Quote:As mentioned, I think you were looking at the wrong item.I coverted several items. It says 2-3 not 1.
It's a Conversion not a Breakdown!!
I quoted the text in my original response:
Quote:Hero 1 DNA Sample Breakdown
Breaks down a common Alpha Incarnate Component into an Incarnate Shard. -
Quote:I never meant to imply that I thought getting a single shard was fair. I just wanted to stress why the OP shouldn't have expected an "even exchange", and be grateful there is any kind of exchange available at all.I think the point the OP is making is .. Regardless of where the component came from.. NC SOFT expects me to use 4 shards to BUILD a Hero One DNA sample if I need one. NC SOFT expects me to spend 150 Vanguard Merits to build a Grai' Matter. BUT if I have a Hero One Dna and break it down I get ONE shard. Basically that's like saying they charge us 75% of the face value of a component if we wish to turn it into something else. Sort of a REALLY bad service fee there don't you think?
I agree with everybody else here saying 50% would have been more reasonable, but I was only responding to the OP's question of why it wasn't equal. -
Quote:Thanks for that link. It's a pretty neat program. I think I'm going to use it for my Task Manager also.Process Explorer is what I use as my task manager.. you can download it from www.sysinternals.com
...
...
you can choose for it to show priority, but it will do it as a numerical value (as windows itself manages it)
...
It took me a minute to find the option, but it does display the priority on a table (and has an "always on top" option). I just tested and re-verified that cityofheroes.exe does indeed change from 6 to 8 depending on whether or not it has Focus. It only runs on 8 (Normal) while it has focus. Even as much as opening the taskbar makes CoH's priority change to 6 (BelowNormal). -
Quote:Even if it could, the "always on top" option would allow you to see it while using only a single monitor. The second screen is still unnecessary.Right, I am aware of 'Focus' I had hoped that task manager could show the process priority on real time, not buried in a menu.
Quote:I took a quick look for a utility that would show processes and their priority, so I could stick it on the other monitor and watch it change, then I got bored with it.
Anyone know a process monitor tool that will show the priority and update in real time?
I guess if such a program does not have a "always on top" option, then your second monitor would become useful in that regard. -
Quote:That's not true. Even at level 50, you still have only 95% chance of hitting a level 1.Strictly thats only against even level foes - if you are fighting +3 your max to-hit will be lower as will your minimum. Conversely if you are fighting greys then your max will be higher than 95%
Regardless that the numbers can scale to give you an advantage against lower foes (and disadvantage against higher), the actual caps are still the same.

Quote:Having focus doesn't just mean it's the application "on top" of the screen. It means that it's the application currently accepting input from the keyboard. Even if you have 2 monitors, only one program will have focus, so you'd still run into the same problem anyway. Once you check the Task Manager, CoH will switch priority, even if it's on another screen.I have two monitors, I will check that out and see if it does switch as the game goes in and out of focus.
One way you CAN check this though (even if you use one screen).. is to set your Task Manager Options to "Always on Top", and make sure the cityofheroes.exe process is visible on the list. Click on the game window to give it focus again, and then right click directly on cityofheroes.exe to check the priority. At the moment you click, the priority status hasn't changed yet, so you will see it's set to "Normal". If you check it after Task Manager already has focus, you'd see "BelowNormal".
You'll have to do it "just right" to notice how it works and see the correct results, but that's just the nature of it. -
Fixed.
Since the AI was changed some time last year(?), those Rikti bosses now use 2 attacks and kill you, so that's no good anymore. (Unless it changed again)
I have not done any damage farming since the change, but I do have a character that still needs it, so maybe I'll give that Brute a try when I finally get around to it. -
You weren't "randomly transferred to another map". The border of Peregrine transports you to Talos Island. That part is intended. In fact, back before Ouro was released, a quick shortcut from Portal Corp to Talos was to head East toward the border. It was quick and convenient.
Usually, you'd be placed at the Ferry in Talos, but since the last issue, it seems to be broken. As you have found out, it sometimes brings you a location outside of the War Walls instead. I've bugged it and a few other people have made similar threads about it as well.
I'm sure it'll be fixed Soon™. lol -
Actually, I've been paying attention to it more, and I did notice those power lines visible on a different map. Why they would be made invisible on the map I was on earlier is anybody's guess. Same goes for the Rikti computers. They are visible on some maps, and invisible on others, but you can stand on top of them in both cases. I don't think they have anything to do with lighting.

