corpse and tell him to get out and that it earned the badge.
You only earn badges if you complete the objectives, which you did by clicking the corpse. You got the badge for the teammate.
It's either impossible to complete or it isn't. You proved it isn't impossible, but you later say it is and completely contradict yourself. Badges often have difficult objectives in order to earn them. This one is difficult but not impossible.
Still seems to be WAI to me.
[FWIW, there are several other missions I've found to be broken this way since GR as well. If it's actually a new intended policy, it isn't very clear, and they should have at least made such legacy missions fail instead of ending up with a cleared map and no objective to complete the mission]
Anyway... We're not saying the mission itself is always impossible to complete, only that certain circumstances and unlucky spawn points sometimes cause it to be. I had the problem myself and had to run it about 3 or 4 times to get the badge.. not because I couldn't find them or wasn't fast enough, but because the PPD died before I even found him. When I finally got the badge, it happened to be because I was lucky enough not to have any of them spawn behind the boss. It shouldn't rely on lucky spawns.
I don't think the act of them being able to die before you even see them is something that is WAI. It's not fair to "get them all" and not get credit just because you took a left turn and happened to be close enough (through walls) for one to spawn and die, and is gone before you even get around to the other room to find him.
Either way, like I said in my last post, I don't think the OP's point was really to bring up this as an issue again, but instead just to let people know that you can still complete it by clicking the "dead" ones (before they vanish). If I had realized this before, I probably would have earned the badge sooner, because I was too annoyed that my objective died to realize that it might still be valid before it vanished. lol
WAI or not, it's still good to know. -

If I'm not mistaken, the trial codes actually force you to create a Praetorian first (the other options are locked until you create your first character).
But it might depend on the specific trial code. Older ones might not give access, but I don't know for sure. I haven't used one myself in a while, so hopefully somebody else will chime in and let us know. -
The problem was that some of them die (from AoE) and disappear before you notice where they are. This results in that objective not being possible. I guess the OP is just saying you can still get credit from a dead one too, so don't lose hope if you see one of them die.. CLICK IT FAST! lol

Quote:You are correct, and yes they changed the AI a while back and those foes now kill you with a second attack. The Rikti Boss method involved using the Chief with the rounded shoulder pads, IIRC....
It's been a few years since I've done this; not sure if it's still viable, they may have mixed up the attack chain to prevent this...
As for the Brute.. I hear it's still a good option, but I have not personally tried it. -
Quote:That's all good and true, but graphics/network lag isn't the only kind of lag we experience during ITF or ship raids. Often times (as mentioned) it's the server itself that has the hiccup and causes "time itself" to slow down. That's what causes the powers to be "recharging" when it looks like it's recharged already on our clients. It's this type of lag that is pretty much unavoidable.I'm in USA and on a solid and stable broadband connection. 30Mb/s down and 5 Mb/s up
I also use a quad core i5 coupled with a gtx 580 and do not generally suffer lag or power lag on the ITF.
I'm only sending this out to let people know that it's entirely possible to not lag on the ITF in ULTRA settings.
Good luck resolving your issues.
Granted, that doesn't always happen, and it is indeed graphics lag that plagues most of the people, so it's not that you don't have a point.. many people with decent systems wont notice the issues as often... it's just that it's very possible to lag on a top-notch machine too, even if you were right in the same room as the server. That's just the nature of things, and there isn't much we (as players) can do about it. -
I'm waiting for my 60 month Vet (in 3 more months) for the "free" travel power before I bother spending time on any respecs. That way I kill 2 birds with 1 stone.. And even then I might not even do it right away. lol
On a positive note, a few of my characters never even had Fitness to begin with (including my main), so it took no effort to simply throw an enhancement in the free slots that came with the new set and call it a day. It's a nice little bonus for those toons. -
As mentioned, "breaking" Rom actually means breaking the Nictus so that they wont follow Rom. When done correctly, you can even taunt them and purposely try to pull them away, and they just wont follow very far. (The pets spawned by one of them will follow though, but as long as it isn't agroed, it wont spawn them.)
I could be wrong, but unless the mechanic changed at some point, I don't think that ever actually worked. That was one of the first tactics people tried when the TF first came out (OMG almost 3 years ago now), but we found that attempting to kill the healing Nictus first just resulted in one of the other Nictus consuming itself to rez the healing Nictus anyway. It still results in a dead Nictus, but not the one you thought was going to be out of the picture (unless neither of the others are in LoS of the healing Nictus).
Quote:There's not really a better way one way or the other in my opinion, it just depends on the team makeup and the players.
In the long run, the method isn't so important as simply having everybody on the same page. -
Quote:I dunno. Calling it a "rather slow" method is quite an exaggeration. I still get 20 minute times doing it my way anyway, and I've only seen the method you describe done once or twice out of the dozen times I've run it this week (one of which failed miserably), so I see no reason to stop breaking him. I usually pull more "Romans" off the sides during the fight, which makes the little time it does take him to rez not even wasted anyway. YMMVKilling the Nictus is actually faster than killing Rom, due to the delayed resurrection time. Rom-Nictus-Nictus-Rom is the new "speed strategy", I believe. Bring enough AoE and they may die simultaneously anyway. Most "speed" teams don't even bother to try to break Rom these days.
In the end, it really does depend on the team anyway. The nictus actually rez each other too, and if somebody happens to be killing the wrong one when it consumes itself, that effort becomes a waste of time. If you have the right mix and people are on the same page, then taking them out simultaneously can indeed be faster... but when you factor in most PuGs, keeping Rom separate can be quite beneficial.
Either way, this wasn't about which way is better or faster, it was about "how is that done?" anyway... and regardless if Rom is actually pulled away or not, the act of "breaking" the spawn doesn't hurt anything either. -
Quote:I've still been using it for speed runs, but only pulling him to the center of the area. As long as I get there a few seconds before the rest of the team, it still works like a charm to take him down in less time without all the "Nictus-Nonsense". Pulling him all the way up the hill is only just for fun and during Master runs to prevent problems from ambushes and side-agro.It's a useful strategy for a team of mostly squishies, a low damage team, and/or a Master Of run, but it's rather slow for a "speed" ITF.
That said.. I'm in for this.. on Tabby of course. -
I believe this issue used to be in the /gmotd, but I'm not sure it was ever resolved. (Apparently not, since you still encountered it).
In my personal experience*, this only happened to me when there was a change in leadership before the TF began. For example: "Pass star to me so I can invite my friend". In some cases, if that former leader is the one that drops off the team, it might reset the progression of the TF, resulting in a repeated mission.
If I started with a single person inviting the whole team and then starting the TF (like you did when you re-started the ITF), I never encountered the issue, no matter who dropped.
*I'm not completely sure if this is the reason or not. I can only provide info about a trend that I noticed. Whether or not my trend is purely imaginary, or if the server somehow mixes up who is the true TF leader.. your guess is as good as mine. -

