But I'm from Justice, home of The Legendary Living Hellfire! We Justicites live for debate! It's in our blood! Suggesting that a Justicite not debate is like asking a thirsty man not to drink water!
I think it's a side-effect of the pills we all need to take for the crazy!
Boy, I'm such a rabble-rouser...

** I'm only saying this because it seems that no one is seeing that side of it - NCSoft does have to protect themselves - and they will, if push comes to shove. You all can keep expecting that your safe because you've been posting your deviantart-links with "NSFW" warnings and 'its not been a problem" (although it was today, and I believe I've seen some mod-smacks in the past, too- honestly).
[/ QUOTE ]
I really don't think anyone is refusing (or not getting) NCSoft's angle on the issue. Although there seems to be some sort of unspoken understanding between the community development folks and the art community (i.e. keep it tasteful and so long as there are no complaints, it's kosher), everyone that I've seen in this forum thus far (I've been a lurker for quite awhile) acknowledge and understand NCSoft's position. These folks who post that kind of stuff seem to understand that that their post runs the risk of being moded should someone complain.
You say that NCSoft needs to protect themselves "if push comes to shove." No one is arguing that NCSoft needs to protect themselves. The argument is that the "shove" is coming from people who (from judging from their posting histories) don't seem to be regular members of this community. They seemed to appear out of nowhere to create controversy in an already established community that has been around for years (so folks know the rules of this particular forum...written and unwritten).
The initial "shove" was not initiated by NCSoft and quite frankly, it just reeks of bullying, spite and/or trolling. -
I'm only going to throw this character into the pot just because I find the idea tremendously humorous.
Here's some of my other characters should you desire some more serious contenders...
Argent Ember
Frigid Glitch
Morose Delectation
(P.S. If any of my gals happen to be chosen, I tend to lean towards "artsy." I know, I'm such a bore!)

So after we ban boobs...
[/ QUOTE ]
It's really sad to think of boobs as banable. The lives of many, many infants depend on boobs. If it's good enough for babies, it good enough for all, right?
Plus, I'm rather partial to mine (but I'm biased...). -

I'm just wondering when we are going to be told we have to take links to our Deviant Art pages out of our sigs because Deviant Art is filled with "obscene" material.
[/ QUOTE ]
I certainly hope this never happens. I got my DA account yesterday and would hate to have to take it out of my sig so soon.
I personally feel that asking to take out our Deviant links for containing "obscene material" is pretty unnecessary. I have all my nudes marked as "strict access" (even though I feel it's pretty overboard for the art I've done, one can never be too careful). Anyone who clicks on a DA link with works with these settings, they will not see anything unless they're signed into a DA account and said that they're 18+ when they signed up for said account. I've noticed that most of the other folks in this forum are pretty good about setting their works that may offend to "strict access" as well. Since those that have DA links have been responsible about the display of their "potentially obscene" works, I'd consider the mods asking us to take out or DA links to be a gross overreaction. We can't control whether or not a minor signs up for a DA account and lies about their age...there's no need to punish those who are doing their part and are being responsible. -

This argument is pointless. Board rules prohibit obscenity. Nudity of any kind is obscene, and hippies hiding behind "artistic nudity" excuse are simply infuriating. Context does not matter. If you are unable to understand the basic concepts of morality and decency as well as the importance of following rules, you should perhaps put the game aside and do some growing up.
[/ QUOTE ]
Once upon a time, it was considered against the "basic concepts of morality and decency" in the United States and many European countries for a lady to show her ankles.
Today, it's considered against the "basic concepts of morality and decency" in the Muslim culture for a woman to show her hair to a man who is not her husband. In some Islamic countries, women must conceal their entire bodies.
In Saudi Arabia, cross-dressing is considered against the "basic concepts of decency and morality" and will result in immediate beheading.
In the U.K., public nudity is legal (though dress codes are are being implemented in various establishments).
The "basic concepts of decency and morality" are subjective... -

This is actually an interesting and relevant topic for me. I've been working on a set of pin-ups of my main character, Light-Speed. The images are laid out and presented as if it were a Playboy spread, complete with interview, fact sheet, and centerfold... plus 3 - 4 smaller shots. I had originally assumed I'd post the images here, but am reminded that the boards are visited by a younger crowd, so it might not be suitable material.
That being said, I'll be following this discussion until the end.

I so want to see this...

