Sign me up as TBA. I may bring a lowbie that I know can handle the Cims or I may bring something that laughs at Cims. Dunno.

I'm in. Assuming we are running this twice, I'll bring Golden Jade: Claw/WP Scrapper and Lady Nocturne: Fortunata to the runs. If we need debuffs I can switch off to a frad. Before things get nutty, I'll say that I don't feel comfortable leading a "Master of" team, so you'll need to look for another leader if we end up with more than one team.

Just what exactly IS Master-Blade's Rom-Breaking Method?

Aggro Romulus (and only Romulus) right as he spawns, before he links to his Nictus pets. This makes it so those Nictus don't follow him around the map, healing and spamming AoE damage. MB usually pulls Rom all the way up the hill (still keeping line of sight on the Nictus), others usually just pull him to the middle of the courtyard. The important thing to remember is to keep him in line of sight of the Nictus or else he won't resurrect and auto-defeat them himself.

It's a useful strategy for a team of mostly squishies, a low damage team, and/or a Master Of run, but it's rather slow for a "speed" ITF.

I'd love to give this a try, put me down for Bluman my SS/DA Brute. I'll bring lot's of greens to make sure I don't die.

Put me down as an Alt. I'd bring Trixi Chalk, a katana/wp scrapper.

I've still been using it for speed runs, but only pulling him to the center of the area. As long as I get there a few seconds before the rest of the team, it still works like a charm to take him down in less time without all the "Nictus-Nonsense". Pulling him all the way up the hill is only just for fun and during Master runs to prevent problems from ambushes and side-agro.

That said.. I'm in for this.. on Tabby of course.

Killing the Nictus is actually faster than killing Rom, due to the delayed resurrection time. Rom-Nictus-Nictus-Rom is the new "speed strategy", I believe. Bring enough AoE and they may die simultaneously anyway. Most "speed" teams don't even bother to try to break Rom these days.

I dunno. Calling it a "rather slow" method is quite an exaggeration. I still get 20 minute times doing it my way anyway, and I've only seen the method you describe done once or twice out of the dozen times I've run it this week (one of which failed miserably), so I see no reason to stop breaking him. I usually pull more "Romans" off the sides during the fight, which makes the little time it does take him to rez not even wasted anyway. YMMV

In the end, it really does depend on the team anyway. The nictus actually rez each other too, and if somebody happens to be killing the wrong one when it consumes itself, that effort becomes a waste of time. If you have the right mix and people are on the same page, then taking them out simultaneously can indeed be faster... but when you factor in most PuGs, keeping Rom separate can be quite beneficial.

Either way, this wasn't about which way is better or faster, it was about "how is that done?" anyway... and regardless if Rom is actually pulled away or not, the act of "breaking" the spawn doesn't hurt anything either.

Beorn - I didn't put you on the list, because you didn't say you wanted to join - just let me know if you want in.

Post - I put you on the alt list, but just wanted to let you know we will most likely run two teams (at least for the first run - we'll see how things go after that). Not sure if you said alt because you thought we were full.

-----------------

As mentioned, I expanded the sign-up list to two teams - I'll need someone to step in to lead the additional team. Any volunteers?

OK, what do we mean by "break Romulus?"

So...people aren't killing the heal nictus first anymore? I've only run it twice this week and we didn't either time. But on one we were 8 FRads, and hell, I'm not sure what we did but it all died.

Edit: I finished my second build on Trixi Chalk, so I can be put down as in, or just as a eager alt.

Scroll up to around post #6 in this thread for a description of breaking Romy. Basically we trick the game into breaking his pets (the nictus) off of him so that they do not bug us while we fight him. He then kills them himself each time he rezzes.

And as you can see above, there is much debate about which way is better or what not. There's not really a better way one way or the other in my opinion, it just depends on the team makeup and the players. Just the way some of us tend to do it, and E was mentioning it so that the team will know what to expect. =)

Please sign me and bigggreenogre up. I'll either bring my fire/rad corr (Toxsyn) or my (perma) dom (Stayk Shift) and he'll bring his brute (Power-Shift).

As mentioned, "breaking" Rom actually means breaking the Nictus so that they wont follow Rom. When done correctly, you can even taunt them and purposely try to pull them away, and they just wont follow very far. (The pets spawned by one of them will follow though, but as long as it isn't agroed, it wont spawn them.)

I could be wrong, but unless the mechanic changed at some point, I don't think that ever actually worked. That was one of the first tactics people tried when the TF first came out (OMG almost 3 years ago now), but we found that attempting to kill the healing Nictus first just resulted in one of the other Nictus consuming itself to rez the healing Nictus anyway. It still results in a dead Nictus, but not the one you thought was going to be out of the picture (unless neither of the others are in LoS of the healing Nictus).

I completely agree. It's kinda like how people use different methods for the Reichsman battles, or for the Weakened Hamidon. The "best" method can change depending on several other variable circumstances.

In the long run, the method isn't so important as simply having everybody on the same page.

Mr E, Please sign up my husband on Kromlech: WP/Mace Tank. There's a slight chance he might back out or not make it, but he seems to want to come along, as of right now.

Edit: And please stick him on the same team as me. I like to keep an eye on him =P

I was just informed that one of my SG mates wants to join as well. @Mane is his global. He's the husband of @Miss Heavenly. Not sure what he's bringing. Assume a scrapper or tank. He's not familiar w/ the TF, so he should not be the main tank.

We had two teams run the first round - my team was successful, but unfortunately team two was not:

MoITF One: 03/19/2011 - Success

The Team:

Neon Widow
Golden Jade
Kromlech
Power-Shift
Toxsyn
Sevenpenny
Supreme Soviet
Flaming Dart

Our second run, we had just the one team, and were also successful!

MoITF Two: 03/19/2011 - Success

The Team:

Beauty in a Bubble
Radiant Flame Imp
Wandering Samurai
Teal Tabby
Aussie Fauna
Luchs.
Giubileo del Paragon
Rex Obscura

For our last run, people were waning & we couldn't fill out the team, so we ran with six people, but the results remained the same: Success!

MoITF Three: 03/19/2011 - Success

The Team:

Proto Charge
LadyNocturne
Teal Tabby
Hatake Kasumi
Golden Gryphon.
Night's Assassin

Congrats to everyone that earned badges throughout the night, along with the notice of the wells & shards & at least one purple drop that I know of!

Thanks for joining everyone - I will have something posted for next week up the beginning part of the week.
