Well at least we know Lynda won't be on the new show anytime soon. One article I read a few weeks ago mentioned she was supposedly too busy with her latest album to have a role in the pliot. I suppose if this new show does crash-n-burn quickly enough maybe there won't be enough time for her to ever do a cameo.

Regardless I really don't have a problem with Lynda doing a cameo. As a recent example we can see how Richard Hatch had a cool role in the new Battlestar Galactica show which had nothing to do with his former role as Apollo on the original show.

This show has not attracted the right talent to do it justice. It's sad really but know one yet can present a modern version of WW. They keep on trying to recreate some part of the past that simply is dated in 2011. I go out on a limb and say this but WW must be "reborn" physically to be sucessful. Lynda Carter wil have to die too :-) Her image "as Wonder Woman" is preventing WW from getting her due like Batman and Superman. Lynda Carter is Wonder Woman in many people's minds. For example, I have a home in Columbia, MD. Lynda lives in Potomac, MD. She is so adored by the community here it would just make you sick. She is WW to many here and they don't want someone replacing her yet.
As I said earlier its really going to be impossible for ANY future Wonder Woman show to completely satisfy everyone. And yes a lot of that has to do with the current "legacy" of Lynda Carter. Unlike Batman and Superman Lynda has (to date) really been the only actress to play the role as far as most people are concerned. A new Wonder Woman actress was not only going to have to be accepted as a new Wonder Woman but she was going to have to be a suitable replacement for Lynda as well. I seriously don't think ANY actress really could have done that to the complete satisfaction of everyone. Adrianne may not be perfect (and I've even said I'm not sure I really like her either) but at least she'll start the process of moving us away from thinking "only" Lynda can play the role. If we don't get past that we'll never see another Wonder Woman show ever.

As far as "planning" for TV time I've been watching TV via TiVo for around 10 years now so that's not a significant issue for me. I'll simply watch it whenever I have the time.

This is what the Wiki says about Smallville:

The longest-running comic book based series in television history,[3] Smallville began its tenth and final season in September 2010.[4] The series follows the adventures of Clark Kent (Tom Welling), who resides in the fictional town of Smallville, Kansas, during the years before he becomes Superman.

My point was is that I've been a fan of comic book and sci-fi shows for over 30 years and based on everything I thought I knew about how things were going to go I SERIOUSLY expected Smallville to fail after only a few shows. I watched the first 3 or 4 episodes and fully expected its failure for many of the same kinds of reasons you're expecting the Wonder Woman to fail. Obviously I was wrong.

As I've often said on this thread already I've basically waited 32 years for this show to happen. I think I can be willing to give it a few watches regardless of any "predictions" one way or the other.

I know if you look through this thread it seems like I've been a "cheerleader" for this new show. My whole position all along is that I'm simply willing to give it a chance to fail or succeed before I prejudge it.

Trust me - if this thing turns out to be bad my scathing comments will be so harsh it'll make what you've said here look like fanboi love by comparison.

You get thumbs up if you plan/massage/think through your ideas well and they capture the "Spirit" of your target.

    Residentx10,

I know you want to be realistic about this new show's chances but I thought the same pessimistic things about Smallville and somehow it got 10 seasons. If you can explain how -that- happened we'll be all the wiser.

I make no predictions about how this new Wonder Woman show will do. But once I actually WATCH it I'll be much more able to either rip it apart or praise it as the case may be. I've been wrong in my guesses far too many times to really assume anything about Hollyweird anymore. *shrugs*

I personally have no problem with the "15 years younger" verison of Monica. But 15 years ago I recall plenty of people shooting her down, just like there have been people who've been against basically EVERYONE else who's ever been suggested for the role. Besides how is a time-warped version of Monica going to help us now - I'm sure there was a woman back in 1452 who would've been great too. *shrugs*

Like I said you'll never find someone everyone's going to like.