Ditto!
I've always felt that Playboy tends to lean more towards "art" than "porn"... -

Nudity vs Sexually Explicit
Example 1
Nudity: Turbo-Ski nude on her bed
Sexually Explicit: Turbo-Ski nude on her bed and having intimate contact with ice crafted toy
Example 2
Nudity: Turbo-Ski and Red Kite bathing nude in a hot spring
Sexually Explicit: Red Kite having sex with Turbo-Ski while nude in a hot spring
Really I could keep going on...I have like 2 whole pages of stuff like this.
[/ QUOTE ]
I think those are some great examples, Turbo. It's a shame that the U.S. is just so incredibly repressed that a large segment of the our population just can't comprehend the concept and would view all of it as "sexually explicit." -

Seriously, we (the art community) have been posting NSFW stuff for a long LONG time; when someone new to this section stumbles in and gets bent out of shape over it, I'm sorry - but no you are not going to be accommodated.
[/ QUOTE ]
I don't post in these parts often (I sometimes lurk from time to time) and I guess I could be considered a "Screenshots and Fan Art Forum N00b." I personally see absolutely nothing wrong with posting something that's NSFW (and has been marked as such) on these forums so long as they're in good taste. As mentioned by mistformsquirrel, artistic nudity is no worse than what you'd see in a PG13 flick. Plus, any 13 year old kid who's taken an art class has already been exposed to artistic nudity (not to mention the ones who were exposed to a little of the non-artistic variety by stealing their dads' girlie mags). I guess I'm one of those rare noobs who understands the difference between artistic nudity and porn. The NSFW disclaimer does come in handy though for those instances that I am at work (so I can hold off on viewing the piece until I get home).
To be honest, I consider Albtraum 2 my favorite of the three. The overall composition is beautiful and I absolutely love the use of color. I feel a tad bit chilly just looking at it...which is fantastic in 100+ degree weather. -
I wanted to give a quick shout-out to ChaseArcanum (the videographer) for staying late at the event Friday to help accomodate those folks who were stuck in the "Connecting #XYZ" fiasco. He could have easily defaulted to "well, there's another call scheduled for Saturday, try to attend then. But lucky for us, that's just not Chase's style. I very belated to the event as a result (finally got in about a half hour after the event was supposed to end) and Chase was still in Pocket D filming folks. I was able to get my little Ethereal Ember into the final "anything goes" group shot. Thanks Chase, you're awesome!

They're doing the new power sets right now. They are doing them in mixed groups and will sort them out later.

Bummer, I was hoping to get there in time for the new power sets to show off my Fire/Therm. Still downloading...
Double bummer since I'm not available for the shindig tomorrow...
Edit...Yay! Just finished downloading and applying! Here's hoping the party is still going on! *crosses fingers* -
Looks like some great stuff in the pipeline!
Hau`oli la hanau City of Heroes! Here's to another 4 great years! -
I completely understand if a date for the SJ M&G likely hasn't been announced yet until a venue has been booked and the date is solid, but concur with Arwen that it would be quite handy for to get details regarding the M&G as soon as possible. There were a lot of people who traveled from out of town (and state and even country!) for the last M&G who will likely want to come back this year. And I know lots of people who live out-of-state that were unable to attend last year's on such short notice, but have expressed interest in this year's M&G if they have enough lead time to make travel arrangements. It'd be great to at least get some dates to work with in the near future so these folks can at least start planning their flights.

I like when the usher says, "Sorry, I don't PuG."
[/ QUOTE ]
That wasn't the usher...the usher is a blonde guy in a black tux...the "I don't PUG" guy had brown hair and was wearing a blue jacket. The funny is that she was trying to find a "last minute date" with someone in line who had an invite so she could sneak past the usher to get into the wedding.
BTW Chase, I'm totally digging how you portrayed Marcian and Ex Libris! I've had the pleasure of meeting them both in person and can totally see them saying the stuff they did in the comic.
P.S. Thanks for making Frigid Glitch famous!
P.P.S. Boy, I'm just a graemlin junkie this morning! -
Though Frog's been known to perform his necromancy several times on a single thread...particularly if it's a good one that he doesn't want to see die quite yet.

Drat...I wish I could make it to the blessed event, but them's the breaks when you work banking hours on the west coast.
Ah well, I hope everyone has a fantastic time! -
Cool thread to be necro'd...just a little disappointed that it wasn't Justice's resident thread necromancer (TheFrog) who did this unholy act.

You should PM Ex Libris to request that this post gets stickied and marked for non-deletion.
