Then I have found a couple of cool concepts. the comunity hero that is not into the limelight, merc agencys that work of the public eye, and even a retirement home of old heroes.
You want your spandex hero, sure, that's fine. But I am looking for an RP admosphere that provides for something else.

I would try and get a hold of the Guardian Angels, when I frist started playing I was In that SG, the founding started with a idea of a All Female group but it became a group more like what you are looking for, sadly I left COH right as Villains came out and have no knowledge of how the guild is today, but the people at the top I believe are the same as when I was in so they most likely are about the same, now granted one of the 1st Cat girls, and one of the 1st vampire anti-heroes where in that guild but both the players of these characters made it work. for me i have an alt that i want to play that would be perfect for that guild, he's an alien bounty hunter (Warshade) who wants to be a good guy and redeem him self. -

Those of us who enjoy some aspect of realism in our superhero stories haven't been convinced by now, and you probably aren't going to be the extra-special person to do it.
[/ QUOTE ]
Similarly, not everyone is convinced that "realism" equates to pessimism, grittiness, emo & angst, and lack of hope. Calling the other styles of play silly and childish doesn't do much work, either.
[/ QUOTE ]
I am not sure how "realism" got equated with emo and angst. I hate emo and angst. If I ever write angst, I will shoot myself in the hand and break my keyboard in half.
Realism is realism. Good things happen to bad people. Bad things happen to good people. Occasionally, good things happen to good people.
...
I must say I am partial to pessimism, though.
[/ QUOTE ]
I must say from my life long journey I have noticed the people who say to other I hate drama are usually the ones starting it.
personally a little Emotional And a Little Angst are realistic if used right, people do go through dramatic moments, read Shakespeare tell me the greatest playwright in history wrote junk, he used all kinds of EMO and Angst, read Hamlet..

I get annoyed when people dismiss realism in comics out of hand just because people in comics do unrealistic things. One always has to look at realism with the rules of that "reality" in mind.
[/ QUOTE ]
I also get annoyed when people think we haven't all heard the "It's a superhero game, there's laser eyes, it can't be realistic!" argument before. News flash, kids: you aren't saying anything a hundred plus people haven't already said, and they probably said it better than you did. Those of us who enjoy some aspect of realism in our superhero stories haven't been convinced by now, and you probably aren't going to be the extra-special person to do it.

Cape Radio for hardcore metal, thrash, and a few Halloween themed songs for background music of course. So thoughts?
[/ QUOTE ]
being always musically minded, and however I do like some metal music, I wonder why no one ever thinks to play the one genre of music that goes with Halloween best?
Goth
ok yes I have been a "Goth" Since 1989 But still come on.... its the one night the music fits best,
and with gothic music you can add anything post punk if its dark and or sinister, such as Ministery, Danzig, NiN, Skinny Puppy... Meat Puppets (you know the song). -

I cannot for the life of me find a team any more, Virtue. I go into all your fancy global channels and inquire there, I set my flag in the little team window, I broadcast. I join a Supergroup; nice people, I enjoy them, but they are all running around in 50s I cannot play with.
A month ago, this is not a problem. I take a short break, come back, and my daily experience consists of yawning, bored to tears as I solo through some instance I could care less about. It does not matter if I am red or blue, the experience is all the same.
What am I supposed to be doing, Virtue? 'Network', they say, so I friend people I enjoy playing with. Now my global friends list is 50 names, none of which I recognize and 3/4 of which are usually grey.
Yes, Virtue, I realize that I am whining and pissing and moaning. But when I cannot freaking team on one of two servers actually capable of reaching yellow, it is like I am banging my head against a brick wall and there is nothing left to do!
There. I am done ranting and will not bother you any more.

I think the original poster wanted to do a crisis-crossover ala Marvel's Civil War or any of DC's Crisis series. I don't see it working, as we have a glut of people who will or won't join, every one will want to be the star, and the idea is out of character for the Freedom Phalanx in my opinion.

or worse yet the OP just saw that god awful movie with my states govenator in it and wanted to get someone else involved, and as for copied Characters, isn't that kinda like flattery? I mean your so hot you had to be cloned?

actually never thought of a kheld SG, I'm sure there is one, and well if you follow the content and read it there is a lot of story on Khelds and their history, but lets say your idea, where do Warshades sit? cause i just can't stand peacebringers (too shinny)

