Pretty much done with my understanding and support....long enough guys. Yes flamers....flame away.....but this is worse than the nerf wars of '05 & '06 My only day off is Thursdays for the next 11 weeks until Nov 17.....this is gunna suck!

    Signed.

Do your worst everyone. Not like I haven't weathered this storm before.
  3. Now it's till 2:15pm approx. Sigh. I'm gonna lower my expectations and just assume that downtimes lasting a good part of the day will now be the status quo.
  4. I'm having this issue as well. Although, when I click it I get taken to the beta. Unable to log in multiple accounts.

Way to go with the name-calling. I've made concessions, acknowledging my faults and trying to convey that I'm not so obstinate that I can't empathize but the company messed up on several approaches. I'm not going to let it go so unleash the hounds. As for me slinging insults, by all means go over all my previous posts. I think the most caustic thing I've said is that the developers screwed up and I've made sure that I remain respectful while stating my views. I believe when you resort to being rude your case holds less water and what you have to say becomes less relevant.

Dude, problems happen. Something malfunctioned, they fixed it. You ARE being unreasonable, and we are every bit as entitled to tell you so as you are to complain.
I'm not saying I'm infallible. I've made more than my fair share of mistakes in my line of work and when I screw up on the one thing I'm paid to do I forgo getting paid by not turning in my billable hours. This wasn't a mild slip up. The whole game went down. For nine hours. My phone company has reimbursed me for less. I'm asking in the context of being a business, why should I expect anything less from NCSoft?

  9. Entitlement issues? Am I really being that unreasonable? Something went wrong not just once or twice but throughout the day on several levels. You're all focusing on writing code and I'm not so implacable that I don't realize one mistake can be very pivotal. This detail alone isn't inexcusable but the lack of notice upon the second shutdown and their inability to tell us what went wrong and how long it would take to fix on top of the fact that I had to wait 9 hours to fix? I'll say it again, a good business would know the right thing to do and how to do it just to ease the concerns of the clientele regardless if they signed a waiver. Really, I think it's nice that everyone rallies to the defense of the programming developers but if it weren't for watchdogs to call them on their flaws who's to say they wouldn't take the liberty to run roughshod all over you? Checks and balances is really all this is and I have no compunctions making my thoughts known on the threads.
  10. In response to Tex:

Quote the letter of the law as much as you like. You know as much as I do what happened yesterday, while not a breach of contract, shouldn't have happened and that many in your player base were inconvenienced. As I'm reading the terms of service, nowhere does it state that you absolutely cannot make reparations, only that you are not legally obligated to. Do the right thing and consider making things right for the folks that pay your bills.
  11. Really? Even after I listed the many ways they dropped the ball? And you still bring back that tired old canard? Sure I signed an agreement making an allowance for interruption of service but do you honestly think it applies to repeated and prolonged interruption? No. I think they meant a reasonable interruption in which they take the time they need to work on and maintain the game. Otherwise, that clause would allow them to wantonly halt service unchecked. Look, they screwed up. They even acknowledged their screw up in the form of an apology. They failed to deliver. So now what should they do? How about issuing patrol xp to make up for lost time? Or a reward merit? Or something? It shouldn't be too hard to implement and it wouldn't cost them a thing. So what's the harm?
  12. Way to employ reducto ad absurdum. The scenario you describe sounds like it would be life threatening which disqualifies it from applying to our case.

Another way to look at it is ordering a coffee drink like an elaborate mocha and that coffee taking 7 minutes to make instead of the 3 it usually takes. Then as you take your first sip the barista asks for it back because it was prepared incorrectly and you have to wait another 6 minutes. It's within the coffee shop's best interest to reimburse you. Either with a coupon for a free one next visit or some sort of refund/ discount. And in this scenario you'd never have to ask for it.

I know that they will do their best to keep it to a minimum, and be happy with the fact that this means smoother gameplay with servers capable of handling a large influx of new players. Take away the entitlement, and tact shall make an appearence.
I'd be more understanding if there weren't an error that warranted another shutdown and if more warning were granted for the second shutdown and if more information were provided during the downtime. From a business standpoint this was all handled very poorly. I have to conclude that the developers simply didn't give themselves enough time to do whatever it was they needed to do AND check their work. If initially they stated it would take nine hours I'd have been okay with that. If they gave us more than five minutes warning to log off I'd have been okay with that. If Freitag had something more substantial to say than, 'I don't know what happened and I don't know how long it's going to take.' I'd have been okay with that. Again, I can't stress it enough, at the end of the day, it's a business. These were all courtesy opportunities they missed out on. And I'm saying had this occured at a store, a cafe, airport, etc. it wouldn't be okay.

It takes you 40 hours to switch alignments? You have more issues than the servers being down. Also, you know that they can play hero side just by going rogue right? Thats gotta cut your investment down to at least 20 hours. no need to take another day of work off! Yay!

Oh, and here I assumed you said that it takes 40 hours to switch alignments. Not 40 hours to switch alignments and do other crap...

Wait a second... that IS what you said. Then my point still stands.

