The only problem I have with these suggestions are that none of them are really "new". People have been asking for all of these things for years now. As always I still hope we'll eventually start getting some of these things...
-
Obviously that would be the Devs' call. You might be right and they wouldn't mind this. I'm just thinking there'd be people out there who'd figure out the odds and decide it was worth their time and effort to attempt these conversions on a mass scale to try to produce a bunch of super-valuable inspirations to sell on the market.

Quote:Yeah that was pretty much what I got from watching it. I realize this movie tried to be some kind of "social commentary via fantasy" like Durakken was describing, but ultimately it failed to be engaging or entertaining in any serious way. This kind of movie hinged on generating some kind of empathy for the girls' plight but unfortunately it missed that mark pretty badly. This movie desperately wanted to be a "Brazil 2" but it didn't even come close to that.I felt that if they had edited out all the talky stuff and just strung together the action scenes, it would have been a pretty awesome movie.

Basically you could edit Sucker Punch down to about 20 minutes worth of randomly cool anime-inspired CGI action scenes and forget the rest... -
Quote:Strictly speaking you're right - the Paragonwiki pages doesn't really tell you -how- to do it. That Titles page probably ought to be updated to reflect this relatively new Vet feature...Still missing it. I see where it says "Ability to change the colors of your Titles", but nothing on actually how to do it. I viewed the page on Titles but didn't see anything there on how to change colors.
But even without that info the first place I looked when I first heard about this was the same place I knew where to change the text of those titles. It made the most sense to me at the time. Sorry I wasn't more clear about it in my last post. -
I think the only way this would be balanced is if the resulting inspiration always defaults to the lowest teir of the three used to make it. For example if I read what you said correctly you'd want to be able to take a tier 4 yellow and two tier 1 yellows and have a 1/3 chance of creating a tier 4 wakey. Somehow I think the Devs would consider that too powerful. But as a desperation maneuver they'd probably let that same combination work if it -always- produced a tier 1 wakey.
It's a net value thing: I doubt the Devs would ever give us a serious chance to be able to "upgrade" junk inspirations to top level ones like that. -
Quote:To add to what Chad Gulzow-Man said I think this was their vague attempt to stress a hardwired difference between the original 4 unlockable slots (slots #2-5) and the new slots (#6-10).I'm a little confused about the "not" in the last sentence quoted above from the Paragon Market page. Why is this even mentioned? If the slots are unlocked, it would seem that a level one character would start the game with 6 costume slots (the initial slot plus the 5 unlocked via purchase). Why even mention that they can't be unlocked through in-game missions? It would be a non-issue. The other three would continue to be unlocked via missions from the tailor, and the last one would be available through use of Halloween salvage.
I'm wondering if this is a typo and the "not" was supposed to be a "now".
When you think about it the 4 old extra costumes (the ones earned by the level 20, 30 and 40 missions and the Halloween salvage) were never preassigned to specific slots. This meant for example you could turn in your Halloween salvage for a costume slot and it would unlock the very next slot regardless if that was slot #2, #3, #4 or #5. But none of the new slots (#6-10) can be earned by those methods. The only way those specific slots can be unlocked is via the Paragon Market.
This means that if you use the Paragon Market to unlock 5 costume slots on your account and you make a new character that character will have access to the following slots: #1, #6, #7, #8, #9 and #10. The slots #2-5 are reserved for the old ways to unlock those.
Hope that make some sense.

Quote:Really? Looks like it's mentioned where it talks about the 84th month Vet award in Paragonwiki to me.Wait, we can do this? How? I completely missed this part of the reward, and ParagonWiki doesn't seem to have details on how to do it.
-
Quote:Thought this for level 6, not 3. But if the Freedom stuff is allowing us to do that at level 4 instead of 6 that'd be cool. No, it's more like how the City Traveler vet reward lets you pick any of the first three powers in the travel pools at level 3 instead of needing to pick one prerequisite and then the travel power at 14. You'll just be able to pick from the first three powers in the pools at level 4.
-
They're probably talking about being able to buy things like Ninja Run and Beast Run individually without having to buy an entire Booster Pack. As far as I know there will be no significant changes to existing travel powers.

Quote:Well the rankings may still reflect which SGs are most active right now, but as others implied you have to take that with a huge grain of salt. The kinds of things many of the top SGs are doing these days to get to the top of the lists may not be the kind of "activity" you're looking for. Thanks for info.
TBH I just want a good and highly active VG on Victory. I thought ranking might show this but it seems not. I'll think on.
Basically the SG ranking lists were part of the whole "SG base raiding PvP" system that never quite happened. They also existed in a time before the markets when it was much harder to "buy" your way to the top. Such is life.
If you want to find a SG to play in I'd do what Forbin_Project said and maybe skim through the server forum areas. The SG ranking list might help, but I wouldn't rely on it at this point. Good luck. -
Quote:I never claimed making assumptions about people based on how they write was strictly a good thing but clearly we all do it regardless even if it's on an unconscious level. I guess in the context of this thread that makes me an "ageist" of some sort.Hey! Don't you dare age me a year! That's all I've got until I turn "old!"