I'm guessing he would mean more realistic in the sense of X-Men, Watchmen, etc... Groups where the heroes aren't all perfect, shiny, happy, friendly and instead have drama, problems, bothersome ticks and shades of grey...
Just a guess.
[/ QUOTE ]
Seems to me to be a pretty safe assumption, given the types of SG he ruled out.
[/ QUOTE ]
I would actually think he is looking for groups more like G.A.R. back when I was more active... at a guess
just a group of nearly everyday folks trying to do good in the world, even though there was a demon, vampire, vampire/elf, couple of "Guys", reformed criminals, an alien invader trying to be a hero, several hot females, just a typical every day kinda club -

jeeze, sorry for try to start a topic.
I thought it was a cool idea and decided to post it thinking Virtue was a friendly place.
As soon as I do I find my self berated from all sides for not spelling my opening postperfectly.
And then when I snap back I get yelled at some more.
Guess people were wrong when they said Virtue is a friendly place.
Oh and Tech if you bothered to read my post all the way through you would see that I do read through my post, spell check it and reread them. I just don't see the errors like other people. Dyslexic comes in all levels and forms so please don't think your dyslexic is the same as mine.
That being said I'll probably just close this form. It not worth the head ache of being teased and bullied by all of you. Before that however, I'd like to thank RedSpine he the only one that gave me some advice that was useful.

as a person who on more then one occasion has posted unreadable stuff (yes I'm Lixdexict... and drunk on rum most of the time) i understand your pain, I would try reading every post out loud before hitting the button, and if you want to really be clear use word first, also avoid using accents unless your good with them, I got that you where trying to type cockney one of the hardest grammars in the world to get right.
how ever if you want to try it here are the rules:
Cockney Rhyming Slang
Cockney Rhyming Slang has been moving around the world, thanks to the popularity of East End gangster movies such as Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and many others. Its a series of words and phrases used by Cockneys and other Londoners. Originally, a Cockney was someone born within the area where they could hear the bells of St Mary le Bow church in Cheapside, London. (This is known as being born within the sound of the Bow Bells). However, an increasingly mobile society means that this label applies to anyone with Cockney heritage or accent.
Rhyming slang consists of replacing a word or phrase with another that rhymes with it. To make it more confusing, the rhyme may be hidden, so that theres no obvious link between the slang term and the original word or phrase.
No one is quite sure where the slang originates. Some speculate that it was designed to help thieves speak without being understood by others after a crackdown on crime in the heart of London. Others suggest that market traders created the slang so they could discuss matters among themselves while securing a good deal from their customers. What is known is that Cockney rhyming slang is alive and well, with new phrases entering the lexicon all the time.
Some phrases have entered common British speech and are used daily without any awareness of their Cockney origins. Examples include:
* use your loaf (loaf of bread = head)
* have a butchers (butchers hook = look)
* cobblers - rubbish (cobblers awls = balls)
* porkies (pork pies = lies)
* donkeys (donkeys ears = years)
Other traditional expressions which are perhaps less widespread include:
* apples (apples and pears = stairs)
* plates (plates of meat = feet)
* Barnet (Barnet Fair = hair)
* Boat race (= face)
* Trouble (trouble and strife = wife)
* Pony (pony and trap = crap)
* Adam and Eve (= believe)
* dog (dog and bone = phone)
* china (china plate = mate)
* Rosie (Rosie Lee = tea)
* rabbit (rabbit and pork = talk)
* whistle (whistle and flute = suit)
* bacons (bacon and eggs = legs)
* cream crackered (= knackered - tired)
* minces (mince pies = eyes)
* tea leaf (= thief)
* jimmy (Jimmy Riddle = piddle - pee)
The Cockney Rhyming Slang site also lists several examples of modern slang expressions, including:
* Ayrton (Ayrton Senna = tenner - ten pound note)
* A la mode (= code)
* Anneka Rice ( = advice)
* Adrian Mole (= dole - unemployment benefit)
* Abergavenny (= penny)

