Anyone know what the math is going to be for proc in AOEs? And can you explain it? Last I checked that was somewhat cloudy.
-
Yup, gotta agree. I love my SR/MA tank. Stupid tough. But, fairly weak on the damage.
Of course, my other SR is a Claws/SR scrap, so I guess by comparison, most any SR tank is gonna feel a bit damage lite....
Looking forward to the changes and seeing about trying another SR. Maybe an SR brute this time... -

Looks like I didn't play enough before to earn the permanent invention license. I'm not interested in paying a couple hundred dollars to do so.
But man, I worked those IOs out all the way. Everything was set up just right. I want them back.
How far are ya from earning it on the VIP reward tree. If you're just a tad bit short, it might be worthwhile to drop $15-30 and get if you're close.
If not, then the monthly access to it is probably the way to go. -
-
Maybe it is.
Maybe they just prefer to get their info from another source.
Your reaction might be warranted if everyone were PMing you personally about it. But they aren't. If you feel the questioner doesn't deserve your help, feel free to withhold it.
Frankly, they're making use of an available resource. And it's far from lazy, as it's more effort to come here and type the question then check back periodically for the reply. But, even if it was stupid and lazy in part, the OP did ask multiple questions, and I don't think I've ever seen any power detail screen that answered the second of the OPs 2 questions.
Oh, wait, I know I once looked at one powers details, and it said quite clearly "This is the 3rd most beneficial power in the game." But, I can't recall which power it was, and even if I could, I might be then tempted to ask what #1 and #2 are... -
If you have plenty of def, I'd think sonic is the really obvious choice. Between the AOE +Resist and mez protection, and the shields, and the debuff/mez breaker as needed, it would seem a pretty great buffbot if def isn't an issue.
Bonus is it'll play about the same as what you're already used to. -
Quote:Sorry, I guess I missed that section of the forum guidelines where it breaks down which types are questions are acceptable and which aren't, especially the subsection about powers in the game being off limits.*sigh*
I'm saying they shouldn't have to come to the forums to ask a question like "Is Superior Conditioning a toggle?"
That would be like you coming to the forums to ask "Is Statesman a woman?" Read. The. Power. Info. In. The. Game. That's why it's there. Don't ask stupid questions, and you won't get snarky answers.
As an aside, and as a attempt to actually go back to constructive commentary...
The power info in the game isn't exactly that easy to find at times if you're new to the game. And the ways to get to the detailed bits aren't all that intuitive. Sure, if you've been playing the game for years, it might seem so, and yes, there are more ways than one to find that info. Can't recall for sure, but I seem to recall that while training up to a new level you can't get the detailed power info, and seems like it probably adds to the confusion of newer players. Maybe the help tool that's built into the game might actually be updated someday to actually show how to get the detailed power info... -
So, the post taking you to ask for being needlessly mean seems quite in target. You took time out of your day, and effort to be snarky, sarcastic and condescending, because you didn't like how someone found their answers.
They choose to utilize a resource that is know to be a reliable one to get the info they wanted. And you're taking them to task for not using some other resource that you think they should have used instead?
Do you also go to wikipedia and edit the page on 'quantum tunneling' to deride people from using wikipedia when they could instead comb through the online physics journals?
And yes, I am also taking time out to critique. But that's because I actually like the forums as a resource. I like that folks come here, because the forums as a resource have greater value if more people use it. So I think that chasing folks off the forums because they don't happen to meet your obscure criteria to be 'allowed' to ask a question here seems counter-productive to me. -
Quote:Maybe some come from other MMO's where healing is crucial and don't adapt to CoH playstyle, maybe others just think it's cool so they go for it right upon finishing being AE farmed and maybe some others are just so pathetic that they enjoy annoying others.
I'm charitable enough that I really hope, and want to believe, it's gotta be the first option. -
Going to add my voice to many of the others here.
95% DDR.. Can't over state this. It's a blast to wade in vs debuffers and laugh...
It caps to all positions easily. Very easily. Even the incarnate cap. After that, build for insane recharge and as much +regen or +HP or +Damage as you can. Good times.
The huge +recharge bonus is nice, and slow protection isn't that common, so it's nothing to overlook either.
And, speaking of overlooked, without a lot of effort, you can get a fairly large amount of unsupressable combat speed, which if you know how to use it isn't anything to sneeze at.. Most PVPers know this, but it's got utility in PVE in too.
Some other sets can do some of these, but none can do them all. Shield comes closest, but it's doubtful you can get as much recharge on a shielder as you can on SR. Then you can go crazy with claws, which LOVES high amounts of recharge, and that Shield just can't do. Or TW, or DB or, etc...