If I wanted to I could probably list off 50 actresses who were randomly offered up as the "perfect" Wonder Woman over the last 30 years. They were of course all "perfect" to whoever suggested them and each "imperfect" to plenty of others.

I'll grant you that this particular show may fail. But seriously, ALL shows change their looks/costumes based on all sorts of reasons and/or feedback. The fact that this show has changed things is not a unique "failure" that only this one show has been guilty of.

[EDIT based on Residentx_EU's EDIT] I agree there's probably an element of "the younger audience won't really know any better anyway" going on here. But as a member of the "rest of us" audience I'm still willing to let these changes have a chance to fail before I'll ASSUME it's going to fail.
  10. As I've said for years (even on many other Wonder Woman threads long before this particular show became a reality) I pretty much assumed that there would NEVER be a living actress that would ever completely satisfy everyone's desires for this character.

Even I'm not completely sold on Adrianne playing the role (for all sorts of reasons) but I'm not going to let a "non-perfect" actress stop me from giving the show a chance because when it comes right down to it there will never be a perfect actress for the role. *shrugs*

That's just a downright stupid comment, even if you think this particular show is going to fail. Shows in production (especially shows that haven't aired yet) constantly change/update their costumes before they settle on the "final" look. With very little effort you could dig up "prototype" test pictures of just about any genre show you could think of. To think that the first Wonder Woman picture we saw at the top of this thread was going to be the "final" version of the outfit was just silly on your part.

At least come up with some reasonable reasons to dislike this show.

"Clearly" I'm pretty sure Zombie Man was making a joke. Still, if another TRON sequel doesn't get made within the next few years then yes, that'll probably be exactly what Hollyweird will do with it.

That's certainly possible. At least it would be more "realistic" if they stayed flat all the time not only from the practicality point of view but from the goofy TV show continuity error point of view. It sadly almost became a sort of "drinking game" to guess when Lynda Carter was going to be wearing flats versus heeled boots from scene to scene in the old show.

Yeah I actually try to be as forgiving of live-action comic book movies/shows as I reasonably can be myself.

But any "supergroup" based comic book movie is going to have the added complications of getting multiple actors to "look" right and balancing out their screen time to make all the fans happy. Any attempt at a live-action JLA movie has always had a hard mountain to climb and that clearly explains why they've been trying to figure out how to make it work for decades now.

I wish them all the luck if they finally get this project off the ground. Like you it sadly does seem like the odds are stacked against them on this.
  15. Well at least the boots are red. And as per my earlier suspicion it looks like this show is going to have her "magically" change to flat soled boots whenever she's running around the same way they did for Lynda Carter back in the 70s. I guess there's still no easy way around keeping these actresses from breaking their ankles.

It also looks like the pants are made of a darker, less "shiny" material in this shot. It'll be interesting to see if that's a permanent change away from the "shiny" blue pants or if that's again a concession for the action scenes just like the flat boots seem to be.

Well as we all know the idea of a "comic book movie not sucking" is definitely going to be a highly subjective thing. Even if they make the most awesome JLA movie humanly possible there will still be a subset of comic book geeks who'll whine about it regardless.
  17. It'd be nice to finally see it happen, but as always I'll see it when I believe it, or something like that.
  18. It's funny to hear that this kind of "wardrobe malfunction" can happen to the guys as well as the girls. There's always been that sad story of Jeri Ryan (who played Seven of Nine in ST:Voyager) and her first costumed screen test. Supposedly her first "Borg catsuit" was so tight she couldn't breath and started to pass out while trying to deliver her lines. Of course she was "bulked up" in a slightly different way from Chris Hemsworth.

Ultimately I think you've let yourself get too hung up on the words used to describe whether Snyder was "inspired" by Brazil and/or if he "ripped it off". None of that matters because we have the actual words of Snyder to go by.