you see I'm a believer in taking money away from the professional criminal.
I want Most Illicit drugs legalized, taxed, controlled and sold by local liquor stores, I want prostitution legalized and controlled. so to me if an MMO has problems with currency sellers they should sell the currency so the criminals wouldn't have a market.
but then I have strange Ideas about freedom and liberty, ie I believe in them still. -
as the topic states....lets hear something folks..
Now for the Best RP in COH, That was around April or May of 2006, back when Guardian Angles Reborn was around. The group was doing a big RP on a roof in KR, it was meant to be a bar room RP, and I was playing The Irken, (green idiot alien).
The set up during this RP event some folks started to do small 2 or three 3 person interactions that left me with someone who knew my main was Mariel and was trying to make a pass at me, while I was playing the Irken:
(the rest is in paraphrase since the original copy was on the G.A.R. site and it seems to be offline these days)
(nameless cat hero)/em playing with a nerf ball
Irken: /em looks around the gathering of filthy humans
(nameless cat hero) /em smiles at the Irken and waves
Irken: Yes, wyrm what do you want?
(nameless cat hero): /em tosses the ball at the Irken
Irken: /em watches the ball, The univse seems to suddenly be in slow motion as the ball heads toward the Irken, the irken blicks at the ball and starts to say Nooooooo .
Irken; /em ooooooo the irken keeps saying it then starts to pick his teeth with a tooth pick then continues screaming Noooooooooooo
Irken: /em in what seems to have been hours of slow motion footage the ball finally hits the Irken in the Head, this Causes the Irken to be knocked back in the air 5 feet where he crashes to the ground with a loud thump
(nameless cat hero): are you ok?
Irken: um what?
(nameless cat hero): so do you want a drink
Irken: I am I need of a drink, as you say.
(nameless cat hero)/em order a rum and coke for the irken
Irken: /em takes drink and looks at it, then smells it
Irken: /em passes out drink spills all over him
I
rken: /em starts to smolder and catches fire
(nameless cat hero)/em trys to put the fire out -

I miss the ol' angel rock... and wandering round Gemini Park, I may not have been the most active RP'r but i did have fun till i got to drunk...
and come on when that guy hit on the Irken...i mean I had to post it on the forum it was so funny... hmmm i may have to repost it one day.
As for ERP.. I do not see the big issue really if your RPing regularly and something happens no big, how ever making a bunny cat girl vampire who needs sex to survive I think that is a line I will never cross, but will Laugh very hard when i see it.

Interesting, I have sort of mixed feeling on this. Not that I would buy WOW gold (COX inf, is a silly thing to buy). I personally find the spam infuriating, however if you read what china is doing and think about it you'll find that it is an attempt to control the direction of currency in a virtual exchange.
i.e. trying control virtual economics.
Me I wish the opposite would happen. The developers should play the game figure out what the max currency that can be earned an hour, and then offer it up at a set rate from the publishers webpage. This way it would set a real value to in game currency that could be measured and controlled by the publisher, in a sense making gold farmers obsolete.
You see no matter what game you play there will always be someone too lazy and with enough money to pay someone else for it. I am not saying let us make it easy for them to be lazy just lets set the limits and make the worth of in game currency real.
Example
In one hour you can make with a max level character say 1000 gold (using Gold per hour only for the more universal MMO term)
The min wage is $10 (once again, not the real number but its easier on the math)
Then in game currency sold by the publisher would be $10 per 1000 (no bulk discounts) at the same time make your game set up that to achieve the best gear in the game you have to actually do it in game and not buy it.
What would this do? It would put the gold farmers out of business, keep government out of the games, and set a real world value to the in game currency.
[/ QUOTE ]
Your suggestion would only bring the government further into the equation. The news articles several years ago pointed exactly to this when Second Life was far more talked about in government circles. The buying and selling of virtual currency, or by extension, buying virtual items with real or virtual currency, had more than a few politicians across the U.S. looking at ways of regulating and taxing such transactions. Several bills were proposed, and hearings began to investigate the legitimacy of taxing these kinds of transactions.
I have no love of RMTers and gold farmers, but what you're proposing, that NCSoft start just selling influence for real money, would only serve to give more than a few politicians reason enough to start taxing and getting more of a piece of the pie. Already, several states tax for internet transactions, such as the monthly subscription fee that we pay every month. Not a majority, but I think NCSoft would like to try and keep this taxation and government oversight to as much of a minimum as possible. It simply wouldn't be in their best interest to institute this influence for cash suggestion.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes, there are risks either way, however my suggestion really isn't an issue for NCSoft since its not as bad of a problem here, however I can think of a game that needs to do something soon ... and they do use gold...
but NCSoft already sells something that makes me think they though of it... the Jet Pack. -
I too have been away for some time, and plan to stick around till either the old republic or 40k mmos are released (maybe CO if A lot of people I know move there)
however I have my master mind who needs to RP and i need to know who is RPing and where so I can meet them in game.
(however there is a minor problem he's based on 40k but i am not planning on him being a comic relief the way I played "the Irken" and Mariel. but as for comic relief Mariel and "the Irken" are still around and need funny.) -
[ QUOTE ]
I could probably get enough folks from my SG to team up with you guys tomorrow night and do it, a bunch of us have characters in that level range that we've been working on. Gfriend me if you want and I'll catch up with you in game, global is @Warp Factor.
