Guide to Base Raiding
Example of a no holds barred one we did a while back for fun before I get into the guide.
RAID VIDEO Music NSFW or Young Ears
In this raid video vs Darkest Moon, we changed up the format and we did total kills and anything goes minus spawn camping (where possible). Anchors counted as an extra 10 kills. It was a crazy free for all, but VERY FUN for all.
I WANT TO SAY THIS UP FRONT. IF YOU UTILIZE SOLID FUNDAMENTALS OF DEFENSE AND RAIDING YOU DO NOT, I SAY AGAIN YOU DO NOT HAVE TO HAVE A PVP BUILD. You also do not have to be level 50, any level can play, it just limits your power choices. ENCOURAGE your low levels to partipate in them, this will give them an eye opening fun experience and something to develop their toons for if they so desire. It also reinforces their desire to better the base and be a better member of your SG.
Welcome to Warface's "Tactical Success for the Base Raider Guide"
First of all, as a background for myself. I am a Marine (getting on in age :P , with two combat tours, and over 42 Instant raids to our groups name ), and when I am not doing extracurricular activities such as running, mountain biking, firing at the range, eating cheetos, or tossing gnomes ~when available, I am spending every waking minute thinking of tactical ways to make my base stronger and better in this wonderful game we know as CoX.
Thats the little evil Combat Engineer in me. Bases are where it's at and have the potential of being REALLY -- REALLY GREAT in the future. If you have ever done a base raid that had your heart pumping down to the last second as you strained to stay jumping in the air to get that last punch on the dimensional anchor.........you know what I am talking about.
YOU CAN MAKE THIS EXPERIENCE GREAT FOR ALL.............Unfortunately so many people have had a bad experience due to various things (some have been fixed) that they don't want to touch raids with a 10 ft. pole:
<ul type="square">
[*]1. Team kick bug (which was fixed) [*]2. Lack of IoP and worry about destroyed items not rezzing after raid when IOPs do go live (if ever) (this isnt a problem with instant raids, everything is replaced after raid).[*]3. Spawn camping and being stunned before zone in.[*]4. Taunting.[*]5. Feelings of being lost in a maze of people trying to kill you.[*]6. Traps set like jails or spikes that you dont agree with and leave you yelling YOU (*)*&&&(*& CHEATERSS!!!!!!!! over broadcast.
There are things you can do to defend and things you can do to attack to make it enjoyable for all. They (your bases) don't have to look like a spiked tree maze with terrible lighting from hell to be viable. Dont let your decorative talents go to waste and don't let base raids be bad. YOU and the raiding or defending group can change this!
THE GUIDE
In this guide I will attempt to show you the world of base raiding and some techniques you can utilize to make your group better defenders or attackers regardless of your AT mix.

As always, incredible work!

looks great, only things i see:
wall is flat, needs depth
belt isn't quite centered, skull seems too far to our left
bricks flying away are all full brick shaped, but randomly sized. I'd have made them more jagged or they need to be all the same size, but that wouldn't look proper
[/ QUOTE ]
Sounds good, good pickups..... Im on duty tonight, but Ill try to make adjustments tomorrow night. -
Just incredible. Celtic Bolt is the ladies man huh.
-
[ QUOTE ]
the wall looks like it's flat... like he's breaking though paper.
[/ QUOTE ]
Gotcha thats easy to do before I ink it -
[ QUOTE ]
nice sketch, but the fact that there is perspective on the bricks flying off the wall, but not the wall itself irks me a tad.
[/ QUOTE ]Thats the point of this is for me to fix this.......though I just started the background......... give me an example of what you mean so I can fix it
We dont want any STEVE "IRK" les around here! -
[ QUOTE ]
Overall, really nice. You could stand to read Burne Hogarth's Dynamic Figure Drawing ( http://www.textbookx.com/product_det...iliate=froogle )
so that their angles are more dramatic, but overall, I think it's a really well penciled image (though I'm no artist--so I really can't comment on anatomy and such) But its got lot's of promise in it.
[/ QUOTE ] WOW! Great book Ill certainly buy it! -
Rough Draft Pencil Pose 3
Okay after taking your recomendations I lowered the left arm (his right) and raised the other and fixed it a bit (I hope)
Brought in War Witch to face his wrath.......Okay beat me up I know it stinks
Warface Pose 3 -
Why does him yelling "KHANNNN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" come to mind!