From your other post in the Tech forum:
Quote:CoH usually functions at "Normal" Priority, but as soon as it loses focus (like opening the Windows Task Manager to check/set the priority) it's moved to "BelowNormal". That makes people think it's running that way while you are playing when it actually isn't. It moves back to "Normal" as soon as it has focus again. -

Many of the Rikti Maps have a hole in them as well. There is one particular type of "room" that doesn't exactly line up with the hallways, so when they are put together, the ceilings don't match, allowing you to jump right out of the map.
Example:
SmoothCaves-Rikti_45_Layout_01
(-772, 64, 547: Facing West)
On a side note.. it appears the Rikti maps also have some kind of invisible Power system that you can only see from outside the map. It's purpose is not evident to me. lol:
There are other invisible objects right in the middle of the hallway:
You can even collide with the objects in the hallway.
You can see it's edges in the Rikti's shadow as it stands on the object:
There are other objects that I have noticed before, but they aren't on the map I'm currently on to provide pictures. The floating Rikti "Computer" is a common one. It even gives off a glow that you can see on the floor, even though you can't see the object itself. If you see that glowing spot in corners of hallways or dead-ends, try jumping on top of it. -
I think the idea is to be able to break down the Component rewards from TFs into regular shards so we can change them into something else that we needed. If the breakdown was an even trade for what it takes to make them, there would be no point for each of the TFs having a different reward at the end. They would have just given us a number of regular shards instead.
Hero 1 DNA Sample Breakdown
Breaks down a common Alpha Incarnate Component into an Incarnate Shard.
They are not supposed to be equal. There is a price for everything.
If you crafted a bunch of Components that you didn't need, you made a bad decision.
If you got the Hero 1 DNA Sample from running LGTF, then you didn't pay 4 Shards for it anyway.
Getting 1 Shard that you can use for anything is still better than having a Component that you don't have any use for. -
Thanks for hosting.

How did you get a picture of my roof?

Quote:I've seen quite a few people with the 4th Tier on Freedom already. One of the teams I was on this evening even had 4 people with 4th tier.I only know one person who got a double Notice on Victory
In the end, it shouldn't really be a big deal. Everybody else will just have it next week anyway. lol -
Common issue would be to check if you are in SG mode or not.
-
As far as I am aware, the Vanguard Merits are drops, and we would not receive partial credit for them. A Boss is worth 3 Merits, so you'd either get 3, or not get any at all. If it looks like you only got 1 Merit for a Boss, it's likely it was actually awarded as a mission completion bonus when the Boss was defeated.
Either that or the Vanguard drops broke when the Shard drops were added to the tables. I don't know how it would really affect it, but you never know. I haven't really paid enough attention to it lately to know the difference though. -
Quote:No problem at all. That's an issue that has shown up randomly since Issue 12. Some players experience it frequently, while others never have a problem at all.I just tried Master-Blade's workaround and it worked PERFECTLY. I'm not sure what I lost in that old file, but there is now a new one with my account name on it. Should I just keep it as is, toss the old file or just leave it renamed there?
Thanks, Master-Blade. You made my day.
As for what the files are:
playerslot.txt is the character positions after the server select screen.
That's probably why you were crashing at that point. As it tries to load a corrupted file, it doesn't know where to place your characters and just throws a fit. To correct this, I usually suggest people arrange the characters the way you want them to stay, then right click on that file (Properties) and make it "Read Only". That will prevent the client from corrupting the file and your characters will always be in that position each time you log in.
playernotes.txt is where our judgment on other players is notated. When you rate another character or make a note about them, it's saved in this file for your own uses. Nobody else has access to that information. If you had some notes in there before and want to save this information, simply copy it back into the new directory.
I don't remember if there is anything else that gets saved in the account folder. If there is, I don't use them, because I don't have anything besides the playerslot. Costumes, power customization, and AE missions are saved in their own directories and unaffected by the rename you did earlier. -
You are not dropped from the roster unless you are kicked or quit. As long as no other characters in the supergroup log in, your leadership status should be reinstated when you switch back.
-
When you crash, the client stops sending messages to the server, but the server is still waiting for a response. When you try to log back in before it times out, it's still waiting, so it gives you the message that you are still logged in. It's just a side effect of the disconnect.
As for the crashing issue to begin with, try this:
Check your CityofHeroes directory for another folder with your account name on it.
Rename it temporarily and try to log back in again.
If it allows you to log in, then you probably had a corrupted playerslot.txt (or other) file in that directory.
That's why it only affects your account and not hers. -
I mentioned it seemed to be corrected a couple issues back... or at least that was my observation as well.
Edit to add link/quote:

But the way it works right now, even small damage like 10 HP is credited toward the damage badge, so you don't have to overcome your bonus HP as it was in the past. -
If you don't like it, then yes.
On the other hand, I love my lolRegen characters, and have run Kahn several times over the past few days without much issue.
As a side note, it sounds like your issue is actually more about lag than anything else, to which more than just Regen would suffer from. -

Edit:
On a side note, I was just reading through the Wiki just to update myself on stuff I may have missed on the boards, and it seems there is a handful of items on the list that might be working as intended, so it's not necessarily just a list of bugs, but a list of "strange policies" also. lol
