Well Ex, I gotta say, you've done something amazing. Let me trot out an anecdote.

Way back in 1979, the Grateful Dead needed a new keyboard player. Bob Weir (rythym guitarist for the Dead) had a really hot keyboardist in his side band, a guy named Brent Midland and he invited Brent to play with the Dead. So, Brent joined the Grateful Dead.

Brent played with them for more than 10 years, longer than ANY previous keyboardist (yes, GD went thru keyboardists like Spinal Tap went thru drummers). Brent was soulfull, Brent had a great sound, Brent really "got it"......but even to his last day alive, many many fans of the band (Deadheads, or more properly dead freaks) referred to him as "the new guy" and they HATED him.

I never understood the hate. Then again, I came to the Dead a little late.

How is this relevant? Well, before you there was cuppajo, and she left behind some mighty big shoes. Lighthouse came along, but I don't think ANYONE sees Lighthouse as being the same kind of mod as cuppa. Cricket tried hopping into cuppa's shoes....and then hopped right back out.

You came along, looked at cuppa's shoes.....and decided your OWN shoes fit you quite nicely! People tend to respect that more I think. You're doing so much to keep this community together in all our (occassionally dysfunctional) glory....you have a presence here that is downright friendly! That's cool.

Now I realize I probably sound like the biggest brown noser EVAH, but I can live with that. I certainly get not one bit of "special treatment" around here, heck just yesterday I got mod smacked (for nothing I might as well add) Keep up the fantastic work Ms Ex Libris....one day maybe you will no longer be "the new girl"

As best as I can tell, I think this will happen too. The economy is going to be getting flooded with influence, yet no one is going to be selling. I think the devs are going to need to stock wentworths with some rares as an influence sink.

Right L_L, I hear you.......but both Boudicia and Skroo Bahl are really important to me, I want them both to have the very best of everything. Maybe that makes me a pig, but dang it, they rock and they are the reason I play this game (I have no idea what I'm going to do when they reach 50.....be sad probably). I don't know what to do. If I play them, I finish the arcs and perhaps lose out on something awesome. If I play them but ignore the nearly finished arcs, I out level the arcs and miss out on real good stuff already in game PLUS potential awesomeness. Both sad thoughts.

***sigh*** I guess I can play my lower level characters. There is a reason they are lower level though, and its not just because they got created later. Damn this wacky invention system and its ambiguity!

OK, look at the two bold parts, and tell me, don't they contradict one another? Either you can get anything from defeating any enemies, or not. Am I reading this wrong? Can anyone point me in the direction of clarity? Can anyone convince me to start playing again and finish my arc's now? (both boudicia AND skroo bahl are on the cusp of finishing arcs)

Geeze, if I'm looking for team members, and the don't have the LFT flag up, but the thing says "lft" or says nothing, I invite them, because yeah, people DO forget to change their dang flag. I always send informative, short tells (lvl 25 CoT timed msh, interested?) and no one ever yells at me for it. IN FACT, there is *someone* on Virtue, who is *always* in Pocket D with "Please send me a tell so I can tell you exactly why I'm declining it" and I see this as a challenge so I *always* send them a tell.....so far, not ONCE has this player send me any sort of decline other than just not replying. Must be a sort of game to them, and I'm just happy to oblige them. ANYWAY, whether or not a player has the LFT (or whichever) flag up or not is irrelavent to me. If they have "Not looking for team" in they little comment box, THOSE folks I leave alone, and I never ever send invites without first send int a tell and then getting a response asking me to send an invite.

I know this wont win me any friends around here, but Z. Moussaoui was just sentenced to life in prison for exactly that, his thoughts and associations.

Also, I take my forum name in part form queen Boudicia, a British Isles queen who fended off the Romans and burnt London to the ground. I mention this because I get very irritated when posters just *assume* I am a male person. I am in fact female.

I gotta say this is a terrific post! I'm only involved with CoH, and for me its been such a kick to be super powered, and to save lives, just live out this fantasy that so far I had not stopped to think about the anti-democratic vibe inherant in Paragon. Kinda harshed on my mellow there friend but worthwhile nonetheless. Of course now I'm wondering if CoH could be sort of a brainwashing tool for the far right of American gov..........

Well, until I read your post, I never dreamed I would play CoV, now I'm rethinking that thought. I supose for me, I play a "hero" because I think of myself (in RL) as "wholesome", as a positive force for good in my own limited way. I am also very individualistic in RL, and a true believer in democracy, and the inherant goodness of my fellow person. It's fairly shocking to think this fun, awesome little game has lulled me even for a moment into a sort of fascistic (is that a word), jackboot mentality! Gonna take me a while to mull that over.

One thing I would point out to you about American history. During WW2, American citizens that even *looked* asian were herded off to "internment camps" out west. I mention that to remind that the current regime's penchant for "racial" profiling is not new.

I played with someone who must have REALLY taken this post to heart! I was playing my dark / dark defender Skroo Bahl, and this guy was playing an empath with far greater healing ability than ol' Skrooie........the guy died, went to hosp before I could rez him, came back and started screaming at me about healing him.......I was like, dude, you've got like 1,000 heals to my piddly little ONE heal, get over yourself......what the frack was he thinking???

My name is Ashley Motta, and this is my family's story, and mine.

My parents were minor heros in Paragon City in the early 1960's. My father, Jakob Motta aka Captain Straight met my mother Daisy Freespirit in Skyway, and they fell in love. Daisy wanted to go to San Fransisco for the Monteray Pop festival, so she and dad went. My dad had no idea that the sugar cube mom gave him was loaded with LSD, but it was. Mom actually benefitted from the LSD, as she was soon able to conjure illusionary objects to toss at enemies, and to a lesser extent dad benefitted from his new found ability to jump an amazing distance. Soon enough however, they turned away from fighting crime and just became two more hippies following the Grateful Dead from town to town. In 1969, at Woodstock, I was born.

My parents were shocked to see how mutated I was! Born with soft spikes on my arms and legs was bad enough, but the "worst" thing to their tie-dyed sensibilities was the fact that I was born sans any coloring, except black tendrils on my too white skin. I stood alone as a Lichtenstein pen drawing in a Vasarely technicolor dreamscape. As shocked by my appearance as they were, my healing ability was enough to cause them to value me greatly.

In 1995 the Grateful Dead stopped touring, and we moved back to Paragon City, where I met my three best friends, Boudicia Dark, Aud Mankiller and her half brother Skroo Bahl. Boudicia really went out of her way to show me the ropes and helped me on my way towards being a hero in Paragon, and Skroo always keeps me laughing. My parents however, never regained their desire to be heroes, and slid further and further into drug abuse. By the time I got my cape, my parents were living among the Lost, and I was very fearful for their well being. Then, the worst thing I could imagine happened. My mother was taken by supatrolls, and my father was converted by the Lost, converted into an aberrant rector.

I was devistated to find my father in such a grotesque state, and I called on my friends to help me controll and subdue him in his superdine fueled wrath. The three of us fought him for hours, trying desperatly to just knock him out, but Aud, with her superstrength, inadvertantly killed my father. I don't blame her though, I know it was the superdine that really killed my father.

From that moment on I have devoted my life to stopping the superdine trade and helping others get off hard drugs, and rediscover their clear-headed goodness. I do not believe the Lost are a "lost cause", and I live among them to this day. I also still search for my mother, but I recently heard a rumor that she has been changed into an Eidelon, and if that is the case.......I will stop her by any means at my disposal.