[/ QUOTE ]
QFT! That's gotta be the best line ever!
[/ QUOTE ] That pose is sheer awesome.............and that quote is going in my sig-----and you cant stop me! -
[ QUOTE ]
okay try this one... sorry semi new to Imageshack...
[/ QUOTE ]
WOW .................Lady J your going to make me cry under my desk..... Can you please just send me your skills and magic in a box?
That top left one you did LJ scares the crap outta me if I saw him lumbering toward me. I think Iron Man would pee in his suit of armor like a baby.......
Man I wish my toon really looked like that in the character creator! They are both pure awesomeness and you have GREATLY inspired me.
Pose 2 it will be ..........with flashes of LJs work...................... walks off....................goes to sharpen his case of pencils..............looks for beer. -
[ QUOTE ]
More sketches for ya, this time unaltered lines done on actual paper... I figure since I'm computerless, I can still doodle... hope they inspire you.
LJ
[/ QUOTE ] Thanks LJ I cant see them until I get home, my 1st Marine Division Firewall blocks all Photobucket and YouTube. I can only see Dev art and Imageshack.
Too many BAD BAD movies and pics were put up from Iraq so they started blocking Blogs, Images........etc. -
Thanks for the comments Milk..........I will look at each of them closely and try to incoroporate. I typically read comics for my inspiration before I pose.......then I did about 20 stick figures.........those were the two I came up with...........though your right, it was hard to figure out how to burst from a wall. The top one I thought might be what exploding through looks like.
I really like pose 2.......... Should he be ripping through a Japanese Rice Paper Door (one possible background idea) which would seem like pose 2 might work for?
No reallly.......lol I am actually thinking about that. -
2 it is and Ill take Cresents advice............Pose 2 with a bit more definition coming tomorrow night.
-
[ QUOTE ]
Umm...I'd go with Pose 1. With pose 2, you're going to need to do foreshortening, which can get QUITE tricky.
So, anatomy-wise, first and foremost, you should enlarge his head a bit in Pose 1.
As for muscle mass, he needs bigger deltoids, I believe that's what they're called (the part right above the biceps). With arms, the structure gradually gets smaller. Even if you want some guy witth HUGE "guns", you're going to need a foundation that can support it. Moving outward a little bit, you're probably going to need to either enlarge his wrists or make his hands a little bit smaller (I'd go with enlarging his wrists so that it'd fit more with the overall massive structure of his body).
For his waists, you should straighten that line out a little bit due to him being a male character.
[/ QUOTE ]
So Daos what would you change..........by foreshortening are you talking about making his back right foot smaller? (Our right)
The more I think the more I may want to go Lady J pose too..........GAHHHH Tornnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn -
[ QUOTE ]
I like pose 2, the legs on pose 1 don't seem dramatic enough... btw, here's my quick 30 minute attempt, sorry for the roughness... I hate working on this Mac, it just doesn't feel comfy...

And Lady J shows up out of the stratusphere!WHERE YOU BEEN WE ALL WANT TO KNOW!!!
I love your pose too Lady J! LOL you crushed mine with just simple lines................sigh
The more I look at it I think Pose 2 would be best for wall bursting as some of you point out.
If thats the case......... Ill drum up a Rough Draft this weekend.........using some of Lady Js fast body parts and see what I can do....... taking some of your very on the spot comments Ill try to stay close to what you guys said. -
Okay.........After 20 stick figures lol I came up with these two ROUGH ROUGH poses. (unshaded and without armor of course) The skulls and hands need tons of work as you can tell.
The idea is eventually I will have him bursting through a wall attacking a hero. (He is an 8 ft tall 750 lb Cyborg villain after all)
Which pose do you like best and any pointers just from my initial body structure. (Im not that good with muscles either)
Pencil Poses 1 and 2 -

Well, how "honest" are you looking for?
I can go brutally downright-mean honest to brutally-honest to semi-notsohardass-honest to I-want-to-get-into-your-pants-honest. :-P
[/ QUOTE ]
Well as a Marine, if you touch my pants I have to destroy you.
But you can punch me square in the face, honk my nose, pinkbelly, bluenose me all day
I really want to get better and will fix whatever you guys give me..........if I can to the best of my ability. -