Actually, that is exactly what it means. you agree that you have no case every time you log in, whether it is your account, or someone elses. Bottom line? You have no platform to stand on.
Right. Advocate all you like. Your abrasiveness doesn't lessen what I have to say. I paid to play. Wasn't able to. Now I'm here saying it'd be nice if NCSoft or Paragon Studios were to make a gesture. I mean, how hard would it be for them to say, "We apologize for the unexpected server downtime and to make it up to you we're holding another double xp weekend." Or something else along those lines.

P.S. BTW, if trying to belittle me makes you feel like more of a person then by all means type away. Far be it from me to tell you what to do with your time or assay your strength of character. That would, in fact, be a waste of my time infinitely moreso than anything else I've done today.

Among other things. Frankly none of your concern how I spend my time.

Oh so you were there every waking moment I was working on his toon? I must not have seen you hovering over my shoulder. It's possible, just possible that I'm not yet finished getting his character to Rogue status yet. I'd say the odds are good considering there was a downtime of about nine hours. Ultimately, I'd like to get him to hero so he could join the SG and use the hero O-portal. Just when you thought you had your bases covered...

I'm well aware of the expressed agreement. Bottom line? I paid for a service that I didn't get for nine hours. You think I have no right to make my case? Why oh why did they provide me with a forum to do exactly that? Your argument holds no water and the fact you lack any tact makes what you have to say without merit.

I play this game a lot. Prolly 5 to 10 hours a day. And yet, one day without it is not going to kill me.
You can not plan for everything. To say otherwise is lunacy.
It doesn't matter what I paid, the fact is I paid. Let me put it another way. Let's say you go to an upscale restaurant and you get the priciest thing on the menu and someone at another table gets an item much more affordable, that person would still have as much right to voice their concerns over their dish if they felt something were wrong. That's just how business is conducted.

And you can't quantify the investment in this game on dollars and cents alone. This game is also a time investment. I'm trying to change the alignment of a character from villain to hero for a friend who's on vacation which we all know takes roughly 40 hrs assuming I were to get tips on a regular basis. I took off work today to spend time doing just that and find out I can't log in. There on the forums I saw the five hour shutdown window. I'm inconvenienced but it's not a big deal. I can still plan around it. I log back in later on for about 30 minutes and out of nowhere I see the red text stating I had 5 minutes left to play. All day I check intermittently with little to no information from Freitag. When my friend gets back from vacation, his toon probably won't be ready to play with the rest of us who play heroes for another day or so. While I do acknowledge the apology, how's that going to help me keep a promise I made to my friend? It isn't. I'm probably going to give him a purple recipe to make up for it. I know he won't be up in arms demanding any reparation but it's the gesture that counts. Now while I think awarding everyone purple recipes is a tad excessive perhaps some extra offline XP and perhaps reset everyone's fame timers.

Again. Not my problem. Usually when a company fails as thoroughly as this one did today, amends are made in good faith. If for nothing to at least maintain relations with the clientele. It's good business and the true 'nature of the beast'.

Personally, I'd rather they fix things right the first time around. Especially when they ask for five hours of my paid time to work with.
  20. And of course, after getting on with my day I come back to finish the last of my missions in order to get my morality mission and what happens? Surprise! Even more server down time!!! I didn't like that there was a 5 hour shutdown especially since it takes roughly 40 hours to fully change your alignment. I just want to get it over with. But I was patient. And now that I'm almost half way done I get to wait some more. Because of some oversight that screwed something up from the last shutdown. I get they're trying to get things geared up for Freedom but my patience is wearing thin.
  21. Just saw it. Rather enjoyable. I had a little trouble getting passed the uncanny valley initially. Caesar kind of stuck out like a sore thumb while the other apes seemed to be more photorealistic.

I wish they had stuck with the prosthetics and make-up they used in Burton's film. I'm still amazed by what they were able to accomplish in that movie despite its stupid ending.

On another note, it seems visual effects and make up artistry seems to be going the way of the dodo and giving ground to CGI in a big way. I understand it may be more cost effective to do things this way but I feel something is lost when it's overdone. Take two Terry Gilliam films for example. The Adventures of Baron Munchausen and The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus. Formulaically, similar films. The former movie was a lot easier for me to get lost in because nothing seemed like it was out of synch. I don't think technologically, we're at the point where CGI can propel a story alone when mixed with live actors unless done really really meticulously (i.e. Avatar).
  22. Oh cool! Adam Ant never looked so good.

  24. I have to disagree entirely Golden Girl. There is almost nothing I like about this mini-issue. It's a grind cycle pure and simple. In order to get the Lore pets and pricy costume pieces we need to do the trials. The newest trial almost demands that you take Rebirth as a Destiny power which in turn costs more merits which you can only acquire by doing more trials. I absolutely hate the fact that Rebirth is so pivotal for this as it kind of turns a cold shoulder to anyone who decided to go another route. In any other instance I don't need a regen/HP power because I built my tank for defense and resistance. But for the Keyes trial I absolutely have to have it because those attributes don't account for squat against the Gamma Pulse that goes off every 30 seconds. Building up another Destiny tree for one trial? Yeah, no thanks.

In short, "Incarnates Ascend" is a poorly realized and shoddily executed Catch 22. Sorry Dev Team but it's only Day 1 and I really don't see this getting any better.

P.S. Actively boycotting the new trial. Perhaps you guys can look into another method of converting other rewards to E-merits.
  25. But yeah it should be said definitively that Portal Corp. got its look from Stargate.
