Another in a long line of new badge threads
Well at least I'll say I've heard a lot worse ideas for new badges. How's that for a non-committal answer?
I probably wouldn't mind getting new "hostage count" badges but then again I'm a pretty serious badge-hunter. My guess is that you'd probably have a lot of people whining that such badges would be too "grindy" and the Devs might actually agree with that. The Devs seem to have strange ideas about what they consider "grindy badges" these days so you never really know.
It's an interesting idea regardless.

Either NPC pathing has gotten worse, or they're having trouble keeping up with our inherent fitnessed selves, because I'm finding it a lot easier to lose them than I used to.
With that in mind, may I suggest Cat Herder or A Little Help Here for alternate badge titles.
I would have said Escort Service but that would be open to misinterpretation, especially in Pocket D on Virtue...

Hmmm like the alternate titles and definately agree GOOD LORD NO .. we cant use Escort Service. I play on Virtue and can just imagine the RP that badge title woule inspire. lol

I can see your point Lothic but then a lot of the Defeat badges are a grind... I about lost my mind hunting down Marcone Bosses in Port Oakes. Spent a good hour or more in the Shadow Shard taking out Fake Nemesis.. and had the badge for Overseers long before I finished the Fakes. Rikti Monkeys can be a grind if you soloed a lot of the RWZ arcs.. and I cant even imagine the dedication it took if anyone had that badge before they dropped the total from 10,000 to 1000. Badgers will do whatever it takes to earn the badge. One of the reasons I stressed ANY hostage was to make it a little easier... The one side mission in a Safeguard where you stop the break in has three hostages you can rescue alone... So if you do 5 of those to earn the badge associated with it you just picked up 15 hostages! There are stop the bank robber missions on the Police Scanner that also have three bank tellers to save. And I'd also include missions like the one's in Faultline where you "rescue" Fushionette and Arbiter Sands, or the ones in the RWZ where you rescue Fushionette and Faultline. Sure once you rescue them they may actually stick around and help you fight but YOU still rescued them .. in my mind that counts as a hostage situation.

Anyway it turned on that little lightbulb over my head that my SG mates have come to dread.. "OH GOD NO SHE HAS ANOTHER IDEA! RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!!!!"
![]() The Hero badge could be called Rescue 911 ... When a citizen is in trouble they know who to call. Your work in freeing hostages has earned you respect throughout Paragon City. The Villian badge could be called The Specialist ... When they need someone snatched and they want it done right they always call you. You've become notorious for your ability to kidnap anyone from anywhere! Keep up the bad work! Feedback? Don't be shy and I am NOT attached to those badge titles in any way so if someone has a better one for it.. Let's hear it ![]() |
I'd take it one step further and have badges based on WHO the hostages are. Your idea could apply to civillian characters, sure, but there are also a number of missions wear you're saving a captured hero or villain.
For Heroes
Longsuffering - Rescue 50 Paragon Heroes in missions.
"You've saved Paragon's mightiest superheroes from common street thugs with baseball bats countless times to earn this badge."
Equal Opportunity Hero - Rescue 50 Rogue Isle Villains in missions.
"Your actions have dramatically decreased the number of banks the Rogue Isle Villains have to rob. Thanks, hero!"
For Villains
It's For My Cape Collection - Kidnap 50 Paragon Heroes
"If this doesn't get you your own 'Paragon's Most Wanted' special, nothing will!"
Bank of Favors - Kidnap/rescue 50 Rogue Isle Villains
"They may like you or hate you. But they owe you favors, collectible any time you have dirty work that needs to be done."
If they implement a badge or series of badges for rescuing hostages, there's one badge title they need to reuse: To the Rescue, originally in the game as an Architect badge for rescuing 50 hostages in AE missions and removed in Issue 15 with most of the rest of the AE badges. Ideally it'd come with an exclamation mark on the end for extra awesome, but yeah.
Really they need to find ways to reuse all of those badge titles, there were some pretty good ones in there.

But seriously they needed to find a way to not delete around 80 badges from the game in the first place. I know the Devs' main "reason" for doing it was that people were whining about them being "too grindy" but I had almost all of them done in about 3 weeks. Exactly how bad could they have been if they were earnable in a matter of a few weeks? *sigh*
Oh well...

Tonight I needed a break from the usual mix of WST and other 45-50 level Tf for my 50 + levels so I broke out my 29 level KM/REG Scrapper and had some fun getting her to 30.
Why don't they come up with a badge for rescuing say 100 hostages? Or even 200? Heck we see enough of them in missions to make either work and as long as it was expanded to include ANY mission it shouldn't take forever. It would be a reward to the countless heroes that have endured the COUNTLESS victims that have no clue how to navigate a stairway and are confused by the complicated engineering involved in a hallway that turns right (or left). A similar badge could be awarded to Villains that kidnap the same amount of victims in any mission.
At some point between doing my 5 Vigilante Missions and a number of Police Scanner missions it occurred to me that Heroes spend an awful lot of time rescuing hostages. This thought occurred when my three selections from the scanner ALL involved rescuing someone from some Villain faction LOL