The real key here is to accept the fact that Snyder, by his own admission, has told us that Sucker Punch is not a 100% original idea. He was "inspired" by something else - the degree of that inspiration is immaterial. The degree to which Sucker Punch is more like Brazil or Pan's Labyrinth is immaterial.

What is material is that in this case Snyder bears the responsibility of creating "something inspired by something else" that is not an IMPROVEMENT on that which came before him. In fact his derivative work it clearly something LESS impressive than what came before him. That's the core problem here.

It doesn't bother me that Snyder "ripped off", "borrowed", "was inspired by" or anything else.
What bothers me is that whatever he did he ended up doing BADLY.
Tossing up smoke and mirrors about who inspired what is not going to change that now.

Number of tasks and items and the final being the hero sacrificing herself for a greater purpose. There have been as many critics or even more making that connection than Brazil.

Okay let's put it this way Chris Nolan himself said he was inspired by The Matrix and Lord of the Rings for Inception. Does that make the movie based on The Matrix and Lord of the Rings? Oh wait the movie did have a agents they had to fight and fortress in the snow....right?
One last time it's obvious that Snyder was "inspired" by Brazil when making Sucker Punch.

Does that mean Sucker Punch has to be a shot-for-shot copy of Brazil? Of course not.
Does that mean Sucker Punch can't have elements inspired by other sources? Of course not.
Does that mean Snyder wasn't allowed to put his own spin on Sucker Punch? Of course not.

But frankly your strange attempt to down-play or "disconnect" the obvious relationship between Sucker Punch and Brazil is borderline laughable at this point, especially when you consider you're attempting to disassociate Sucker Punch away from the BETTER movie of the two.

    Lost in Space? yeah....right.

    Stargate? finished

Forever Knight: long gone (reboot would be nice)

    Highlander: reboot pending

Knight Rider?: Kitt's back in the garage.

    Bionic Woman: reboot failed

Wonder Woman: reboot predicted to fail

    Smallville? long in the tooth

Space 1999?: heh blow the dust off that one....

Airwolf: series crashed and burned in season 4 with the cast change.

Flash Gordon: series failed as I recall

    Buck Rogers: not likely

Greatest American Hero: not likely to return

So given all the above, it's not unreasonable to hope for good things for TRON.
Actually you just listed a whole bunch of reasons why further TRON movies may -not- happen. If none of those other sci-fi/comicbook franchises are doing very well at the moment why would TRON fair any better? Based on how crappily things like Sy-Fy is handling things it's pretty clear that good science fiction titles are not automatically green-lit anymore (assuming they ever were).

Once again I wish TRON no ill-will. I just don't see how it's going to be all that much more likely to happen than anything else you just listed. Like I said before actors sign deals for future projects all the time. None of that ever guarantees that anything comes of it. *shrugs*

So hope for it all you want. Just be reasonable about your expectations for it.

Really they need to find ways to reuse all of those badge titles, there were some pretty good ones in there.
Reusing/recycling the AE badges would be a good idea.

But seriously they needed to find a way to not delete around 80 badges from the game in the first place. I know the Devs' main "reason" for doing it was that people were whining about them being "too grindy" but I had almost all of them done in about 3 weeks. Exactly how bad could they have been if they were earnable in a matter of a few weeks? *sigh*

I really don't understand why you want to try to pretend Snyder didn't base Sucker Punch on Brazil when Snyder has DIRECTLY said that he did. Obviously if you dig hard enough you can find similarities between what Snyder showed us and other sources and obviously Snyder took the basic idea and expanded on it (i.e. another Samuari with a mini-gun). But none of that can "wipe away" the core fundamental truth that Sucker Punch was PRIMARILY based on Brazil. Please accept that as a fact in this case.

Now having said that there's nothing actually wrong with a filmmaker like Synder doing that. Flimmakers basically "borrow" ideas from previous movies all the time. The only thing Snyder did wrong in this case is that he took a previous movie and made a WORSE version of it, not a better one.
