I just got my first level 50 - now what? Is there a guide or list of things to focus on? Which missions do people run for fun/cash/rare drops? What do people tend to do at 50?
Thanks - I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed by all of the IO Set options, etc. -
tyvm!
I don't suppose there is a guide with a build I could use? I am new to all the set bonuses and really do not know what the 'good' sets are. I'm usually pretty good at figuring these things out myself but with the bonuses spread all over the sets I have no clue how to combine them and make sure I have enough of the right defenses, etc to keep from gimping my favorite character. -
Oh my dear sweet lord that is confusing
I think the first thing I need to do is start to stockpile cash so I can buy all these recipes. Any advice on how to do that? I know fire/kin is good for 'farming' but I do not know which maps I should be running.
Thanks again. -
I've played CoX for 42 months but I just got my first 50 today - a fire/kin. So I am somewhat clueless about some aspects of the game - any advice?
1) Enhancement Sets: I have never played with the set bonuses - I've just used the standard IO enhancements. Any advice on how to start gearing up for the sets?
2) Epic Pool: I've used the Psi Epic Pool to get the Mezz protection - is this the best pool for a fire/kin?
3) General Build: I've used a pretty standard build - heavy use of Flash-fire & Cinders, then Fulcrum Shift, Hot Feet, and Imps to burn down groups. I use Psi Tornado as an additional AOE. Now that I am 50 are there any tweaks?
I have a respec saved up so if there is a cookie cutter build I'd love to use it.
Thanks for helping a 42 month veteran who still really has no clue how to play this game -
Thank you - I am not into farming but if I have to go that route to get a team, are there specific AE missions to look for?
-
Thank you!
So do you think my best bet is:
1) Advertise that a group is forming in my server Global channel
2) Say that it is an AE team in Atlas Park so everyone knows where to go
3) Form team, then just choose one of the highest ranked missions
I am not into mega-farming - just fun teaming - so I imagine choosing the 'dev choice' missions will work for me.
Yes? Do I need to say what level I am or that it is non-farm/non-aoe in the invite? Any other tips?
Thanks again. -
I just got back after a long absence. What is the best way to form teams these days? Do people tend to run AE missions, radio missions, or something else?
I like CoX best when I am on a team. I am just not sure what the best way to form groups is.
Thanks for advice
PS: I like to team on a 47 Fire/Kin and a lowbie Ice/Storm mostly - not sure if that matters. -
What is the easiest way to save and load settings and key-binds? I was a little confused by the number of 'Save Options' buttons in the Options panel. There is a Save Options at the bottom of each tab - do they save for just that tab? What about the separate 'Save Options' buttons that are specifically in the Chat Settings and Windows Settings areas?
I want to set up a whole bunch of key-binds, chat options, and window options and then use that as my default for alts. I seem to keep screwing it up - over-righting what I want, somehow loading my Chat Options fine but reverting key-binds to the default, etc.
Thanks! -
I cannot thank you guys enough. Following your advice, here is what I did:
- Upgraded all 25 IOs to 45 IOs (cost about 15 mil)
- Repeced with more recharges in Flashfire so I can lead with it every fight
- Kept Tough and Weave each 3 slotted with Def/Res IOs
- Switched to the psi epic for the mezz protection and the psi armor
- Started popping Def insp before fights
- Started tracking who mezz'd and who I need to lock down better
Now it is much, much more fun. I love the action of the fire/kin - I am always on the edge of my seat. I can't just stand there and melt them - I need to be on top of Transfusion, my Siphons, etc. to stay ahead of the fight - not to catch up after it goes down hill.
The end result is I was able to set my diff to +1 and say I am equal to 3 heroes and have fun running missions.
I also joined the suggested Virtue LFG groups. I'll try them tonight now that I am all set again.
Thank you! The right spec and tactics make all the difference in the world -

I've started my fire/kin after a long break and I think she needs a respec. I have the basic build, but now that the fitness pool is free I was wondering about Tough, Maneuvers, Weave, etc.
My play style is casual - not a farmer. I solo even-con missions and like to team, so I am not a min-maxer.
So, with that in mind, is it worth it to layer Maneuvers, Combat Jumping, and Weave and heavily slot them? Seems like a lot of slots and endurance drain - not sure if it is worth it.
What about epic - a lot of people said go Psi for the mez protect armor - yes?
Thanks for any advice. -
Thanks all! Awesome advice across the board.