For my money, SR is a great set. It's not for everyone, but, if the above stuff isn't for you, well, that's why they have the other sets. -
Quote:I pretty much agree with what Werner said. I always use OG while leveling my toons as it mitigates the damage enough for me, and the mob wandering doesn't bother me. I haven't been able to convince myself to use CoF, as the poor Accuracy and End cost always drives me away from it. One of these days I'll shoe horn it in to one of my dark toons.
Agreed. Especially agree in that I thought most folks that were vaguely in the know took OG, not CoF... My Brute tastic has OG,a nd not CoF, for when tings get out of hand.. And I'm much happier to have OG. Since health really isn't an issue beyond massive debuff or insta death...
On the other hand, my Scrapper runs both. And all the spines stuff. And all the Fighting toggles. And SS. And and and.. And he's a level or two pre Alpha.... And, with all of them, and the procs hitting 1/2 way decently... He's pretty OK... -
Quote:As well you should be.Uhm... I'm confused. You say you don't often agree with me, then you go off to disagree in your statement? Seems rather contradictory.
Totally contradictory...
I *think* I said disagree, and mistyped it, and edited it really fast. One would assume, WAY too fast.
Either way, I buggered it up, and have fixed it now. Sorry for making things all confusing...
Please read that as 'I don't often disagree'. I'll edit it to make sure I don't confuse other folks, too. Sorry.
Point being, I often find myself agreeing with ya, and on the same page, but here... Well...
Quote:I think you're think you're taking the analogy too far.
Quote:(Absorb Pain isn't a t9 power to begin with.) In some cases I won't take my t9 power. I won't take unstoppable on my soft capped Inv tanks. I don't have the self rez on my fire tank.
{I think that might prove my point (or at least well support it) on me agreeing with ya often.}
Quote:I do have my t9 on my Nrg/ice blaster, etc. (I'm still trying to decide WHY I took Force Bubble along with Repulsion Field on my FF.) All varying choices, and somethings won't get shoehorned into my planned builds. But that's neither here, nor there. \
Quote:Don't get me wrong, Absorb pain is a great heal in it's own way. On my Emp defender I find the idea of, well, self mutilation to heal someone else unappealing in a subconscious way. I don't mind the minor tics of damage I get when running Oppressive Gloom on my Time/DP, or even my Dark Tanks. I'll even jump headlong into a mob to try and heal/help someone even if it might kill me, but I just can't convince myself to take Absorb. So, there you go.
It sorta bothers me that the downside, 'penalized' powers seem to be getting edited out. Wonder how they'll redo Absorb Pain. Maybe a -recovery? -
Pretty much, no such thing. A theoretical limit exists, but I don't think it's 'in-game' real, ever...
Is so, it would take a really specialized team to even hit it vs anything where you cared... -
Quote:Literacy. Bah! Who cares!? No value in that anyway....Ok...apparently, I am supposed to be literate too! You guys ask too much!
(ok, not really, but to the percent that it is true, it is because people don't read what ya post anyhow. Or only the line they wanna get up in arms about) -
-
Quote:Totally agree. Not everyone does.. I know I have many alts without it....Not everyone takes barrier, I've been on 16 man teams where no one had it.
But. How do you know nobody on the 16 man team had it? Are Incarnate powers listed on peoples Bios now? Last I checked they weren't... Or are you really in the habit of asking everyone on a league what their Incarnate power choices are? Even if so, how can you rule out the possibility that you get purely honest and correct feedback. I often don't recall what I have on many of my 50s, so... -
Quote:Not in the least. I have yet to convince myself that Absorb Pain is worth while taking on my Emp. If you're applying the buffs and the team is playing smart, you should rarely have to heal anyway, much less use AP.
I don't often disagree with ya, so I'm surprised here...
First, though. I don't find any Emp power totally unskippable, but if I had to pick one, it'd be Fort.
But, even a Fortless emp, well played, will be a huge asset to his team... So I have no *you must take X expectations*.
But, I am a bit surprised at your logic, Rangle. It's like telling a Rad/ def to skip their heal, since if you're using RI well, you won't get hit. Or telling every melee type to skip their t9 or their self rez, since, well, you won't need it if things go well. Just because you won't always need it, doesn't mean that things never go against the odds, or against you. Having a nice, or even excellent fall back choice isn't ever a bad plan. It's only bad if you skipped something better to get it.. And 'better' here is very much open to debate.
With respect,
Maddie -

I'm not gonna grief ya for pointing that out, since you acted like a normal person, not an incensed maniac. Try not to be offended. But, I DO acknowledge that you won the 1st nitpick contest...
