Quote:Congrats on getting the second badger past 1,200. I wonder if you're the first to manage that?Originally Posted by Angry_Angel
Anyway I'm not too far behind on that myself. Spent too much time on my main's Partner badge in the last month to work on my second badger enough.

Quote:Well for what it's worth my main badgers have already "reinforced" all of the alignments just in case they ever actually release the "reinforce alignment" badges that were discovered lurking in the code back during the I18 beta.Hmmm... then they should have Come Full Circle Badge at 10x and 50x levels!

I was probably going to run a bunch of TFs anyway to stock up on Shards but the 50 count badge did add an additional motivation for sure.Quote:Bite your tongue....
bad enough the Partner badge set needs 50 runs......
The only good thing from running 50 Weekly TF aside from finishing the badge is that your alt should be well stocked on incarnate salvage, and merits. 50 is still a bit much.
Now that my main has finished that badge she's is in fact sitting on a boatload of them.

Quote:I understand everyone's going to have different opinions on what they consider "grinding" for badges. But I think trying to claim that having to do the same TF at least twice in one week as "grinding" is really pushing the definition to its logical limit.I don't mind badges that might require multiple attempts. I like the MoApex and Tin Mage badges. I do mind badges that require you to succeed...then once you've succeeded do it again and again and again. The ones for running a WST after you've already earned the reward are particularly grating because they absolutely require you to do a given thing at least twice in one week. I would not at all object to a badge that required running 50 WSTs if the first time you ran it counted. These badges are saying "We want you to grind this content." For a hardcore badger who likes having badges to work on it might be ok, but for a more casual badger it can make badging less fun.
Sure I can understand you might not LIKE to do TFs as often as that or maybe don't even have the time in real life to devote to doing TFs that often. But even if you're one of those people I think you'd have a hard timing using the word "grinding" to describe that scenario with a straight face.
If you're going to make a case against grinding for badges that's perfectly fine. But at least use reasonable terms/scales when trying to relate your ideas to others. I'm sure there are some people out there who would consider the idea that 2 TFs a week should be defined as "grinding" to be as laughable as trying to say driving 40 MPH on the Interstate is "speeding". -
Quote:I "fear" it only because this movie is basically going to hinge on how cheesy (or well done) the "interaction" between the fantasy world and the movie's real world is handled. Frankly I suspect if they let the two merge too freely then the suspension of disbelief in this movie will suffer. Why would you fear that?
It seems that by making this move they're allaying fears that this will be an all flash and no substance movie, and the climax will undoubtedly be more powerful.
I really have no worries from a "all flash and no substance" standpoint. It really wouldn't have bothered me to have the fantasy parts and the reality parts be strictly separated (in her mind alone?) assuming that would have served the story appropriately. -
Quote:I'd really be amazingly surprised if they ever (at this point) suddenly decided to say something like "Any character that has remained true to their original alignment will gain X permanent benefit". That would be an unfair "bait and switch" reversal of a colossal size and there would be a huge backlash to it. I believe it's safe to say there will never be PERMENENT ramifications for either switching alignments OR staying true.Well since you all seemed pretty well versed in alignment switching, I'll ask a non-related follow up. Are there any long-term benefits of having always stayed one alignment? I'm of two minds here, torn between my RP justification of Bill not faltering in his thematic purpose, versus my desire to have him fall just to snag more badges. Have they ever emphatically stated that there will or won't be permanent ramifications?
Now of course there are -some- ramifications to switching, like losing Alignment merits or powers. But to my knowledge there is nothing that can't be regained upon going back to an original alignment. So it's basically left up to the individual player how/why you justify any alignment decision vis-a-vis badging or anything else.
To use myself as an example my main badger Loth was always RP'd as a "reformed villain" as far back as 2004 so it was easy in my mind to justify her slipping back into her former evil ways to get redside badges. My second badger Ryver was always played as the "Good Girl" hero so for her I just assumed she got turned villainous against her will via some kind of evil mind control or some-such. I even redid some of her normally tidy costumes making them rough/torn to reflect the times when she's "temporarily chaotic/insane" on the redside.
Whatever works.

Quote:Eh, I never claimed I've seen every trailer for this movie so far.Actually, one of the trailers indicates that the fantasy does reflect an escape plan and it shows the various tasks they have to complete with their real and fantastical versions.