I started playing my 45 fire/kin after a long break. What defenses do I have against being held and stunned? As soon as I get in a block of ice, stunned, etc. I am dead in seconds. I don't mind a challenge and I am not a farmer by any means - just want to run normal missions. But - well, this is not fun.
I have my difficulty slider at -1 and myself set to 2 heroes. I have Weave, Maneuvers, and Combat Jumping. All level 25 IO enhancements (have not upgraded in a long while). I try to identify the 'controller' mob and Char him first but it seems like there are multiple mobs that can freeze, stun, or overall mess me up.
As a fire/kin once I can't move and lose my toggles, well....
Any advice? Otherwise I seriously do not think I want to play the character. To be honest, I got from 1 - 45 almost entirely teaming in the Mission Arch. I love teaming but I'm having trouble finding them so I am soloing more. Another fix would be to help me find teams
I tried joining some of the Virtue LFG channels but they're full and the /broadcast is hit or miss at best. I miss the days of walking into the Mission Arch building in Atlas and forming a team in seconds...ah, the salad days.
Thanks for any help! -
I just returned to CoH and want to start teaming again - one thing I loved about the Mission Architect was that you could walk in and have a team going in minutes.
I don't want power leveling, etc. Just an easy forum to group. What is my next best bet for a channel? Or place to broadcast? I am a 44 fire/kin that just loves fire/kin - not into farming or anything like that - just normal grouping.
ty all -
Thanks all. I did not know about the global channel - that rocks. I usually used to form my own groups in the past so that's not an issue. I wanted to make sure I was using the best method and the right server etiquette.
Thanks again. -
Thanks for the replies! Sad that they fixed on thing to mess up another. I think if I saw mercs or robots charge I might just cry...
But I really like necro and ninjas, so the glass is half full I suppose. -
Has the AI gotten better? One of the old issues was that ninjas would hang back and use their ranged wrist shots instead of going to melee for better MA strikes, etc.
Has this been fixed?
Thanks!

I just returned after an almost 2 year break. How do people form teams these days? Specifically:
- MA: If I want to get into a Mission Architect mission, do I stand in the Atlas Park MA zone and just say I want to team? Are the MA's linked in chat or should I move to one appropriate for my level?
- Missions: Should I go to a level appropriate zone and just ask to team in Broadcast?
- Soloing: My main is a Fire/Kin (44) who I play 90% in teams because it is more fun, but now and then I like to solo a mission. What are the tricks of missions difficulty and some of the new sliders now? Also, I completely forget how to repeat missions - newspaper I think? Or is it better to just follow contact based story arcs when I feel like soloing.
Thanks so much.

Thanks again all! I'm going to mess with some of the new color settings on some blaster powers and see what I like.
-
Thanks for the advice all. I think I mispoke. I am hving more trouble with my powers than costume. I know that literally ANY power can be considered 'magic' with the right story, but have you found the new power color system to really shine on certain sets? For example, I found that giving the Circle of Fire power the 'Dark' graphic made it look much more magic-ish than fire blaster-ish.
The standard comic enchannter tends to throw bolts of arcane energy in addition to all the ice blocks and such. I've been playing with changing colors on Sonic, Fire, and Rad to get that 'arcane bolt' look. I was wondering if you found that tinting certain sets certain ways looked cool.
Thanks again. -
I just returned after a 2 year break. I am amazed at how much Paragon has put into this game - having a blast. The new emotes and color combos for powers literally make this a new game for me.
That's the problem - too many choices.
I'd like to make a mage but with that Dr. Strange / Dormammu / Clea / Enchantress feel, not the traditional fantasy feel.
The problem is that now that every power can be recolored (and many have that new 'dark' option) that almost anything can be made to look like Jack Kirby magic now. In just some quick tinkering I found that fire, rad, and a few others set to 'dark' graphics looked very comic magic like.
Any ideas on what might look good given your more extensive experience with the new options? I'd like a blaster or defender - and concept is more important to me than min/max.
Thanks so much for any help or advice.

Thanks for the feedback. I dialed most of the Ultra settings down into the medium range, made FSAA and AA 4x instead of 8x, toned water down to low, and I'm running at 35-45 fps. Water seemed to make a big difference - so did shadows. And when I was doing trade offs I realized that I like the Low water just fine - but I do not like having zero shadows. So I traded water quality for 'medium' shadows and I like the look.
Thanks for the advice on where to look specifically for FPS trade offs - it can be confusing - and I am a data analyst by profession -
I cannot thank you enough for this thread. I have a ATI Radeon HD 5670 1GB and I could not figure out why I was having trouble in 'Ultra' mode. It runs Open GL 3.0, meets the specs, etc. But your explanation about the difference between being able to run OpenGL 3.0 and run it effectively answered that. I think I'd need to go up to the 5700 series for 'Ultra' if I read you correctly.
Question: should I turn off 'Ultra' completely or are there a few tweaks I could make since I am close to the minimum? Which would give me the best bang?
Thanks again for the advice and help all.