-
Holy smoke. He (or she) obviously mis-spoke (mistyped? miskeyed? Whatever.) The intent wasn't unclear, and if you found it so, well, you prolly won't be able to read twixt the lines here either, so..
Yes, some sets seem to get leaned upon to do it the *right* way. It's usually support sets. Trollers and defs seem to get that treatment far more often, in my experience, than Corrs or MMs.. Kinetics and Emp are often the victim of this thought process..
The right way is always the way the player hoping/wanting support wants you to play. I suspect the thought process is that you can't possibly solo so he/she is doing you the favour by teaming with you, so you better repay perfectly...
My suggestion, just ignore the morons that aren't skilled enough to play support sets well. If they don't like how you play an emp (or whatever) tell them to make their own..
And, as a total side note, and admittedly slightly contradictorily to my above comments... I've always though Absorb Pain total awesome sauce of healing powers. I'd not skip it, even, on a support oriented emp (except on a all emp style team)... I'd skip the other heal powers first. Nothing rescues as hard as a maxed out Absorb Pain.. Well, other than a Def buff, or... OK... Nothing healish does..
Quote:A controller CAN NOT take empathy as their primary. They can only take it as a SECONDARY.
I would think *ANY* AT can reasonably be expected to focus on their primary - that's why it's called that. If you're ignoring it to focus on your secondary, you picked the wrong AT. Of course, that doesn't justify someone being a build Nazi.
Only from stupid people. But who cares what they expect. Or think.
I have NEVER taken Absorb Pain on any character, whether empathy was primary or secondary.
Only if you listen to stupid people.
Absorb Pain is one of the skippable ones. Eminently so.
In case you missed it, let me reiterate that some players are STUPID and should not be listened to. -
Gonna disagree here with the standard reply. Kinetics is a bit OP. Yes, you can hit caps all other sorts of ways, but none as easily, and none can you try quite so often.. And that's just a discussion of FS, not to mention the insane utility of SB, especially now that it's AOE. and still recharges almost instantly. If it's recharge was more like AM, well, then the set might be a bit more balanced, but, it's not...
That said. It's not perfectly balanced. It's obvious that a well built Kin that's well played is awesome like little else... If anything else...
But, it's high end is gated beyond investment cost, annoyance, skill, and general fragility, especially during leveling...
Even though the high end is stupid high, I'd vote to leave it alone.
Of course, as a Kinetics Def player, I'm obviously biased. -
Quote:I very, very rarely see deaths that are caused by a lack of healing. Most deaths are caused by burst damage overwhelming someone BEFORE they can heal. I keep a close eye on the league screen during trials and you know what I rarely (if ever) see? People sitting around at less than full health for more than a few seconds. That tells me that the league has more than sufficient healing.
So yeah givne that I would sya that having another Barrier up to keep everyone nearer the resistance hard cap is more useful than Incandesence
Gotta totally agree with Adeon on this one. On the iTrials, it's only burst, or insta death things, that get me. Otherwise, even on squishies, I'm fine. And when I get hammered, usually because I don't want to retreat from Marauder during the Lambda, for example, I can get back to full just fine without Incan..
Yes, Incan has it's place, but it's nowhere near 'the best buff in the game' in iTrials. Maybe in PVP, but outside of it, almost nowhere near the top of the list, in any circumstance.
That said, I don't see it being spammed that much, so I'm not up in arms about it. But, it is almost always annoying when it does happen. Heck, for my money, I find the gratuitous use of Reveal to be far more annoying.. Mostly because I see that power being greatly overused MUCH more often.. If I saw Incan being used near as much as the OP seems to have, I might reverse my positions, though.
I'd be thrilled if they added a 'Reveal doesn't work on me (unless I use it)' and an 'Incan doesn't ever affect me at all, including having to reject the TP and even including meaning I get no buff from it' option to Null the Gull. I might happily sign up for both. But, if I could only get one, it'd be Reveal. -
As someone who is near the same, if not worse boat altitis wise as you sound Rangle, I'd use the feature you recommended, as recommended, but it wouldn't me for me a MUST have addition. It would definitely help me out, though.
-
I like the OPs suggestion a lot, as an improvement, but I like Netphenix's idea, too. I do think the crashing t9s bear some looking at, but I really don't want a whole passel of SoWs either...
But, I think there are a lot of workable solutions to make them a bit more appealing. -
Note, that many of those zones are accessible way earlier, but some aren't. For example, the RWZ is lvl 35-50, but you can enter it at level 1.
The Hive, last I checked, was 45-50, and you must be lvl 45 to enter.
Pretty sure all the PVP zones still have minimum levels, but most places don't any longer.
But, even if you can swing by The Storm Palace at lvl 17, in theory, don't expect it to be a lot of fun..