But if what you say is the case then my fears that they're going to let the fantasy world bleed into the real world seem justified. I'm still likely going to see this regardless, but like I implied earlier there's still plenty of room for this movie to shoot itself in the proverbial foot.

Quote:Everything that has ever been introduced in this game went through a period of "OMG that's too hard! No one will be able to do it!".Well on the plus side, it looks like you would have fully earnt most if the very rare then by the time you get *this* badge..
Hint, you have to achieve one task in one go....
I think the furthest we got was about halfway before we ran out of time (if that)
Eventually, sooner or later, someone figures out the "trick" to it and it becomes (if not trivial) at least much less "impossible" to do. I'm sure this new badge you're referring to is challeging, and it may never be simple to get. But I have no doubt it'll be earnable by most people eventually.
P.S. I've already earned every directably earnable badge in this game as of today.
I would have no other badge to work on at this point no matter how hard your new uber badge is... -
Quote:I lost 70+ earned badges during the infamous AE badge purge.I do have a problem with badges that require repeating the same thing over and over and over, when it was stated that going forward badges would be moving away from this philosophy. If we're going back to it, can I have my AE badges back please?
I'll gladly take them back regardless of the Devs' latest policy on "grinding" for badges. *shrugs* -
Quote:I have no problem with new badges requiring multiple weeks (or even months) of effort to earn. Being able to "instantly" earn badges can be fun sometimes, but having long term goals to achieve is fun as well.Wait until badgers see this one certain badge in the new trial . . . . . . . cant see how it can be done for a good few weeks upon going live

Quote:Then again it's not a scenario that was unexpected. I realized this was probably going to be the case several months ago. In fact I've had several of my badging characters parked with all the alignment points ready to go to shift back to the other side at the drop of a hat for weeks now.

Quote:I'd agree any variation of a "twist" like this would be cool.Another cool twist ending would be, she already had the lobotomy and as a result in her "coma" she dreams up this whole fantasy. The ending would be, the camera goes fuzzy and backs out, then slowly backs right back in and becomes clears onto her eye and backs out again but clear and it's her lying in bed with the lobotomy scar on her head, and with movie magic with background noise and the images in her eye you can tell while she is lying there in bed she is "dreaming" of the fanatasy world.
Sadly I'm basically expecting it to go more like this: Using her awesome imagination she somehow "transfers" her fantasy-based virtual ninja-girl powers into the real world and she physically escapes the mental institution in a blaze of Kill Bill styled gunfire and swordfighting to get her revenge on the people who put her there. Because as we all know any cute girl can "imagine" themselves into a ninja killing machine IRL and it'll happen for real.

Quote:I see no reason why this thing couldn't be reorganized so that the default Lore pet costumes (however many defaults the game would give us) represented a better mix of Praetorian and non-Praetorian options. Then from there we'd be free to gain/earn any other Lore pets costumes we wanted.Me too. As long as there were starting options that weren't Praetorian in addition to later unlocks. Even if it was just your generic Longbow/PPD/Vanguard/Arachnos pets, it would acknowledge that there was a game before Praetoria. If some other options were unlocked with existing badges (Rularuu, Council, Banished Pantheon, CoT, Carnies) it would give people even more starting options since you could collect the badges ahead of time. Unlockies based on Accomplishment badges would also make a great deal of sense for a slot called Lore.
This idea, following the Halloween costume power model, potentially allows there to be literally dozens of Lore pet appearances to choose from that could be "assigned" to our Lore pets.
-
I think the Devs are really missing out on an opportunity with the Lore pets. I know people/Devs can come up with rationalizations for why we only have the specific 4 choices to pick from, but at the end of the day there's still only 4 HARDWIRED choices. Limiting it to only 4 (no matter which 4) was basically a guarantee that some subset of the playerbase was going to be needlessly disappointed.
I think the Devs should have applied the "Halloween Costume" power concept to these Lore pets. The system should be designed so that we perhaps start out with 4 default Lore pet costumes but make it so that we can collect/unlock others. We are after all talking about the Almighty Well here aren't we? Why should it not be possible to have our Lore pet ultimately look ANY way we want it too using Lore pet costumes? The Devs could periodically add new Lore costumes and even make them serve as rewards for various things. The pets gamewise could keep all the same basic powers but they'd simply look more like what we want them to look like with the Halloween costume concept.
Seems reasonable to me.