Quote:That list was taken off the old forum's FAQ I still have in favorites. I didn't see it listed on the new forum anywhere when it was first changed, and we assumed they were roughly the same. I left off "Cuppa Incarnate" because we already knew it wasn't on the new forum. Apparently they did make some other modifications at some point as well.Except the OP has 162 posts and the rank of Apprentice, which doesn't appear on your list at all.

I have noticed no difference in trends before or after slotting Tier 3/4 nor before/after today's update. I have also not noticed any difference in drop rates while dead/in-debt (as another thread claimed).
However.. they did nerf Accuracy again.. d00000m! lol -

Quote:Gratz! and same here! Finally got Partner, bringing me right on to 1200 badges. No other badges to obtain now other than the vet ones, so the badger in me can now relax and altitis can resume! =D
Master-Blade hit 1200 with Partner earlier tonight, and cannot get any more except Vet. Luckily, my next Vet is due in about 2 more days. lol
As for altitis.. that's going to have to wait a while. I still have Teal Tabby and Robin Rogue to work on. Both of them are hovering the high 1180s with a handful of work left to do. Considering that includes about 30 more TFs each, and the last Invention badges, I don't foresee them hitting the mark before new badges are added anyway. lol
See you on the battlefield... or at least around the City! -
Using the old launcher, yes. You'd add a command like "-screen 16580 1050" (for example) to the shortcut, but I am unsure about how to do it with the new launcher. I know we can add the extra commands inside the new launcher but as for how to add 2 separate customizations, I haven't yet tried.
Edit:
If you know about the registry (and are comfortable changing it), you might be able create a *.reg file for each resolution, and then load one before opening each instance of the launcher. It's an extra step, but the only other thing I can think of at the moment. -
Quote:I'd say it's broken. If a higher level attempts to start the TF, it doesn't even give an error message or anything explaining that they are too high to host it. Instead, it acts just like you are starting the TF, with the exception that you aren't actually assigned the mission. For the record, it's not broken. It's WAI.
It's unique, but not broken.
Even if you are trying to say that it's intended to only be able to host it at certain levels, the mechanic itself is still broken anyway. -
If I were you, I'd send Verify Files and if it still happens, send in a /bug report.
The last time I saw something like that was when the chat interface was changed/updated in i12, and there was a lot of nasty stuff going on.