I'm by no means a "nitpicky English language nerd" but I do think it's a pretty easy leap of faith to equate a mature style of writing to a mature person. If that means I end up mistaking a very well spoken 20 year old for someone much older I'm willing to accept that. Likewise if there's a 50 year old out there who writes like a 3rd grader then, well, that's what I'm going to assume I'm dealing with until I know otherwise. -
That's one of those "use a feature in a novel way" ideas that I probably would never have thought of. I mostly team with my level 50s. When I do get debt with them it usually lasts on the order of milliseconds before it's gone all by itself. It's basically a "problem" I never even thought needed a solution.Quote:Yup, Patrol XP eats debt. So you can have a debt buffer so as not to hinder your influence gain.

Quote:Nothing wrong with that. It's just clear that in terms of MMOs the word "casual" can apparently have a lot of different meanings.
While I won't deny a serious case of altitis the time I spend playing isn't really all that much. It's not unusual for me to go two weeks without playing. Otherwise I try to get in at least an hour once a week. That's why it takes me forever to level my characters.
-
Quote:Yeah the "types in complete sentences" indicator doesn't usually make me automatically assume the person is male or female.Nah, that just means you are old

I say this as someone who is unable to bring themselves to use abbreviations when sending a text message
It mostly steers me towards whether or not I think the person in question is over 30 or under 30.

Barring going to Praetoria the low-tech workaround I've come up with is to just go to the less crowded locations (such as St. Martial or Kings Row). Basically I can't remember the last time I ever had problems in those places on Virtue at least.
-
Quote:The only question I have is whether or not DAAOOAA secretly had doing that in mind or if this suggestion was completely innocent and unaware of how it could be used in that semi-devious way. It's amazing how often people come up with seemingly reasonable suggestions without considering the unintended consequences. Then I can just go to any contact or combat medic. Buy regular inspirations and keep combining until I have a tray of the large inspirations that I want.
Thus making something that is already a bit on the OP side totally over the top.

Quote:Again I think you might need to let go of the old "bundle/pack" concept. Also, being 65% much more expensive for non-bundle v. bundle is more of a mark-up than I would expect. Something like 20% would be much more reasonable. A 65% markup makes me worry that even the bundle will be more than $10 in the Paragon Market.
Buying items in this game is no longer going to be confined to "collections" of items. -
Quote:They might offer bundles. But I think what may be more important is that the concept of what used to be called a Booster Pack is going to be replaced by the a la carte concept. Will it really matter if you buy every "mutant pack" item when the very idea of there being a collection of items called a "mutant pack" doesn't really exist anymore?I understand that but I will have to see what they include in a bundle and at what price.
Like Yoda famously said, "You must unlearn what you have learned."
-
Yes if you want -all- of what you used to get from a single pack then yes you could pay more for it all in the Paragon Market. But I think it's probably fairly likely that most people only care about some subset of the items in any given pack. This will allow those people to get only the individual pieces they want. Sure ultimately some people will pay more, but other people will end up paying less than they used to as well.
-
The irony of that is that since many people would likely turn them off they would start to become rare on the market. Once they become rare on the market people will start to want to get the drops again because they'll actually be worth the effort to sell. Eventually many people might not care about this new Null the Gull ability because temp power recipe drops won't be collectively worthless.
Not saying any of that is bad, just pointing out the likely consequences.

Quote:After reading your post it just occurred to me what having 3 trays of enhancement slots would REALLY be useful for. Sure it'll help when you're playing missions or even working the market. But think about doing respecs and having to swap out huge numbers of enhancements in a build. People have complained for years that having only 10 slots made doing massive respec swapping hard because you could only pull out 10 at a time. Now we'll be able to pull out 30 at a time. Thank goodness for small favors.Heck going from 10 to 20 on enhancement drops is probably more than plenty for me anyways, but 30?

-
My initial guess no, they aren't going change how names are going to work on the VIP server. I could be wrong of course, but that sounds like the kind of sweeping change they would -not- limit to just one server. If they ever made that change to the game it'd be "all or nothing".
-
Quote:Why? You paid extra for those things back in 2005. Would it really be -that- different for someone else to also PAY extra for those same things in 2011? You got the box with all the physical items - someone who uses the Paragon Market would still not be able to get those things. Frankly I'd rather allow the company get a new chance to make more money off of these two particular items than to "preserve" any sense of perceived exclusivity. *shrugs*Now there's not really much that I, or anyone else outside for Paragon Studios, can do if they really want to put the Collectors Edition stuff in the Paragon Marketplace. I would just be very disappointed that they went back on their word about that stuff being exclusive to limited editions of the game.
-
Quote:Yeah it sucks that this new launcher will not natively work under Linux. Maybe they'll fix that eventually. But sadly since I can probably count on two or three hands/feet the number of people in the world that'll affect I don't think they are going to be too stressed out about it. Clearly you figured it out - anyone else who insists on trying to run this game under Linux are probably computer savvy enough to figure it out too.
-
Quote:Yep that page needs to be fixed. But remember there was a time long ago when the Devs made a "promise" there would never be a way to get the preorder Prestige Sprints, CoV Helmets and so on either. Frankly (as Snow Globe has implied) I'd consider it shortsighted to think they might choose to leave ANYTHING off the Paragon Market table. *shrugs*I guess someone needs to fix that page:
http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Unlock...or.27s_Edition
http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Unlock...rachnos_Symbol
Those two pieces are ONLY available with a code from from the CoV Collectors Edition. And when the devs said they wouldn't make those pieces available any other way it wasn't an off hand comment, it was a promise.