Quote:*MILD SPOILERS ALERT*From I get in the commericial, it is a matrix like world, and she has to fight herself out of it for freedom? If I am not correct someone please tell me what it is supposed to be about then.
In a nutshell the main character is a girl who's (apparently falsely) imprisoned in a mental institution and she use her "vivid imagination" to cope/escape from reality. It's not clear from the trailers if she ACTUALLY escapes from the nuthouse or if this is all just a fantasy she creates for herself as she goes insane for real.
That's why I think it'd be cool if they handle Sucker Punch like the "Owl Creek Bridge" story I mentioned. In that story a Civil War soldier is about to be hung but somehow escapes the noose and makes a fantastically desperate attempt to get home. Turns out the entire "escape" never actually happened and the whole story was just an instantaneous "life flashing before his eyes" hallucination he experiences seconds before they hang him.
If they apply that kind of twist to this movie it'd be great. Basically she "imagines" that they all become cool ninja warrior-chicks but in reality she's just moments away from a lobotomy that's going to effectively kill her anyway. That'd be tragically cool.

It is strange to think that eventually a fully slotted Incarnate (with all the Alpha, Lore, Judgement, etc. slots filled) will really be more a virtual "Incarnate AT" than a "random AT/Powerset alt who also happens to be an Incarnate". The old concepts of being a specific AT or having specific powersets will be minimized in favor of simply being an Incarnate, as if being an Incarnate was a brand new AT in and of itself.
I suppose it'll lead to a kind of "cookie-cutter homogeneity" the same way it would if everyone eventually only played Peacebringers or Widows. -
-
Yeah I hadn't heard anything new about it lately either. It seems like it's going to be one of those movies that'll either really interesting or really dumb. I just don't see it being a middle-of-the-road kind of deal.
I'm personally hoping for an "escape via hallucination" twist ending along the lines of "An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge" but frankly I'd be amazed if they pull off something that compelling with this.

Quote:Oh well, I still think it's a cool idea in theory.Yes, that was real. It also happened to be one of the absolute worst Justice League stories ever written. I bought them because I'm a die hard JL fan and something of a completist, but I couldn't force myself to read them all. They sit at the very back of my collection.
Too bad someone else already had it and apparently messed it up.

Quote:I'm good with it either way. Even if we are "forced" to run 3 more trials just to get 3 more badges I'd rather do that than to have the thing left broken the way it is now. I actually haven't run either side's respec trials in a long time so when I20 finally brings this fix to the live servers it might provide the motivation to run something else that's semi-unusual for a change.

Quote:I'm not going to belittle because you apparently got nothing you like out of this Issue. I'll just point out that there's never been any guarantee that any Issue is supposed to be 100% acceptable to everyone. Better luck next time?I'm not "demanding" anything. I look at the new Issue and discover it has two Trials, two TFs, an improvement on the system for finding Trials to play...
And Respec Badges plus more Black Helicopters in Nerva and Grandville, I assume one near the Primeva beach and one at the Fab.
I don't even see any new costume pieces, let alone customization options or powerset proliferation, or any regular storyarcs or really anything much that doesn't have a minimum team size requirement.
I know I'm going to get belittled for this, but can you see how this might be ever so slightly disappointing to me? I20 has not a single thing I actually want. I don't recall another Issue that has had less I could use, and I count I4 in there. -
Quote:To be reasonable people who like to play solo probably shouldn't demand the other hypothetical extreme that everything in a MMO must be 100% soloable either.Or forced teaming isn't the light of your life, but we all know that people who like to play solo shouldn't play MMOs, so eh.
The perfect balance of solo vs. team is probably somewhere in the middle... just like this game happens to be geared for.
Imagine that.
-
Until someone can produce the law that says "100% of this game must be soloable" I will continue to have relative little sympathy for people who assume everything here must be soloable.

Quote:Well to be fair GR wasn't called "Alpha slot 100% certain to be here".Seeing as how the Alpha Slot was pushed out of GR at nearly the last moment . . . yeah I can see how some folks would want confirmation.
I don't think it's fringe lunacy at all.
Perhaps my phrase "fringe lunacy" was a tad much. But I think to have overactive concerns we're going to have a repeat of what happened to the Alpha slot it a bit unwarranted as well.
